Two files built in Photoshop identical color; placed in Illustrator look different

Here is my situation: I'm working on a set of labels. We are adding a new product to the line, so there are existing labels. So for the new label, I started from one of the already existing labels in Photoshop. I made the necessary changes and saved it out as an eps. It looks identical in color to the other .eps files. Next I opened an illustrator file of one of the existing labels where I have a placed an eps file and then the text done in illustrator. When I replace the existing eps file with the new eps file, the color shifts slightly.
I don't understand why. One photoshop file is built off an existing one. They look the same in Photoshop. Place it in illustrator...different. I haven't changed anything.
The only the thing that has changed is the older file was built in CS3 and the new one is in CS5. Would that matter? How can I fix this?
Thanks very much.

In Photoshop >>edit >> assign Profile >> and choose the color profile you were working with in CS3. If you do not know which profile you were working with assign US Web Coated SWOP 2 to both files.

  • Cut out a photo in Photoshop, and when placing into Illustrator and InDesign it changes it.

We have photos that another employee cut out in photoshop, saved as a TIFF and tried to place into Illustrator. When he went to place it, the photo looks like it created a clipping mask but the image is flat.
this is what the tiff looks like in preview and photoshop.
and this is how it shows up when placed in Illustrator. It does the same thing in indesign.
I also tried saving it as a pdf and opening it in Acrobat, and it turns into the butterfly there as well. Does anyone have any clue as to what the problem would be?

    Solution found:
The problem originated in photoshop. In the Paths panel, somehow a path of the butterfly was created(still haven't figured out how) and we deleted the path and the problem was fixed.

  • Colors in PDF preview look different from ai file.

    Hello,
I am having a little trouble with the pdf I created in Illustrator. See images below for explanation. It's only happening to certain text. Can someone explain what is happening, how can it be fixed, and how to prevent it from happening again?
    Thank you in advance!
I get this as thumbnail image on my desktop and in Finder, when I click space bar to quick view, and when its preview as an attachment in an email.
This is how it's supposed to look. This only happens when the PDF is actually opened..it goes from the above img to this.

Not quite sure, but it's a high possibilty I am using spot colors. I pulled the color from the panetone swatch. Is there a way to turn that off? No, "INVOICE" isn't placed twice. Im currently trying to research this on the net.
    thanks for responding.

  • Why do 'regular' colors (0 to 1) look different in 32 bit mode?

I know the 32bit mode offers the ability to work with colors beyond the 0 to 1 limit.
What I don't understand is why 'normal' colors appear brighter in 32bit mode.
A gradient from 0 to 1 looks quite different in 16bit mode than it does in 32bit.
I've messed around with the preview settings but am unable to match the appearence of the 16 bit mode.
    Thanks.

Because you're working with different gamma factors.
Most integer formats (8 and 16 bit) are using gamma 2.2 (mid-gray is near 128).  This is close to human perception, and makes best use of the available bits.
Floating point formats (32 bit) are using gamma 1.0 (mid-gray is near 0.18).  This means the image is close to how light works, and makes it more accurate for some effects and calculations.

  • Color Looks Different in Aperture Viewer Compared to Full Screen

The color in my photos looks different depending on how I view them. In Aperture's Viewer and in Photoshop Elements 6, it looks what I consider to be normal. In Aperture's Full Screen view, and in other applications such as Preview and Safari, the colors look super-saturated: much more vibrant than in real life.
The photos were imported into Aperture as JPEGs, directly from my camera. Previews are turned off in Aperture, and I have it set to export using sRGB. I'm using an external Dell display that's been calibrated with Spyder2 Express. Turning on Onscreen Proofing in Aperture (and trying different profiles) doesn't seem to change the display in the Viewer at all.
How can I make the color in the Viewer match the color in other applications? It's hard to edit when I can't accurately see what I'm doing.

Thanks for the quick and helpful reply! I didn't know there was such a thing as a default display, but after setting that to the external the photos look good again.
I guess I wasn't using the right search terms, but after reading your reply I was able to find this huge thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1394928&start=0&tstart=0
It seems to me that this is an OS bug, because the images were displaying incorrectly in Preview, Safari, etc. Each display has been calibrated and has a ColorSync profile, and the OS knows which display the window is on, so it should be able to figure out which profile to use.

  • Color differences between these two files?

Could someone please tell me the color differences between these two files? What are the differences in general of these two files and how do I make a file identical to the blue cancel button?
I am working with signature pads and the BLUE CANCEL image works, but the other GREEN image does not. Both are 8-bit .bmp files... HELP!

#1, obviously, would be to connect a mic that doesn't require phantom power.
And #2 comes with a 6 ft. USB cable, so you may not need a bunch more cables. Maybe just one standard XLR to connect a mic to it.

  • When i save a file on Photoshop the color turns darker.

    Hi everyone,
I have CS6 and when i am working on Photoshop the color is fine and everything shows up how i want. Although when i save the file to a .jpeg the color drastically darkens to a point all my lighter details are lost. I tried emailing the .jpeg and .psd to another computer in my house and it works fine on them.My color settings currently are set to North America General Purpose 2 with sRGB selected. Past this point i don't really know what to try, if anyone has any suggestions on how to resolve this issue fire away please.

Photoshop is a color managed application, and uses icc profiles to maintain color appearance over a broad range of scenarios. This includes both a document profile and a display profile.
Many other applications are not, and all bets are off there unless you take specific precautions. So the question is, what application are you viewing the saved jpegs in outside of Photoshop?
A screenshot showing the two side by side would help pinpoint the exact issue here.

  • Dragging image from one file to another in photoshop causes color hue to change

Can anyone tell me why this is happening to me?
When I have two image files open in photoshop and I dgrag one of them to the other file it changes color hue?  The original image is in TIFF format. When I save that file two PSD and close it, then reopen it and drag it to the the other image file, it still causes hue to change.  Opening the original file in AI does not change color?  Anyone know why?  Is it something with embedded profiles somewhere? If thats the case, how do I get rid of it or harmonize that between files so that I dont get color changes?
    Thanks for your support
    -Ben

    It's Color Management 101:
Always honor the original color profile in which a file is created. Make sure the color profile is embedded, i.e. "the file is tagged" with said color profile.
When dragging one file over another, make sure they are in the same color space and bit-depth mode.  If there's a mismatch, CONVERT (never "assign")  the file you're copying to the appropriate profile.
If some moron hands you an untagged file, you're going to have to guess in what color space it was created by trying different profiles in the assign dialog box to see which one looks "better".  Other than that exception of an untagged file passed on to you by a moron, make it a habit never to deal with untagged files.

I have photoshop CC. I cannot open two files such as Tiffs and view them side by side. When I open the second file it overrides the first. Do I need to do something with preferences?

What happens when you try to use the clone stamp tool?
It should work with the images side by side.
You can setup photoshop cc to be like photoshop cs2 was on your other mac, by going to Photoshop>Preferences>Interface and unchecking
Open Documents as Tabs and Enable Floating Document Window Docking
And also going to Window and unchecking Application Frame

  • I have downloaded the two files needed for the upgrade of Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 to version 12 but I cannot open them to make them run and install. What am I supposed to do. One is a very large .7z file just over 1gb in size.

How do I open  up a .7z file just over 1gb in size? I have just downloaded this as an upgrade from Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 to version 12. I cannot see any sign of the Akamai program on my computer that is supposed to open and install the two files that I downloaded.

    Thanks Hans
I don’t mind mountain climbing but anything serious to do with a computer scares me silly.
I installed the 64 bit version of 7zip and once I figured out how to tell the computer to use the right application within that to open the 7zip file, the big file opened and I was able to apply the .exe file to get things going and installed. In the end the default location the installation chose was program files x86 which I think is the 32 bit folder but it all seems to be ok now.
Many thanks again for your response.

  • File with mask from photoshop placed in illustrator

Im having trouble placing an image from photoshop that has a transparent/foreground mask applied to it but when it is placed in illustrator the mask is not transparent and the full photoshop picture is visible.  How do I take an image from photoshop with transparency around edges and have it show up looking the same in illustrator? Is this possible?

What file format is your photoshop file, .psd, .tif, & .pdf all support transparency.
Whatever you see in checkerboard pattern in photoshop should be transparent when placed in Illustrator. Did you use a layer mask as I have on Group 1 layer set.

  • Can I open two files in photoshop cc?

I've been using Ph for years and just purchased the Creative Cloud. Upon opening Ph, I see the file taking up the whole screen with no apparent way to reduce the size and display other files side by side. I need the ability to drag a jpg onto another file.
There must be a way to do this...can somebody please help?

And you can turn off 'Open new docs in tabs' in General Preferences, but you can see the open image names across the top of the screen below the Options bar, and either click on the tab, or Ctrl (Cmd) tab between open documents.  It's a nice way to work if you give it a go, and you can set up shortcuts to toggle between documents in tabs, or one of the Tiled options.
There is an excellent workshop from last year's Adobe Max called Power Shortcuts, that gives tips on the subject, but it's towards the end of a long workshop.  It's one of my very favourite aids to Photoshop workflow, so give it a look if you have a spare hour sometime

  • Two files, same pantone color...Onscreen looks like two different colors?

Recently we have been having this issue at work, We have a line of packaging that uses the same pantone color (375 C). When we go to create a new document and use that same pantone the color onscreen looks more saturated then its predecessor. The only think I can think of is that I've upgrade to the pantone plus system but have since uninstalled and reinstalled the old color books. Both documents are in CMYK color space and both use the same ICC profile. Any thoughts? I know it wont appear this way when printed but we make a lot of PDFs for approvals and the colors come out more saturated in the PDF as well. See sample image below. Thanks for your help!

Try copying a sample of 375C from  Document A into document B. If the Doc A swatch magically changes color to match the doc B swatch the you have a document with either a modified or old color that uses the same EXACT SAME name. This happens when someone modifies the CMYK values PANTONE 375 C does not change the name of the color. What Illustrator does is the AUTOMATICALLY changes the color mode of Doc A swatch from CMYK to Book color, when you paste an item having the same swatch name. You do not  even get a about to merge color warning. For that reason if I ever tweak a color to get a better laser print, I change the name (eg: PANTONE 375C (Mod)
Though I feel one of Wade's 2 suggestions may be right, this also can cause color difference.

  • Import error when importing .psd file created in Photoshop CS3

I have a file that was created in Photoshop CS3. I am trying to import this file into Catalyst CS5, but I keep getting an input error. I created a file in Photoshop CS5 and I was able to import this .psd file successfully into catalyst. So I guess my question is this; Does Catalyst support .psd files created in Photoshop CS5 only? If this is the case, how can I convert the CS3 .psd to a CS5 .psd

I am now building my files using photoshop CS5. A few challenges I have experienced while trying to import into Catalyst:
    - If I do a straight import into Catalyst, I loose all my colors in Catalyst. That is, catalyst imports all my vectors without any of the colors I had in Photoshop. My understanding is that Catalyst has libraries to support Photoshop files, so your import from Photoshop should not look any different in Catalyst.
Work Around: I have had to rasterize / merged all my image layers for the different components I have built in Photoshop CS5. Then when I start the import process I click the Advanced button on the catalyst import dialog. From the advanced dialog, I have to flatten (to bitmap) all the images I intend to import.
This process takes about two hours because I have a lot of components on the page.
Is there something  I'm not doing right here? I'm not seeing the value add to Catalyst, if it's taking me this long to just import .psd files

  • Difference in file size in photoshop and bridge

Lets take a look at the Image Sise Dialog. Nothing in it indicates anything about any file size.  One number in it I have never been able t figure exactly how Adobe come up with and the is Pixel Dimensions Number all others I understand.
Below is a screen capture of the dialog shows 91.4M ???
3264x4896 is the 3:2 my Cannon 1D4 16MP the first calculator is
3264x4896=15980544 I can by the camera sensor is 16.1 MP but only delivers an image 15.98MP
Its 16bit color so each pixel has 3 16bit values for  RGB 6 bytes per pixel
    15980544x6=95883264 bytes 95.9M not 91.4M
    If 91.4 is in hex M  1028 is 1K so 1M 1028000 bytes is 1M
91.4x1028000=93959200 still short of the 95883264 bytes required so I do not how Adobe come up with the 91.4M #
Any way 3264x4896 is canvas size.  Has nothing to to with file size.
Photoshop also supports layers and layers can be canvas size or larger then canvas size as well as smaller then canvas.
Additionally layers can contain embedded object and object could contain a layer file like a placed PSD image.
The center section Document Size is the documents Print here you see the document currentle has a 240DPI resolution
    3264pixel width / 240 dpi = 13.6"
    4896pixel height / 240 dpi = 20.4"
The bottom section is the control section.  With resample NOT checked the top can not be changed Pixel Dimensions will not be changed nor would File size. And all three values in print size are linked. You change one value and Photoshop will chage the other two for you. With resample NOT checked the other controls are not settable. Pixel Dimensions are not change so no interpolation and no aspect ratio change.
With Resample checked Constrain Proportions will link width and height to preserv the current aspect ratio and not distort the image.
When you save a document file format is very important layered flat compression all play a roll. It very hard to even guess what the file size will be.
