Two-finger swipe in Safari makes site unresponsive

Hi,
I am having trouble with two-finger swipe.
If I swipe back or forward while browsing, all navigation on the site stops working. With mousover links show up, but nothing happens when clicked. Scrolling up and down altso stops.
Using the back and forward navigation do not have this affect.
I'm running Safari 5.1.1 on OS X 10.7.2 on a MacBook Air.
Does anyone know a fix for this trouble?
Regards,
SDS

There are reports that this problem can be solved by simply restarting, or by resetting the PRAM.

When I swipe to the right with two fingers in Safari are those all separate windows that had been opened by me inadvertently?

Swiping right with 2 fingers normally goes back in browsing history by one page, or forward if you've disabled 'natural' gestures in trackpad preferences.

  • Two finger swipe keeps refreshing page

When I do a two finger swipe in Safari 5.1 (Lion), it goes back to the previous page but always refreshes that page.  Nothing on the previous page ever changes.  Is there a way to make Safari stop refreshing it?

I'm having the same issue on two machines. Love the two finger swipe but the page refreshing is annoying.

  • No two finger swipe for navigating files in Lion?

I use the track pad and just updated to Lion - which has some great features. But I while I can two finger swipe on Safari pages to go back and forth, I don't seem to be able to do that now when going through my files in Finder....
Am I missing something or is this the way it is now?....
    Any help would be appreciated!

check your gestures settings in system preferences>trackpad>more gestures tab

  • Two finger swipe has gone wrong.

I was messing with the two finger swipe in safari where you swipe back and forth for the forward page and backward page with the cool animation. Everything was fine until i found out that this can not be done in Google Chrome or Firefox. So I decided to switch to the three finger swipe and sure enough, the back and forth in those browsers worked like a charm. I was showing off to a buddy and went back to the two finger swipe to show him the animation and how cool and easy it was and the weirdest thing happened. The page would swipe about a quarter of the way and than bounce back. I tried more gesture settings and nothing. I quit safari and rebooted and nothing. I have set every defualt setting and nothing. Is there anyone that would know whats going on? Thanks

More info - I noticed that when I use quite a bit of velocity to swipe, meaning that I start literally on one end of the keyboard and swipe across the trackpad and well onto the other side of the keyboard, then the pages will in fact move as they're supposed to (forward or backward).  Thing is this is in no way supposed to be normal behavior.  It's like there's a speed caliper on the feature that's set way too insensitive.  Now I'm wondering if this is actually a setting in preferences that somehow got out of whack.  The only setting I can find though has to do with the speed of the arrow pointer, not with the sensitivity of the two-finger swipe to activate.

  • Safari-Two Finger Swipe = White Screen

I was under the impression that the latest updateto Safari was supposed to fix this issue. But whenever I browse this forum and two finger swipe to go back in safari I get a white screen that lasts anywhere between 5-8 seconds while the page reloads. Any fix for this?

Go to System Prefernces and Trackpad or Mouse, depending on which you are using, and see that the gestures you want to use are all checked.

  • Magic Mouse two finger swipe (forward/back) not working with Opera 10.

Magic Mouse left and right two finger swipe (forward and back) works great with Safari, Firefox, and Camino.
I enjoy using Opera 10 and noticed that the two finger swipe does not function with Opera. Any ideas on why or what adjustments I can make to get it to work?

No workaround so far with this problem and also no posts in the Opera forums. Just have to wait until Opera includes this functionality in their next release.
In the meantime you can help by joining the forum (takes a minute) and posting your concern. The more people that join and voice their complaint the faster something will get coded into their browser.

  • Can not do "two finger swipe to go back" in "look up" gesture.

In Mountain Lion the "two finger swipe right to go back" navigates just fine in the "look up" function in a three finger tap gesture.
But in Mavericks the two finger swipe right cannot go back.
    This makes a low efficiency.
Do someone get the same issue or just me? Can this be fixed?
    Thanks.

I just found out that the two finger swipe right don't do any thing on the right side of this red line in the pop up window, but on the left side of this red line, it works.
    Still,
    Low efficiency.

  • Two-finger swipe

Two finger swipe on trackpad with control key works fine for zooming screen, but it does not remain in force -- something turns it off, & I have to log out and back in to get it to work again. 10.7, 2.8GHz Intel Core i7, 8GB RAM.

    HI,
Go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.driver.AppleHIDMouse.plist to the Trash.
    Restart your iMac.
The update may have corrupted the Mouse preferences is all.
If that didn't help, you can re "pair" the mosue with your iMac.
    Open System Preferences/Bluetooth
Make sure the mouse is turned on. Select your mouse on the left then click the - button.
Then click the + which will prompt the Bluetooth Setup Assistant and you can re "pair" the mouse.
Hopefully that will help the "two finger swipe" issue.

  • No two-finger swipe for month, year, day in iCal

I can't use a two-finger swipe to switch forward or back in iCal in day, month, or year view, only week. How can I get it to do this in the other views?

    Nemo,
System Preferences...>Mouse>More Gestures will influence your "two-finger" swipe choices. If you have a Trackpad, choose that instead of Mouse in System Preferences.
Swiping is only available in the Calendar Day/Week views. Monthly changes are made by scrolling, and Year view is changed by clicking on the < > arrows surrounding the word "Today" on the top left side of the Year window.

  • Having issues with two-finger swipe and hot corners. Help!

I've lately been having an issue, where my two finger swipe will stop working. I also notice that 3 of my 4 hot corners no longer work, either. The only one that works is the top left. When I restart my computer, or change users, etc, it's fixed for a while, but then the problem will start up again in about an hour.
I've tried the Software Update, and it seems everything is up to date. Any solutions?? I spent a good deal of money on this iMac, and I'm concerned there's something wrong with it.
I have a 27" iMac, which I bought around November 2011. Software is OSX 10.7.5
    Thanks!

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Magic Mouse - Two Finger Swipe not working in Finder + iTunes

    Hello,
since OSX 10.8 I realized that in Finder & iTunes the backward/forward navigation has stopped working with Magic Mouse (two-finger-swipe gesture).
I have already read a lot of forums as well as apple-discussions and didn't find a solution apart from MagicPrefs or any other 3rd-party-app.
Is that a bug or just not meant to work? Does anybody know why Apple stopped providing this - very useful - gesture?
Thank you for your time and have a perfect day
    Sascha

    Pual_31 suggested good advise...
I would also recommend if that does not work, to reboot and run "repair permissions" from Disk Utilities.
Also might suggest downloading and trying MagicPrefs, it's a free program for the Magic Mouse and it really works great. May help with your problem, may not but I'd give it a try.

  • HT6065 Anyone have an idea of when a two-finger swipe bug fix is coming? I see no mention of the error in this update's summary. : /

Still having mucho trackpad/magic mouse issues with two finger swiping/scrolling. Best short-term fix I've found is tapping the power button and then waking my MBP back up again. It usually fixes the trackpad/magic mouse freeze on two-finger gestures temporarily. Anyone know if Apple's made any mention of a fix for this headed our way?

It's hard to tell if there's a rhyme or reason as to when or why it wigs out, but I've noticed that since my Mavericks install, sometimes two finger scrolling or swiping will suddenly be completely non-responsive, and it just won't work at all. I mostly use two finger gestures in Safari, so for me, it's been most noticable for scrolling vertically or flicking back or forward during web browsing.
It's not limited to Safari, the problem also affects Chrome and Firefox usability, as well.

It seems to impede trackpad & magic mouse use equally, and while it's not a constant issue, I'd say it'll lock up somewhere around every 12 hours, sometimes more often, sometimes less. Once it locks up, the only way to fix it is either a sloppy workaround like the one I mentioned in my above comment, or a reboot of the MBP.
From the reading around I've done on the problem, it seems that for some people it causes the total freeze, like me, some people have just noticed erractic, delayed, or temporarily non-responsive use of varying severity, but just based on the number of people mentioning it, it certainly appears connected to the Mavericks update.
At a cursory glance, here's a handful of other users have a similar issue:

  • 2 finger swipe in Safari/iTunes

    I have a late 2007 Macbook Pro with 10.6.2.
As you know it has 2 finger scrolling, but no 3 finger swiping
But now I was thinking, it registers 2 finger horizontal scrolling, shouldn't it be able to switch that to a swipe?
So I mean that if I do a 2 finger swipe in Safari, it goes to the previous/next page and in iTunes it goes to the previous/next song.
    Thanks!

There is no option to use 2 finger swipe for page browsing or iTunes
    Just the horizontal scrolling
But I think you think I have a Macbook Pro who is able to do 3 finger swiping, but that's not true, the maximum number of fingers this one can detect is only 2
That's why I'm asking if I can use a 2 finger swipe for these abilities
