Two Computers: One connected, the other is not.

I am on a MacBook with Mac OS X (10.4.10) and am home for winter break where my family has a iMac with Mac OS X (10.4.11). I am currently connected to the our wireless internet connection with the iMac and everything is working fine with this computer, the MacBook is a different story. The AirPort says that I have full service to the same wireless internet that the iMac is running from, but it won't connect to any type of internet application.
I open Safari with the MacBook and the page appears claiming "You are not connected to the Internet." So I click on the Network Diagnostics button. Under Network Diagnostics, it says that AirPort is green, AirPort Settings is green, Network Settings is yellow and the ISP, Internet and Sever are all red saying failed.
How come I can't connect to the wireless internet with my MacBook, but with the iMac, it works just fine? Any suggestions? Maybe you need more information under this topic? Just let me know what else I may need to include.

Have you looked at the iMac's TCP/IP settings next to the Airport button and see if there is anything different? Compare the two and the only thing that should be defferent is the last 3 sets's of numbers for "IP Address:". -192.168.1.1xx- or something similar. Usually all the info there is self assigned buy the router. The last three are the numbers the routers assign to each computer. Imac is .100, the next .101, and the next .102, etc.
Like the previous person said you might try making another location and start over as it sounds like it's an ISP password problem.
Also at the bottom of the TCP/IP window is a button for "Assist Me" which is another troubleshooter, but i'm not sure if it's the same as the web browser one. Either click on Diagnostics or Assistant to start over.

    The work around is to do two documents, one in portrait format and one in landscape format. When finished export to Pdf. open in Preview by select both files and use Cmd + O or doubleclick. You can now in Previews thumbnail column the pages from one document into the other and then save.
    If you have created only one with i.e. all pages in portrait format but with the content for the landscape pages rotated on the pages, you can rotate the pages in Preview. Two ways to get the same result.

    You have to select one or the other.
    Try making two documents and see if you can merge the .pdfs, but their will be problems with page flow, making the pages shift. Can't see it working really.
    Pages is not the only solution out there or the best for most jobs (let alone the safest). Try Word for Mac, LibreOffice (free) or any App that has the features you need.

    I would recommend you to use 0FI_AP_4 rather using both, particularly for many reasons -
    1. DS: 0FI_AP_4  replaces DataSource 0FI_AP_3 and still uses the same extraction structure. For more details refer to the OSS note 410797.
    2. You can run the 0FI_AP_4 independent of any other FI datasources like 0FI_AR_4 and 0FI_GL_4 or even 0FI_GL_14. For more details refer to the OSS note: 551044.
    3. Map the 0FI_AP_4 to DSO: 0FIAP_O03 (or create a Z one as per your requirement).
    4. Load the same to a InfoCube (0FIAP_C03).

    I would think you would drop down the audio level lines in the "Stereo" tab (FCP 6.0.6 view to me) in the clip's video window.
    But then again, in my old version, I can't play two clips at once.  But I figure if the newer FCP allow you to do that, then that's what I would do.

    My Mac mini server has suddenly stopped seeing one or the other bluetooth devices, either the wireless keyboard or the mouse( both apple products) have tried new batteries, at first it was the mouse that stopped responding, but upon rebooting the computer now the keyboard will not respond and the mouse works. Both work fine on an older Mac mini that I hooked back up to check.

    There is absolutely no reason why they should not bothe be able to connect to your WiFi network. The easiest place to start would be to reboot your router. Unplug it for about 30 seconds and then plug it back in again. I would also restart both the iPad and the iPhone.

  • Two libraries -- one within the other

    backed up all my music files onto external drive to clear my HD.
    1. now inside the folder "iTunes Music Library" there is another folder labelled "Music"; some of the files in latter are dupes of the former and some are not.
    other than laboriously going thru the files one by one and deleting dupes, is there a way to now consolidate these two into one single "iTunes Music Library?"
    can i just drag the folders that are NOT dupes from the latter to the former?
    and, despite the fact that there is no "!" next to the song title in iTunes, some of these will not play and i have to find / reimport from the "iTunes Music Library."
    how about if i start all over again with a completely new backup?

    I can't help much with the dupes issue, but perhaps this post might explain the extra presence of the extra Music folder: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=12381336#12381336
    The *iTunes Music Library* folder name might have arisen if you chose to relocate the media folder from the local drive. When you do this you can call the folder pretty much anything you like.
    Dragging stuff around by hand will get iTunes confused. Personally I'd start by reconnecting iTunes with everything in the current folder structure using iTunes Folder Watch, just to be sure you don't lose track of anything. You can always choose to delete anthing you really don't want any more later.
    You could tell then iTunes you want to use a new path for your library's media folder, e.g. X:\iTunes\iTunes Media\ where X is a drive of your choice, and consolidate the library to the new location. I'd also recommend you make your library portable and thus easier to backup/restore in future by copying your library files into X:\iTunes\ and using SHIFT-start iTunes to switch to the new copy of the library.     After that you can worry about deduping. When iTunes tries to create another file with the same tag information it adds a tralling " 2", " 3", " 4" etc. You could try searching for these files with a pattern like "* 2.*", delete them (you'll still have the originals on the other drive in case of a mistake), then use iTunes Folder Watch again to remove the now orphaned entries. The drawback is that you might remove the older entry for a duplicated file instead of the more recent one. In part it depends on whether details such as Date Added or Playcount matter to you, if so you're probably better off deduping by hand.

    We have two MBPs on an Asus router (N56U) and we find that only one computer can connect at a time.  Within a few seconds of the other connecting, the one that was connected disconnects.  When we try to log on again, we're told that the connection timed out.  Or it "connects" but there is no internet.  Any advice?

    Thank you for this.  I agree:  the problem seems to be either the router or the modem.  I now have an Airport Extreme and am hoping this solves the problem.
    Only now I have another problem--the airport utility can't find the airport extreme if I plug in an external harddrive into the airport extreme.  I should start another thread for this, yes?

    While I agree that it would be nice if it was easier to transfer media from your Apple devices they should never be used as the sole location for any of your media.     Before Firefox 7 the service used to take some time to upload the changes and then to download them. Make sure that you wait several hours to confirm that it's not something else.
    You can force them by using the "Sync Now" option in the Tools menu.
    Fortunately, the behavior have changed with Firefox 7 and now the bookmark changes are instant.

    I am trying to record a vocal mic and a keyboard (using a software instrument) at the same time using Garageband 10.0.1.  It seems that I can't record the mic input and the software instrument at the same time.  I can record the mic input by itself, and I can record the software instrument by itself (if I don't have a mic input track created), but I can't record them together.
    It seems like this should be an obvious thing to be able to do, but I can't figure out how to make it work.
    Can someone help?

    I have compared settings between the two and cannot see any difference.
    Both iPads worked fine last week. One made a trip to MI  and used cellular access just fine. Now that one still uses cellular OK, but refuses to "join" the wifi.
    Too bad I can't attach a picture.
    Anyone care to offer a unique workable solution I have not tried?

    Have you tried renewing the lease in the WiFi settings? Settings>WiFi>Your network name>Tap the blue arrow>Renew Lease. If you haven't tried that - try it first before reading the information about restoring the iOS software.
    Follow the instructions in here. If you are unsure about anything - do not proceed. Post back with questions first.

    Make sure that you transfer all purchases, backup the iPad and sync with iTunes first. When you restore to factory settings, iTunes should ask if you want to backup first, but it will not hurt to initiate a backup on your won before you even start the restore process.

  • Two Apple TVs. One going, the other not. Why?

    I have 2 Apple TVs. One 720 the other 1080. The 720 is working fine and will operate at either TV.
    The 1080 will not work at either TV.
    I go to set it up and I get all the screens including passwords, itunes account etc, but cannot get on to my network.
    The DNS.Router, Password etc settings are identical on both Apple TVs.
    I tried all avenues using my wi fi connected to my Apple TVs, to no avail.
    Trouble shooting from Apple and from Forums I have followed all the advice.
    Currently I am downloading as per instructions from my Mac Book Pro via micro USB.
    It has been running for two hours or more, still shows another 13 hours to run. BTW I do have ADSL 2 Broadband which is usually quite fast for anything else to download.
    Several times I have done this as after several hours it pops up the message "Cannot Contact Server at this time".
    So I start again.
    Also going through the check list from the iTunes Help  on the tool bar, I am getting a message "Take to Apple for Service".
    My guess is that the Apple TV is faulty and needs to be either replaced or serviced.
    Alhough I do not know how this could be done as it seems to be a solid "puck" like device and completly sealed.
    My 720 Apple TV has been performing without fault since new, I can upgrade my iTunes each time a new one comes out (the latest one is installed) or a new IOS from Apple is installed (currently IOS 10.8.2 Mountin Lion).
    Apple TV is a great add on for my computer and home entertainment, but I am sick of wasting my time trying to work through this glitch...

    Also, sometimes my second Apple TV isn't showing on my iTunes either. This is very frustrating!
