Two domains + two servers + one static IP address = DNS confusion

I'll try to keep this simple:
I have two domains, two mac mini SL servers, one airport extreme, and multiple static IPs, but only one of them pointing to the router. I've configured DNS successfully for the primary domain (example1.com) and thought that I had set up a second primary zone for the second domain (example2.com) but all external requests point to example1.com.
So the two setups i've tried are:
Reverse zone
1.0.10.in-addr.arpa.
- 10.0.1.200 - example1.com
- 10.0.1.201 - example2.com
Primary zone
example1.com
- example1.com - 10.0.1.200
- example2.com - 10.0.1.201
OR
Primary zone 1
example1.com
- example1.com - 10.0.1.200
Primary zone 2
example2.com
- example2.com - 10.0.1.201
Does anyone know of a good tutorial for hosting multiple servers in an internal network, pointing to one name server internally? I've looked everywhere and cannot make sense of the issue.
Thanks in advance.

After sleeping on it, I came up with a much easier solution that works better for what I'd planned in the first place. I hung a spare router off my gateway and set up a completely different network for the second server and everything is great now. I knew there was a reason I'd signed up for five IPs...
In any event, I don't think I would've been able to accomplish what I was trying to do while using the Airport Extreme as my firewall. I wanted to have separate static IPs for each of the boxes and obviously I couldn't do that with the airport, although it took a while for me to recognize that.
thanks for the suggestion, though. I think I'm going to use that for some subdomains.

  • Can we have two domains websites in one SharePoint server?

I have two load-balanced WFE servers hosting SharePoint 2013.  I would like to have two domains rendering different websites on this.  For e.g., I would like to have http://abc.com and http://xyz.com on the same server/farm.  Is it possible?
    Thanks in advance!

No that won't be an issue.
As far as SharePoint is concerned each web application is capable of functioning a more or less independent system.
    This process describes the process

You would simply follow that process twice, using a different domain name in the host header field.

  • Servers losing static IP Addresses

    Hi There,
We have been experiencing a very strange problem now for several months. We have servers that loses there static IP addresses intermittently - this can happen when the server is rebooted or when the server is running, there is no consistent pattern.
This has happened to both VM servers and physical servers. It has happened to VM servers running on Microsoft Hyper-V and VMWare.
We run our server infrastructure across different hardware(Dell, HP).  When we check the network properties via GUI all is fine but when you check from command prompt it's showing the 169.x.x.x address against a card. If we
enable\disable the NIC it resolves the issue.
This issue is now becoming very disrupted to services, at least once a week we're now seeing this issue. The event logs are not giving us any information.
Has anyone come across this issue or provide advice what would be the caused. It's happening across all versions of Windows Server from Windows 2008, 2008R2, 2012 & 2012R2.

    Hi,

Next bit, can you physically get to the servers?  If so, are you able to switch them off for a short time?  If you can, make sure the network card[s] are properly seated in their sockets.  Sounds daft but I've come across this more times than
I care to remember.  Whilst they are down, could be a good idea to check all the hardware is properly and firmly seated.
Then have a peer at the location.  Is there a lot of vibration around the servers?  This might be disrupting the power supply, the servers themselves or the network.  The vibration could be almost anything - a server next to a busy doorway,
especially with wood or "bouncy" floors can be quite problem.  Does the janitor run the vacuum cleaner near the server[s], is there any machine that causes vibration or excessive noise?
To give you rough idea, I dealt with an intermittent network failure caused by the photocopier being slightly unbalanced.  If we hadn't been standing next to the photocopier when it was being used we would never have known.
Might as well have a peer at the network and make sure all the wires are good, the routers and such like are all good and firm and are not the cause of any disruption.  Check the wires themselves, they may be broken, especially if they go around some
difficult corners or just go round a corner.  Check the sockets as well, for loose fitting and to make sure the correct plugs/wires have been used.
Finally actually check the cards themselves, they may be faulty.
Oh, and maybe have a look at the operating temperatures of the servers and the environment.  Too hot and things can go wrong; too cold and things can go wrong; temperature fluctuations are not good and so on and so on.
Quite  a lot to go on there, sorry... :(
Maybe someone else can chime in and help this seeker of knowledge?
    Cheers

  • Static IP address--still confused.   Is this correct?

Hoping someone can check behind my work here...
I have a Time Capsule device. I'm posting here as this involves the internet connection piece and I think that deals with the airport part of the device.
I had a static IP address running for about a year with no problems. Then, one day about a month ago my time machine device seemed to have a meltdown. Lost my connections, had to start over, etc. Because I ran into all sorts of problems setting up the IP address again I just went with the DHCP and skipped the static IP address. I tried again this week to set it up. The related port forwarding seems to be working but my connection has slowed down dramatically, especially if connected to a bit torrent site that is downloading fairly slow (much slower than in the past).
I guess I'm confused b/c the instructions on the net seem to talk about setting one area (under system preferences/network) but not in the airport part of the settings. Here's what I did.
    1. Went into system preferences/network, and modified the "ethernet" connection to configure IPv4 manually. The IP address is 10.0.1.10. The router shows 10.0.1.1. All the other fields are in there correctly I think. Is this controlling the router from Comcast? Do these numbers make sense?
    2. I went into Airport utility, the internet settings, and changed that IPv4 to manual as well. The IP address is 24.14.234.XX. The router address is 24.14.232.1. Is this controlling the Apple part of the router? Do these settings make sense?
    3. Under DHCP tab in airport utility, it has DHCP range of 10.0.1.2 as the beginning address and 10.0.1.200 as the ending address. Honestly, I thought my settings in # 1 and # 2 don't make sense with this from what I've read on the internet. Thoughts?
I can connect to the internet right now but I feel like I've done this wrong and that it is sluggish.
    Any advice?
    Thanks.

    2. I went into Airport utility, the internet settings, and changed that IPv4 to manual as well. The IP address is 24.14.234.XX. The router address is 24.14.232.1. Is this controlling the Apple part of the router? Do these settings make sense?
That is the public IP address that your ISP is giving you.
    3. Under DHCP tab in airport utility, it has DHCP range of 10.0.1.2 as the beginning address and 10.0.1.200 as the ending address. Honestly, I thought my settings in # 1 and # 2 don't make sense with this from what I've read on the internet. Thoughts?
That means that the DHCP server running on the Time Capsule is giving out IP addresses from 10.0.1.2 to 10.0.1.200.
    1. Went into system preferences/network, and modified the "ethernet" connection to configure IPv4 manually. The IP address is 10.0.1.10. The router shows 10.0.1.1. All the other fields are in there correctly I think. Is this controlling the router from Comcast? Do these numbers make sense?
This is the private IP address provided by the Time Capsule. If you want to configure your computer to have a static IP address, you should configure it to use an address from 10.0.1.201 to 10.0.1.254. The router should be set to 10.0.1.1 which is the LAN side IP address of the Time Capsule. The Subnet mask should be set to 255.255.255.0 and the DNS can be set to 10.0.1.1.

  • Challenging Task - Two Domains - Two Office 365 Service

    Hi All,
We have a challenging task ahead of us at my small company and we are trying to figure out the best way to do things.
A quick summary of the situatoin
We are ABC.COM and we sit in XYZ.COM's building with their own infrastructure.  We log into their domain, etc.
We currently use abc.com's Office 365 Services with just a different smtp address set per account.
5 out of the 20 people who work for ABC.COM use XYZ.COM as their primary SMTP address. (this is required for business purposes since it is our parent company and they leverage their powerful name).
We are isolating ABC.COM and building a whole new virtual/cloud infrastructure and signing up for their own Office 365 Service.
    Our Challenge:
5 of the 20 still need to send and receive as XYZ.COM but we want them to log into our newly created Domain / Virtual Environment and also still access XYZ.COM's Intranet Site (for benefits, forms, since its our parent company).
How would we go about doing this cleanly?
We have some general ideas but we've been thinking of situations that may cause problems like Account Lockouts for those 5 individuals or passwords expiring on XYZ.COM (there is no way we can set ourselves to never expire).
I really hope this is clear and we're just looking to do this correctly.
Now, we have different opinions on how this should be done but I'm curious if anyone has come across this before and what they have done successfully.  We can't afford to do this and then find major issues down the line.
    Thanks,
    Patrick

  • How do I connect an Airport Extreme to my ISP with a static IP address?

I have 5 static IP addresses from my ISP. The cable modem has five ethernet jacks. I run an ethernet cable from separate jacks on th cable modem to the devices listed next. I have one static IP address assigned to a Linksys wireless router for a MS network. Another is used by my VoIP router. I want to use a third static IP address for my Airport Extreme and set up a new network for a server running Leopard Server, iMacs, latptops. When I enter a static IP address in the Airport Extreme, I can't connect to the internet. Can anybody help?

When you configured your Airport Extreme with one of the five static (and public) IP addresses available to you - did you remember to also configure the Airport Extreme with your ISP's router (or "gateway") IP address as well as the IP address(es) of your ISP's domain name servers?

  • Broadband connection with one static ip

    Hello Everyone!!
I would like to seek your kind suggestion in mapping static ip address to the local ip address.
We have a bsnl broadband connection, and bsnl has provided us with one static ip address.
    We are using  broadband modem.
Now I would liket to map this static ip address to one of the private ip address which is 192.168.1.2(database server).
i want to do nat above ips if i do so then i dont have no ip to assign to my outside interface.
I would like to access this device over internet, by typing my public (Static ip ) given by the BSNL.
Kindly let me know how should i configure this modem.
security device i have is cisco ASA 5505.
    Need suggestion.
    thanks in advance

    Hi,
I am afraid that if you are asking for guide to configuring your broadband modem then this is probably not the best section of the Cisco Support Community to do that.
Generall though it would be best if the modem you have was configured as Bridged device and the public IP address was configured on the ASA5505 directly on its "outside" interface. This saves you from a lot of trouble playing with possible NAT configurations on 2 devices.
On the ASA5505 you will basicly be configuring Static PAT and NOT Static NAT.
Static NAT would bind the public IP address to the use of only single internal host.
Static PAT on the other hand would bind certain TCP/UDP ports to some internal host.
So naturally we should first determine which ports you need to forward to the internal host and also what the software level of your ASA5505 is so we know which NAT configuration format to use (version number is shown with the command "show version" or in the  main view of the ASDM)
NAT/ACL 8.2 (and older) Configuration format
    static (inside,outside) tcp interface 80 192.168.1.2 80 netmask 255.255.255.255
access-list OUTSIDE-IN permit tcp any interface outside eq 80
    access-group OUTSIDE-IN in interface outside
In the above configuration we first use the "static" command to configure the Static PAT. The configuration basicly states that we want to forward the TCP/80 port using the "outside" "interface" IP address to the local IP address of 192.168.1.2 and local port of TCP/80.
Finally we make an ACL that allows TCP/80 traffic from anywhere and we attach the ACL to the "outside" interface with "access-group" command. If there is an existing ACL attached to the "outside" interface then you would naturally use that.
NAT/ACL 8.3 (and newer) Configuration Format
    object network SERVER-WWW
    host 192.168.1.2
nat (inside, outside) static interface service tcp 80 80
    access-list OUTSIDE-IN permit tcp any object SERVER-WWW eq 80
    access-group OUTSIDE-IN in interface outside
The above basicly does the same as the first example with the older ASA software. There are just noticiable changes in the NAT and ACL configuration formats.
    Hope this helps

  • Two servers- one ip address

i just got another server to add to my exsisting server running mac os x 10.4
what i want to know is how to tweak both servers so they can share the one public ip address i have. currently a router is keeping the orginal server as a DMZ host. how can i get the ip to share?!?

What kind of router do you have (make/model)?
Is it a simple NAT router with a DMZ "passthrough" to a specific LAN IP or what?
If this is your setup you can "divide" services between two or more servers by using portforwarding in the router, so a couple is served by one machine and others (different services) by another machine.
Beware a DMZ like this is forwarding "all other ports" to the LAN IP machine so you might want to enable a firewall in that machine only allowing the public services to be served (to Internet and LAN depending on setup).

Let me be clear that he is not sending out WINMAIL.DAT attachments to anyone. I have tested sending him RTF emails with a PDF attachment from an external address and he is receiving them just fine. We are running two Exchange 2013 servers in

    Hi
Did you try this article -
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/278061/en-us
If the above article did not help then you can try the following
    1) Create an external contact for sender email address from whom the email is sent to the affected user.
Run the below command for that sender external contact
    Set-MailContact "External Contact" -UseMapiRichTexFormat Never
Ask the user to send email once again to that affected recipient and see if it still occurs.
Most likely the latter should fix your problem.

  • How can two independent DirectAccess servers be set up safely in the same domain?

I've got a single-tier certificate authority running on a 2008 r2 domain controller with an expiring root certificate. I have a new 2012 r2 domain controller with a new single-tier certificate authority. I also have a DirectAccess server running on 2012
server (two NICs, NAT, IP-HTTPS only). I'd like to get a new DirectAccess server set up running server 2012 r2 using the new CA for the various DirectAccess server and client computer certs. I can get the new environment working and flip machines from
the existing implementation to the new implementation.
I was previously told by a tech working one of my Microsoft support tickets that two independent DirectAccess servers can't run in the same domain. However, I posted a related question
https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/projectserver/en-US/ab53a314-91ea-4d40-afd5-6b8f62698547/2012-directaccess-and-expiring-certificate-authority?forum=winserverNIS and got a response indicating that two independent DirectAccess servers can run
in the same domain. If I can carefully get a second server operational within the same domain, I can build a reg file to deploy to all machines prior to the cutover that will simulate the gpupdate for broken machines in the field, getting them connected so
the policy can be properly pulled from a DC. Would anyone else be willing to confirm or elaborate on operating two independent DirectAccess servers in the same domain? What are the gotchas?

    Hi,
Yes you can have 2 Da deployments in one domain.
I have done this a number of times for customer when upgrading from UAG DA to 2012.
Make sure you use different Group policies for the DA servers and Clients. make sure you target the client with only one GPO at a time. Also use different AD groups.
You then change the GPO assignment to the clients and they will flip when the client does a gp update. I have done this for a site that had over 5000 clients and we didn't have one call about it.
You can use DirectAccess Offline Domain Join for any broken machines.
