Two Exchange accounts mysteriously assigned to same OST file

I have a challenge that I have been fighting for about a year.  We have users that have exchange mailboxes on two different exchange servers (not on the same network, in two completely different locations).
For the sake of example, lets call the user Mary and her email addresses are [email protected] and [email protected].
I can configure the first mailbox just fine.   The problem begins when I add the 2nd mailbox.  Using cached exchange, the first account creates an OST file called "[email protected]" in the normal, default location.
Once I add the 2nd exchange account, the accounts box shows that the 2nd account is also using the same ost file as the first account.  In other words, the "Selected account delivers new messages to the following location:" is the SAME
for both accounts!
When I launch Outlook, the splash screen shows it's setting up the mailbox for the first time, but once it comes up, there is only one mailbox listed, the first one.  I have tried about a hundred different ways of setting this up, and get various
results.  Sometimes I will get both mailboxes in Outlook, but the 2nd mailbox contains the same items as the first.  In other words, it says it's [email protected], but the contents is actually from [email protected].  Other times, I get the "Temporary
mailbox -- your mailbox has moved" dialog box on startup.
I've tried going into the 2nd account and manually changing the cache mode OST file to a new file, but I wind up with a blank mailbox in Outlook with no folders and it never updates.  The same thing happens whether I use Outlook Anywhere or
not.  I should also note that we have a VPN between two server networks so that server names are accessible without Outlook Anywhere.
This does not just affect "Mary".  It happens for any user that has a mailbox on domain1 and domain2.  I have gotten around the issue in the past by changing the account name for the user on one of the servers, changing the username
"Mary" to "MSmith", for example.  But lately, changing the username on the server for the users doesn't always work.
I want to also add that when I have managed to get the "accounts" box to correctly show the correct OST files for each account (after adding the 2nd account but before launching Outlook), once I launch Outlook and see that there is only
one mailbox displayed, I look in the accounts box again and see the 2nd account OST file is the same as the first.
There seems to be something about these two accounts that is confusing Outlook.  HELP!
Thanks.

Hi,
Please disable using Exchange Cached mode in Outlook and start Outlook in Online mode to check whether the second mailbox is shown there.
I suggest we can configure two Exchange accounts in two Outlook profiles respectively. Then check whether the email goes to one mailbox or not.

I had tried that before, but wasn't sure of the outcome, so I just tried it again.  I added the second exchange account to the profile, unchecked the Cached Exchange mode, and started Outlook.  Both email addresses show up as "branches"
in Outlook, but they have the same content.  The top one is correct, and the 2nd one says it's the email address of the 2nd account, but all the folders are copies of the first account.  I quit Outlook and go back into account settings and look and
even though cached exchange mode is still turned off, it shows that messages are delivered to the OST file used in the first account.  Weird...
Keep in mind, it's not just this one user or computer.  So it's not about needing to reinstall Outlook, etc.  I think, somehow, it has to do with the username being the same in both Exchange accounts, but I can't pinpoint that being the cause.

  • Signing, encrypting in Outlook 2010 with two Exchange accounts in profile

    Hi all!
I have two Exchange accounts aimed at two different servers in my profile. In Outlook 2011 for Mac this works as advertised, but in Outlook 2010 for Windows Outlook is never able to distinguish between the two certificates and e-mail addresses. It will always
use the last added certificate, regardless of auto select, default select or manual select.
I have two different named security settings in trust center, each with the correct certificate for the e-mail address. I have seen people do this with Outlook 2013 but I have failed with 2010.
In another thread here it is stated that the signing setting (and encryption setting) is profile specific. That is fine by me as I want to sign from both accounts, but from what I understand, if you have two named security settings Outlook should choose the
right one based on the e-mail address. That does not work...
    Any ideas?
    All the best,

    Hi,
If we have multiple accounts in a profile then it has to be manual process to add the certificate when sending emails. There is no automated way.
You can turn off e-mail address matching for certificates by editing your registry, try if this can help in this issue:

  • Two Exchange Accounts

    Hi all,
I wonderd if anyone can tell me if you can set up two Exchange accounts on the new IPhone 3GS
    Jon

It certainly isn't a limitation of the licensed ActiveSync to only allow one active Exchange account.
Both Google and Palm have licensed ActiveSync normally, and permit as many Exchange accounts (with full push email, calendar, and contact integration for each) on their Android 2.0+ and WebOS devices respectively.
So I am curious why Apple doesn't allow a second, or additional, Exchange accounts on the iPhone OS. Hopefully a featuring coming in OS 3.2 or OS 4.0.

  • Two exchange accounts on e71x???

    Hello,
My client created an email account for me that I'd like to access from my phone. I already have my own company account set up through Mail for Exchange. I tried setting up the client account through XpressMail Professional but no luck. AT&T said it was not possible on the e71x and that I should consider a BlackBerry. I also tried going through Nokia messaging without success.
Is anyone accessing two separate Exchange accounts from the e71x?  I'd appreciate any comments/ideas you have.
    Thanks

...So on one I am using [email protected], and the other is [email protected]
About a week ago, someone asked the same question.  You can have multiple Exchange accounts with iOS4, but must be to different servers.  More specifically, different domains.  I'm guessing that you can't have two connection sessions with different credentials.  (Windows typically doesn't allow this.)
For the "shared" account, you could probably use some alternate method.  If not IMAP, then send mail to a Sharepoint list, which would then be accessible in a web browser.  The accounting department at my office has all mail going to an Exchange public folder.  Everyone in the accounting department can view the messages and move/delete them as necessary.  They're doing that in Outlook instead of an iPad.  Since the iPad can't normally access public folders, you could access them via web browser (if enabled in Exchange) or find an app.  There are a few iPhone apps but they look like they're not optimized for iPad.

  • Sync contacts between two exchange accounts

I have one Exchange account to Lotus Notes and one to Gmail.
I would like two sync the two contact lists, to make sure all contacts are available if I log in to Lotus Notes on my computer or Gmail on a computer. Is it possible to make these sync to the same contact group on my Iphone?
Now all contacts are available on the phone, but they are not synced to each other.

Thanks. You said: "When you setup iCloud the On my Mac contacts should've been moved to iCloud I think (can't remember what happened in my case)."
Actually that does not happen, or at least it didn't happen to me.

  • Dealing with two email accounts that use the same SMTP (outgoing) server

    Folks:
re:   mail.app  5.2 (MacOS 10.7.4) with respect to POP accounts only
I've read this thread multiple times, spent many hours experimenting, and my web searches haven't come up with any more useful help.
How do you persuade mail.app to accept settings for two similar, but distinct email accounts that use the same SMTP (outgoing) server?   Say, the accounts are "blue.example.com" and "[email protected]". These have different user names and passwords.   The SMTP server is "smtp.example.com".
I think this is the appearance of success: the SMTP Server List (as seen in edit-the SMTP-Server-List mode) shows:
Server Name                   In Use By Account
        smtp.example.com      [email protected], [email protected]
(Description column omitted for brevity.  And of course, mail.app doesn't show the little envelope icons.)
But I cannot reliably achieve this result.   When I select the SMTP server from the list for the second account --as suggested in the above-referenced thread--- I see the credentials (user name and password) for the first.  Should I overwrite them?  No, I don't think so -- I think that will break the first account.   I feel mail.app should present me with empty credentials boxes instead.  Maybe this happens -- sometimes.  But I can't see how to make it happen.  Am I simply overlooking something?
A slightly different way of asking about this issue:   Suppose  I manage to do a proper setup for the two accounts and they work.  Then I change the password for "[email protected]" on the server. What is a reliable way of reaching the SMTP credentials for that account to make the edit?  Same question for "[email protected]"?    Even when I successfully attach two accounts to one SMTP server, I seem only able to reach the first listed one to make changes. (In this case, "blue.example.com").
It is possible I'm missing something incredibly obvious...    I know the credentials for each account are distinct, but maybe mail.app copies them from the POP (incoming) settings.   Nah, that can't be, can it?   Or what?
Maybe I'm seeing bizarre things due to scrambled mail.app preferences.  I've seen it before on other apps: delete the current preference file, get an auto-generated fresh one, and sanity returns. But with mail.app, with the prospect of losing years of emails --yeah, I've done it--  I'm extremely reluctant to mess around.
    Suggestions, please.
    TIA
Message was edited by: Hen3ry  to clean up the table a little and add a parenthetical explanation.

OK, I'm convinced.   The mail.app UI is BROKEN -- in my primary user account.  Such that it cannot reliably select an outgoing server for editing.
I created a new user account and installed some relevant example accounts in mail.app in that account.  No problem. Well, a bit obscure, but still fully logical and reliable selection of individual SMTP accounts for editing.
For the sake of clarity, I think it is best to mark this "answered" and repost, focusing on the symptoms and asking how one might go about repairing the problem.  So I'll do that.

  • Cannot manage Distribution group membership when two exchange accounts are configured in outlook.

    Hi,
I am using outlook 2013 and my exchange server is 2013 too.
I have a distribution group named "[email protected]" and my user "[email protected]" is moderator of this DL and i was able to add/remove members from this.
Now, I own one more exchange account as "[email protected]" and i configured the same in outlook 2013 as an exchange account and what i see is i am unable to edit the DL  "[email protected]"
My default account in outlook is "[email protected]" still i cant edit the DL. As i delete the account "[email protected]" from outlook or configures it ([email protected]) as an IMAP i am able to moderate "[email protected]".
    Any Clue ???
Error message :- "Changes to the distribution list membership cannot be saved. You do not have sufficient permission to perform this operation on this object."
My Exchange server 2013 and outlook both are having latest updates installed. Thanks.

I have configured second account as Exchange only in the same Outlook profile. I don't want to switch my profiles to operate the either the accounts.
Both the accounts are different and don't have any relevancy to each other. "[email protected]" and "[email protected]"
What i suppose is, "[email protected]" is having permissions on the DL  "[email protected]"
but "[email protected]" dosent have it. So when i edit "[email protected]" outlook is
using "[email protected]" to edit it and not "[email protected]"

  • Mail with two exchange accounts

    Hi,
I am using 2 exchange accounts in mail on Lion and on my iDevices.
Since I added the second one I got strange reactions.
On mail I see all accounts but mails from the second one does not appears. If I remove the second account from my iPhone then it appears in mail but the first account does not show new mails (but on the iPhone yes).
I probably missparametered something but what?

    Others at the same issues.
Here is the thread I was referring to. Hopefully you may find some solutions inside.

  • Snow leopard/ two exchange accounts

Well. I got snow leopard. I set up 2 exchange accounts on Mac Mail. I asked it to sync both calendar and contacts and it did. So I have 2 email accounts on my mac mail. One of which I plan to use only for company contacts and company calendar.
On my iCal I can see both the account calendars as well as my personal one. When I sync my iphone all these calendars got synced to my iphone.
On my Address book I see both the account contact lists. But when I sync my iphone I dont get both the contact lists. I only get only contact list my personal one.
    What am I missing?

how did you set up 2 exchange accounts in Mail.app?
AFAIK, you cannot set up 2 exchange accounts in 1 email program. i don't know if this has been changed with Exchange 2007 but in all other instances of Exchange, you're only allowed 1 account to be set up in any email program.
i work in my company's IT dept and we're an all mac based shop. we have an email server that basically emulates exchange (but not 2007) and it is impossible to set up 2 exchange accounts in 1 email program. we are not using 10.6 but are on 10.5. we tried this in Entourage and Mail.app.
i also know you can only have 1 exchange account set up on an iphone.
perhaps this is why only 1 account is being synched on your iphone?
not too sure, but this is my best guess.

  • Can two different account work on the same project?

I work for a non-profit organization and we are think about switching platform for our website, we are looking in to Muse, our graphic designer already have a Adobe Muse account and we would like to get an other account for the organization, will it be possible for both our account to work on the same project? With an account we can only have two computer with Muse and there will be 3 working on the website.

    Hi Alexandre,
At any given point not more than one person can work on a .muse file. Muse is not yet designed for a workflow like this. You can update the .muse file using three different accounts as long as the file is not opened at more than one end at the same time and the file needs to be shared manually in between the accounts once one person is done working on it.

  • One computer, but two user-accounts active, at the same time, in 10.6?

I'm contemplating this setup: A current generation MacPro (running SL), with two monitors. Can I have two separate user-accounts (the Admin account and one additional user-account) active and running simultaneously from the MacPro, but, of course, displayed separately to the monitor corresponding with that user-account?
    Thank you!

you can have two accounts logged in at the same time via fast user switching but there is no way to display them at the same time on different monitors.

  • Two iPhones, can i have two icloud accounts when i use same iTunes for both? i have no storage on my first icloud

I have two iPhones, a 4 and i just bought the 5. my iCloud storage of the 4 is full and i have the biggest storage. now i want to back up my new iphone 5 in the same icloud of the 4. i have no space. can i set up a new account even if i share laptops?

Yes.  You can share the same ID for iTunes and create separate iCloud accounts with separate IDs.  If fact, that't the recommended approach for families.
You should also use separate IDs for iMessage and FaceTime to avoid getting each other's text messages and FaceTime calls.  Just use the same IDs you use for your iCloud accounts.  If you're sharing the same ID now for these services, one of you should go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with a separate ID.  Then do the same thing in Settings>FaceTime.

  • How to setup multiple Exchange accounts in Mail with the same username/password

Okay didn't see a place to ask a Mail question so I am placing this here.
I work for a helpdesk that requires me to monitor 4 different email accounts throughout the day. They are all Exchange accounts. The first one setups just fine but when I go to setup the others I get a message that states that the username and password are in use for the other account. Is there any way to setup multiple Exchange account when using the same LDAP creds for all the accounts?

    Csound1,
I need to add a second Exchange account to my MBP using Mail.  Both accounts are with Rackspace, but each email address is unique (i.e., two different domain names).  When I use Preferences to attempt to add the second account, it recognizes the new credentials, finds the server and autopopulates the necessary address information.  But, as soon as I click "Done" after setting which functions are active on the account (mail, cal, contacts, etc.), the screen shows only my original Exchange account.  The new one is not added, yet there is no error message saying that it can't be added.  Any idea what is going on?  Shouldn't Mail be able to have multiple Exchange accounts, even if they are hosted via the same Rackspace server (in this case: connect.emailsrvr.com)?
    Many thanks,

  • Can we share apps on two ipads using two different accounts on the same computer?

I just got and iPad 2 and am giving my wife my old iPad. She has a separate itune account for her ipod. Can we share apps on the two iPads with two different accounts running on the same computer?

    Dear Dah,
I now have two iPads, which I also (need to) have separate AppleID's for. I understand I can share apps between them if I authorize iTunes on my iMac with both ID's, but I am not quite sure about the correct way to do that. I already have the iMac authorized for AppleID#1. If I go into iTunes and click on Store/Authorize this Computer... and enter my AppleID#2 information into Account name and Password boxes, does this authorize my iMac's iTunes for BOTH ID's or does it just change the authorization from ID#1 to ID#2?
If the former is correct, I understand the way to proceed is to xync up both iPads to iTunes and then I can drag and drop apps from one iPad's library listings to the other, right?
If this is not the correct way to get dual authorizations, what is?
    Thanks!
