Two identical profile in system preference – display – color?

Hello to all.
I am a new Mac user and I would ask for clarification.
My hobby is photography.
When selecting a different color profile in the Display preferences pene in system preferences I noticed that I have two profiles with the same name (for example two name of Adobe RGB (1998), sRGB, ...).
I wonder why there are two identical profiles with the same name?
I have installed CC Photoshop, Lightroom 5 and Nik software filters.
I have Maverick X OS system with all updates.

I understand monitor calibration using something llike X-Rite or Gretag, but what about the sRGB/Adobe RGB/Generic thing in System preferences>Monitor>Color? Is the latter for printing purposes? What should I select when doing post processing on Adobe Lightroom or Photoshop Elements?

Yes your Display Profile will slightly affect your finished product, but if that RGB profile is working for you then don't try and fix it. However if you do professional or semi professional work, then you might want to consider using professional calibration tools to calibrate your display.

You may have installed one or more of the common types of ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it. It's been reported that some variants of the "VSearch" malware block access to the page. If that happens, start in safe mode by holding down the shift key at the startup chime, then try again.
Back up all data before making any changes.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those. If Safari crashes on launch, skip that step and come back to it after you've done everything else.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, ask for further instructions.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. It may have come from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere should not be selected. "Avast" is the worst of the whole wretched lot of commercial "security" products for the Mac. Not only does it fail to protect you from any real danger, it may send personal data (such as web browsing history and the contents of email messages) back to the developer without your knowledge, give false warnings, destabilize and slow down the computer, expose you to network attack, and corrupt the network settings and the permissions of files in your home folder. Removing it may not repair all the damage.
Some versions of the product also inject advertising into web pages. In short, apart from the fine print in the license agreement, Avast is indistinguishable from malware, and is arguably worse than any known malware now in circulation.
Back up all data, then remove Avast according to the developer's instructions. Restart.
If you tried to remove Avast by dragging an application to the Trash, you'll have to reinstall it and then follow the instructions linked above.

The Mac uses a heavily parameterized Driver for the graphics cards, rather than drivers for each attached display. For this reason, displays MUST respond to requests for their identity and capabilities, so that the parameters can be set properly to get a picture.
You can see whether the display has responded to the request by looking in:

to check for the name of the display. "No Display Connected" is exactly the problem you need to solve. Sometimes the ( Detect Displays ) button will help, but sometimes the Display itself needs its settings changed so that it knows the HDMI port is actively connected to a computer.
[√] Mirror displays is RARELY helpful, because it requires both the built-in and the TV to use the same resolution. This does not work very often -- one or the other may go dark. Uncheck this until you get it going.

Missing resolution lines system preferences-- display

Hi,
I've recently got a mac mini which I've got hooked up to a Samsung syncmaster 205BW (which has a native resolution of 1680x1050)
Initially when I set it up I had no problems getting that resolution set in Mac OS X, however I've put it on a KVM with my other machine and now I'm having trouble setting the resolution correctly.
When I go into system preferences --> Display, the resolution I'm looking for (1680x1050 60Hz) is not on the list.
I'd appreciate it if anyone could point me in the right direction for how to add this resolution to the list.

I have some questions for you. When the mini is hooked directly to the Samsung, is the monitor detected as "Syncmaster" or by some other specific name within Displays preferences? If yes, then when you insert the KVM between the Samsung and the mini, do you notice that the monitor is no longer identified that way and instead carries some generic ID like "VGA Display" or some other generic name? If the above is the case, that means the KVM is interrupting the plug-and-play data channel connection which is embedded in the video cable. You will need to resort to 3rd party software (DisplayConfigX or SwitchRes X) to manually configure the missing timings you desire. Either that or return the KVM for a better one that works right and is plug-and-play compatible.

Troubleshoot the network as that is likely what is causing the issue.
Also, temporarily disable the firewall on the Mac and disable IPV6 on the computer.

Why lost my System Preference Display?

After installing Lepord 10.7.4 I have lost the Display resolution except for 1920 x 1200 and 960 x 600. Neither of these is acceptable for my iMac. Before downloading 10.7.4 I had all kinds of resolutions shown in System Preference Display. How can I can I get back to them?

Two Identity Profile Problems

For years I have been able to have open two Identity Profiles in Firefox. One for my wife and one for me so we can have our own Yahoo and Facebook accounts open at the same time on one computer. With in the last couple of weeks it will log me out of both Yahoo & Facebook accounts on Profile 2 but Profile 1 continues to stay logged in. Every time I relogin to my accounts on Profile 2 within about a minute or two Facebook will tell me "Your not logged in" and close me out and my Yahoo account will rest to the sign in screen.

You could try checking your proxy setting in Profile 2. Definitely Yahoo is sensitive to this. Please see the following thread: [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/930519 I am able to log in to Yahoo mail but it keeps asking me for my password every 2 or 3 mins].

No more Bluetooth: profiler or system preferences

Originally thought this was a software issue: tonight while trying to connect to my cell phone, the Bluetooth icon in System Preferences just disappeared. No longer shows up, even after trashing the com.apple.systemiuser file.
Did SMC reset, still no luck. Not even showing up in profiler either. Will boot from external disc and try. Will create guest account and try. But coming just a month after getting a new Airport card, I'm suspecting this may be a hardware issue.
Only the fourth time this MacBook has been in the shop for major repairs.
Any other suggestions?

It seems you're going in panic!
First of all run mainteinance , look for system updates if any, and take care of any block key pressed
on your keyboard.
Do not abuse of Force Quit it 'd destroy preference applications, if your itunes take 3h to import your library you can setup in Energy Saver panel some tunings to protect lcd.
I think 3h to import a music library is not normal, can you post some other info about?
What can of device you are copying from?
Did you import ,when you set up your new iMac , an user from your old mac?
Take a look also at spotlight corner, if there's a little point inside the glass icon , spotlight is indexing your drive/s , this is normal on the first system's run and this 'd slow mac performance.

Airplay- Not shown on System Preference Display

I have the late Macbook Pro 2011 and just read about the Airplay feature. My MBP should have the feature but i can't seem to find the Airplay icon in System Preferences and Display.
Do i need to have the Apple tv connected in order for the Airplay to show up in Display?

System Preferences - "Displays" shows no options

Hello all,
I was wondering if anyone has encountered the following issue since upgrading to Leopard and whether you have pointers on how to fix it?
After upgrading to Leopard a week ago, System Preferences option "Displays" shows no selectable options. It comes up blank. I have installed the latest update to OS X (10.5.1) and this update has not resolved my issue.

I see you've not had any input on the "Displays" issue. I just upgraded my PowerBook G4 1.67 GHz, 2 GB Ram to Leopard 10.5.2. I even reinstalled the OS a couple times, which is a pain, but still didn't get any options. It says "loading displays" if I single click the preference. If I double click it shows a blank gray window. If you have resolved this problem please pass it on.

System Preferences - Display Preferences ---- not opening

In my Snow Leopard 10.6.5 under System Preferences only Display Preferences not loading. It is giving error "System Preferences cannot be opened because of a problem".
I tried resetting PRAM and NVRAM. Also is deleted the file com.apple.systempreferences.plist. Still it did not solve the issue.
Please let me know how i can solve the issue.

Get a bootable, external HD (preferably FireWire, since it's 40-50% faster than USB 2 and designed for data transfers), make a bootable backup/clone before updating/upgrading, and ensure that it's bootable and works like the original. Then have your corporate IT reinstall the image and use the Migration Assistant to restore all of your customizations. See these for details:

System Preferences - Display Frozen

When I attempt to change my display from System Preferences (wishing to stream different photos at 5 second intervals) the dreaded spinning ball immediately appears and System Preferences crashes after several minutes. I am left with one frozen picture which I've actually discarded to trash.

Ok, this cleared up for me. During the time that things weren't working I was transferring a file from my MBP to my Mini via WiFii. This caused many items related to video to hang: Screen Saver pref, Display Pref, and Front Row all had problems. Once the file transfer completed everything cleared up and started working normally.
What's really interesting is that when I did the transfer via a direct ethernet connection between the machines there was no problem: prefs loaded fine, etc., while the transfer was in progress.

System Preferences "Display" Pane not showing!!!

So recently went to check my system preferences because i was downloading a wallpaper i liked and i needed to see my iMac's dimensions. So when i went to system preferences the display pane wasnt there! its usually under "Hardware" but its not there. I've logged in in safe mode and everything, it wasnt there. I dont know what happened, the only thing i did recently was in Disk Utility, i repaired my disk permissions, but i dont think that could have done anything to my preferences.
Please help, how can i get my Display Pane back?

How many things do you see there? Mine has 30 items. The displays panel file is the oldest, which suggests that the best way to fix your problem is to reinstall OS X 10.6. You should be able to do that safely over the top of what's already on your Mac's drive, but I'd have a good backup anyway. After the installation finishes I'd apple the "combo" update for OS X 10.6.8 before you run anything else. Then use Software Update to apply any other missing updates.
Since you've already booted into "safe mode" I won't suggest that you run "verify disk" or "repair disk" operations.
