Two Computers, One Apple ID, Want Separate My Stations in Podcasts

My wife and I share an Apple ID.  We did this so when either of us buys an app it was obvious that we could put it on either of our devices.  We have separate computers and each maintain our our list of podcasts that we listen to.  I recently upgraded to iTunes 11.1 and now our two computers seem to share the same list of podcasts.  We can keep individual episodes separate on the two computers but we seem to need have the same list of podcasts with the same subscription status on the two computers.

Found the problem - need to uncheck "Sync podcast subscriptions and settings" in Store Preferences.  Now if only Apple would implement Hide Podcasts in Cloud in the list view.

If you don't want them to have access to the same books and other purchased media, they would need to be signed into a different Apple ID in Settings>iTunes & App Store.  If you don't want them to see the same iCloud email, they would need to be signed into different iCloud accounts with different IDs, or have Mail turned off on one of them in Settings>iCloud.  If you want to migrate one of them to a different iCloud account to accomplish this, reply back and I'll explain how to do this.

You can do it. This article from Macworld will be helpful to you:

    I recommend the "brute-force" method.

The serial number for the version purchased on cd can be used for two installations: Mac and PC or Mac and Mac or PC and PC.
The serial number for the downloaded version can be used only on two PCs or 2 Macs (generally), depending upon the version purchased.

  • We have two computers, one solely to be used by my wife. Until now she has used my appleid to buy stuff from the Apple Store but has now bought her own iPad. we are finding it very difficult to remove me from her computer.

Until recently our household comprised two computers but only one iPad (mine) and we could buy from the store on either computer because both computers identified with my apple ID. My wife has now bought her own iPad and created her own apple ID and wants to be able to purchase apps etc on her own accout from iTunes in her computer. We are finding it impossible to take my apple ID off her computer to enable her to buy on her own account because we keep getting a message that only my ID isaccepted. HELP would be apprecaited. Thank you

Mr. Wiclee - thanks for the link.
When I said I had not "installed" iTunes on my iPad, I suppose I meant I have not yet signed in to iTunes, ever.  I suppose when I sign in to iTunes the first time on my new iPad, I will be required to create a new iTunes account?  Then refer to such new iTunes account when I launch iTunes for the first time on my PC as myself?  Or will I still need to use Method Three in your link?
The crucial thing is this - when I turn on iTunes on the PC for the first time with me as User, I do NOT want it to connect to my wife's iTunes account.  On my PC, I would want iTunes to ask me who I am, so I can then sign in with my new iTunes account that I had just created on my iPad.  How can I be sure to accomplish this goal?
In my PC, if I look at Documents and Settings and compare the two folders for we two different users, one for me and one for my wife, I can see that my wife's has Application Data and Local Settings for her various Apple programs.  However, so do I in my User even though I have not yet installed any Apple programs on my side.  I am concerned that when I finall launch iTunes when I am user, it will open up in my wife's iTunes account, which I truly want to avoid.
    Thanks.  Please advise.

  • Two apple ids, two computers, one phone#-how to sync messages on on both computers

Okay apple world, I'm a bit stumped with this one: I have two macbooks, one for work (a 2009 15" macbook pro) and a personal one (2014 13" macbook air) and two apple ids, one for work and one personal one. I also have a 5S iPhone, which I use for both work and personal use. The iPhone has been set up with my personal apple id and my iMessages sync perfectly with my personal macbook air. Now what I would like to do is sync my iMessages through my phone number with my work macbook pro. But when I try to add an additional account, I am only given the option to add a google account or I am told that my (personal) apple id is already in use. Has anyone encountered this issue and do you have any tips on how to trouble shoot through this?

Sync is about synchronisation to Lightroom Mobile, the iPad/iPhone app, not about synchronising from one computer to another. There isn't really a way to sync two computers automatically, but you can use methods such as File>Export/import as Catalog, Dropbox, or copying through the operating system.

  • Two computers, one vault

I am fairly new to using Aperture. I have read quite a few of the how-to's about the vault feature. So, I recently got myself an external drive and told Aperture to set up a vault on it. Here are some questions which I am not quite sure about:
    1) when I now add some images to aperture (as a "managed master") is that image initially stored a) just on my computer, b) just in the vault or c) both
    2) on this computer if I now say "update vault", does that image now get copied to the vault? Is it still kept locally on my computer
I have a laptop which I use for traveling. I am the only one using it as well as the desktop. I would like to be able to work on the same images in either place, so:
    3) Can I use vault as a way to view and work on my images on my laptop when I am traveling and then continuing to work on them when I am back to my big computer?
I thought the answer to 3) was "yes". So I installed Aperture on the laptop (it's brand new) and then 'restored the library" from the indicated vault. It warned me that it was going to delete the local library which is Ok as it was a brand new laptop. But now I am not sure I am doing it right.
Thanks for any help on these three questions!!!
    Pito

Hi Pito.  Let's deal with the Vault first (and then maybe the two-computers set-up questions).
The Vault is a differential back-up of your Aperture Library.  You create and administer your Vault(s) from within Aperture.  It's primary function is to serve as a back-up.  If your Library gets ruined, you can restore from your Vault the last version of the Library that you "Vaulted".
Like any back-up, a secondary function can be to move files from one location to another.  Used this way, the Vault provides little value over simply copying your Library.  So little, in fact, that I see no reason to use it this way.
Your Library is a Finder "Package".  A Package is a special OS X file which contains a group of folders and files.  It shows in Finder as a single file, but you can see what is in it by right-clicking the file and making the appropriate selection.  (Don't alter anything in a Package file.)
So, again, the Vault is simply a specific way from within Aperture to create a back-up of your Aperture Library.  That's all.
    Pito wrote:

Images are not Masters, "Managed" or otherwise.  You import files into Aperture.  That tells Aperture: "Create an image for this file, and keep a bunch of information with it".  Part of that information is the location of the original file.  That file, once it has been imported into Aperture, is referred to as a "Master".  Aperture is non-destructive: the Master is never altered.
The image in Aperture is not a Master.  The image has a Master.  Every image in Aperture has one Master. Some images have the same Master.
The Master can reside anywhere Aperture can access it.  Aperture always keeps track of where the Master is stored (it knows its address).  If an image's Master is located inside the Aperture Library Package, it is said to be a Managed Master.  If the image's Master is located outside the Aperture LIbrary Package, it is said to be a Referenced Master.
When you import a file you specify where the Master should be stored.  What you specify determines whether the image in Aperture will have a Managed Master, or a Referenced Master.
In no case is the image or its Master automatically added to a Vault.  You must manually update your Vault to include recently added images.  The Vault backs up only the Aperture Library.  The Library does not include any image's Referenced Masters.  Therefore the Vault does not include any Referenced Masters.
There is a warning message that tells you this when you update a Vault if your Library contains images that have Referenced Masters.
    Pito wrote:

You should now be able to answer that.

You can, but it's not a good way (at all) to accomplish what you want.  There is a section in the User Manual on exporting and merging LIbraries (which is what you want to do).
Take your time learning.  Aperture is huge and powerful -- and has a long but not steep learning curve.  It has tools to do what you want -- but it takes some time to get it all set up.

  • Two computers, one iphone, one calender, help

I've tried reading through the support pages but am having a hard time figuring this one out. Any help would be great welcomed.
I have two computers that I use on a daily basis. One stays at work, the other is at home. All depending on where I am I will enter info into ical on either of my computers or on my iphone. My computer at work is what my iphone is set to sync to but there are days when I'm not in the office and work from home.
I don't have any music stored on my laptop at home and therefor am under the impression that if I attempt to sync my phone to it then the data will be deleted. I simply mainly need to mirror my calendars between the three devices. Syncing my iphone to my work computer works fine to keep the two in sync together but I do need a way to get the info back onto my computer at home.
I tried .mac for about a month and it seemed to be the answer to my problem but I started having trouble with it a couple of weeks back. It would not sync my laptop and constantly came up with this message: "A failure occurred while synchronizing the .mac sync client". I tried sorting that out with Apples advice but to no avail. I've given up with the .mac and figured that there has to be another way.
    Any suggestions would be welcomed.
    Thanks

No - IF you set it up right. Follow these steps:
    1. Select "Disable automatic syncing for all iPhones" under Edit / Preferences / iPhone in the iTunes menu.
    2. Uncheck "Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected" in the Summary tab of iTunes.
    3. Check "Only sync checked items" in the same tab.
    4. On the computer you want to sync contacts and calendar, check the corresponding boxes in the Info tab. UNCHECK everything else in the MUSIC, PHOTOS, PODCASTS and VIDEO tabs.
    5. Sync your iPhone with this computer FIRST.
    6. On your other computer, follow the same steps above (1, 2 and 3). Then, UNCHECK everything in the INFO tab, and check everything else on the other tabs.
    7. When you sync with this second computer, you may get a message that the iPhone has already been synced with another computer, and that the media library will be deleted. Fine. There should be NO media library on the iPhone since you unchecked all the media items on the first computer, right?
    8. Sync. Then you can sync on both computers and each will sync what is checked and not overwrite the rest.
