Two computers can play through AExpr, third one can't!

I'm usually pretty good at trouble-shooting stuff like this, but this time I'm totally stumped!
I have three computers connected via ethernet to an SMC Barricade 7004BR router. Also connected to this router is an Airport Base Station (Graphite). In another room, there's an Airport Express connected to my stereo in "join existing network" mode.
On two of the computers*, I can play music from iTunes to the AExpr speakers. When I select the AExpr from the speakers popup at the bottom of the iTunes window, a message - "connecting to remote speakers..." - appears briefly in the "now playing" (or whatever you'd call it) display at the top of the main iTunes window, and then playback switches to the remote speakers.
On the third computer**, this doesn't work. (And of course, this is the machine with the big hard drive containing my iTunes Library!) This machine can apparently "see" the AExpr - it shows up in the speakers popup at the bottom of the iTunes window. But when I try to select it, a separate AirTunes window appears, saying "Connecting to Airport Express..." This new window displays a barber pole progress bar for a few moments, the AirTunes window closes (no error message or anything), and playback continues through the computer's speakers. If I click on the speakers popup, the AExpr is still listed there. Weird, huh?
I've tried to compare the System Preferences > Network settings and the iTunes > Preference settings on all three computers, and I can't find any significant difference. All three are running OSX 10.4.10. One of the computers that can play is running iTunes 7.4.1. The other two - one that can play and one that can't - are running iTunes 7.4.2. I trashed iTunes from the computer that can't play, downloaded a fresh copy from Apple's website, and re-installed it. Still no go.
Any ideas???
* iBook 500 dual-USB, eMac (can play)
** dual-G4 Gigabit (can't play)

Still no go...
Based on another thread I found here, I went to System Preferences > Network, selected the Built-in Ethernet tab, and used "Assist Me" to create a new location, restarted the computer, and no change. Still can't connect to the remote speakers. (Just on this one computer.)
Then I started from my OSX Tiger disc, ran Disc Utility, repaired the volume (no repairs needed), and repaired permissions, and restarted. I got pretty excited at this point, since several of the repairs mentioned iTunes. But it's still not working.
This seems really weird to me. Why do I get a separate window opening, that says "Connecting to Airport Express..." when my other computers just put a little "Connecting to remote speakers..." message in the "now playing" part of the main iTunes window. Has anyone else seen this before?

  • I have an Iphone 4S and two computers, can I sync with both computers? When I click on manual manage it says I have to delete songs from phone

I have two computers, my desktop has much more music on it, but my laptop is 10 times faster.  I originally sync'd my iphone 4s with the desktop to try and keep the hard drive on the laptop from bogging down.  My desktop is on it's way out and I'm trying to sync with the laptop but itunes won't let me.  When I go into my iphone on the computer I check off to manual manage music and when I hit apply it tells me that the iphone can only be sync'd to one computer and requires the contents of the phone being deleted.  Is there anyway around this or am I going to have to delete everything and go through my laptop?

This is from article on device with multiple computers:
iPod shuffle and iPhone are intended for use with a single computer. You cannot load music from multiple computers or iTunes libraries onto iPod shuffle and iPhone like you can with other devices.

  • Same account name on two computers can't write over network

I'm having great difficulty synchronizing two computers. One is an iMac and the other is a MBP. They are both used only by me for work. I don't need to share them with anyone else, only with each other. The main account is exactly the same on both of them as the iMac is a Migration of the MBP, so the user name and password are identical.
Regardless of how I set sharing/permissions on any given folder, I can only read in either direction. Whenever I try to write, it asks for authentication (odd since the volume is already mounted), then says the file already exists (even though it doesn't) would you like to overwrite? I click overwrite, and then it comes back and says "you can't overwrite since the file already exists". Huh?? Looking at the destination the file does exist, but is zero bytes.
I finally created a dummy admin account on one of the machines, logged into this account from the other, and then things work like you would expect. I can write to those directories of the main account that have write privileges and not to those that don't.
So my question, is there anyway to just log into the main account, which is exactly the same on both machines and be able to write? This odd behavior seemed to start somewhere around 10.5 as I was always able to do this before.
    Thanks,
    Darryl

I am having exactly the same problem, also with an iMac and a MBP. My iMac is about 6 weeks old, and I migrated via Time Machine. I can read the files from the connected machine, but cannot write, regardless of which is the host. Permissions are all fine.
I did notice one thing: the UUID number for the accounts is the same (accounts have same name as with darrylh). You can find this under System Preferenes>Accounts and right click or control-click on the account name after unlocking it. I am working with Apple support on this, but no resolution yet. I suspect that the UUID (Universally Unique ID) should not be the same on two machines, but I don't know the consequences of changing it or which one to change.
    Thanks.

  • I tried to authorize a new computer with windows 8. Per iTunes Help, there should be an "authorize computer" section on the iTunes store menu. I only have two computers authorized so I know another one is possible. Suggestions?

I tried to authorize a new computer with Windows 8 for my iTunes acct.  Per iTunes Help, there is an "authorize computer" prompt in the menu selection on iTunes store website. I can find no such listing.  I have two computers linked to my account so I know that adding another one would be ok.  Any suggestions?

Press the Alt and S keys and choose Authorize this Computer.

  • I have creative cloud on two computers can it be on a third as well?

I have creativ e cloud on a desk top and laptop can I also install it on a second laptop?

    Hi reikibill ,
    Welcome to Adobe Forums.
You can use the Creative Cloud on the third machine but in order to do so , you need to deactivate Creative Cloud from any one machine because as its mentioned above a subscription can be used on two machines only .
In order to deactivate you can use the below mentioned steps-
    1) Launch any product from Creative Cloud Application.
    2) Click on 'Help' Option.
    3) You will get the Option to 'Deactivate or Log out ', click on any one which you see and it will be Deactivated from one machine .
In order to use it on more than one  machines you can also refer to Team Membership , below is the link you can follow to know about Team Membership .

  • Syncing two computers to play music at the same time

    hi!
i have two imacs in my house one upstairs and one downstairs is there a way to sync them together with bluetooth so that if i play music it comes out through the speakers on both computers?

Temporarily, move the AirPort Express to the same room as the Time Capsule and power it up for a few minutes.
Then, hold in the reset button on the Express for 10-12 second and release. Allow a full minute for the AirPort Express to restart to a slow, blinking amber light.
I have seen some bugs already with OS X 10.9.3, so we will have to see what happens on your end.
On your Mac, open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
    Click on Other WiFi Devices
    Click on AirPort Express
The setup utility will open up automatically and take a minute to analyze the network and then suggest that the Express will be configured to "extend" the Time Capsule wireless network.
Enter a device name that you want to use to identify the Expess and clck Next
The utility will set up everything for you. When you see the message of Setup Complete and you see a green light on the Expess, click Done.
Now move the Express to a location where it can pick up a strong signal from the Time Capsule. It should be no more than half way to two thirds the distance between the Time Capsule and upstairs location where you want more coverage.  You may need to experiment a bit with the location of the Express for best results.

  • Two iPhones, two computers - need all data transferred to one iPhone

I was using a 2G iPhone and was syncing it with my desktop (Mac) on a regular basis. I was traveling for a month and sorta synced it with my laptop (also a Mac), though I cannot remember whether or not the contacts actually synced - I want to say that they did not, in case it matters. I did purchase and download a couple of apps while traveling, though.
One month later, I decided to splurge for the 3GS (woo hoo!). I now need to sync the 3GS with my desktop and copy the apps off of my 2G so I'll have it all in one place.
I have resynced the 2G with my desktop, but the apps didn't "upload" (not that I expected them to).
I'm sure I'm not the only one out there with multiple computers & multiple iPhones - anyone have any advice for me?
    Thanks,
    roxpat

If you purchased music or apps on the iPhone then the file>transfer purchases from iPhone will copy them to the new computer and should prompt you to authorize the new computer.
If you purchased music or apps on the computer then you will need to copy those to the new computer's iTunes library. This is easy if they are on the same network with Home Sharing within iTunes. iTunes 9: Understanding Home Sharing http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3819
Once all the music and/or apps are on the new computer then make sure you have a good backup on the new computer. You can control-click on the iPhone under devices in iTunes and select backup. Your previous iPhone should contain all your SMS history, call history, photos, contacts, calendars, ect. Now when you connect the new iPhone 3Gs it will prompt if you want to setup as a new iPhone or restore from backup. Choose restore from backup.

  • Two computers, external drive mounting on wrong one?

Weirdest thing: I have 2 computers on my desk:
    Mac Pro and older iMac.
Two WD external drives, one connected via firewire to the macPro, one connected via firewire to the iMac.
The drives are mounting on the wrong computers! (Yes I checked my cables). How is this happening?
    ANY help would be appreciated!!!

or you could continue to network with the cable for security reasons.
you just need to boot the computers disconnected from each other, mount their respective FW devices and then connect the cable between them, and youll be fine.
im internetting with you now on my pro which is FW400ed to another computer that is on the connection. The pro has an external FW drive. One in 20 times, it mounts on the other computer, in which case, i disconnect, mount, reconnect, no prob.

  • Two computers, but icloud is only syncing one way

I have a desktop and a laptop.  Both with MacOX 10.7.2    Both have cloud turned on with the same Apple ID.  Both have calendar and address book syncing selected.   On both machines Calendar and Address Book have icloud accounts set up in the preferences.
The laptop's one address book entry made it to the cloud, and then made it back down to the desktop.
The desktop's 200 address book entries have gone nowhere.   Not in the cloud, and not to the laptop.
If I add a new address to the laptop,it instantly goes to the cloud and down to the desktop (it is impressive     If I add a new address to the desktop, it goes nowhere.
    Same behavior in the calendar
Not sure what else to check.  I can't see any way to 'push' data up.   Software update shows everythign is up to date.   checking icloud.com I can only see the one laptop address.
    Thoughts?  Suggestions?

Always, the second after I post a question....
On the desktop I signed out of icloud and signed back in.  That was enough to kick the cloud to re-sync everything and both computers seem to be talking now.   (yah yah, should have tried that too before posting).   have to admit - signing out of the cloud was scary - lots of warnings that "I'll delete cloud-only things from this computer".   ouch.

  • I have two computers, if I delete songs from one computer will it also delete on the Cloud and on the other computer?

I have a macbook air for travel.  My itunes library is getting too big for this computer.  If I delete music on this computer, how can I be sure it won't also delete the same files on the Cloud and on my computer at home?

Use Windows Migration Assistant to copy all your user date to the MacBook.
See this -> About Windows Migration Assistant.
Using Home Sharing will transdfer the media files, but not the entire library (ratings, date added, artwork, playlists, etc.)
And as diesel vdub metioned, backup BEFORE you do anything.
