Two devices, two different podcast configurations?

I fear I may have posed a question to the wrong sub-forum, so I'm asking again here.
I'm sure someone has this answer to this, and I'd appreciate your expertise
I have an iMac, and use it to sync and manage my podcast playlists for an iPod Touch and iPad Air. The Touch and Air have entirely different content; the Touch contains music and audio podcasts, while the iPad Air contains video and video podcasts. As Apple suggested, separated the playlists accouding to device, to easily sync with iTunes:
...and so far, this is working perfectly. Except when it comes to podcasts.
If I add a podcast to my iPod Touch, a sync will automatically cause the podcast to be added to my iPad Air the next time I sync.
I want to have completely different podcast playlist on my iPod Touch and iPad Air. How exactly do I do this? Feel free to include links to explain the solution.
Thanks!

My guess for this: if you want to have different content on your different devices, then you need to disable uncheck the "Sync podcast subscriptions and settings" box (in iTunes / Preferences / Store: there's a list of checkboxes in the bottom half). But this is going to lead to other complications.
Route 1: download podcasts only in iTunes on your computer, and then sync to your devices through playlists. This could work for some people, depending on how much you care about getting current podcasts.
Route 2: download the podcasts only on the respective devices, and listen to/watch/read them only on those devices, not on iTunes on your computer - in fact those podcast episodes never appear on iTunes at all.
My current use (with just an iPhone) is a hybrid of the above: I've turned off syncing podcast subscriptions and settings. I subscribe to "disposable" podcasts on my iPhone - those are the radio shows that I listen to basically right away and then get rid of. I subscribe to "permanent" podcasts on my desktop - those are the more "audiobook" ones that I could may listen to this week, or may listen to next year. I change the media kind of those permanent podcasts to Audiobooks so that they'll behave more reliably when syncing. Every few days, I wire-sync my iPhone to the computer to copy those podcast-Audiobooks over. (I turned off Wifi Sync long ago. Too unpredictable.)
Caveat: the latest iTunes (11.2.2?) has made the above procedure yet more of a hassle, with podcast episodes in iTunes refusing to disappear.
I only use podcasts on my iPhone, not on my iPad, but that's because I don't deal with any video podcasts - your desire to use video podcasts on one, and audio on the other, makes perfect sense to me. My own take on this is that podcasts in iTunes work fine in isolation, and podcasts on iOS devices work fine in isolation, but the syncing is a big mess. I'd like to think that Apple is trying to improve this, but each update seems to fix minor issues (now at least the play order thing is working properly for me in the Podcasts app), while making the big issue - syncing - worse.

Can I use iCloud to sync two devices with different apple ID's

What do you mean by "apple ID"?  There's an ID you can use at the iTunes store to buy songs, apps, etc.  there's an ID you can use for your iCloud account - the two can be different or the same. So which service are you referring to when you talk about an apple ID?

  • Can I backup two devices (with different documents) to one iCloud account?  For example: iPad and iPhone, not everything is synced between the two, but I would like to backup each (seperately in the cloud), is this possible?

    Hello Apple Community,
Can I backup two devices (with different documents) to one iCloud account?
For example: iPad Air and iPhone 5, not everything is synced between the two, but I would like to backup each (seperately in the cloud).  Is this possible?
This way when I change from an old ipad to a new, I can restore with the ipad backup, and when I change from an old iphone to a new, I can restore from the
    iphone backup.
    Thank you in advance!

Terminology check here. Do you really mean a "CD"?  There's a difference in Cloud behavior between content from a physical CD you ripped (which only has Cloud content if you have iTunes Match) and an "album" you bought from the iTunes Store.
    Read references for Home Sharing.

The above can get pretty complicated.  You are probably best off by syncing both devices to a single library and/or updating the libraries on both computers to have the same content.

iTunes content can be commingled in the iTunes library on a computer and synced to iOS devices. The computer must be authorized to use the content from the respective Apple IDs in the iTunes Store menu.

  • Two devices. Different apps?

I have a 2nd gen. iPod touch with numerous apps. I intend now to get an iPhone but want to keep the iPod touch. Does anyone know how I can sync both devices with my computer, so that some of the apps will stay on the iPod touch, but not get transferred to the iPhone?
Specifically, I am using truphone for the iPod touch, but do not want this to get synced to my iPhone. Relatedly, when I place truphone for the iPhone on to my new iPhone, I don' t wish to have this app go to the iPod when I sync the devise.
Also, to free up space on my iPhone, I may want to store some of the apps on the iPod touch only.
    Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

iTunes will recognize each device as a separate device and you can make whatever sync choices you want for each. You can select some apps for the phone and some for the ipod and some for both as you like.
I have both an iPhone and an iPod Touch and I select the apps I want by choosing "Sync selected apps" in the applications tab for each and checking the apps I want to sync from the list of available apps.

    hi
I have a COC account attached to my Game Center and now my cousin is giving me his COC account and I want to play his. The problem is that I could not get his COC account onto my iPhone even if I download the game and log in game center using his apple ID. I still get my game version. What should I do to get his game? Thank you!

  • Two devices, two users, same Mac -- share/merge Apps?

My dad has an iPad 2 with his own Mac OS X user acct and Apple ID. I have my iPhone 4 with my own Mac user acct and separate Apple ID. We both use the same iMac.
Is it possible for us to share apps? I hate buying lots of apps twice.

Is it possible for us to share apps?
Yes. The machine should already be authorized for both accounts. You may need to go through the steps of authorizing the other account in each profile, however it shouldn't consume an extra one of your five authorizations for each account. Once authorized you can import the apps from the other user's profile.

  • HT2480 two devices on my itunes account, want different apps for each

I have two devices on my itunes account, an ipad I use for business and an iphone I use mostly for personal.  I want to keep only business apps on my ipad and most/all apps on my phone, but every time I try to sync, itunes tries to reinstall all of my apps regardless of device.
Does anyone have a solution for how I can have two devices with different selections of the apps I have paid for without downloading all of the apps to each device?  I tried just not syncing the ipad but then it had technical problems and the genius bar needed to delete a bunch of notes from the device, so that is sub-optimal.

You need to set both devices up in itunes to sync manually: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1296

  • How can I tell if signals from two devices are truly synchronised?

    Hi there,
How does one check that signals from two devices (two separate devices in a single X-series chassis) that should be synchronised actually are?   I am using a PXIe6361 and PXIe4331 on a PXIe-1073, with Labview 2001 SP1 64-bit. All devices are using the Sample Clock from the 4331 device, and an AI Start Trigger, so they should be synchronised.
I thought that writing the signal data to file and checking the time stamp for each column of data would be the most accurate, but I have been told that timestamps are software created and therefore don't reflect the actual time that the signals were acquired by the hardware.  When I do this, the timestamps vary by up to 150ms which is larger than I expected.
If I set the x-axis of the waveform graphs (on the GUI) to "Time" then it appears that the first data sample is taken at different times for the two plots (one plot per device).
If I set the x-axis of the waveform graphs (on the GUI) to "Ignore time stamp" (so that the x-axis just starts from 0 rather than a date-time) then the first data point occurs at "0" for both graphs. However, I'm not sure that this reflects the actual alignment of the signal.
What is the best way to check if signals collected on different devices in the same chassis are actually synchronised?
    Thanks,
    Claire.

    Hi Lynn,
Thanks for your help and for sending the demo.
I understand the concept of how the signals will look if they're not synchronised and your demo shows that nicely. I guess I have been perplexed by someone else telling me that the timestamps in the output file (and following from that I assume timestamps on a waveform graph) do not give an indication of whether signals are synchronised. The reason they gave for this was that the timestamps are manufactured by the software, not the DAQ hardware.  They suggested that I put the setting "ignore waveform timestamps" on my waveform graphs, and then check that both signals come in at the same time (i.e. both start at zero), but I'm not convinced about this.
When I use an analog trigger, neither the timestamps in my output file or on the two waveform graphs are synchronised. If I don't use the trigger, then there is far less disparity in the timestamps in the output file. I've attached two output files here, and my VI.
This is my first attempt to synchronise a voltage module and a strain gauge module on an X-series chassis, so I want to make sure that I'm achieving the best synchronisation that I can, and the difference in behaviour with and without the trigger worries me.
    Thanks,
    Claire.

  • CW2000 ANI Server is finding same devices with different IP addresses

The ANI Sever is finding devices by multiple ip addresses. One devices is showing up as two devices with different ip addresses. It will show up with the loopback under its hostname and also find it by a serial ip address.

  • Syncing Two devices to one iTunes Podcast Library

I use iTunes on my MacBook as the central hub for subscribing to and managing my podcasts, then selectively sync different podcasts to two different devices. Now, with iOS7 on one of those devices, I can't play the podcasts through Music anymore, and have had to start using the awful Podcasts app on that device. Things were not syncing properly, and when I unsubscribed something on that device, it also unsubscribed the podcast on my MacBook. All I want is for the device to contain the same podcasts as my MacBook, not try to download podcasts on its own, not say things are unplayable if there are more than five episodes backed up, not to play podcasts in the wrong order as a result of these weird backlog issue, and change nothing in iTunes when it syncs. Actually what I really want is for it to work through Music again so I can delete this pointless app that just blew away a good chunk of the podcasts on my MacBook because I was trying to get rid of podcasts from the phone that were not checked in the "Only sync episodes of selected podcasts" screen in iTunes.

  • Syncronization: How can i store mail for different accounts remotely, and copy most important mails manually to local folders on two devices?

Hello. I have two devices and two accounts, so what i want is this:
I only want to store mail from both accounts in a remote place and copy most important mails to local folders.
(I will be grateful for any ideas as to where/how this "cloud" can be - specially free places)
    * Can I have a copy of these local folders in both devices and the remote storage?
    * Could i synchronize devices so that: when i move a mail to a local folder in any device, its copied to the same folders in
the other device and the remote storage place?
    * The remote storage place will have many other folders. When I open Thunderbird, I also want to see these and the mail
inside, and also be able to move mail from the inbox to these folders.
    * One of the accounts is gmail. In Account Setting tool, there is an option for synchronization. If there is no easier way, I can have mail for other account copied to gmail, and just syncronize gmail mail. For this, how will I copy my present folder structure to gmail. And how can I syncronize the local folders on the two devices?
    Thanks in advance.

The first awkwardness I see is that there's no obvious format in which to store messages remotely such that you can work with them in an email client. It may be possible to set the "Local Directory" option in the account in Thunderbird to point at some remote folder (DropBox comes to mind) but I have never tried this and I'd be nervous about what happens if connection can't be made, or if you happened to access it from two different places simultaneously. The other concern is that mail stores get big, quickly, and you'd be forever uploading and downloading large (multi gigabyte) files. Thunderbird stores what looks like a folder containing many separate messages as one big file, so there's no simple opportunity for incremental changes to be up/down loaded.
The whole idea of Local Folders in Thunderbird is to detach messages from servers, so they don't track what happens on servers. I say this to point out the distinction between files stored locally and permanently ("Local Folders"), versus cached copies of online files ("synchronized"). It's not safe to regard your synchronized folders as permanent.
So, synchronized folders on an IMAP server are "mirrored" in Thunderbird so you do have a local (albeit temporary and transient) copy of messages; this is done mainly to avoid repeatedly downloading messages if you re-read them, and it makes searching faster an more efficient. But these "synchronized" message track what's being done on the server, and so if they are deleted anywhere, all synchronized devices will at some point also see the deleted messages vanishing. (Unless you made a local copy in the Local Folders account.)
I use a gmail account pretty much as you have described; I copy or move messages to that account so they are visible in my phone, my tablet, my own laptop and my works computer. It's free, and it's "in the cloud"; the only reservation I have is its privacy. There are other providers (e.g. 1&1/gmx) who don't seem to have the data collection fetish that google thrives on.
It's fairly simple to create filters in Thunderbird to automatically copy messages to your "cloud account"; even better is to set up forwarding rules on the other accounts' servers, so your messages are automatically sent on and waiting for you when you next login, already in the cloud account.
