Two different network managing icons in KDE!

Hi, i installed knetworkmanager and two icons appeared after reboot, but i just want one.
One is the normal icon that also appears in kubuntu, the other one is somethin like a blue circle with a blue bar at its right side indicating signal strenght, i dont want to have the second one.
If i uninstall knetworkmanager both go away, but if i install it both come back, i can hide the unwanted one, but i don't want it installed, any fix?

did you install knetworkmanager from AUR? You need kdeplasma-applets-networkmanagement from [extra].

  • How to use two different network cards on RT?

Hi everyone... I'm currently working on a project where I have to deal with the issue mentioned in the thread's topic: I have a PC with RT LabVIEW that has to be able to establish network connections using two different network cards. One will be used to connect via TCP/IP with a host computer that will show the data transmitted through shared variables; the other will communicate with another PC through Modbus protocol. The key is that each communication is done through a separate network card.
So far I haven't been able to figure out how to configure both things to happen. Does anyone know how to do this? Any tips will help.
For the RT communication I'm using a standard RT project, with the RT PC being given one of the IPs, and for the Modbus part, I created an I/O server with a master and a slave. Separately everything works fine, but when I get them together it simply won't work.
    Thanks for your help!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Sorry it took me so long to answer, I've been busy lately....I've found a solution to the problem I mentioned, and just in case anyone has similar problems in the future, I'll shortly describe what happened.
As Caseyw suggested, it was necessary to enable both network cards through the Measurement and Automation Explorer. The cause of the connections malfunction was actually that I wasn't using the "right" protocol for the Modbus communication, which ran on the secondary adapter. The solution was to use the URL protocol with the correct path on the field, addressing the right IP address. To avoid making this post a mixture of topics, I won't elaborate futher, but I got the gist of it, so if anyone is having similar problems whether it is working with several network cards or with Modbus communication protocols, feel free to contact me, I'll be glad to help.
    Thanks

  • [SOLVED]No Network Manager Icon in system tray

Hi, the network manager doesnt appear on my notification area, I can see the process is running (Im typing this from arch) and everything works fine, but I dont have the icon to create new connections or see Ip address, gateways and stuff.

will do and come back with results
Back, Ok that was very helpfull, as soon as I see the last post I realized that indeed I DONT have network manager listed on my daemons, and thats why there is no icon, and the fact that I still have Internet and stuff its because im using the old configuration (the one from the beginners guide).
Im pretty sure thats the reason so I will go ahead and test it and come back with hopefully good results.
    DONE
Problem was exactly that, you have to disable "network" daemon from rc.conf and put "networkmanager" there.
cheers and thanks for the help.

  • Airport Express wont setup to two different networks

AirPort Utility was unable to find your AirPort wireless device after restarting. I have tried to setup two different Airport Expresses with two different home networks with the same result.  It simply wont restart to join the network.  I have setup others with luck but these two and not restarting.  This router is Netgear, but the other netwrok was Airport Extreme.

I won't try to help you with that Netgear router, but are both the AirPort Express and the AirPort Extreme 802.11n-capable?  Is the AirPort Extreme configured to "Allow this network to be extended"?  How did you try to configure the AirPort Express?

  • RAC Nodes on two different network segment, what can go wrong?

In two node RAC, what are the disadvantage if both nodes are on different segment of the network?
So both node will have public interface on different segment, but interconnect will be on same segment.
Both nodes have same gateway and both network segments goes to same switch.
It is Solaris, Oracle 10g (10.2.0.4)

    Hi,
The Public IP addresses and virtual IP addresses must be in the same subnet.
This is necessary because the VIP-IP (both nodes) should work on both public networks.
Recently I set up RAC Extended with diferents networks (subnet). When all nodes is up everything is fine. But When one node down, clusterware freeze node survive because he try setup vip-ip (different subnet) from node down on node survive.

  • Can I share files between two different networks at same location?

Until TWC can offer DOCSIS 3.0 later this year or next...
    - In my home I have a closet where all my audio, video and network come together.
    - I have two cable modems from Time Warner
    - Modem A goes to a WRT320N; 192.168.0.1
-- This router connects all my "heavy" downloads, ie. DirecTV receivers, Netflix, home server w/videos, gaming, etc.
    - Modem B goes to a E2000; 192.168.1.1
-- This router connects my everyday use computers so they don't suffer poor speeds from all the traffic on Modem A
My question is, how or can I somehow share files between these two routers without the need for hitting the modems? Obviously I can just push files over the Internet but I am doing it at a much slower speed due to upload restrictions on the modem.
Thank you for any help on this!

The easiest way would be to assign LAN IP 192.168.1.2 to the WRT320N and disable the DHCP server. Then assign static IP addresses in 192.168.1.* to all devices connected to the WRT at the moment, e.g. 192.168.1.10, 255.255.255.0, gateway 192.168.1.2, DNS 192.168.1.2 (or DNS servers of your ISP).
Now you can connect a LAN port of the WRT to a LAN port of the E2000. All DHCP clients get the IP address from the E2000 which will assign the E2000 as gateway, i.e. they use the E2000 for internet. All other devices will have static IP addresses and use the WRT as gateway.

  • Same Mac, connecting to two different networks, one by Ethernet, one by Wi-Fi. How to see both networks at the same time?

On this Mac, I have access to the company network (and Internet) via the Ethernet port (gateway 192.168.1.1).
At the same time, I have a second (backup) Internet link via Wi-Fi, to a different ISP (gateway 192.168.3.1)
At the least, I would like to view the company network from the Finder AND access Internet via the Wi-Fi link.
I have minimal knowledge of network stuff, but if I could redirect the browser requests to the Wi-Fi link, maybe it would work?
    Thanks for your help!

Oh well... just found the reply...
Changing order of the connections, putting the Wi-Fi first as it gets the HTTP first.
Don't know why, but it would not work yesterday!

  • Communication of XI with two different networks

I am new to XI.I have a scenario where I need to send message from R/3 to third party system which is on different LAN.XI server and R/3 are on same LAN.Can you please help me regarding the same.Do I require PCK in this case or can this be done using SOAP ADAPTER.

    Hi Sheetal,
    <b>>>Its a .Net Application.As per my Knowledge</b>
    ok..
<b>>>the problem is server is on separate LAN and .NetApplication is on diff LAN.If this could have been done thr http can u please tell me how.Or is it possible thr SOAP</b>
    Go for SOAP receiver Adapter..
<b>>>What is the use of PCK??</b>
By using PCK your XI will connect to PCK (small XI server) and the latter will be used for communicating with the receiver system.

  • Is it possible to have a BB registered on two different networks for data purposes?

I am travelling away in a few days and usually when I go away the network (O2) allows me to purchase an international roaming data bundle. Now due to some EU legislation they dont supply that bundle anymore and instead have to pay £6 per mb.
So I am thinking of getting a local sim card when I go away and ask the network to register my BB so I can use all BB data services.
When I return I will want to pop my UK sim back in and use the BB as normal.
Is this possible? or will my UK network have to release my pin first?
    Thanks
    Sal

It is possible, but you or your UK carrier will need to remove your PIN of that device from the first network before it will register on another network, and the same when you return to the UK.

  • 1 blackberry using 2 x SIM cards registered on two different networks in 2 x different countries

I have a BB Bold 9000 which I'm taking travelling with me for 6 weeks.  It's my intention to use an account I already have set-up on an old BB in my current Bold 9000 (which is unlocked).  I'd be grateful if someone could confirm the following:
    1) Email... is the email i receive on the BB handset dependent on the BIS accounts I have set-up which each mobile phone provider?... so when I switch SIMs my handset will automatically update the mailboxes for whatever accounts are registered on the relevant SIMs BIS account
    2) BBM... list of contacts remains intact.
Any help would be gratefully received.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

If the SIM you place in the BlackBerry has a BIS account attached to that phone number, the PIN of the new device should register with that account, and your email should flow... you might need need to push the service books to the device.
You BBM contacts which are on that 9000 should remain intact as to what was already ON that 9000 device.
On your BlackBerry device, go to:
    1. Options > Advanced > Host Routing Table > Menu > Register.
    2. Resend your service books from your carrier BIS site:
    From your handheld device:   http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB15402
Go to the Personal Email Set Up icon and log in. Then under Help!, select Service Books, then select Send service Books.
    From your desktop PC:  http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB02830
North American Carriers - scroll down to select your carrier
WorldWide Carriers - Find your carrier on the list
    3. With the BlackBerry device powered ON, remove the battery a few seconds and then reinsert the battery to reboot. This reboot, even if you have already done this, is often needed to install the service books.

  • [SOLVED] Network Manager confusion on reading WiKi

I have installed KDE DE...I am unable to start the network through NM...
On going thru Arch Wiki , https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NetworkManager
I understand that there are 2 NMs available..One is for GNOME but works in all DE (backend), Other is "Knetworkmanager" which is for KDE.(backend)...
The frontend GUI is Gnome- applet and KDEplasme-applet
It is stated under KDE 3.5 , that Knetworkmanager is not supported but available in AUR...
    My doubt is as follows
    1. What should I install for KDE backend? --- Gnome Networkmanager or Knetworkmanager (Is the version for 4.4 & above supported?, wiki is silent on this)?
    2. For Frontend should I install the Plasma widget or the GNOME applet?
    3. If backend is GNOME network manager will it work with KDE plasma widget (front end) ?
    4. In /etc/rc.conf , in "DAEMONS = " should I give "knetworkmanager" or "networkmanager" If I install the KDE version?
I had installed WIcd to test my settings...It was working initially after typing
    modprobe b43 <for bcm chipset>
    /etc/rc.d/network start
    /etc/rc.d/dbus restart
    /etc/rc.d/wicd start
    ifconfig wlan0 up
    dhcpcd wlan0
    wicd-curses
Then I typed the network pwd and booted my interface.
i wanted to go in for network manager as it would save me the typing time..(Currently I installed pacman -S networkmanager (GNOME version) and KDE plasma "the one with the icon similar to "m")But on selecting the interface it goes thru Activating Interface and then says "Network Connection failed"
Now I am also not able to get wicd up
    Any pointers?
EDIT ---The title says Graphical Front end managers, So I guess there is only one backend....In that case , why is my Network not working??All the wireless are detected ,so there is no problem with firmware....I have also enabled dhcpc (automatic)...So it shld fetch an IP address....dunno what the problem is..

    1. there is just one, networkmanager. network-manager-applet and kdeplasma-applets-networkmanagement are just front-ends to networkmanager.
    2. https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ne … nager#KDE4 , but https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ne … ager#GNOME will work too. I use network-manager-applet on KDE 'cause the KDE front-end can't set a system connection.
    3. I won't even bother to answer to this.
    4. networkmanager!!!
vikrang wrote:I have also enabled dhcpc (automatic)...So it shld fetch an IP address....dunno what the problem is..
if you are using networkmanager you must the networkmanager daemon, not network. replace network with networkmanager in rc.conf in DAEMONS array.

  • Mock RFP for SUN network management tool, desperate 4 help, just need specs

OK, I have a project that in essence is a mock Request for Proposal (RFP), I play as an intern, & our instructor roleplays the manager we need to convince. The different network management tools that were available were for example; HP Openview, Cisco Works, Sniffer....& I of course chose SunNet. We need to gather information on the tool, then turn around & design a relatively simple network from the specs that were given, & finally discuss how the management tool's abilities could benefit the (mock) company...power point presentation & all.
Here it is from the homework sheet given to us...."These products will need to be useful in a 5000 node network that has four main locations that are primarily Ethernet. There is a legacy 100 nodes of Token Ring attached to a mainframe. Cisco or Foundry routers connect the Four main locations, with swiches employed. Other connections to these sites are done via DSL or ISDN. Additional considerations are wireless communications, VOIP & Content delivery systems.
I know this is a lot & I'm not asking for someone to do all this for me, just simply provide any information you know about Enterprise management tools 2.0 or 3.0,or anything you may feel better suits my needs, as the links I have surfed about them give little to nothing about specifics that I need to make any argument. If you have any links send them...if you have anyting in hard copy I will pay for postage... I need to get this done & have little time as I go to school & work full time at Motorola (but only as a contractor), so I'm starting to choke & need help....any u can give is so very appreciated....& sorry to make this request a publishable novel here on the board, but thats what it is. Thanks again......Mark

A good solution. Liked it very much. Can you please make it a technet blog for others.

I assume you're running nm-applet --sm-disable once you get a window manager session up?
Try starting networkmanager after hal. From the wiki:
You must also "disable" the default network daemon, and add the hal, dhcdbd and networkmanager daemons in this order:
    DAEMONS=( ... !network hal dhcdbd networkmanager ... )

  • Problems assigning different locations to different Network Names/AirPorts

At my office, I have two different networks:
    1. AirPort where I need to use a static IP setting on a my Mac.
    2. Airport where I need to use a DHCP.
I would like to assign a network name (AirPort A) to one Location A and another network name (Airport B) to Location B.
Previous to the Intel-Chip Macs this was no problem at all. Then the Intel-Chip Macs came which had 10.4 installed, and it was no longer possible to assign certain network names to certain network locations. However, with 10.5 this problem was solved until most recently, when I realized on a few of my Macs that it would not switch to the other AirMac, even when I switched the locations. The proper network names are assigned to each network locations.
It is likely a problem with Keychain, but I even tried to reset my Keychains and also erased the complete "login" Keychain and created a new "login" Keychain. But I am still experiencing the same problems.
Has anyone experienced the same problems and found a way to solve this problem.
