Two computers the Firefox/Options applications lists differ, one only downloads .pdf. Help

I have a notebook and a tower PC, both running XP Professional SP3.
Both run Firefox 16.0.1. I prefer Firefox to any other browser I have tried and have had very
few problems.
However, the Firefox on the notebook will only download .pdf files.
I checked the list at Tools>Options>Applications and it seemed strange.
When I compared it with the same list on my other computer I was amazed at the difference.
The list on the other computer has many more entries.
How can I bring the notebook back on track? this is the computer I use most.

Could not find mimeTypes.rdf but what I did find was a lot of "Old Firefox Data" folders plus 3
file fragments and a removed file.
I tried the reset but no change.I do appreciate the effort you have put in on this puzzling
problem. However, as I become aware of the oddities shown above I feel a clean start will be
worth the effort. I'll let you know how it goes.

Secondlife.com has a system to access their world straight into their virtual world environment called "slurls" which can be used on any webpage. It appears that in IE this system works correctly, but not in Firefox.

To use servlets u have indeed to update your web.xml...Well I'm not sure this is relevant to your case anyway.
You have to add a <servlet> element to this file.
Something like this:

Now this may not solve your problem. Make sure you refer to your servlets using their full qualified names.btw, just to be sure, what is your definition of "servlet"? (i mean: any java class or only javax.servlet.Servlet)

To start Firefox up with a blank page with a blank page instead of your home page, you can type or paste the following in the "Run" dialog, or maybe in the charms bar search box (I haven't tested that):
firefox.exe "about:blank"
I'm not sure why Outlook.com -- which should redirect to the Live Mail login page if your previous session cookies have expired -- would freeze Firefox.

That is your answer then.
Large is 960x540
Medium is 640x480 (or 720x480)
Mobile is probably 480x272.
It is offering you the sizes that make sense given the size of your source material.
As a trick, you might try this. In your project, put a short 640x480 clip in the project as the first clip of the project. Then keep the rest of the project as is. See if it will let you share now in Medium. It will not look as good, because there are not enough pixels to cover the Medium size, but it might work.

Have you checked the app settings for the Play Store?
Motorola also has data or power management settings that can restrict how applications can downloads updates.

You can't check this with code that runs on the server or via JavaScript in the web page.
Note that current Firefox version do not expose the built-in PDF Reader via the navigator.plugin array, so if you can't detect a plugin than maybe assume that the built-in PDF reader is used with Firefox version 19 and later.

Can i change the behaviour for the firefox menu so lists open instead of opening the 1st option?

is it possible to adjust the way the orange firefox menu behaves when you click an option?
currently hovering over an option opens the list underneath it(such as a list of bookmarks for the bookmarks option, or a list of visited pages for the history option) and clicking it opens the first item in the list.
i'd like to change this so the list is opened when you click an option too, since it's not possible to hover using a touchscreen.
it's rather annoying when the bookmarks management screen opens if all i want to do is bookmark the current page(which isn't possible from that screen)

i just downloaded what seems to be a preview/test version for the new interface(the browser calls itself UX) and its menu is a bit more touch friendly.
it does seem to have 1 major issue, if you put the bookmarks button inside the menu the bookmarks list can only use the height of the menu instead of the full height of the screen.
jscher2000: tapping the little arrow works, but it's too small to comfortably use.
i'll try out UX for now.

Do a clean reinstall and download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
You can initially skip the step to create a new profile, that may not necessary for this issue.

I just downloaded Firefox 17 on my pc. I cannot get the Firefox toolbar to come up. Only an option to set Yahoo as homepage comes up.

When I click on the Mozilla Firefox shortcut, only the Make Yahoo! your home page comes up. WHERE IS THE SHUTDOWN OPTION IN LION ? I ONLY HAVE ,SLEEP,LOGOUT

ALL I have under the Apple Logo is sleep,logout & force-quit,i dont have ,Restart or Shutdown ,So I do not know how to shutdown my MBPro since i upgraded to Lion?
I have tried to suss what the problem is but the only way I can safely shutdown is to press the on/off power button once ,then i get a grey screen with the option to RESTART,SLEEP & SHUTDOWN?
Is this the new way to shutdown my MBPro with LION OSX,seems strange to me?
I also do not have the slider option on the Finder ,to change to coverflow,list etc & LAUNCHPAD is constantly displaying a message saying 'LOADING APPS.... but all my apps are now in LAUNCHPAD since I dragged my Applications folder from my HD?

System Preferencs --> Users & Groups --> Login Options --> "Show the Sleep, Restart, and Shut Down buttons".
These buttons are not shown by default at the login window in Lion Server, but they are in Lion (not server).

Lately when I launch Firefox an alert window comes up asking of I want this program to make changes to the computer. Also, I am unable to download PDF files from other sites.

This Problem started about two weeks ago.

Check that you do not run Firefox as Administrator.
Right-click the Firefox desktop shortcut and choose "Properties".
Make sure that all items are deselected in the "Compatibility" tab of the Properties window.
* Privilege Level: "Run this program as Administrator" should not be selected
* "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" should not be selected
Also check the Properties of the firefox.exe program in the Firefox program directory.

When I open TB the start page is not the usual. I lists Local Folders only. Nosend, tool or menu bars.

I do not have a normal opening page when I open TB. The only thing listed on the screen is a list of the Local Folders on the left of the screen with only 3 columns listed. Subject, From and Date. There is no address list, tool or menu bars, write, send, view etc. The change in the screen happened several weeks ago. I depressed some key and the screen changed from the normal to the one that shows only the local folder screen. I have not been able to answer any of my email or write any new ones. I have concluded that if there is no other option, other than uninstalling and reinstalling TB again please let me know. I have been without email for about 3 weeks now and that has to be fixed. I'd appreciate any help that you can give. I am not computer literate and technical language or program writers explanation are usually not easy for me to decipher so if there is no easy solution to my problem let me know and I will uninstall and reinstall the latest version. I want to thank Grospen for the solution to my problem. I started TB in the safe mode as he suggested and followed his instructions and behold I got the original start page back. I still have to add a few things but because I now know that I can get back to to the factory default settings I won't hesitate to try some of the options that are available. Thanks to all for a job well done.
