Two iAS on Solaris - clustering solutions

Dear all,
I would like to implement iAS 6.0 sp2 on Solaris 8 with the following
clustering solution.
For Machine A, two iAS instances are installed.
iAS instance 1 - Primary iAS for team A
iAS instance 2 - Backup iAS for team B
LDAP - LDAP for team A
For Machine B, two iAS instances are installed too.
iAS instance 1 - Primary iAS for team B
iAS instance 2 - Backup iAS for team A
LDAP - LDAP for team B
Do you think that is it possible?
If it's possible, it there any side-effect on this setup.

It is possible.I have done that. But with iAS 6.0 SP1 on Solaris 6.

Regarding changing screen resolution, you can issue a command #kdmconfig
and select Xorg which will give different options wherein you can change device types, their resolution, frequency etc. after making the required changes, save & exit. reboot the system, now the screen resolution would have changed.
you can look for the nic drivers entries in files like /etc/path_to_inst, /etc/driver_aliases, /dev.

Can we run two instances of solaris in 1 hardware (SunFire Server)

There is a need for us to run two instance of Solaris in SunFire Server.
Because we need to install Domino Servers in a Single Hardware.
The hardware consist of Eight Processors.
How to allocate the resource in such a way that the Domino Server should take 4 Processor and other application should take other four.
Please be in more detail.

"Sunfire" is a product line that includes many different computer designs
and many different capabilities. You will need to be more specific as to what model you actually have.
The Sun Fire Midrange Systems are hardware designs that can be configured
to run discrete domains in the same overall chassis.
So, for those systems the answer to your question would be "Yes".
For any Sun Fire computer syustem that is smaller than the Midrange systems,
the answer to your question would be "No".
So ... A Sun Fire 3800 with eight processors ??? "Yes"
However, a Sunfire V880 with eight processors ??? "No"
Any other configuration questions of the actual Solaris instance,
such as Zones or processor thread affinity are outside the scope of this forum.
Those issues would be discussed better in an OS forum.

Is it possible to install Two iAS 6.5 SP2 instances on a single solaris box

Hi,
I have iPlanet Application server 6.0 SP2 installed on sun solaris 2.7.
Now, I want to install one more instance of iAS (same version) on the same solaris box. Just wondering, is it possible, because i think in case of Sun One Apps Server 7 its not possible.
If its possible, is there any specific configuration I have to make ?

I think it is possible to have two instances of IAS 6.5 on one machine because last year I had similar situation with IAS 6.5 Enterprise - I instaled it twice and put them in cluster. Things were just fine.
Each creation of instance of app server meant new installation of IAS software in different install folder, where second one used Directory Server installed durring the first installation.
I remember that I had only one Directory Server installation where each IAS instance had its own space for configuration data (by specifying diferent name for "IAS global config params" during the installation) and different set of port numbers for IAS processes. Finnaly, I put these two instances in a cluster...
IAS 7.0 (Sun One App server 7.0) has different approach regarding creating and configuring several app server instances, because creating one more instance of app server doesn't mean another installation of software...

Need recommendation - iis with two physical servers and clusters

I was hoping to get a recommendation/opinion or two on the configuration I've inherited. I'm looking
at the following configuration using weblogic 8.1 sp4 server (to be upgraded to sp6) running on two physical machines:
MachineA:
Domain: myDomain
Cluster: cluster1
Servers: Admin Server:9001 (not part of cluster)
ManagedServer1:7001
ManagedServer2:7010
MachineB:
Domain: myDomain
Cluster: cluster2
Servers: Admin Server:9001 (not part of cluster)
ManagedServer3:7001
ManagedServer4:7010
On MachineA: IIS Proxy Plugin with parameter in .ini file
WeblogicCluster: MachineA:7001, MachineA:7010, MachineB:7001,MachineB7010
Naturally, the IIS is acting as a round robin load balancer..
The domains were created using the wizard on both machines and basic domain template..
For proper failover to be taken advantage of, does something different need to be configured? Or is it fine?
And if so, does group replication have something to do with it?
Should either of the clusters be Managed Servers across physical machines?
or should this just be one cluster of 4 managed servers across two machines?
I really am not sure on any of this, even though i've read through much of the documentation for clustering..twice.
I should mention that there is only a .war file deployed with 4 connection pools and 4 Data Sources..No EJBs or JMS

I just changed the port numbers so they flow and have a pattern - 70* port numbers belong to cluster 1, 80* port numbers belong to cluster 2. No technical benefit apart from it makes it tidier in my opinion.
Port 9001 for the admin server is normally the domain wide admin port - you could be using that, so that's fine, but my admin server is running 7001.
You also only need one admin server per domain, this can run on MachineA
Replication groups are used to help WLS figure out where to place the secondary http session. It will try servers on a different machine/replication group first, if none available, it will create secondary on the same machine.
What you will end up with is a domain with 4 managed servers in it. The admin server will run on machineA, say using port 7001, each of the managed servers will contact the admin server to download it's config.
The cluster1 will contain 2 managed servers and the same for cluster2.
providing you have your cluster multicast addresses set up and the cluster is working, that should be all you need to do for the session failover.
There's some BEA sample code somewhere which will deploy a web-app and show which managed server you've attached to. If you find that and then connect through IIS, shut down the server that the JSP tells you, you should be able to see the session fail-over nicely.

Two problems with a grep solution?

I have two problems that I need some help with. I've been searching around for solutions, but are unsure what approach that is the best:
A: I need a new (or next) paragraph style after TWO hard line breaks. How do I do this? Do i search for two line breaks in GREP and replace it with a "end of paragraph"? Or do I need scripting for it?
See the attached file for the actual layout solution. "1" is the current situation, and I want it to automaticly be "2".
B: We have just implemented a new text editor/system and it lacks a feature: In the body text there is no styling/labeling for "paragraph title". In other words, the paragraph titles show up in Indesign as plain body text.
This is a big source of error. So: Is there any way to search for sentences that lacks period (.) and change their styling? The paragraph titles are the onlye sentences without periods in the whole text.
I'll be VERY happy it someone can point me in the right direction, or provide a solution.

You are getting familiar with the lingo, Peter! You are correct: you can use a class in a negative lookbehind. This GREP
(?<![.,!])$
will find an end-of-paragraph where there is no period, comma, or exclamation before. But it has a few problems, though -- it doesn't "mark" anything as found, and InDesign does not like it. A solution is to find any character-which-is-not-punctuation:
[^.,!]$
If you are sure you want to skip all punctuation, you could try the built-in class name "punctuation":
[^[:punct:]]$
.. but I just saw a bit of an unexpected side effect: a hard return (which is "any code followed by the end of a paragraph", if one is applying the formula to the letter) also is "not punctuation" (again playing strictly by the rules). And you Can't Argue with the rules. So, alternative #1 would be to work around it with
[^[:punct:]\r]$
which is 'everything except punctuation OR a hard return'. Or let's forget all about that pesky punctuation-not-punctuation and search for a word character at the end of a paragraph:
\w$

One iMac, two AppleIDs... a solution!

I recently ran into a problem with two users sharing one iMac. My partner and I were setting up our new 27" iMac and he downloaded all of his media from the cloud using his AppleID. I created another user account for me and went to download all of my media using my AppleID, but I got this message:
"If you download past purchases with your Apple ID, you cannot auto-download or download past purchases with a different Apple ID for 90 days."
After some Googling, I realize this is problem for a lot of people. For 90-days, you can only associate one AppleID to a Mac even though there may be multiple users on the machine. This issue seems to be infuriating the community but I wanted to share a small work around using Home Sharing.
Note: This may not work for everyone, but it worked for us. Also, this solution requires two computers.
Using Home Sharing in iTunes, users can transfer all of their media between computers on the same network. Therefore, I have automatic downloads set up on my 5 year old MacBook Pro. When I make purchases, they automatically download onto my laptop. THEN, I can go to my desktop and transfer my media over using Home Sharing. Its exactly as though I just downloaded my past purchases, even though I can't do so without dealing with some 90-day lock out business.
My partner is still able to have Automatic Downloads on his account and the iMac can remain associated to his Apple ID. I more tech-saavy than he is, so its easier for him this way.
It's not a perfect elegant solution to this proble, but it works for us.

There we go...
On the first user-account iTunes Match is working fine. No problems on that.
What I did on the second User Account:
1. I logg on to the second user account
2. starting iTunes
3. selcting iTunes Match and then "activate"
4. after I enter the corresponding Apple-ID, iTunes Match starts to compare the lokaly saved music with iTunes Match which takes about 10-15mins (Step 1 through Step 3)
5. after that, it shows me the button "finished"
so far so good
If I press the button "Finished" it jumps back to the initial Screen, where it starts over with Step 1
That loop never stops.
So there is something not quite working at all.
Is that better to understand? I don´t think, that screenshots will help at all, as there is now difference to the coorect messages. There are no error messages

Two Managed Servers non-clustered problem

I have two managed servers each exactly the same just listening on different
          port in the same domain. When I start the second server I get a "Child
          exited " message reported in the first server's logs. This does not seem to
          affect the running of the server. Does anyone know why this happens. Note
          that both servers define the same jndi name for a stateless session bean.
          Could this be a problem>


Solaris 8. There is no information in any log relating to the message "Child
          Exited". Note that sometimes the message appears twice.

JDBC-ODBC Bridge with iAS on Solaris

Is there any way to use the Sun JDBC-ODBC bridge with the iPlanet
Application Server running on UNIX (Solaris)? If it is possible, can
someone who has done it share the basic steps. For example, I cannot
figure out what parameters to enter when configuring the bridge as a
datasource and also how to pass certain environment variables (eg the
LD_LIBRARY_PATH which points to the ODBC driver manager).
It seems that on Windows iAS has ODBC as a Type 2 JDBC data source (at
least the manuals have screenshots with ODBC nodes). However I need to
have iAS running on Solaris (and connecting to a proprietary ODBC
driver; no JDBC driver is available for this data source).
I have iAS 6.0 SP3 with iWS 4.1 SP9 on Solaris 8.

You can...
          1. Register HttpClusterServlet in two different webapps and make them point
          to two
          different clusters.
          2. Redploy the proxy webapp with a new configuration on the fly, for cluster
          failover.
          3. Define virtual hosts and make them point to two different clusters.
          .... depends on what you want to acheive.

Install two instances in Solaris 9 + Oracle 10.2

I am trying to install portal DEV and QAS(NW 7.0) in same Sun Solaris box, I have finished the DEV installation with 'Central System Installation' option. It ran OK. I try to install QAS in it with same option 'Central System Instalation', when it run to install database step, sapinst popup me change to dir /oracle/stage/102_64/database/SAP, run ./RUNINSTALLER, but when i run it, it give me below error:

2. If i cannot use above way, how should i do for finish the installation? My target is just install DEV and QAS in same box.

CHARM: two Change Managers in an solution manager - SDMN user statuses

Hi to all
I'm trying to handle two change Managers in the one CHARM client , each of them has own project and own system landscape for which he is responsible. I'm trying to restrict them, with well known charm authorizations of Change Manager, in a way that each of them should be able to handle just his own project and project assigned SDMN transaction type.
So far I've managed to restrict Change Manager to just one Task list with the authorisations object B_SMAN_WPL but this authorizations object is related just to the SDMN Task list but not to the User statuses of the SDMN transactions type!!
If you will restrict Change Manager role just to one task list (for example M*11) with the above auth. object (B_SMAN_WPL) it will be able to handle just this task through the SDMN drop down actions task "Go To Task List" no others task list should be usable. So in this case your Change Manager is restricted to just one Task list. Thanks to "B_SMAN_WPL"!!
But
....if the same Change Manager should go to edit the new SDMN transactions (for example with the task list M*22) , Change Manager should not be able to edit/change, the Task list itself (he is restricted by B_SMAN_WPL ), but it should be able to change User Status of corresponding SDMN! - To Move phases back and forth!?? How Come?
How can we restrict Change manager to be able to handle just SDMN - which belongs to the certain project that is defined inside of authorization object S_PROJ_GEN.?

I've just returned from the Hyperion conference here in South Africa. In one of the papers presented a BI consultant was using dynamically updated MaxL scripts to update dimensions and members within them. She had developed a VB front-end with MS Excel as the back-end. She was using the excel to pass parameters to the MaxL scripts and so controlling what was being updated on the model. The VB front end only allowed certain dimensions to be updated.Regards,Fraser

If sunray software qualifies to be installed on a sun clusters..... ? and if it is then where to find the relevant material for configuration ?

There are no agents for the SunRay software as far as I know. However, that's not to say you can't create a highly available architecture for SunRay users.
Obviously, internally we use SunRays (I'm writing this from a SunRay at home) and we have highly available infrastructure. I think the general approach is to have highly available home directories and then mount those onto one or more SunRay servers. If a SunRay server fails, the users can log onto another SunRay server.
There might be an architecture whitepaper somewhere - see if there are any SunRay forums (fora) and ask there.
