Two graphic cards - 1x GTX680 4GB and 1x GTX680 2GB for Premiere and Resolve

Hi,
i use 2 Nvidia GTX680 cards. 1 with 4 and the other with 2 GB V-RAM
For Resolve i want put the displays in the 2GB card for GUI and let the 4 GB card for GPU use only.
How does this setup work in Premiere. Is Premiere usinh the card where the displays are pluged in? Or does it use the other or maybe both?
I cant find any informations about that
Maybe someone can help

i believe premiere will try to use both video cards, you can check with GPU-Z while working/rendering in premiere.

  • New MacbookPro with Nvidia Geforce GT 750M 2GB for Premiere and Aftereffects CS6, CC and CC14?

My Mac got stolen, now i have to buy a new one.
I think about buying the new Macbook Pro Retina with Nvidia Geforce GT 750M 2GB Graphicscard.
I want hardware which works fine with both Premiere Pro, AE CS6 and the later versions! (Maybe i want to upgrade some time).
What is the best configuration on a MacBook Pro that i can work with CS6 and later versions as good as possible?
    What is Mercury Playback Engine?
    What's CUDA?
Can i use this GPU acceleration on the latest Macbook Pro with Nvidia GT 750M card in CS6, CC and CC14?
    Thanks very much!

Considering the new 15"...( 13" is USELESS) ...Macbook Pro starts at over $2,500 with the necessary i7 CPU, ( forget i5).....you would be WAY better served to go with a powerful Windows gaming laptop for HALF that price from a company like Asus,or, others.  If money is no object and you MUST go Apple, then, there are SOME pros and some cons.
    1. Pro - has Thunderbolt, for hi-speed EXPENSIVE external storage, or, for Hi -res external monitor....however, MY 2 year old Asus laptop HAS a "thunderbolt" port , TOO...which I use to drive a hi-res monitor.
Con - though NVidia 750m 2GB GPU is adequate for much of the CUDA accelerated operations, newer Windows laptops have more advanced 800 and 900 series GPUs with far more video memory...for HALF the price !
    2. Pro -  PPro and AE runs best with Windows 8.1
Con -  Mac operating system in the recent past has had issues and hiccups vs. Windows in running Premiere Pro....I'm not sure if all that has been fixed at this time.
    3. Pro -  newest mac book pro uses PCI SSD storage...amazing transfer speed of data !.....however, a 1TB flavor of this costs an additional $1,000
Con - not sure of the maximum amount of system memory that can be installed in MBOOK PRO..."Apple Chat" guy says 16GB.....you need at least 24 GB...better to have 32 GB for best  operation. Also, some Windows gaming laptops offer internal RAID options for high speed storage ,or, at least two internal HDD bays for SSDs.
In addition : The "Mercury Playback Engine" is a feature of Premiere pro which allows for the "acceleration" of certain effects and operations on the timeline...in many cases eliminating the the need to "render previews" to see what you are doing. When coupled with a capable NVidia GPU, this acceleration can produce a TEN TIMES IMPROVEMENT in processing the effects,or, operations, ( like "scaling"  and resolution conversions ) using the NVidia ONLY CUDA technology.
In summary, the 16GB memory limit , the lower level NVidia mobile GPU, and EXCRUCIATING HIGH PRICE all tip the scales for me to say : NOOOOOO !!!!!......DON'T DO IT !!!
IF a laptop is a MUST.....go with a Windows gaming rig and READ as much as you can first. If a desktop is a possible solution, you can get WAY better performance than a laptop...especially with today's Haswell E CPUs and the X99 motherboards.
I would wait a little bit for all the machines to hit the market which have the NEW " NVMe" PCI SSDs in them, or, build your own on a motherboard which will NATIVELY have that feature.
    Good Luck !

  • CS4 and Mac Pro with two graphic cards: OpenGL not supported!

I have two graphic cards in my Mac Pro. If a use a dual display setup where both displays are connected to the same card, Photoshop enables OpenGL support (Preferences > Performance).
Switch both displays to the other card, also works fine.
BUT if I connect one display to the first card and the second display to the second card (so each display has its own graphic card) the Open GL support is greyed out (I can not longer use canvas display rotation for example)
This doesn't make sense to me and looks like a bug...

Are you running two of the same cards or are they different? I'm running a pair of NVidia 7300GTs with no issues...and I'm driving a pair of 30" Cinemas and an NEC 26" widescreen. I get better performance on the single 30" than on the card with the two displays. Also note that which PCI slot you are driving the cards in has an impact on their performance...something to look into.

I'm not aware of any, not to say that there aren't any issues.
it may have nothing to do with ntpd, there are a lot of things running.
ntpd just happen to make the log entry at the same time as the panic.
I would check to see if there are any updates available for you system.
if this is the first time that this has happened. it may be (pick one):
    cosmic rays
    sun spots
    the trilateral commission
if this happens more frequently and that traces look the same, then
there may be a real problem that needs to be looked into further.

  • Two graphics card on macbook pro which one do I use?

I have two graphics cards on my macbook pro. ADM random 6490m (256mb vram) and Intel HD graphics 3000 (512mb vram). My question is which one should I use? I don't do any hardcore gaming or photoshop. I guess that I am just looking for the best display and least buffering if that even has anything to do with the graphics card. I just want to get the most out of my macbook. I appreciate any advice. Thank you.

Your MBP more or less chooses which graphics card to use automatically.  In System Preferences>Energy Saver, check Automatic graphics switching.  When it's checked on, it will use the higher power and higher quality dedicated AMD 6490 when you're plugged into the wall, and uses the Intel 3000HD when on battery.
I have downloaded gfxCardStatus to give me more control over which graphics card to use.  There are times I might want the AMD while on battery, even though it runs hotter and uses more battery life.
Either card will do well with HD movies, though I notice a lot more artifacts with the Intel 3000 when the movie has a lot of action or explosions or sounds.  If you want to do hardcore gaming, you need the AMD of course.  Photoshop is more dependent on the central processor rather than the graphics card, so I'm not sure you'd have much issue using either one.

when i unplug the third display on the second graphic card, premiere pro is working well.
It would be very great to get some Answers.

  • Advantage/disadvantage two graphics cards in Mac Pro?

I'm working on an unfamiliar edit suite.  They've installed two graphics cards in a late model Mac Pro.  The second monitor isn't responding properly ... it's a black screen when it is supposed to be a full screen display of whatever is on the timeline.
A Mac Tech support article says: "Final Cut Studio applications may exhibit unexpected behaviors when used on a Mac Pro that has more than one graphics card.  Unexpected behaviors may include rendering issues, Digital Cinema Desktop display issues, and window display issues."
The Tech support article says to pull one of the graphics cards.
This isn't my system.  What is the advantage to having two graphics cards in a Mac Pro?
I want to pull one to make the 2nd monitor respond correctly.  But I have to justify this to the owners of the suite.
    All ears,
    Ben

    Hi guys,
I disconnected one card.  Working with a single monitor there are is no more crashing with FCP.  The card I'm using has a DVI out and two miniDisplayPorts.  I'm looking around for an adaptor (or two) to go with the two miniDisplayPort outs.  The card is an ATI RADEON 5770; I think it will support up to three monitors, two for sure.
There is no one in the suite here at present ... I've been poking around for the adaptors.  I think canceling out the second graphics card may solve all my problems.
Thank you kindly for your help,
    Ben

  • Can the 2008 Mac Pro (MacPro3,1) support two graphics cards?

I have a 2008 Mac Pro, I want to know if I can run two graphics cards in tandem?
I currently have a ATI Radeon HD 5770 installed for 1GB of graphics, I want to find out if It's also possible to run a second card to increase the total graphics power of the machine?
    I see two possible options;
First, run the HD 5770 in one of the PCI Express 16-lane slots, and the old NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT in the other available 16-lane slot; for a total of 1.5GB GPU power.
Second, would it be possible to run two ATI Radeon HD 5770 cards, in each 16-lane slot; for a total of 2GB of GPU power.
I realise that this would first require a power supply upgrade, as my machine only shipped with a 318 watt power supply. (Which would not support running two high-end cards.)
    It would be very useful.
    Thank you for any advice.
    Regards,
    Peter.

    Thanks for the information!
I wouldn't have thought there would be enough power capacity in the current supply to run two cards. - Would this mean OS X will only see one card whilst the other sits as inactive hardware? (Or does it mean that that the system will see two different cards?
    For example:
Would it be possible to use one card for a graphics intensive process in Adobe Photoshop, and use the other card separately with another application such as Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere Pro?
Also, how would a 64-bit application like Adobe Photoshop which has GPU acceleration utilise the setup? Would it only be ably to use one card at a time (per process)? Or could it utilise both cards at once to in essence get twice the graphics acceleration than if only using a single card?
Simply, can OS X assign each card to a different application/process? I hope that makes sense.
Also, any thoughts on how Bootcamp would handle two cards (since crossfire should be available in Windows?
Before I commit to purchasing a second 5770, would you seeing if my Mac will run the current card + the old NVIDIA 8800 gt?
    Thanks in advance.

  • W530 - How does things work when having two graphics cards?

So I have a W530 with an Intel HD Graphics 4000 and a NVIDIA Quadro K2000M.
How does things work when the computer has two graphics cards? I mean, is only one active at a time? Or is one doing complex calculations while the other one might be the one displaying them on the screen?
    Related question:
I just bought and installed the game Portal 2. How do I know if it is using the better graphics card (NVIDIA Quadro K2000M)? And if it is not, how do I configure Windows, Steam or Portal 2 to use it to its full potential?

Technically, the Intel integrated graphics is always active, although it is not always in use. Nvidia graphics will turn on and off according to need. Software from Nvidia called Optimus automatically switches between integrated (Intel) and dedicated (Nvidia) graphics, according to the application. Portal 2 will run smoothly at maximum settings and native 1920x1080 resolution using the K2000M. The easiest way to see which graphics card is in use is to check the "Display GPU activity icon in notification area" option in the Desktop menu of the Nvidia control panel. It should automatically use the Nvidia graphics card when Steam is running. If it does not, you can add Steam to the program settings in Nvidia control panel and select that it should always use the Nvidia graphics.
Also, if you are using an external monitor and the notebook monitor, then you will be using both graphics cards - the Intel graphics will drive the notebook screen and the Nvidia card will power the external display(s).

  • Laptop with two graphics cards? [Nvidia Optimus - SOLVED]

    Hi,
I just bought a laptop that includes two graphics cards: a low-power Intel one and a high-performance nVidia card. Right now I'm just using the Intel graphics card, and the system only detects it. When I install nVidia drivers I have to uninstall the intel drivers because of incompatibilities, and it doesn't even start the X server. I could attach a log if necessary, but I haven't found anything relevant, it just says that the nVidia driver is not valid for the detected graphics card. Is there a way to use both graphics cards transparently, like in other-operating-systems?
    Some hints? Thank you!

It's called Optimus. Kinda surprised there's people who don't already know about it. Not supported fully in Linux, but there's a hack to get the nvidia card going: Bumblebee
    Edit: Bah, too late!

  • Two graphics card

I´d like to know if with two graphics card in your macpro increase the render speed working with motion,after,etc...
    Thanks a lot.

To give Credit where it is due, BlackMagic Software's DaVinci Resolve is currently only App I know to run in OSX and leverage more than one GPU. It uses a GT120 as GUI card while using a GTX285 to render. Any other mix of cards greatly slows the app down.
We can all hope that someday more apps will do this. Apple hasn't made it easy. (despite all of the "OpenCl / Grand Central" hoopla)

  • MSI 890FXA-GD70 mobo won't post with two graphics cards (non-crossfire).

As title of topic says, I have a Sapphire 4870x2 graphics card in the PCIE 1 slot and in the #3 slot I have an ASUS geforce 9600gt passively cooled inserted.  When powering on, no monitor signal.  With either card in ANY of the slots alone, the motherboard will post as intended.  I also cleared CMOS before using both and either together.  This is somewhat frustrating as I would absolutely love to use the geforce 9600gt as a physx card in many of the games I play.  Any advice on this one?

There are registry hacks available to make physx work with non-nvidia-primary graphics (ati) if you have an eligible graphics chip on-board.  I fixed the issue now.  Apparently, BIOS needed to know which graphics card was the primary - so by leaving the4870x2 connected first and connecting the 9600gt after (have a 120mm fan attached to the side of it with cable zip ties) things work as intended.  So yeah, i'll get those registry hacks working and physx going on this rig.  And please, if you're absolutely certain what you're saying say it.  Otherwise, please do some research before telling me what I can and can't do.
