Two finger "right click" no longer works!

This morning using the two-finger click on my MBP 13-inch stopped working. It acts the same way as the one-finger left-click. I have rebooted the computer twice, reset the preferences twice, cleaned the trackpad surface... Nothing.
To say the least, this is annoying. The two-finger scrolling still works fine. I am now using an external mouse but I'd like to get the right click back without resorting to the control key.
Any ideas? Thanks!

  • Right clicking no longer works in Safari

Just yesterday, I started experiencing a strange problem with Safari--the right mouse button no longer works. I also tried the right clicking option with command + clicking on the touchpad and that doesn't work either. Right clicking works outside the Safari window and in all other programs, so I'm pretty much baffled. I tried restarting the computer/reopening Safari and it allows me to right click exactly once before the right click option stops working again. I'm not going to use Safari anymore until this problem is resolved, so if anyone has any idea what's going on, please let me know.

While it is possible that a reinstallation is needed, let's start with some easier steps first. I would use some of the techniques described in [this article|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1199].
Do you have another user account on the computer? If not, create one (System Preferences > Accounts > Click on the lock to authenticate > click the "+" button to add a new account > fill in required info.) Next, log out of your usual account and log in to the other one. Launch Safari. Does the same issue occur?
If yes, you have a system wide issue. If no, it is a user specific issue. There are different methods for troubleshooting each. Post back here with your results and we'll see what we need to do next.
    Best of luck.

Instead of using execution statements involving
    synclient
on startup of X I'm now using /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-synaptics.conf for configuring my settings. This solved the problem.
I realized by the way that in my former setup no matter how many fingers I used for pressing down the ClickPad it did always perform a normal click in addition. That is why the context menu disappeared right away: It performed a mixture of a right and left click.
@Head_on_a_Stick: No Problem, your attempt to help is much appreciated

  • Two Finger Right Click on late G4 iBook with USB Trackpad?

I learned that with OSX Version 10.4.7 it is possible to use the two-finger-click instead of ctrl-click for right-clicking. But this only works on the new Intel Macbooks/Pro. Well, this is nice.
For older Laptops with ADB-Trackpad there is a freeware program called iScroll2 which also provides this feature.
For the late 2005 G4 iBooks with USB-trackpads there is apparently nothing:
The feature doesn't come with 10.4.7 here and iScroll2 is ADB-only.
On the one hand I don't really get the problem here, why these machines are not supported.
Since there is no announcement from apple it seems that they are just not interested in supporting computers which have been sold till not even a year ago.
If Apple is definitely not planning to support this in the future I would at least expect that they publish the source for the USB-driver so that the open source communitiy can take care of the problem.
G4 Ibook, among others   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

have you tried installing iScroll? I'm pretty sure it
should work...by USB trackpad are you referring to a
trackpad plugged in to your USB port?!? (".)
Maybe I didn't explain it clearly enough in my OP:
The late G4 iBooks have a "Apple Internal Trackpad" which is a USB-Device, whereas older models sport an ADB-trackpad. In the late iBooks ADB is no longer present.
On the iScroll2 page (http://iscroll2.sourceforge.net/) you will find the following information:
"Models that have two-finger scrolling already built-in are not supported! These use a completely different, USB-based trackpad, the driver or which is not available as open source. iScroll2 is based on Apple's AppleADBMouse-209.0.10 driver for the ADB-based trackpads found on older models, which is available as part of the publicly released Darwin source code.."
So again: The feature mentioned in the topic is not provided by Apple, nor is the USB driver source code publicly available making it quite unlikely the OSS community will come up with a solution.

  • Two finger right click on g4 ibook

    Hi guys,
I just got an ibook g4 and was wondering if there is such an option or program I can download in order to be able to right click using two fingers on the scroll pad like the MB and MBP.

Sidetrack will allow the right click, however, I believe you lose your ability to two-finger scroll.
    The FAQ states:
Q: Does SideTrack support two-finger scrolling on MacBooks and late-model PowerBooks and iBooks (2005 and later)?
A: Two-finger scrolling is a feature of the Apple driver for the USB trackpad hardware found in Apple laptops manufactured after 2005. Installing SideTrack will override the Apple driver and switch the trackpad to SideTrack's features. Support for two-finger scrolling on USB trackpads is being investigated and may appear in a future SideTrack release.
So you lose 2 finger scrolling but SideTrack allows you to scroll single finger.

  • Right Click No Longer Working on Cover Flow

I've just recently rebuilt my PC and have my music collection split over 2 drives - local C: drive (itunes folder) and an external drive.
When I reinstalled iTunes and copied over my library files I got an ! mark by all tracks on the external drive (because the drive letter had changed).
So I edited the library.xml to reflect the drive letter change, deleted the contents of the library.itl file and relaunched iTunes. Hey presto my ! marks had gone and all music is relinked.
However, I now have several problems with iTunes itself.
I can no longer right click on cover flow in order to sort by album, find album artwork etc. No menu comes up at all by right clicking in cover flow.
Secondly, a few compilation albums with various artists have become seperated into different albums after the library rebuild. If I select all of the tracks together and go to "get info" there is no longer a compliation tick box so that I can group it together as one album.
I have tried to do a repair reinstall of iTunes 8 but this still hasn't fixed it.
Anyone have any ideas how I can solve these problems?
    Thanks

I don't know why the right-click thing doesn't work anymore, but
+I got an ! mark by all tracks on the external drive (because the drive letter had changed).+
This is easily solved by assigning a drive letter:

  • Right clicking no longer works in Java?

Control clicking in Java no longer works on my new powerbook. Other applications seem to be fine.
How do I correct this? If uninstalling and reinstalling Java is the answer, how do I do this. I have poked around a bit but cannot find an answer to this.

  • Right-click no longer works in FF 7.0.1

Not sure exactly when it went away, but sometime in the last 72 hours, I've lost the ability to Right-Click any links in FF 7.0.1.
I've already tried all the usual: restart FF, restart the machine, check through the Add-ons.
Right clicking works just fine in Internet Explorer.
    Any suggestions?

Thanks, but I found the issue myself. It appears there's a conflict between the Yahoo Toolbar and the Menu Editor Add-on.
I deleted Yahoo Toolbar since it wasn't used much anyway and the problem went away.

  • Mouse right-click no longer works

I've done some online searches and have followed suggestions to unclick the option to right-click in System Preferences, then restart. Doesn't work. Is there a string I can delete in the system folder to restore right-click capabilities?
Otherwise, Mountain Lion has corrected some problems I'd with Lion for more than a year, so I'm happy. Now to fix this problem....
    Thanks in advance for suggestions....

  • Did 10.4.7 enable two finger right click?

I already had the hack installed but not after the upgrade to 10.4.7 I don't have to toggle it off/on after reboot so it seems like the os update addressed this issue. Can anyone confirm this, just curious?

My right click is not working and producing the context menu or ability to drag files and folders. I just spoke with a phone support person and we checked that all the mouse/trackpad options for right click were correct and checked.
Please can you help with this.
It has only just happened in the last few days.
    Many thanks

You might want to update your profile so that we can see what model iMac you have and what version of OSX you're running.
For this question, it might help to know if you're dealing with a trackpad, Magic Mouse, or something else?
(Until your issue's resolved, you can Control-Left Click to get the right click functionality).

  • File, edit, etc options no longer at the top of the screen since upgrade. My right-click doesn't work so I need the File, Edit options. How can I bring them back?

I only have Firefox tabs now and have not memorized all the Command keys to use when right clicking doesn't work. How can I access "File", "edit", etc....they used to be at the top of the screen before upgrade. I need to be able to copy/paste easily. Thank you.

The menu toolbar is hidden at default in Vista. You can use F11 to show it temporarily. Please also read this article:

  • Right-click doesn't work on select boxes, checkboxes & radio buttons. On other elements, there's no"Inspect Element" option

After installing FF 6.0, right-click doesn't work on select boxes, checkboxes & radio buttons, i.e. nothing happens on right-clicking.
The context-menu is available on other elements, but there's no"Inspect Element" option in the context-menu

Regarding the two-button click: just go to the "Sytem Preferences --> Mouse" pop-op and under "One Finger", check the "Secondary Click" box.  Problem solved.  I don't know how I missed this the first 3 times I went to there.    Oh well.
And as for why I had to change the Trackpad settings to get the Magic Mouse zoom feature to work (see original question): I'm still stumped.   Your guess is as good as mine.
    Hope this helps!

  • Touchgraph link browser right click won't work; jre 1.4.2_03 linux

touchgraph link browser right click won't work; jre 1.4.2
Wanted to mention that the touchgraph link browser(java client) client starts correctly in Redhat 9, but i found one problem when trying to edit links. The problem being that I can't open the small popup menu when i right click in linux RedHat 9. left clicking while dragging on a selected link (in edit mode) lets you create a new link both in microsoft windows 95a and in Redhat 9. When i right click in win95a, a small menu appears that allows me to edit a link, but this menu doesn't appear after right clicking a link in edit mode in redhat 9 (which does work with TG link browser in win95).
I tried using a 2 button mouse with 3 button emulation. I also tried to use a 3 button logitech trackball which works with the old logitech c7 setting in Redhat. I also tried to operate the mouse with it's three buttons using the number keypad in linux, which works in other applications under linux. The same problem still happens in trying all of these methods.
I was told that unix and windows use different "select," "extend," and "menu" buttons(in relation to the mouse).
Maybe, microsoft windows is using a different method of interpreting the right mouse button than redhat linux 9. if so, maybe there is a way to do this in linux (really, i have no idea how this could be done, but am open to try).
If there is a solution, i would appreciate knowing how to go about doing it. .
note: I am using Sun's java 1.4.2_04 in windows 95a and I am using Sun's java 1.4.2_03 in Redhat 9. Both are the most current, i just downloaded them recently.
note: touchgraph link browser is an open source java client and applet under the GNU general Public License. I think that the source code was included with the binary. I am using touchgraph link browser v 1.20 . I downloaded from sourceforge.net
in google i found the following:
    https://lists.xcf.berkeley.edu/lists/advanced-java/1999-September/000532.html
note: mara, you helped me before when i was practically installing redhat 9 and i had a problem with the installation and you mentioned that it was a faulty cd-rom drive. with your help, i am enjoying in learning about linux for the past 5 months since your answer helped me install redhat 9 successfully. Thank you very much since my very first question to you.
    Answer Hello,
I downloaded the program and, if I think of the right situation, the right-click doesn't bring a menu for me. The thing I noticed is that when I drag a new link and (with left mouse button pressed) press right button it has an effect of 'canceling' the link. That's why I think that right mouse button works correctly. The problem is why the menu does not appear.
I can see two reasons, both causing problems not easy to solve: bug in the program or incompatibility between Windows and Linux java versions. The second one should not happen.. but it doesn't mean it's impossible. A bug in the program should be easier to find, but not by me (with not very big Java experience it'd take me several days).
What I'd do in your place is to mail the program developers (or report a bug). It won't make things worse, but can fix things.
Sorry that I can't help more
    Mara
