Two DVD drives showing in "My Computer" - Qosmio G20

Hi,
I have a G20 and for some reason Ive got two DVD drives showing in My Computer.
The first one is called `DVD-RAM Drive` and is known as the D: drive. If I put a DVD or CD in the drive, then it shows up on this icon.
But there is also a second one called `DVD Drive` and it is known as the E: Drive. It doesnt show up any discs that i put in the machine. If i double click on it, it just gives the usual error saying `please insert a disc in the drive`.
Can anyone explain the difference here and why I have this second drive?

On this way it is not easy to say what happen there. As far as I know some applications create a virtual drives and I dont know what for applications are preinstalled on your machine.
Other way you can go into drive properties (right mouse button) and click on Hardware tab. On this place you will be able to see the device type.

I have a Satellite P205D-S7802. The DVD drive shows as D: and the CD shows as C: Should both be D?
Neither works but the DVD was the last to do so.
If they should both be D: how do I change it?
My system is Vista 32 bit.

In my Computer you should see the HDD and CD /DVD drive.
Usually the HDD or the partition of the HDD is listed as C and the CD/DVD drive should be listed as D or other letter.
Everything depends on partition created on the HDD because every partition is assigned to an certain letter.
However, the letters can be changed in disk management of Windows OS.
Right click on My Computer -> manage -> disk management
Here you can change the letters.
Regarding the CD/DVD drive:
I recommend removing the CD/DVD drive from the device manager list.
Simple delete it and reboot the unit.
After new reboot, then OS should recognize the ODD again

DVD Drive not recognized by computer? Help!

Hi everybody,
please take time to read this. I have my laptop for 2 years right now, and it always worked fine. I use this disk of Roller Coaster Tycoon, because I'm still enjoying the game. The game requires the disk to stay inserted every time I want to play it.
All worked fine. Then, one year ago, the drive showed up but the Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 Platinum icon (which would replace the drive, since it's inserted)
DID NOT show up. I tried some things, and I got it fixed with deleting the 'Upperfilters' and 'Lowerfilters' in some place in the system. Rebooted and worked again like a charm.
But THEN, one week ago, the same thing happened. The panda icon was gone and I only saw the DVD station. I tried the SAME thing, but this time it did not work. Upperfilter was there, but after deleting, nothing was fixed. I really
need help, I tried several things but I think only you guys can help me out.
So I suggest that the problem is that the computer cannot recognize any disk I would insert. The disk works on other computers though. So it's definitely not the disk's problem.
Please, I really really need you guys' help.

Dvd not showing up on computer

I know this question isnt even about my ipod but i had to ask anyways. iv been trying to rip dvds onto my computer to put on my ipod but when i put the dvds into my comuter they dont show up? is this becasue i am an idiot and need a dvd drive?

Have you got a DVD drive?
Have you been able to playback DVDs before? If not, then you may very well need a DVD drive... not just a CD drive.
You'll be able to tell what you have by looking in 'My Computer' when there are no discs in the drives. The drives should show up as things like: 'CD-ROM Drive(D:)' or 'CD/DVD Drive(D:)'. If none of the drives have DVD in the title, you may just need a DVD drive.

DVD drive removed on Asus computer when updating itunes

I want to delete and, reinstall iTunes because I am getting a blank screen when trying to access the iTunes store. My DVD drive was deleted from my Asus PC before when doing an update to itunes. Anyone had this problem before. Happened a couple of years ago.

DVD Drive not recognized by Computer

Hi,
I rebooted my computer the other day and realized my DVD drive is not listed in the devices shown under "my computer". Under the device manager it has a yellow triangle with an exclamation point in it. The driver is current and loaded. I tried shutting down and restarting to no avail. Then... I uninstalled the device and now I can't find it anywhere. Can anyone help me with this please?

Problems with DVD drive showing up in BIOS

Hello everyone. I am just after getting my MSI 915P Combo mainboard. The problem is i have one DVD-RW drive which i used to load on the windows XP pro onto the computer. When i restarted the computer a message came up checking for new devices and that was fine it found the NEC ND-3540A DVD drive and said that it was a none raid device. So i went to the bios and turned off the raid settings. I then restarted again and checked the bios it didn't pick up the DVD drive and neither did windows XP. I have the DVD drive set to secondary master as i have a sata hard drive configured. Hopefully someone has some ideas

You need to connect your DVD on the blue one as the VIA RAID chip doesn't support CD-ROM or DVD and only HDD. If currently there is a HDD connected to IDE1 and set it as Master, you can set the DVD as slave, of course, it would be better to put the DVD to IDE1 as Master and put your PATA HDD to IDE2 or 3. If so, you need to install the VIA RAID driver when installing OS to the PATA HDD. During the installation, you should be able to see the message "Press F6 if you need to install third party SCSI or RAID driver", then prmptly press F6 to load driver. Before this, you need to copy the VIA RAID driver to a floppy disk.

HP external USB DVD Drive not recognized by computer.

Have HP Mini-210 and HP external USB DVD Drive. When attached, the DVD drive lights and spins but computor will not recognize it. When checking Device Manager, it says no driver for DVD drive.. I try to reinstall the driver, and then it says I have the best one already. Device Manager continues to indicate that this drive has a problem. Tried to download a driver from HP support and it was not available on line.
Copied install disk that came with drive thru dropbox cloud to move it onto the computor. Was able to install the programs but still have no driver and unable to use DVD drive.

T400, DVD Drive shows up as Safely Remove Hardware?

T400, Win 7 64bit. My DVD/CD Drive has an icon on the tray "safely remove hardware". Is this normal for DVD drives on these units?

How to attach two dvd drives to one input on X-

On my current Audigy 2 ZS there are two inputs to attach cd/dvd dri'ves to. A cd in and a aux.
On the new X-Fi cards there seems to only to be one of these. How can I attach both to the same card?
If I only attach the one to the dri've that I will be using as a player, how can I hear the sound on the dri've that is not?
Both of the dri'ves are IDE dri'ves. One from Toshiba, the other from NEC.

Only let these acti've: midi synth, play control, wave, and digital

DVD drive showing -70017 error

When I put a DVD into the drive it comes up with that error and won't let to disc play, my Internet is also not allowing me to scroll down the page and the battery life depletes quickly

Two DVD drives region settings

It seems to me, that it isn't the PLAYER that gets locked, but the DVD player software. I have an iMac with both an internal and external DVD burner. I cannot seem to set one to Region 2 and have the other on Region 1.
Now THIS seems a bit different than the theories I've seen in some of the threads here.

Paul the region settings are in fact tied to the Software, and Firmware on the DVD Optical Drive. They have nothing whatsoever to do with the Player by itself.
When you insert a DVD, the Optical drive reads the media type and at that point cripples the proccess if all 5 changes have been used.
The only work around with the Internal is to either search out a Region Free Firmware fix on Google.

Download VLC Player that comes with it's own software that is Region Free and make it your default Application when your insert a DVD, thus bypassing the Internal to the new player and using it's software.

Unless the internal hard drive has become physically unplugged, it needs to be replaced, and any data on it can only be recovered by a professional service.

I have a the new Macbook pro, when I connect my Liteon USB DVD drive it does not show up my Macbook pro. The only DVD drive showing up is the one on my Macbook pro. How do I make the 2nd DVD drive show up. I just need to 2nd drive to tranfers data from dvd to the external drive.

Hi, ipodtrip1. Nothing will appear on your MBP's desktop unless there is a disc in the drive. Does a disc in the drive not appear either?
If not, does System Profiler detect the drive as a connected device?
If you have another USB device you can connect to your computer, disconnect the optical drive and connect the other device. Does System Profiler detect that device?
If not, reset the System Management Controller, and see whether doing so reactivates your USB port.

DVD drive doesnt show on my Satellite Pro A300

Hello,
I have just taken delivery of a Toshiba Satellite A300 running Vista Home Premium. I cant find the DVD drive when I goto Computer and likewise I cannot access the disk drive for loading software, DVD etc.
When I first got the machine the DVD drive was operating just fine, however after trying to load Pinnacle TV tuner and SimCity4 it has stopped working and no longer shows in my computer.
Any help would be appreciated
