Two finger scroll not working in Microsoft Word for Mac

Just finished installing Yosemite today and haven't had any real issues...however, I've noticed that two-finger scrolling doesn't work in Microsoft Word for mac. It works fine in many other applications (including other Microsoft apps--Excel & PowerPoint), but not Word.
I've looked for any scrolling options that may be "unchecked" in the preferences, but haven't found any.

I'm having the same issue. However, I have restarted and it still won't work. This is extremely frustrating as I have the latest updates and everything but it doesn't work and I keep forgetting every time I try to scroll.
I'm also having the issue of whenever my Mac goes to sleep or if I turn it off, the log in screen says there are updates necessary. I feel like this is a bug because I've updated my computer like 20 times in the past few days...

  • I updated to Yosemite, now my laptop keyboard does not work in MS Word for Mac. Help!

I updated to Yosemite, now my laptop keyboard does not work in MS Word for Mac. Help! Any suggestions for fixing this?

Did you ever get a solution to your problem? Because I am having the same problem. I was actually in the middle of using Word when the keyboard stopped working. But it works in other apps, including in Excel.
Thing is that my laptop just got back from Apple for repairs and they replaced everything but the display - including the hard drive.
So not only do I have plenty of hard drive space, but it should be virus and error free otherwise.
I have only installed a few programs and redownloaded some of my files from places like Dropbox, but otherwise is essentially a new system.
Oh - and it came with Yosemite, so I did not upgrade to Yosemite and still Word doesn't work.
I've always had trouble getting Word to play nice with my Mac but that was also with the old, full hard drive.
This is a fresh install. And since I lost all my files, I only had like 1 old file I have downloaded from email and accessed and was in the process of
creating a new file when it crashed. I got no error, the keyboard just stopped working (to type). I also cannot even get Word > Preferences to even open,
    so it is completely unresponsive.
I did a Google search and under the Microsoft communities two suggestions to that person were that there may be multiple copies installed -
I have only the one - and that one is in the wrong place - again, I only have the one and it installed to the Hard drive (visible in Launchpad / Apps).
Another suggestion was that there was some problem with the updates. I ran updates and they installed fine. That helper suggested that the user
may have had different updates that worked for the other Office apps (Excel, PPT etc.) but not Word and that was at least part, if not all of his problem,
but all my Office apps show the same update version 12.3.6, so that cannot be the issue with me.
I've not yet tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but as I got no errors on the original install or updates, I'm not sure if that would fix it.
I've found that Mac just doesn't play nice with some programs at all.
And even though I have a factory installed version of Yosemite on a new, fresh hard drive, even when I booted up, my iPhoto app (which is empty) crashed. I am not sure if my iPhone or iPad was charging at the time, but I don't think so. iPhoto that I still have not even used has crashed several more times since, most notably when plugging in my iPhone / iPad to charge, namely when I declined to upload photos (by default) to DropBox. That may not be related at all, but thus far seems the only other problem I have encountered until this Word problem.
I'm on a MacBook Pro, Sept. 2009, running OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 factory installed from Apple repairs running Office: 2008 for Mac (Home and Student edition).
Please advise if you found a resolution and what it was.
    Thanks

  • T430s Two finger scroll not working reliably

    Hi!
Sometimes it works, sometimes it takes the skin of my fingers to get two finger scroll working.
The system update does not see a reason to update the drivers.
Is there more effective software for the synaptic touchpad to do two finger scroll?

    Hi, theking2
System Update is a very useful tool, but I find it best to always check for driver updates manually, just in case the updater missed something. The latest version of the Syanptics driver can be found here and may help your issue.
    Hope it helps,
    Adam

  • Windows 8 two-finger-scrolling not working properly

Two-Finger Scrolling in Windows 8 doesn't seem to work properly on my U300S Synaptics trackpad.
Instead of just scrolling through the tiles or app on the Windows 8(.1) startscreen, individual apps are higlighted and scrolled through like when I use the arrow-keys on a regular keyboard.
Also, in the metro version of Internet Explorer you should be able to move back and forth in the browser history by horizontally doing a two-finger-scroll gesture.
Do I have to install anything besides the Synpatics driver to get this to work properly?

I am having similar problems, although I don't have the zoom issue- it is simply not scrolling.   very frustrating when you are accustomed to this method.   My resolution was also reset, but I don't find that as much of an issue- the scrolling I can't fix.

  • Two Finger Scroll Not Working on my Inspiron 3543

It's been just a month since I bought my new lappy. Usually when I start it up, the two finger scroll works just fine in the Start menu of Windows 8.1.
But after about 10 minutes or so, when I press Start for something, and try scrolling with the two fingers... BAMM !!!!   It's futile. Nothing happens whatsoever.
    Please help. All responses appreciated.

    Hey,
First of all... Thank you for replying. I don't remember any specific update but, the Windows action center keeps downloading some additional updates if that's what you are referring to. And I also tried to update my touchpad driver, but it says that it is already up to date.
Regarding the Dell TouchPad properties, I already tried that and it is configured as per my convenience. Yet it goes through the same error.
          Thank you again for suggesting.

  • After 10.9.4 Update, two finger scrolling not working in any App

I have all the right settings selected in System Preferences. Tried restarting the computer a couple times. I can't figure out why it is happening. Thanks for the help!

Go to system preferences, trackpad. Then go to point and click and make sure tap to click is ticked. It worked for me.

  • Two-Finger Scrolling Stopped Working

After updating to 10.5.6, my two-finger scrolling stopped working; everything else seems to be fine. What can I do to get it working again?

Same thing happened to me today. I've had the 10.5.6 update installed for a week and have restarted my system several times since then, and experienced no problems until now. Today was the first day I powered my system down completely (rather than just restarting) and now my trackpad is wonky.
I can use the trackpad like normal with one finger, and two-finger vertical scrolling works as long as I'm inside an application. I can also use two fingers to right-click. I just can't use two fingers to scroll in any direction besides up or down, and I can only scroll if I'm in an application or window that requires scrolling.
Inside my Trackpad preferences panel in System Prefs, there's a checkbox for "Secondary Tap" under "Two Fingers." The other options ("Scroll," "Rotate," etc.) appear but there is no checkbox next to them. There isn't a checkbox for "Swipe to Navigate" under "Three Fingers" either.
I will call Apple support and see what I can find out.

  • Keyboard shortcuts do not work in Microsoft word

Why sometimes the keyboard shortcuts (e.g. command a, command c, commad v) do not work in Microsoft word?
And when I encounter this problem, I need to restart my mac. It's troublesome!
What happen? Is this the problem of my mac or my microsoft office?

I am working. I modified one shortcut and used that shortcut. It worked then all the other shortcuts worked. I had to use the modified shortcut first to make shortcuts start up again. This is a buggy piece of software.

  • My Microsoft Word for Mac hasn't worked since I downloaded Yosemite. documents can't be save, edited or closed

My Microsoft Word for Mac hasn't worked since I downloaded the upgrade to Yosemite.  Documents can't be saved, edited or closed

    Hi There,
I have similar issues with the whole MS Office solution since I "upgraded' towards Yosemite:
when I use Cmd+W or the "close" menu option to close a Word file, Word crashes down (I always send a message to Microsoft but I guess this is more related to Yosemite or to its installation; consequence is it become very difficult to close a file, as it re-opens it the next time :-(
same thing for Excel and PowerPoint
When I try to save in PDF format a Word file containing several sections, it produces one PDF file per section - wasn't before Yosemite
Excel crashes down much more often than before because of lack of memory
Well, if someone has a suggestion, I would be grateful, 'cause it is becoming actually boring - and counter-productive !

  • French checker on Microsoft Word for mac

    Hi,
I was wondering if anyone got the french spelling/grammar checker on microsoft word for mac to work? I'm not exactly sure how to set it up, so any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!!

yes - it is included with Word.
If you haven't installed it get your install disks and do a custom install of proofing tools - lots of languages to choose from.
Then in Word set the document, or text selection, language to the language you are using. It does the rest.

  • Does Lion support the old microsoft word for MAC files?

Does Lion support the old microsoft word for MAC  files? I have heard that if i down load  Lion then my Word files for Mac will not function or work. Is this true?? I don't want to download Lion if this happens.

The file type does not matter, the program you use to open the file does.
You need a newer version of word (or a third party program).
You can use openoffice as well.

  • Can you open with Pages documents that were created in a 2004 version of Microsoft word for Mac?

Can you open in Pages documents that were created in a 2004 version of Microsoft Word for Mac?

Pages '09 will open .doc files from Word 2004. The Mac OS is not what is in question. Pages '09 opens Word 2004 documents and if the same version of Pages will run in Lion and in Mountain Lion ..... Thats all that matters.
I trust you were using MS Office 2004 and would now like to buy Pages?

  • When attempting to open a hyperlink to a PDF file on the web from a Microsoft WORD for Mac 2011 (14.3.9) document, Safari 7.0 instead displays the file as text?

When attempting to open a hyperlink to a PDF file on the web from a Microsoft WORD for Mac 2011 (14.3.9) document, Safari 7.0 instead displays the file as text?

    As seen in http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac/forum/macoffice2011-macword/has-the-word- 2011-for-mac-invisible-toolbars/018a3ab6-0570-4ad5-abf8-5b6427fdde3e?msgId=e111b f0a-0e32-4fa3-9536-f349dad8439d
    and it worked for me:
    1. Quit Word
    2. In the Finder's menu bar, select Go > Go to folder and type or paste: ~/Library/Preferences/
    3. Click on Go
    4. Locate the preference file com.microsoft.Word.plist, then Option-drag it to the desktop to create a backup copy
    5. Go to Applications/Utilities and open Terminal
    6. Paste the following bold command at the $ prompt (it's a single line):
defaults write com.microsoft.Word 14\\Toolbars\\Show_HIToolbar -boolean TRUE
    7. Press Return and then quit with Command Q
    8. Start Word and test. If the fix works, trash the backup file in the Desktop file. Otherwise, restore it.
In the original source the author also mentions the change in Word 2008
