Two computers - desktop for songs, laptop for podcasts

Hi - I'm sure that for a while I was succesfully synch'ing just songs from my desktop and just podcasts from my laptop. Now everytime I synch the desktop it wipes all my podcasts. Whats going wrong?

For a laptop for LR image loading on trips - is 1366x768 screen enough and HDD size?

I have big pc and big screens for editing at home, but for travel am looking for a laptop for loading images on the road and basic LR sorting and tagging while away.
2 questions to get your experiences, forum regulars, about my direction:
1. 1tb HDD with an external 1tb HDD as backup - rather than 256 or 512 gb inboard SSD (reasons of $$$ and also to load all my images on a trip)

It meets the minimum requirements for display size which is 1024 x 768
I use a 15 inch Macbook Pro on the road, so pretty close in size.
You may find this video useful on the subject of working away from base and exporting the laptop catalog into your master catalog when you get back.

I am writing this mail to let you know that I am very disappointed with HP regarding my laptop that I gave to the authorized HP repairer(Telefix,260 south road,hilton,sa 5033) in Adelaide.Its been more than a month now and every 2nd day I am calling the repairs to let me know the status of the laptop(for the repalcement of the hinge) and everytime I hear from them that they would be able to repair it by the end of the week for last 3 weeks.I called them today as well and I get to hear the same story and they said that they are still waitng on part from HP.
So can you please expedite the delivery of it as my work is really suffering in absence of my laptop.

Need suggestion for Best Laptop for Premier Editing on the Go

I am a longtime user of Premier and Aftereffects and planning to buy Premier CS4 in the next few weeks.
Considering I travel a lot I need a good laptop to edit my shoot while traveling. I would like to hear from this forum the recommended laptops for editing. I am budgeting around US $2,000/-.
Secondly should I request the laptop vendor for Windows XP instead of Windows Vista considering XP seems to have better speed than Vista. If CS4 is completely 64 bit then I may end up with Vista.
One review suggested Gateway P-7811FX is a good laptop for Photoshop / Premier CS4 since it is a gaming laptop and understand it weighs 9.1 lbs.

Holy crap...do NOT get a Gateway anything.
Gaming technologies and build concepts sometimes are useful in video production builds, but not always. Stuff like graphics rendering often doesn't affect video.
HP has a 17" laptop line in the dv7 that is pretty nicely configured. Dual 7200 RPM drives available, as well as on board eSATA built in (for additional storage, or for connecting to an external RAID array).
Vista 64 is preferable, since the OS can utilize more RAM. Even if the suite itself is only 64bit compatible (as opposed to completely 64bit "aware") you still benefit from the OS being able to delegate an entire set of RAM to each application without sharing from a small pool of only 4 GB. I believe you can configure that dv7 laptop with up to 8 GB of RAM (or at least it's capable of up to 8 GB, but maybe you have to purchase your own upgrades separately).
Vista 32 runs PPro and AE very fast on my laptop, faster than XP Pro ever worked for me. Vista is a little bit smarter about handling physical RAM and processor resources (Vista SP1 made the OS very usable, and 3rd party support is a non issue if you are purchasing new components or a new machine, as you seem to be doing...hiccups come with trying to get 5 or 10 year old hardware and software to work on a new OS like Vista). Don't believe too much of the hype until you've given it a shot.
Oh, about 64 bit support...Photoshop CS4 is 64-bit native (Windows Vista 64 only, not Mac OSX). After Effects and Premiere Pro can open multiple instances of the application for rendering and such to take advantage of RAM availability. After Effects and Premiere Pro do approach this slightly differently from one another, but the end result is still that you have a 32 bit application that is trying to act like a 64 bit one, and from what I've seen so far, that makes a difference over 32 bit OS.

Help! Need a good laptop for school and editing. Budget is around $800 (Canadian).

I'm looking for a laptop for around $800 Canadian, I'm starting a science and technology program in high school so I will need decent graphics performance for editing and 3D modelling. Well if I had I didn't know it. I checked under System Preferences > Hardware - Displays, but that option is not there. I searched around to try to find it, but did not. Can you point me in the direction of that setting? I am hoping that is all it is. Thank you.

What is the best way to manage one library on two computers?

When I add our music into my Library and set my library to share this only seems to allow her to play the songs on her Macbook but not add them to her iPod. Adding our music to her own library raises the problem of new albums I download not appearing in her library unless she manually adds them. I would like a way we can keep all of our music in one folder (on our Time Capsule) but both be able to download music, have it show up on the other persons library, and add songs to our iPods from our own computers.

Correct. You cannot sync an iPod to a playlist provided by iTunes Sharing. The track must be on the computer to which the iPod is being synchronized.

iTunes doesn't have any built-in folder watching capability, so without third-party software help, content added from one computer has to be manually added to iTunes on the other computer. Hazel says it can be set up to add content to iTunes automatically, but I haven't tried it myself.
Alternatively, you can each have your own iTunes library on your own computers and use one of the several third-party utilities to keep the libraries in sync. If that's of interest, post back and I can provide links to the utilities I know of.

Two computers: how to sync plugin export presets?

Apologies if this question has already been dealt with, but I did not find it from the forum.
How should I deal with the following situation. I have two computers (desktop and laptop), and the desktop works as my "master". I want to copy export presets to my laptop for on-the-road work, including the presets that include settings for the export plugins (namely LR2/Mogrify and MetadataWrangler)?
I can easily deal with having identical versions of the plugins in both computers, but how to sync the export presents? Is it as simple as just copying the contents of ...\Application Data\Adobe\Lightroom\Export Presets\User Presets? Before just testing it I would prefer to hear if the solution is that simple, or if manually copying presets would mess up the LR setting on laptop?
Running Windows XP and Lightroom 2.3.

Thanks. There should not be problems with the drive-letters due to "managed" setup on both computers. Have to test if I could set SyncToy for easy copying of setting while on home network.
