Two Computers - One IPod - Syncing

Hi, my laptop is in the shop being fixed and I want to add music to my IPod from my desktop without transfering all the music. I am adding music I downloaded from a cd. Can you please help? I have tried to find the answer, without luck. Thank you and happy 4th of July!

I have a (product) red 2nd gen shuffle that i bought in Feb 09 and it has 190 songs on it. The problem is that In March I had to send my laptop off to Toshiba because of hard drive failure, Now I get a message that my ipod is synced with anotjer i tunes library and it wants to erase and re sync. My problem is that there are songs on this ipod that are not on my computer anymore. How can I get these songs off the ipod or will i just lose them?

Can I use my shuffle to carry itunes back and forth from home to my work computer? I installed Itunes on my work computer today, thinking I could just treat my ipod as a storage device, dragging my library off the ipod over to the work desktop. it didn't work. can I do it? how?
    thanks for the guidance...

    Ron,
Don't know if this helps, but I have a similar problem. I just want to connect my shuffle to two different computers. There's quite a few articles that make it clear that the shuffle can only be associated with one at a time, so when you plug it in to one computer you have to lose all the data you had on it from before. That's a pain but if that's how it works, I can live with it. But after I move the shuffle over it all looks ok in iTunes but then, like you, I get no audio.
I did make it recover from this once but wasn't really sure how. I'd be interested if you got any further with your problem.

  • Two computers, One iPod, One messy problem

I have a G5 computer back at my home, but recently, I decided to move. With the move I bought a new iPod and a MacBook Pro laptop. Before I left I transferred all my songs from my old G5 to my new iPod.
But now that my MacBook Pro has arrived, I've been unable to transfer songs from my iPod to my new MacBook Pro.
What I want is to basically have my new MacBook Pro be the authorized computer to my new iPod (transfer songs, DL songs, fool with my playlists), but I can't do anything like that because I think my old G5 is the only authorized computer for my iPod.
    Can anyone help me?

Use the instructions in this article to transfer the music. To authorize a computer to play purchased music, connect it to the Internet and play a song purchased from the iTunes music store in iTunes; you can authorize a maximum of 5 computers. Once authorized, you can transfer music purchased from the iTunes music store to your iPod on your new computer.

You can do it. This article from Macworld will be helpful to you:

    I recommend the "brute-force" method.

I'm not sure if I'm in the right forum for this question, but I don't know where else to ask about installing on cross platforms. So, the computer I use at work is a PC. The serial number for the version purchased on cd can be used for two installations: Mac and PC or Mac and Mac or PC and PC.
The serial number for the downloaded version can be used only on two PCs or 2 Macs (generally), depending upon the version purchased.

  • Two apple ids, two computers, one phone#-how to sync messages on on both computers

Okay apple world, I'm a bit stumped with this one: I have two macbooks, one for work (a 2009 15" macbook pro) and a personal one (2014 13" macbook air) and two apple ids, one for work and one personal one. I also have a 5S iPhone, which I use for both work and personal use. The iPhone has been set up with my personal apple id and my iMessages sync perfectly with my personal macbook air. Now what I would like to do is sync my iMessages through my phone number with my work macbook pro. But when I try to add an additional account, I am only given the option to add a google account or I am told that my (personal) apple id is already in use. Has anyone encountered this issue and do you have any tips on how to trouble shoot through this?

Sync is about synchronisation to Lightroom Mobile, the iPad/iPhone app, not about synchronising from one computer to another. There isn't really a way to sync two computers automatically, but you can use methods such as File>Export/import as Catalog, Dropbox, or copying through the operating system.

  • I have an Iphone 4S and two computers, can I sync with both computers? When I click on manual manage it says I have to delete songs from phone

I have two computers, my desktop has much more music on it, but my laptop is 10 times faster.  I originally sync'd my iphone 4s with the desktop to try and keep the hard drive on the laptop from bogging down.  My desktop is on it's way out and I'm trying to sync with the laptop but itunes won't let me.  When I go into my iphone on the computer I check off to manual manage music and when I hit apply it tells me that the iphone can only be sync'd to one computer and requires the contents of the phone being deleted.  Is there anyway around this or am I going to have to delete everything and go through my laptop?

This is from article on device with multiple computers:

  • Multiple computers, one ipod?

New ipod, probably old problem, appreciate help. Using ipod with two computers, each set to manual organization of music in itunes. Wish to get both computers on "same page" and then auto-sync b/c it is apparently a large annoyance to manual sync. Cannot manage to import (tried using flash drive) library from one computer to other one (so that I can then reverse the process and have two computers with same library).

  • Two computers won't sync address books anymore

I have these two computers with related software:
    One G4 1 GHz dual processor, OS 10.3.9, iSync 1.5 (v139), Address Book 3.1.2 (v321)
    One G4 1.5 GHx Powerbook, OS 10.3.5, iSync 1.5 (v139), Address Book 3.1.2 (v321)
In the past I've always been able to sync the address book contacts between the two through my .Mac account and iSync. Today it won't work--although oddly enough the Safari bookmarks DO sync up. But not the address book stuff. Anybody know what might have happened that would change this?

  • Two computers, one iphone, one calender, help

I've tried reading through the support pages but am having a hard time figuring this one out. Any help would be great welcomed.
I have two computers that I use on a daily basis. One stays at work, the other is at home. All depending on where I am I will enter info into ical on either of my computers or on my iphone. My computer at work is what my iphone is set to sync to but there are days when I'm not in the office and work from home.
I don't have any music stored on my laptop at home and therefor am under the impression that if I attempt to sync my phone to it then the data will be deleted. I simply mainly need to mirror my calendars between the three devices. Syncing my iphone to my work computer works fine to keep the two in sync together but I do need a way to get the info back onto my computer at home.
I tried .mac for about a month and it seemed to be the answer to my problem but I started having trouble with it a couple of weeks back. It would not sync my laptop and constantly came up with this message: "A failure occurred while synchronizing the .mac sync client". I tried sorting that out with Apples advice but to no avail. I've given up with the .mac and figured that there has to be another way.
    Any suggestions would be welcomed.
    Thanks

No - IF you set it up right. Follow these steps:
    1. Select "Disable automatic syncing for all iPhones" under Edit / Preferences / iPhone in the iTunes menu.
    2. Uncheck "Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected" in the Summary tab of iTunes.
    3. Check "Only sync checked items" in the same tab.
    4. On the computer you want to sync contacts and calendar, check the corresponding boxes in the Info tab. UNCHECK everything else in the MUSIC, PHOTOS, PODCASTS and VIDEO tabs.
    5. Sync your iPhone with this computer FIRST.
    6. On your other computer, follow the same steps above (1, 2 and 3). Then, UNCHECK everything in the INFO tab, and check everything else on the other tabs.
    7. When you sync with this second computer, you may get a message that the iPhone has already been synced with another computer, and that the media library will be deleted. Fine. There should be NO media library on the iPhone since you unchecked all the media items on the first computer, right?
    8. Sync. Then you can sync on both computers and each will sync what is checked and not overwrite the rest.

  • Can two computers, one USB, other LAN, both use an HP 6310?

    Hello,
Might be daft question. I have an HP 6310 all in one which I sometimes use (with difficulty, but does work) with Bluetooth and sometimes with USB. This works fine with one computer that was originally set up with the USB option.
I now have two computers and also a wired (LAN) network through a network switch and the router. Can one computer be set up with the USB software for local printing and the other with Ethernet, and still access the printer? You might ask why I don't just use the LAN on both, but I would just like to know if it is possible. I guess it comes down to whether the setup sends data to the printer to determine which method of connection to use, or is the printer just "dumb" and responds to whichever source is connected to it.
Naturally, as the only user of the network, I would not be using both computers at once for printing to avoid any conflict.
Many new printers are supplied with wireless 802/n capability, but is their a device that can convert the 6310 to wireless 802/n?
    Thanks
