Two Icons for Time Capsule

After trying everything, including a clean install, two icons still appear for me in Finder. Can anyone help me with this? Small, but details matter to me. Plus, it confuses my wife and we share iTunes and iPhoto through AirPort...
Thanks in advance!

I've seen this on our network at work and never really been able to figure it out.
Tell us something about your home network.
Is it a subnet of a larger network?

Hello, I have two questions on time capsule  I can only have it on my external hd files and free up my internal memory to my mac  I can use an external hard drive, in my case a lacie rugged as shared memory for my two computers

I have a mackbook pro and an iMac if I buy a time capsule 2tb airport, I can use it with time machine and what would be the best way to use it.
There is no particular setup required for TM.. both computers will create their own backup sparsebundle which is like a virtual disk.. Pondini explains the whole thing if you read the reference I gave you.
and how to use time capsule airport whit other external hd to use my old lacie airport with the new time capsule
Up to you.. you can plug the external drive into the TC and enjoy really slow file transfers or you can plug it into your computer and use it as external drive.. which is faster than the TC.. and TM can include it in the backup.
Again everything is explained in the reference.. you are not reading it.

If you are using the Lion or Mountain Lion operating system on your Mac.....

  • Time Machine issues (16030) sparsebundle" is already in use for Time Capsule backup

Time Machine issues (16030) sparsebundle” is already in use for Time Capsule backup process.  Just started happeing been using it for over two years.

First, restart the computer and the Time Capsule. In most of the cases, this solve the problem.
    If it doesn't work, see > http://pondini.org/TM/C12.html

Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility

Click the Base Station menu at the uppermost top of the computer screen up where the Help, File, Window, etc menus appear
    Click Show Passwords

  • Express as booster for time capsule

I'm trying to set up airport express as a wireless booster for time capsule which is wired to my modem.
I keep reading about setting up WDS but am using airport utilities 5.5 which doesn't have that option. Can anyone tell me how to set this up? every time I select express in the utilities page I get a prompt asking if I want to switch wireless set ups. Utterly lost

You need to check a setting on your Time Capsule (TC) before you try to configure the AirPort Express (AX) so leave it (the AX) powered off for now and go through the following steps for your TC:
Open AirPort Utility, click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the row of icons
Make sure that there is a check mark next to "Allow this network to be extended"
Make a written note of your wireless network name and security settings as they will be needed later when you configure the AX
Click Update to save any changes
Now, temporarily connect an ethernet cable from your computer to the AX and power it up. (This is a more reliable method than trying to configure the AX using wireless only)
Open AirPort Utility, click Manual Setup
Click the Base Station tab below the icons to enter a device name, password, adjust time zone settings, etc
    Click the Wireless tab
Wireless Mode should be set to "Extend a wireless network". If you don't see this choice, hold down the option key on your computer as you click on the selection box
Wireless Network Name...the name of your TC network should appear as a choice. Click to select it
Put a check mark next to "Allow wireless clients"
Wireless Security...exact same setting as your TC network
Wireless Password...exact same setting as your TC network
Click the Music icon to make sure that AirTunes is enabled
Click Update to save your configuration settings and the AX will restart in 20-25 seconds and you should get the green light. You can disconnect the ethernet cable, power down the AX and them move it to the desired location.
If you need further information, Apple's instructions to setup the "extend a wireless network" feature can be found on pages 43-44 of this Airport Networks Guide.
Please post back on your progress.

  • Do I need to keep my external hard drive connected at all times for time capsule?

Do I need to keep my external hard drive connected at all times for time capsule?

    Hi,
I have a similar question. I have backed up my external hard drive through my computer, onto my TC. When I go into TM, it doesn't show the external hard drive unless it is connected to the computer. Can I access the info from the external hard drive that is on the TC if I don't have the hard drive plugged in? If so, how can I do that?
    Thanks,
    Bernadette

  • Use external drive for Time Capsule backups AND file storage?

I have an external drive formatted by my MBP.  I'm using it to store my iTunes music library and iPhoto pics.  Can I use the drive for Time Capsule backups as well?

Yes, but that is not recommended. Storage and backup should be kept separate to reduce the chances of a disk failure. This is especially important because you cannot even partition a Time Capsule drive. Go get a separate drive for your storage needs. Get another drive for a second backup and use a different method of backup than Time Machine

  • Configure syslog for Time Capsule

I have seen some items on this in the forums, but to be honest..I would this would be pretty simple to find somewhere, but none of what I see seems to work, plus like 2 - 3 years old...whats up with that?
Can someone give me instructions for setting up syslog config for Time Capsule, going to the latest Apple Mini
    Thanks, Joshua

This Apple article may not give you the whole story, but it may help.  One thing it doesn't seem to do is tell you where to find that information on the Mac that's receiving the Syslog information.  Since you know enough about that to ask, I'll hope that you already know that.

  • What makes the color of the icon for my external HD change to the color of the icon for Time Machine?

What makes the color of the icon for my external hard drive change to the color of the icon for Time Machine?

Perhaps when you first connected the drive you were asked if you wanted this to be used for TM.  If you clicked yes it remembers that.

  • Why can't I use iDisk for a back-up disk for Time Capsule?

    G'Day All,
I am new to apple and mostly am loving it! Being new to this product has me asking some basic questions, like ... why can't I use iDisk for a back-up disk for Time Capsule?
Here I have something like 20 gb disk space available, but it seems I need to buy an external hard drive (or an airport) in order to use, what I believe is one of apples greatest inventions, the Time Machine...
Can anyone correct my flawed understanding or, better yet, teach me how to do it properly?
    Cheers
    Gabriel

    Thank you Pondini.
Speed makes sense, but I thought I had plenty of size available ... never mind! Looking over some of the other posts, it looks as though I'd be better off with an external Hard drive than the Apple Time Capsule (if I want more than 12-18months service).
That was true of some of the ones made a couple of years ago (many of which Apple replaced way beyond the warranty period, and even some beyond the 3-year AppleCare period). Presumably Apple has fixed the power supply problem in the newer units, so they'll last longer.
If you don't have AppleCare for your Mac, I'd strongly suggest buying it. If you do, and buy a TimeCapsule, Airport, or other accessory within 2 years, it's covered, too.
But unless you need a wireless router, yes, paying for one in a Time Capsule doesn't make sense. A good external HD is a much better buy.
thank you for the links - I am still getting used to the way Apples work ...

  • On iOS 7.0.2, after web (OTA) installation there are two icons for the app on the home screen; one is invalid.

    Hello,
I have filed a bugreport, but I am curious if anybody else has noticed this.
    Summary:
Icon that was displaying progress of installation stays on screen next to normal icon and it is impossible to delete it or start the app with it.
    Steps to Reproduce:
    1. Full factory reset of iPhone with iOS 7.0.2
    2. Open web page with link for OTA installation.
    3. After install is finished there are two icons for the app.
    Expected Results:
Icon that was displaying the progress should disappear after installation.
    Actual Results:
Icon that was displaying the progress stays on screen is not usable and cannot be deleted.
    Version:
    7.0.2
    Notes:
    Configuration:
Server used to serve the page with installation files is "Server" app on MacBook Pro with Mountain Lion.
The same happens if other servers are used; Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.

    Hello,
    I have the same problem!
    Any idea?
    Thanks.

  • Are there any firmaware updates for time capsule?

Are there any firmware updates for Time Capsule/Time machine?
I just had a new hybrid (SSD and spinning disk) drive (750 GB) installed on my MacBook Pro and used Boot Kamp to partition it and run Windows xp. Now, my previously working Time Machine won't function. It says the "sparsebundle" is open (or in use)  preventing the back-up from working properly. When I try and remove and re-install Time Capsule as the disk to back-up to, it still doesn't work. My plan "B" is get a second Time Capsule and dedicate it to the MacBook. But, I fear I'll face the same problem.
When I open to reconfigure Time Machine, the Time Capsule disk is identified as the back-up, but it's also seen in the "available disks to use for back-up" along with with Boot Kamp disk which is part of the new SSD hybrid hard drive just installed. (Remember it's the partitioned part running Windows xp.)
I've unplugged/plugged-in the ethernet internet connection and the power cord many times to no avail. The message still says the sparsebundle is in the way.
Do you think deleting Boot Kamp disk from the list of available hard drives might solve the problem?
    Bill in Tulsa

TM can only use AFP and only on disks formatted HFS+ (ie Mac Extended Journaled) so it should not bring up a boot camp partition as a possible destination at all .. but I have not done that seutp.
It says the "sparsebundle" is open (or in use)
That error is well known. It should simply required the TC to be restarted..
That sometimes gets things working where the simple restart won't.
I would recommend using short names, with no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
    That is C9
    http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
If you have a more complicated setup.. I would recommend firstly doing a TM reset in the computer.
See A4 in the same reference.
Do a verify then of the sparsebundle on the TC.. A5 but you might need to inherit the old backup if you want to continue an old backup.. A new hard disk will make the TM consider the old backup no longer belongs to the computer.. there is a UUID connection to the actual hard disk used in the backup.
Again read the info in pondini. B5 and B6.
The sparsebundle in use is C12 but there are a number of sparsebundle issues in section C.. C17 is another common issue.
Some of what you have done is not adequate.. eg disconnecting ethernet is not enough.. you need to reboot the TC.

  • Icon for Time machine

How do I make an icon for Time machine( Mac Book Pro OS X 10. 6

    nader09,
the Time Machine icon no longer spinning in Mavericks is completely normal — the change was done as an energy-saving measure.
I have neither Flash Player nor Blood and Glory, so I can’t comment on those.

  • Trying to connect Airport time capsule to my leopard iOS mac.  Downloaded software for time capsule for snow leapard/leopard but still says I need more software.  What do I need?

Trying to connect Airport time capsule to my leopard iOS mac.  Downloaded software for time capsule for snow leapard/leopard but still says I need more software.  What do I need? I have a 10.5.7 iOS (Leopard).  It connects to wifi at speeds in the airport and has plenty of storage capacity and memory.

If your Time Capsule looks like this..
Please review the System Requirements to set up and administer the device.....
    Setup and Administration
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 6 or later and AirPort Utility 1.3
Mac with OS X Lion v10.7.5 or later and Airport Utility 6.3 or higher
