Two graphics questions

Two questions about graphics, which aren't related to each
other:
- I'd like to add vector graphic objects to one of my slides
(some arrows). Captivate seems to have no "draw" module like the
one in Word. There are several less-cool solutions, one of which I
used. But graphic objects right in Captivate would be nice. Any way
to do it? (What I did was copy the background to MS Paint and draw
in some arrows, which have jagged edges because they're diagonal.)
- When I'm documenting the use of input boxes and pull-down
lists, the outline on the box or list is often incomplete, as if
someone erased some random segments. Even a small bitmap image
superimposed to complete the broken line doesn't work-- something
seems to be "on top of" the whole slide and causing this. Any idea
what of the cause?

You said RH and this is posted in the Captivate forums. Do
you really mean RH or is that a mistype?
If you really do mean Captivate, you might find that you
achieve better results by editing the image in TechSmith SnagIt
(assuming you have it available).

Two graphics card on macbook pro which one do I use?

I have two graphics cards on my macbook pro. ADM random 6490m (256mb vram) and Intel HD graphics 3000 (512mb vram). My question is which one should I use? I don't do any hardcore gaming or photoshop. I guess that I am just looking for the best display and least buffering if that even has anything to do with the graphics card. I just want to get the most out of my macbook. I appreciate any advice. Your MBP more or less chooses which graphics card to use automatically. In System Preferences>Energy Saver, check Automatic graphics switching. When it's checked on, it will use the higher power and higher quality dedicated AMD 6490 when you're plugged into the wall, and uses the Intel 3000HD when on battery.
I have downloaded gfxCardStatus to give me more control over which graphics card to use. There are times I might want the AMD while on battery, even though it runs hotter and uses more battery life.
Either card will do well with HD movies, though I notice a lot more artifacts with the Intel 3000 when the movie has a lot of action or explosions or sounds. If you want to do hardcore gaming, you need the AMD of course. Photoshop is more dependent on the central processor rather than the graphics card, so I'm not sure you'd have much issue using either one.

To provie details try pasting all but serial number from system profile. Sorry but Mac Pro tells me nothing, not model, year, or what graphic card it came with or updated with.

Use of two graphics

My name is Beth Stone. I am the author of two books about beadwork, "Seed Bead Stitching" and "More Seed Bead Stitching." I am currently self-publishing my third book titled, "Bead, Play & Love." On my "about the author" page I have a tiny black and white picture of my dog. Just for fun I "dressed" him up using two graphics from Photoshop Elements 6. I am attaching the image here. This image is 1 inch by 1 inch in the book. As I was getting ready to hit the "order" button, I was "asked" if all images were either mine or if I had permission to use them. The image is mine but the added graphics are not. I don't want to make any mistakes.
On my acknowledgments page I have written: Calvin's costume was created with graphics from Adobe® Photoshop® Elements® 6
On my copyright page I will have: Page 75. Photoshop® Elements® is a registered trademarks of Adobe Systems Incorporated
Is this correct and okay to do or legally not allowed? I have spent the better part of the morning reading everything I humanly (and not legally trained) can. I sent an email with this question to the "permissions" department at Adobe but the email was sent back telling me that the person is out until November 26th. I would really appreciate any assistance with this before I just scrap the whole idea.

You own the original copyright and in my opinion you don’t even have to make any citation. Otherwise graphic designers would never purchase CS5 and Elements would become extinct.
In any event for an image of 1 x 1 you are well covered, IMHO by the doctrine of “fair use”

W530 - How does things work when having two graphics cards?

So I have a W530 with an Intel HD Graphics 4000 and a NVIDIA Quadro K2000M.
How does things work when the computer has two graphics cards? I mean, is only one active at a time? Or is one doing complex calculations while the other one might be the one displaying them on the screen?

Technically, the Intel integrated graphics is always active, although it is not always in use. Nvidia graphics will turn on and off according to need. Software from Nvidia called Optimus automatically switches between integrated (Intel) and dedicated (Nvidia) graphics, according to the application. Portal 2 will run smoothly at maximum settings and native 1920x1080 resolution using the K2000M. The easiest way to see which graphics card is in use is to check the "Display GPU activity icon in notification area" option in the Desktop menu of the Nvidia control panel. It should automatically use the Nvidia graphics card when Steam is running. If it does not, you can add Steam to the program settings in Nvidia control panel and select that it should always use the Nvidia graphics.
Also, if you are using an external monitor and the notebook monitor, then you will be using both graphics cards - the Intel graphics will drive the notebook screen and the Nvidia card will power the external display(s).

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; ways of doing so include clicking here and picking a method for your country, and filling out and submitting this form.

It was never completely clear whether it was just hidden or whether Apple ran a download page for iChat 6.
As the Download for Messages Beta was separate and "Deleted" iChat it would seem it would be another download for iChat 6.
iMessages will not function as it is only an Account type within Messages and iChat 6 does not have it.
Therefore messages on the iPhone will not sync to the Mac. (until you get Mountain Lion and Messages in that OS X version).
Mountain Lion and it's full version of Messages will not sync the iMessages that have happened in between the 14th December 2012 (end date of Messages beta) and the Install of Mountain Lion if you decide on that route.

I'm designing an authentication system. Two theoretical questions have evolved. I am not so sure about it. Hope you can help me out =)
1. First sign or first cipher?
What is best practice here? Is it a risk to a symmetrical cryptosystem, if there's also a hash of the plaintext available? Or should the cipher text be signed? I am afraid that this might cause a security risk for the hash: The ciphertext's entropy should be lower than the plaintext's, which might cause lower entropy of the hash value that makes it more likely to find possible collusions.
2. Challenge Response Authentication
This is an hypotectical one: Is it of matter, if a (one-side) Challenge Response Authentication is done reverse: Bob sends Alice f(RAND), Alice deciphers it and sends RAND back to Bob.

Two app questions

Ok all, I have two app questions.
1. Ever since the IOS 5.1 update, some streams on Tune In Radio Pro do not play in stereo and I can't find a way to fix it! I've tried turning mono audio on and off, turning AAC streams on and off, and still nothing. Could it be that my phone is complaining that it doesn't have a sim card? That's my only theory at this point. I thought it had something to do with the stream bitrate and I have been working with the TuneIn support to try and get to the bottom of this, but nothing has worked. I thought it was just the 32 kbps and 48 kbps aac streams affected, but it seems to be all on some streaming providers. Here's some of the stations I've logged mono audio on, in Spokane, KZZU and KZBD, in Saint Lewis, WARH, in DC WRQX, in New York WPLJ, in Portland Maine WHOM, in Philidelphia WBEN, and in Yakima KFFM. These are all 32 or 48 kbps streams. I can't get stereo on KQMV or KLCK in Seattle, haven't tried KLCK actually as I listen to that enough over the air, I am just basing that one on how TuneIn is acting. I can also get KFFM in stereo via Radio Pup, so in that instance, it seems to be just a TuneIn issue. WBEN is also on IHeart Radio and does not come in in stereo on either app. I didn't mention KFAT in Ankorage, AK because they are with one of the providers that doesn't seem to have a stereo aac stream on TuneIn at all. Other stations in this category dealing with two providers here, WCLI in Dayton, OH, WJDQ Meridian MS, KMGL Oklahoma City, KLMY in Long Beach WA, not listed in a market on TuneIn, KRXY in Shelton also not listed under a city, and I feel like I am forgetting a few but that's most of them. If I didn't mention it before, KQMV and KLCK have 64 kbps aac streams as well as 32 kbps aac streams, problem only occurs on 32 kbps streams there. Any solution?
2. Now this next question will go really fast. TuneIn must use some kind of audio capturing software to record, but you can only do that with TuneIn stations. Is there a way to do this with other apps, such as the hd radio that works with the Ibiquity app in the app store?

Well, here's the skinny then. If it's an isolated issue and you cannot provide a way of replicating the problem, the Apple does not consider it an OS X problem. Rather it's a problem with the third-party software. Given what you have reported I'd tend to agree with that viewpoint.
There are some third-party utilities that enable audio capture from applications that don't support it themselves. The best of them is Audio Hijack Pro 2.10.3. I highly recommend it.
If you are interested in Internet radio then you should check out Radium 2.8.3 and/or World Radio 2.0 and/or Radioshift 1.6.7. The last one will record its audio.

Two random questions

hey guys.. i have two random questions..
1) when you recalibrate your battery... after you drain the computer and leave it for 5 hours.. when you RECHARGE IT (before its fully recharged) are you allowed to use it? or are you only allowed to use the macbook AFTER it's recharged... (because in the instructions it only talks about using it for the 2 hours AFTEr it's rechaarged)
2) also... i always wondered if there was a better alternative between amc the ripper and handbrake (since mac the ripper apparently can rip different region coded dvds)... but ir ealised mac the ripper does FULL dvd rips whilst handbrake converts it into like mp4 and stuff... is that true? (as in.. u cant do vice versa on each?)

it's illegal for some reason in the UK.
It is illegal in the US too. Seems "fair use" does not apply to DVDs and disabling the copy protection (which you do when you rip your DVD via mac the ripper or handbrake) is against the law.

Two Dock Questions...

Two quick questions. First, I'm wondering if there is anyway to have certain dock preferences set for different displays. For instance...when I have my Macbook hooked up to my external display, I like the dock to always display on the left of the screen. When I am using my Macbook's screen, I like it to disappear and be at the bottom of the screen. Since my computer can detect when it is connected to the external display, it should be able to make those distinctions. Anyone know how that could work?
Second, I'm wondering how I can get the applications stack back into the dock. I accidentally removed it awhile ago and can't figure out how to get it back.

This doesn't work. I'm trying to grab the Applications folder from the finder, and when I move it to the dock, the cloud icon stays there. The dock never responds like it is going to accept a new stack. I can get any other folder to appear as a stack, but not the Applications folder. I tried with the applications link that is in the sidebar of the Finder and that is what happened. I also grabbed the Applications folder from the Home folder, and it will allow me to place it in the stack portion of the dock. However, it never operates as a stack. It just opens that folder in the finder. I right clicked on the folder in the dock and "display as stack" is checked, but it still opens as a folder.

Two Finder questions

Two Finder questions:
1. Is there a way to get the status bar to show something more useful than how many files I have selected and how much space is left on a volume? It would be nice if it could tell me something like file size or the combined size of the selected items. Which brings me to...
2. How can I 'Get info' for multiple items as a combined total? Since the status bar won't tell me, this would be the only other reasonable way to find out.
I keep ending up in a situation where I know how much space is available on a memory stick, yet I don't know how many files I can put on it because I have no way of seeing how much space the selected files take up.

I also noticed that if you press ctrl instead of option, you get 'Get Summary Info' which results in the exact same window, but with a nicer title bar. Very important, that is.

Any ideas on the status bar? Having come from Windows I'm used to it dynamically showing a lot of useful information. As it is, only telling me how many items there are and how much space there is on the volume, I may just nix it if it can't do more. A 'tweak' perhaps that's found more behind the scenes than in an option window somewhere?
