Two Ethernet Devices One Airport Express?

I need to connect a non-wireless printer and DirectTV box to my wireless network as they are not located close enough to the router to connect via Ethernet.
I currently have my printer connected to my Airport Express via Ethernet, and have also been able to connect my DTV box this way as well. However, currently I can't connect both at the same time.
Is there a way to connect both at the same time? Some kind of mini-router that plugs into the Airport Express?

I have an old hub, I think the 10/100 type. That should be more than enough for printing, but probably not for the DTV box?
DTV is still using a 100 Mbps Ethernet port as far as I know, so the old hub should work OK. If you buy a new switch, it would be a good idea to spend a few more dollars and get a Gigabit Ethernet switch. it's 10/100/1000 capable.
The USB port on the AirPort will probably work...if you want to go through the hassle of setting up the printer.
If Ethernet is working well now, I would leave well enough alone.  The USB port will only allow for printing....not advanced features like maintenance, scan, copy etc if you have an all-in-one type device.

  • Connnecting two wired devices to airport express

I am currently using an airport express to connect a stereo and a Tivo box. Its configured as a remote base station.
Can I hook another device (a stereo RX with networking caps.) using a switch or hub?
Or do I HAVE to use a wired router?
Looks like wireless ethernet ports are kinda pricey (Not sure why Yamaha did not provide for a USB wireless adaptor on their $1700 RX.)

    Yes that should work.

  • Two printers linked to one airport express

we link one HP printer to our airport express and everything is good. We now have one extra HP laser printer and is it possible to hook up two printers to one airport express?
Could we just buy an USB hub and plug both printers in and is it going to work in this case?
    Thanks!!!

No it only supports a single compatible USB printer.

  • One Airport Express, Two Computers

My wife has her own Macbook, and I have my own iMac. We have separate itunes accounts, with home sharing enabled. I have only one Airport Express and it is synced with my iMac. My question is: Can I sync that same Airport Express with my wife's macbook?

yes, both machines can connect to the network your express creates.

  • Controlling 2 different iPad apps (digital mixer and DMX lights) using one airport express

    Hi,
I'm using an AIRPort Express 802.11n for my digital mixer MACKIE DL1608 which is controlled by my iPad ie. iPad (app is Masterfader) talks to airport express, from LAN out to ethernet to mixer.  My question is: can i use the one airport express to also run another device by using some kind of double LAN out adapter?  I also want the same iPad to controll my DMX lights ie. iPad (app is Luminair) talks to airport express that connects from LAN out to ethernet to lights controller.
Otherwise if I need to get two seperate airport expresses, are there any complications with having them sitting close to one another (as I will operate them from the same carry case)?
    Thanks in anticipation

A small ethernet hub or switch should be able to handle that.

  • 5.2 update does not send audio from video played via Apple TV to AirPlay-enabled speakers and devices or AirPort Express.

I just updated my Apple TV to release 5.2, which is supposed to give Apple TV the ability to "Send stereo audio from movies, TV shows, and other videos on Apple TV to AirPlay-enabled speakers and devices (including AirPort Express and other Apple TVs)." Problem is, this does not seem to be the case.
I have two AirPlay enabled devices:
    1) Bose SoundLink Air
    2) AirPort Express
In the Apple TV menu, I selected Settings, AirPlay, Bose SoundLink Air. I then played a video; the audio from the video played from my projector's speakers - not from the Bose speaker. I then went back to Apple TV's Settings/AirPlay and selected "Airport Express" (which connected via an aux cable to a speaker)...audio continued to play over my projector's speaker. I can, by the way, play audio on both the Bose and the speaker connected to the Airport Express if I select either of them from the AirPlay menu.
Am I doing something wrong, or is the 5.2 update not working as described?

No. But, are your speakers only connected to the AE or are they also connected to an amplifier?
You would need to use a Toslink cable to go from the Apple TV to the speakers/amp.
I don't use this or know a lot about it, but it is wildly popular, inexpensive and may be of help:

  • Only one Airport Express will work at any given time

    Hi,
I use one Airport Express to connect to the internet and another to stream iTunes to my Stereo.
I can only get one to work at any given time!
If I use Airport SetUp Assistant to reconfigure the one that isn't working, it starts and the other stops.
I can only ever see the current one in Airport Admin Utility.
Airport SetUp Assistant shows me two.
    What's up?
    Best regards,

  • Can i use more than one airport express to extend the airport extreme?

my house is too big, and i use one airport express to extend my network, but the other half of the house doesnt get access to the internet. The question is can i use another airport express, without any complications?

Yes, up to 255 if I remember correctly. But before you do that take a look at the products offered by QuickerTek to amplify the output power of a router and/or add gain antennae to help increase the router's range without the need for adding access points.

  • How do I extend a wireless network from one Airport Express to another?

I have an Airport Express in my living room, wired into my router and it's currently outputting a wifi signal.
I just got another Airport Express, and I've plugged it into my kitchen.
How do I use Airport Extreme Admin Utility to see the other Airport Express (which currently has a solid orange light), and label it as "Kitchen", so that I can have music playing in my kitchen as well?
I really don't want to have to wire an Ethernet cable all the way to the kitchen so that it picks it up, because I don't have room for that sort of hook up on my router.
Is this possible.. and if so.. could someone kindly, please, write me a step by step tutorial as to how to add my "kitchen" to the wireless network.
    Thank you.

Try temporarily connecting via Ethernet to the AirPort Express (AX). After you configure the AX you can disconnect the Ethernet connection.

  • An error occurred while connecting to the AirPlay device "Stereo Airport Express G". The network connection failed.

When attempting to play iTunes 11.1.2 music wirelessly from my Mac Mini to stereo speakers connected to an AE "G" I get the following message: An error occurred while connecting to the AirPlay device “Stereo Airport Express G”.   However, when I attempt to play internet radio from an iPod Touch wirelessly to the same speakers connected to the same AE "G", it works fine.
Finally, when I swap out the "G" for an AE "N" connected to the same speakers Airplay works fine, both from the Mini and the iPod.
Why would the iPod connection work while the Mini connection not?

I have what sounds like a very similar issue.
I had my Denon 3312ci working perfectly with Airplay from my 2013 iMac running iTunes. Upgraded to iTunes 11.1.3, and now when I attempt to Airplay direct from iTunes to the 3312, it plays for about half a second and then stops. Displayed on the Amp then says "Assigning Network". The amp starts dropping ping packets at this point. About 15-20 seconds later the pings start coming back, but no Airplay.
I tried different network cables, resetting the microprocessor, a different switch, changing between DHCP and static IP. Was about to make a warranty call to Denon, when I thought maybe I should try Airplaying directly from iphone and ipad. Much to my surprise, it worked from those devices.
I prefer to use my iMac to Airplay rather than ipad/iphone as I found I got next to no audio drop outs using it that way (they are both using wired network), where as ipad/iphone occasionally would get a moment of silence in the middle of a song.
My network set up is fine. I can use internet radio and connect to DLNA services fine on the amp. It is just airplay between iTunes 11.1.3 and the amp where the issue lies.
No fixes as yet, but I have logged a support call with Denon Australia to see what they say.

  • Is it possible to extend the range of one airport express with a second airport express?

    Hi,
We have a Time Warner router and have it hardwired to an Airport Express. Is it possible to extend the range of that one airport express with a second airport express?

... The new AirPort Express that I have is an 802.11n version, but the second one is an older model and I don't know which version it might be. Also, the system recently updated so I'm using the AirPort Utility 6.1.
If you are using Mountain Lion, AirPort Utility 6.1 is the version installed by default. It will not be able to administer "older" AirPort base stations.
For them, use AirPort Utility 5.6 which contains the features you need. It can administer your older Express as well as current production base stations.
AU 5.6 is compatible with Lion as well as Mountain Lion, however, the installer app will refuse to install it on Mountain Lion.
This dilemma is easily solved though. You simply need to extract the app from the installer package using a package extractor like Pacifist.
    Download Pacifist here: http://www.charlessoft.com/
Download AirPort Utility 5.6 here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
If you happen to have an archived copy of the AU 5.6 app somewhere, such as a Time Machine backup or equivalent, you can simply restore it or drag the app to your Mountain Lion system's Utilities folder. It will run without complaint. It is only the package installer that is the problem.
Mountain Lion will not allow you to delete its existing version of AirPort Utility. Just ignore it. It and the older version (which will bear the unique name "AirPort Utility 5.6") can peacefully coexist.
Note: For those with Leopard or Snow Leopard systems you need AirPort Utility 5.6.1 (this is confusing - a later AirPort Utility version for an earlier OS X version - but it is correct).
Download AirPort Utility 5.6.1 here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1536

  • Transmitting to more than one airport express from iTunes

Are there any plans to update the system so that iTunes can transmit to more than one AirPort Express or An airport Express and the computer at the same time?

paulcart, Welcome to the discussion area!
For quite some time, the ability to stream iTunes to multiple AirPort Express (AX) has worked.
Are there any plans to update the system so that iTunes can transmit to ... An airport Express and the computer at the same time?
We are all users like yourself and therefore have no special knowledge of upcoming changes. As you know from reading the "Help & Terms of Use" for this area, speculation on future Apple products or services is not allowed.

  • One Printer - two wireless routers, and one Airport Express

    Hi all,
I'll do my best to describe this convoluted situation in detail, please feel free to ask questions—I need all the help I can get.
I am in an office with 5 Macs (some with wireless capabilities: my Intel iMac, a Mac mini, an eMac with a wireless card, and a new iMac running OSx 10.5) and one eMac with no wireless capabilities.
We're all connected to an Actiontec router. The one eMac is hard-wired via ethernet to the router and the rest of us receive the signal wirelessly through an 2' thick concrete wall that makes for a slow connection. Our printer, an OKIdata C3200N, is also hard-wired via Ethernet to the router, which allows us wireless Macs to print on a crappy, slow connection.
I got fed up with the slowness and brought in an Airport Express, which is now also hard-wired to the ethernet port and seamlessly and easily connects all the wireless-capable Macs to the internet. It's a joy. However, whenever we wanted to print, we had to switch to the slower Actiontec network b/c the printer was not connected to the Aiport Express.
I figured I could remedy this by plugging a USB printer cable from the printer to the AX and all the wireless Macs would automatically find the printer through Bonjour. It seemed like a good plan; though I was worried that the printer would be confused by having both the Ethernet connection AND the AX connection (this could be the case).
Now, I have been able to be on the AX network, find the printer via Bonjour (with Printer Sharing turned on). However, when I print to it (or any of the other Macs in the office try to print to it) a variety of errors happens:
...the printer jobs are paused and will not resume (this happens on the iMac running OSX 10.5)
...the print queue spools and says "waiting to complete job"
Do I need to configure something through the Airport Admin Utility? Is this a lost cause because the printer is connected two ways to our computers? Is there any hope for printing on the AX connection?
Thanks in advance for your input.

Thank you so much Duane. Can you clarify what you mean by:
I would recommend returning the printer connection to the original configuration.
Thanks! I'll look up the other stuff about AX as a bridge (now to remember that AX admin password....)
    Thanks!
