Two Computers & Two OS

I have an older iMacG5 (Power PC) running on Leopard and a newer MacBook (PC & Intel) running on Snow Leopard. I have been using the TM and Time Capsule on the iMac for about a year. Can I now add the MacBook to the TM/TC configuration so it gets backed up, as well ? The data on the two computers are similar but not identical.
Would appreciate some advice.

Yes, probably, if it's large enough (see #1 in the Frequently Asked Questions *User Tip* at the top of this forum). All you have to do is, on the MacBook, go to TM Preferences and set it up normally, selecting the TC.
If the TC is already near full, there may not be room for many, if any, backups of the MacBook. If that happens, post back and we'll show you a very tedious workaround.
Otherwise, TM will keep the two sets of backups completely separate. Each will have it's own sparse bundle, identified internally by each Mac's +Ethernet address,+ a unique number embedded in the hardware on the logic board.
If you're running Windoze on the MacBook via BootCamp, TM will not back-up the Windoze partition.
But if you're running it via a virtualization app, be sure to exclude the virtual machine file from TM (TM Preferences > Options, or see #10 in the FAQ Tip.) If you don't, TM will back-up the entire virtual machine every time anything at all is changed on it, quickly filling-up the TC. You'll need another way to back it up.

  • One iTunes, two computers, two iPods help?

I have one iTunes account shared between two computers. An iPod touch is on each computer. How can I separate the account but yet have the same one? I hope that this makes sense to everyone wanting to answer. I also found that if I purchase a song on one iPod, it goes to the other one as well. How do I stop that? Thank you for your time.

To allow sharing of purchases but not automatically download when the other person makes a purchase:
    - On the iPods go to Settings>iTunes and App stores and turn off Automatic Downloads
    - On the computer go to iTunes>Preferences>Store and turn off Automtic Downloads
To allow separate Messages, FaceTime and iCloud (calendars, contacts etc,
    - Create one NEW account using these instructions. Make sure you follow the instructions. Many do not and if you do not you will not get the None option. You must use an email address that you have not used with Apple before.

  • Two computers two ipods

I have a desktop pc as my nano home.
I have a new laptop and a new 80G ipod, I want ALL my music on the biggin' and just the travel songs on the littlun'
Do I need an external harddrive to save all this?
When I consolidate my library does this double the amount of room taken up by my music files?
    Main Question:
How do can I share the same library on two computers but only have 1,000 songs on the nano and 10,000 on the other?
    Thanks

  • Two computers, two itunes libraries, want to consolidate to 1

I have two computers both with itunes, both with songs loaded and I want to consolidate or move everything to one computer using one itunes library. Both computers are running windows xp.

There are a few utilities that can help you sync iTunes across different computers. You could begin your research by having a look at these for instance:
    TuneRanger
    SuperSync
    syncOtunes

  • One iPod, Two Computers, Two Countries.

So, I'm sure this has been hashed to death elsewhere, and this will either turn into a rant, or there will be a solution. So, here we go.
I'm an exchange student in Finland, and about 2 months after I got here, my iPod was hooked up my laptop, which then froze and completely wiped out my entire iPod of music. Absolutely blank. So, I've since gotten more music for the stupid thing. Now I'm just worried about when I go home and having that +stupid as ****+ message about "already sync'd with one library, delete everything to continue". I've gotten it here with my boyfriend's computer.
See, thing is, I'm not staying home. I will only be there for about a month and a half. And I cannot put all the music that I had on my home computer onto my laptop, because there is simply not enough room (I had over 12,000 songs, about 47 GB).
Now, if there's a way to have music for my library on an external drive and never have it actually taking up space on my laptop, then I suppose I could live. Please, dear god, tell me that is a viable option. I've been going nuts without my music.

I have two computers and one iPod.
I know I can use both of them with my iPod, as long
    as I add files manually.
Just wanted to know if there is a way to update it
automatically in a way that the files that came from
    the other computer aren't erased.
    Thanks
I also have two computers and one iPod. I have set up one computer to update library/playlists automatically, and have set up the iPod on the other computer for manual updates. Although the songs appear in iTunes, the playlists don't, and I can't move any songs to/from the computer/iPod. The manual says it can be done, but it isn't working. Have you been able to move songs to/from your iPod/computer since you set it up like that?

  • Two Iphones, two Computers, two itunes

I am sure this was posted I just can find it.
I have two computers and two i phones. My wife has all the music on her computer. Can set it up that I can get her music on my i tunes to sync to my iphone or do I just need to get the music from her computer and the rest from mine, like my contacts and such.

I have a similar issue - 2 computers, 2 iPhones, 2 iPods, one each for myself and my wife. We have a 115 gig library on a NAS but we don't seem to be able to use it the way I'd like. It seems pointless to duplicate the library on both machines, or even more bizarre - duplicate it on the NAS itself. Is there no way to have one location for the actual music files with separate library files for each of us? I'm happy to "import" the listing into my .itl file, but I don't want to have to create a physical copy of each imported track - that's a waste of space.

  • Two Computers two itunes libraries... 1 Iphone

I have two computers - 1 iphone and 2 itunes libraries... is there an easy way to make the two Itunes libraries sync, so i don't have to constanly make sure both libraries match, so it doesn't delete the stuff i want, and so podcasts etc don't download twice?

I know what you mean. At home, we have 4 iPods, but only one PC. It was very difficult to manage so many ipods from only one itunes library. My Dad look on the internet and found out this. Actually, this is a pretty cool tool because you can create your own library, add or delete the music you want, without affecting the other's libraries. What I like the most is that I don't have my brother's music on my ipod anymore!!!!
    Hope it helps

  • Two computers, two modems?

    Hi,
A short time ago, I finally got high speed internet (DSL) for my iMac G3 (400 MHz). I was prompted to do this because my modem was a dud and dial-up became impossible for me. Now I have an external modem and after ironing out a few wrinkles with my ISP, everything is good. However, a housemate has a PC that is not connected to this great system. Can anyone tell me how to get the second computer connected? Is it possible to have both a mac and a pc connected to the same modem? Are there ethernet cable splitters that will do this job? Or do I need to get a whole second modem and if so, can the two computers be online at the same time?
Sorry if this is basic; I am still learning.
    Thank you in advance.

Buy an inexpensive wired router. The router will use the single IP address given to you by your ISP and create multiple local IP addresses. It will support both the Mac and PC.

  • Help with two computers, two accounts on one apple tv

I'm about ready to pull the trigger on an apple tv to add to my building home theater system. My biggest desire in getting the apple tv is mainly for music streaming to my speaker system. So here is my question. My wife and I both have our own separate itunes accounts, separate itunes libraries on our own macbooks. My question is if it will be a problem to access both of those itunes libraries through the apple tv. I have the remote app for my iphone and can control both of our libraries with that, and can switch between both easily on the iphone, but will the apple tv be able to play different libraries without difficulty? I don't know if i need to set up home sharing because both libraries are currently on different accounts, so i don't even know if it's possible.
Any help, suggestions, or ideas would be appreciated.

JKStraw - but you understand that when you use the appleTV you can stream from a computer without "taking over" the iTunes on that computer?
there are two mode for streaming to an appleTV..
    1) you can stream what is being played on a computer's iTunes Library through airPlay and remote control the iTunes on the computer with the remote app
    OR
    2) you can just access the files in a computers iTunes Library from the appleTV without affecting the computer at all.. you could be playing a song on iTunes or not on the computer and be playing a completely different song on your appleTV.. you just enable home sharing on the appleTV and computer.. from appleTV you just go computers > +the name of the iTunes Library+ and you can access all your songs, video etc on that computer without affecting that computer at all..
on the remote app you can link to an appleTV and 1) just use gestures to navigate the appleTV or 2) skip the appleTV GUI altogether and view what's available directly from the remote app.. click on something and it plays.. again this in no way affects what's happening on the computers the appleTV is linked to..

  • Two Computers / Two Monitors

I have a Power Mac G4 and one of the early Mac Mini's. Sadly, still in the dark ages with VGA monitors. I have a dual monitor setup on the G4 that comes in handy for Photoshop and Final Cut Pro.
I would like to consolidate, and lose the monitor on the Mac Mini. Is there someway I can use the dual monitor setup for both computers with some kind of A-B switch? Any ideas where I might find something like this?
Thanks for your help in advance.

    Gary,
There are many KVM (Keyboard/Video/Mouse) solutions available for PC. Some work on USB, rather than Serial Bus input devices and so should work on Mac, although I think they're nearly all VGA connections for video.
Been a few years since I looked, so I'm sure there must be some out there that are now USB and DVI. Can't remember the other TLA (three letter acronym), other than KVM that is used for these boxes), someone else will know and post.
The really hard part is finding one with two video ports for each switch, but I'm not sure that you actually want to try to drive two monitors off the Mac Mini. It would definitely be easier to run one monitor off the ADC on the PMG4 MDD and share the other monitor between the MDD and the Mac Mini, so just requiring the one DVI port on each switch.
Even finding a KVM supporting two video sockets on each switch would have to have one DVI and one ADC for the MDD.
A good KVM (or the other TLA) would make sure the MDD wouldn't get upset by switching away the DVI video connection.
Google is your friend. All I can say is never buy Belkin, it's tat, and make sure you read a good few customer reviews (not a few good) before choosing which to buy. Amazon, UK and US is good for reviews.

  • Two computers, two accounts

I have two of the same computers, one at work, one at home. They have different ITunes accounts. Is there anyway to get my ITunes library from work to my home computer and vice versa? I would greatly appreciate any help.
    Thank you

You can use your iPod (if you have one) in a couple of ways.
    1) As a portable HD and simply load all of the music files onto and then transfer them to the other computer.
    OR
    2) You can sync the iPod with one of the computers then use a programme like Senuti and take the songs off of the iPod.
The latter of these two options is probably more desireable since you get all of the raitings and playcounts etc. transfered.

  • Two Computers, Two iPods - how to sync between all of them?

    I have four Apple products:
    Mac Mini, OSX 10.6.4
    Macbook Pro, OSX 10.6.4
    iPod Touch 8gig, 3G iOS4
    iPod Touch 32gig, 3G iOS4
I have different apps on the Mac Mini than I do on the Macbook Pro, and different apps on each iPod Touch. I want to sync them. I want to be able to put the apps from my Mac Mini on my 8 gig iPod touch, and put apps from my Macbook Pro on the 32 gig iPod touch. (My husband has bought some apps I want on my iPod, etc.)
How can I do this? When I plug my 8gig iPod touch into the mini (the 8gig has previously been synced with the Macbook Pro) it tells me that in order to sync apps from the Mini it has to delete all the apps on the iPod.
They were all bought using the same account.
How can I put all the apps on all the machines - or, at least, both iPods?? Is it possible? Click and drag for apps doesn't work.
    Thanks!

Thank you - homesharing is exactly what I wanted. Never noticed this before. (Never owned two Macs before!
    Thanks!

  • Two computers, two iphones.....can we share one itune account?

Sorry in advance if I sound alittle confused...
I have an itunes account and have purchased a number of apps that my husband would like to sync to his new 3G phone using his computer.
It would also be easier to have both our charges billed to the same credit card.
We also have very different tastes in music so I would prefer not to mix libraries.
    How can we do this?
(He downloaded itunes to his computer but I stopped him before he registered his phone)
    Thanks,
    Kathy

Use the single iTunes account on both computers, and only download content on the computer you want that content to be on.

Two. The same as before. You will need both LR6 & LR5 serial numbers.

  • Internet by high-speed DSL cable and two computers sharing the cable

I have a DSL cable going to my computer. It is high speed 100mbps internet. There was a modem supplied but I do not use it. I just stick the cable which comes out of the wall into the computer using the USB ethernet connector.
When I plugged the DSL cable into the modem then connected the modem to my computer, the internet speed was slower (about 30 mbps) so I did not do that.
If I want to use wireless internet though I do have to use the modem.
When the service provider technician came to my home to hook everything up, he said something about purchasing a router from him. He said that way I can have multiple computers using into the internet.
Since I only had the one computer at the time, I did not take him up on his offer.
Now, I want to use two computers––two MacBook Airs––using the cable. I prefer the cable to wireless because it's very fast.
Before I go and buy any equipment, I want to know what I need.
Do I buy just a router and then put the cable that comes out from the wall into a socket and then connect the other two computers to the router, or do I need to get a modem as well?
Just to remind you that when the modem is connected to the computer, the speed drops a lot even though the cable is connected to the modem.
If I need a modem, do I need to buy a special modem or is the one that I have good enough?
Sorry, if this sounds like a basic question but I don't really know much about routers and modems. I surfed the internet a bit on this but I still am not sure what to do.

Step one: Visit http://www.giganews.com/line_info.html and post up the Traceroute the page shows, if you wish. Be aware that the final hop (bottom-most line of the trace)  might contain a hop with your IP address in it. Remove that line. What I'm looking for is a line that mentions "ERX" in it's name towards the end. If for some reason the trace does not complete (two lines full of Stars), keep the trace route intact.
Step two: Can you provide the Transceiver Statistics from your modem?
As to where that is, it seems to be at
    STATUS > WAN STATUS.
