Two different monitors as multi-monitors

Is it possible to run a two-monitor display using two completely different monitors? I'm replacing an ancient desktop with a Pavillion 500-c60 (Win 8.1), and also bought a W2371d monitor for the new machine. The old PC used a perfectly good, but ancient, Samsung 17-inch monitor.
What would happen if I tried to include my old monitor in my new setup? If I were able to use dual monitors, I would of course make the new HP the primary one. Still, it would be valuable to me if I could have the additional display acreage from the old monitor. However, the displays are not only from different manufacturers -- they are from different vintages, different sizes, different standard resolutions. Is it even possible to do this?

Hi,
Yes, you can use TWO different monitors as mentioned:
AMD Radeon HD 8400 graphics (combined with the processor)
Supports DX11
DVI and VGA output ports (both ports can be used at the same time)

    Hello,
it's tricky to integrate the Lenovo L2461X into a multi-monitor environment. It looks like only if the L2461X is the main monitor you can use it as a touchscreen - if you choose an other monitor as main, the touch input from the  L2461X effects only the main monitor.

Use the server. VIs have a property to set their panel window position.
The Application server class has a setting to read the array of monitor
information. You can also just arrange the panels interactively and
    save them.

  • Two different monitors on TV

I am seriously considering buying an Apple TV, because it looks like a very good home theater solution.
The only thing I am a little uncomfortable with, is that I would have to fire up my projector if I want to listen to my music with the Apple TV, which seems like overkill.
So here is my plan: I would like to hook the Apple TV via the components to my projector. The projector has no DVI and no HDMI input. To listen to music, I would hook an additional 17-inch monitor to the Apple TV via the HDMI with the help of an HDMI to DVI cable. The 17-inch would be mounted in the stereo rack.
I was wondering if both video outputs would work at the same time, because if I had to switch the output option back and forth in the settings menu every time I want to listen to music or watch a movie, I would not consider this option.
It would be even greater, if I could assign different resolutions to the different outputs, because my projector is natively only EDTV, whereas the 17 inch supports 720p. But if that's not possible it is not a terrible problem, the projector can down-convert the 720p to its native resolution. Did anyone try this or something similar?
    12" PowerBook G4 - 1.25 GB RAM - MacPro - 2 GB RAM -  Mac OS X (10.4.9)  - 40 GB iPod 4G

    Hi all,
thanks for your help and suggestions. Oh how I love DRM I did not think about the whole handshake issue. Although it is not 100% clear to me, why per specifications the component must be switched off when HDMI is running. In the given scenario (that the content requires the handshake) the components would have to be disabled anyways, regardless of a possible HDMI connection.
Also I read somewhere in this thread that the components are not switched off when HDMI is connected.
I want to buy the TV to make my life easier and my home theater less cluttered. I could already connect my computer to the projector via a switch box, so buying several up- or downconverters or a second TV kind of defeats the purpose.
Also, the 17-inch monitor I have in mind is "just" $199. It runs 720p native, has DVI in and a VESA mount, it sounds like a perfect match. I would prefer a smaller monitor though, like a 8 to 12-inch or something, but it looks there aren't any with the right inputs and/or resolutions. Plus, they are much more expensive.

  • Posterized colors on two different monitors with Mac Mini, late 2014 model

Sometimes when I leave my Mac for a while (like an hour or more), I come back to a black monitor, then click the trackpad to wake it up (I assume it is "sleeping" but I don't see a way to make the monitor sleep), I am faced with posterization of the colors and crumbly text, like this:
I can "fix" it by going into System Preferences > Display and change the rotation to 90 or 180 or something. The screen clears up right away. Then I revert to the normal rotation. This is an ok workaround but it is not convenient. I never had this problem with my MacBook.
I first saw this issue with my late 2014 Mac Mini that I got a couple months ago, and it has happened with both monitors I have tried: an old Benq monitor attached with DVI (DVI to Thunderbolt adapter) and a new Thunderbolt Display. The Benq was connected using a DVI to HDMI adapter. I no longer have this monitor. The Thunderbolt Display is attached directly to the Mini using the Y cable to the Thunderbolt port on the Mini.
Yosemite version is 10.10.2. It doesn't happen if I wake the Mac while it's showing the screen saver.
The only things I have checked under Energy saver is "Wake for network access" and "Enable Power Nap". I don't have anything Scheduled, as I don't have a specific time of day I want it to turn on and off, but I would like the Mac to wake up right way and display correctly if I have to leave the Mac for a while during the day.
I've seen other similar threads, but so far all the suggestions I've seen talking about upgrading to 10.10.2 (which I have) or some sort of workaround involving sleep settings (which I can't quite understand). I'm going to call the Mac Store where I bought the Mini next week, or when I have some time, but I have a feeling they aren't going to be able to help me much. It seems like this is such a common problem with the new Mini's I might be stuck with it, unless someone has a better solution or workaround.

  • Using TWO iTunes at the same time on different monitors on Mac Pro:

Here is what I want to do:
I want to use a Mac Pro with two displays to play videos from iTunes in full screen mode on the second display while simultaneously playing music not associated with the videos on the main display.
Is this possible or do I have to get a completely separte application to play the videos on the second monitor?

I don't know of any way to get iTunes to play two different things at once, nor to get two instances of iTunes to launch at the same time. So I think you'll have to play either the music or the videos with another app.

  • Multi Monitor - different Screeen Saver for different monitor - Setting for notebook computers...

    Hi,
I have a question about the multi monitor, screen saver setting for Windows 7.  I'd like to know 2 questions.
1.) if I can set different screen saver settings on different monitors
2.) If I can do it, can I work on the external (or non-primay) monitor, when I have the primary monitor with "blank" screen saver?
Basically, I put my notebook computer at the docking station at work, and the docking station is connected to a 22" monitor, desktop keyboard and mouse.  So, at work, the 22" monitor and K/B would be my primary use.  However, I still "flip"
open the notebook monitor for dual monitor use.
I'd like to "save" the notebook monitor when I don't use it for 30 min. or so...  I'd like to "power" it off or set it so that it would only turn on if I move my mouse to that screen.
Is there a way to do it?
    Thanks

    Hi
There isn't any way to do what you are describing.
The reason is that both monitors have the same source for the video. You can extend the video to the second monitor, but this just gives you more screen space.
The screen saver will only display on the monitor that is set as the default and when the screen saver starts, the other monitor will be blank.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to split one monitor into two, differently configured desktops

    Hello,
I have a 27" iMac. I would like to split the screen into two differently configured desktops or monitors. Apps like TwoUp or Divy don't exactly do this. I'll explain it with an example:
Suppose I'm working on a document and I need to open many folders to retrieve files. One common problem is that opened folders overlap each other and sometimes they overlap with the document I'm working on, or they go underneath the document. I would like to split the screen vertically in, say, two virtual, independent desktops/monitors, like this:
    - one window/space on one side (say, on the left) of the screen would contain the document  from top to bottom, with no dock bar on the bottom
    - the other window/space (right) would behave as a regular, full desktop, with the entire dock on the bottom
In this way, if I need to navigate to find a file to use in the document, I would move the cursor to the right. The Finder would work only in this window/space, thus windows or other applications would never overlap or clutter the left side of the screen. Drag-and-drop from right to left should be possible.
One way to imagine it is as if the 16x9 monitor were comprised by two vertical, 8x9 independent monitors side by side, each with its own configuration.
Is this possible? Can anyone recommend an application or type of setup?
    Thank you,
    -celso

    Looking for something like this?
You can tell Display Maid to save the positions of your open windows across many apps and later restore those positions when things become a mess. With Display Maid you don’t have to restore windows one at a time, or even one app at a time. Display Maid restores all saved window positions across all apps with one command. It will also restore window positions automatically when it detects a workspace change.

The GPU(s) in your T400 (and most other laptop brands) will support two different displays concurrently.  If you want to support more than two different displays concurrently, you will need another GPU external to the T400.
Generally, if you want to use two external displays on a T400 you will nee dto use a docking station.
I have read messages on various fora on this topic and know that there are a number of ways of doing this, but as I have never had a need to do this myself I can't tell you how to go about it.

  • Mac mini server on two different location

    Hi,
With my partner we are working on very havy image file from two different location. we wont to be able to share those file to each other easly and quickly mad make sur those file are allways up to date.
    - My first idea was to install in my place one mac mini server with external hard drive (RAID 0) and install the same server in my partner place. then I would like to create a VPN connexion between both Mac Mini server and setup a kind of RAID 1 between then. link that if my partner modify an image file on the server, With a short delay I will be able to see it on my side. this solution would be the best for me as all the data would be save in two different location and I would not have any backup issue.
I did not buy the MAC mini server yet but as soon that I know the best soluiton and that it is possilbe to do so I will buy it.
    - My second idea (if the first one is not possible or if you guy's convins me that my idea is stupide) would be to have one MAC Mini server in one location setup with an external hard drive in RAID 01. my partner will need to connect to this server through VPN. This solution seems to be a good option but my partner will need to copy the file in local to work on it (few Gb eatch file) and copy it back on the server when he finish to work on it.
With this solution I will also need to organise manual backup through another hard drive to avoid to have all our data in the same location.
Witch one of those solution seems the best and can work with MAC mini server? If you have another idea for my situation I m more then happy to read it.
Knowing that other user may need to access to my file, is the MAC Mini server VPN connection safe and fast?
Thank you in advance for your help.
    Chris.

The fact that you are both working on multi-gigabyte
files, the statement BDAqua made about network speed
is a big issue.  Small incremental changes in a single
multi-gigabyte file still require that entire file to be transferred.
There in lies the big issue with network speeds.
Basically, it seems idea 1 will probably not work well and
besides, RAID is for local drives and not for over networks.
One solution to the synchronization issue is have a single
computer that has the application and the data and log into
it and work remotely.  However, it sounds like these are image
files and working and any kind of graphics over a remote
connection is problematic unless there is a very high speed
    network connection.
Second idea is the simple solution.  As for the backup, that
can be automated with backup software and the backup could be
    put any where.

We have numeric codes at each level above item which I represents the sort order (the number in parentheses at each level), and the items themselves should be sorted according to item number. I have implemented this (level code/item number) as an attribute in AWM making this the default sort order. However, as item is the lowest level in each hierarchy, I have only been able to list the items under the correct level in one hierarchy. As soon as I drill using the other hierarchy, the levels above item are sorted correctly, but the items appear at very odd places...
The AWM documentation states that if default order is not selected on any attribute, hierarchies are sorted in the order they are created. Is there a way to control this order?
Any input will be greatly appreciated!
