Two instances of sunMC 3.5 update 1 anyone?

Up to SunMC 3.0 it was possible to run two instances of esd process with 2 separate configuration directories by exporting ESDIR variable to point to alternative cfg directory and starting the agent with /etc/init.d/init.es_agent start. Each directory would have domain-config.x with different port and virtual host information to prevent conflicts.
Unfortunately it is no longer possible in 3.5update 1. The agent would not start. After analyzing the logs it's relatively easy to assume that modifying ESDIR variable has no effect on which configuration directory is being used. /var/adm/messages shows that port (161 for ex.) is still being in use and second agent's startup fails.
Sun response:
ESDIR variable acts differently in SunMC3.5update1 due to architectural differences comparing to previous version and is "hard coded" into a binary. This does not sound right, since no compilation is done during installation of the product. I am sure there are others who would support me that Sun lacks Management Center specialists with really deep knowledge of the product. Most of the answers and "action plans" are coordinated from publicly available to documentation and barely any help.
If anyone has any knowledge of "guts" of SunMC 3.5 update1 please help to accomplish above stated. This is very critical and very useful (with 3.0), since we recently migrated more than 300 hosts (agents) to latest version (35update1) as well as server layer. There is no way back. Running 3.0 on separate host to support such agents is not practical nor efficient.
Any ideas, workarounds, suggestions, criticism are welcome and greatly appreciated.

  • Problem with Javadoc gen'in two instances of a sourcefile in the class list

    Hallo,
I have a set of source files that I'm gen'ing with the ant task javadoc.
    sourcefiles="javadocs/PTConfigServer-root/src/com/palantir/config/util/SshUtils.java,

    javadocs/PTCommons-root/src/com/palantir/util/awt/Awt.java"
The first two gen properly with only one of each class showing up in the class list. Then, starting with the PTCommons files, javadoc lists each class twice in the class list. In the actual generated documentation, there is only one instance of the file.
    Has anyone seen this before?

Im having a problem with the variables.
Part of my original problem might be each pxi was in a different project. and i had two projects each its own IP. Using this method i did not know how use two differnt variables from two differnet pxi' s with the same program.
    if your still following.
    i tried a simpler way
i modified my project to include both ip addresses.
this way In my window environment my vi calls the variable. i made sure that i right clicked and chose the variables from the correct ip.
what i have is two status indicators and two update buttons.
the status tells me what stage the test is in
the update button is for the user at the end of the test he can update the screen with the results.
currently only my second pxi is updating status and also the update works
this is my windows vi alias file
    [My Computer]
    My Computer=localhost
    [S4000xH-System1]
    S4000xH-System1=192.168.110.10
    [S4000xH-System2]
    S4000xH-System2=192.168.110.3
do i need to bind to source or use the single writer. im going to try to undo the single writer seems like this would could onluy better it but doesnt seem like its for my application.
i forgot to mention that the varibles i use  were there listed as dependancies for the windows evirment have a blue question mark  but show what is wrong.
where i have the variables under the ip address there are no blue question marks

  • Two "instances" of RH 7?

When a project is open in RH and you select File/Open for a
separate project, RH closes the first one, no doubt for good
    reason.
Does anyone launch RH a second time and open a different
project, so you can look at them both? What about copy/paste from
    one to the other?
Can the two instances keep everything separate, or might one
project try to overwrite some temporary files open in the other? If
so, does the change "take"? Does RH crash?
(Reluctant to try without first touching base here.)
    Thanks
    Harvey

Peter, thank you for pointing me back to the forums from your website. You really are the RH guru, and as it turns out the forums aren't too difficult to search (we're new to them). You answered one of my questions this week (http://forums.adobe.com/message/2517232#2517232), that I believe was caused by having two instances of RH open. The missing .htt file error came from one project but the file referred to the other open project. I may have tried saving each too quickly so RH got confused. So opening two instances can cause an issue -- but my issue wasn't that hard to fix.
Thank you for your expertise and patience with all of us. You are wonderful-

  • Two Instances or Two Projects & Albums Trees?

I've just migrated 30K photos from iPhoto to Aperture. The number of projects is insane and I have a taxonomy in mind to clean it up; Aperture will make it simple to categorize my photos for visual scanning. What's a challenge, however, is the endless vertical scrolling and dragging multiple project selections up and down the Projects & Albums tree in order to move or consolidate projects into folders.
What I want is to either open two instances of Aperture (ok, I know I'm using a Mac and this shouldn't be necessary) or to open two Projects & Albums trees so I can drag and drop one or more projects from instance 1/tree 1 to instance 2/tree 2.
    Any ideas?

If Frank's good idea works, use it. I tried it that way and could not get it to work, but that might have been an update or two previous.
What I ended up doing was using a combination of
    - newly created top-level Folders as holding bins
    - labeling Projects with unique tags for searching (e.g: "{space}XXX")
    - judicious use of the Library search feature (search for " XXX"
    - using "Mark as Favorite" and then filtering to Favorites (then select and move, then select whole Library and "Remove from Favorites" to clear this grouping)
With a little bit of planning, these tools will let you organize your Library systematically and without too much senseless effort.
What I would love to see is an interaction between Projects View and the Library Inspector. One should be able to move Projects between Folders in the Projects view, and also by dragging to the Inspector.
Important: moving thousands of Projects is one of the most processor-intensive things you can dump on the database. Expect Aperture to take hours or even a day to finish updating all the information. +Do not force-quit Aperture+. Let it run, unmolested, until it finishes.
IME, the effort is well worth it. Good Luck.

  • Copying SDO_GEOMETRY between two instances

have two oracle instances on separate servers:
    Server 1 Oracle 10.2 Solaris
    Server 2 Oracle 9.2 Solaris
In each instance I have a Schema called GEO_DATA with a Table called ROADS. This is a very simple table; id (number), road_name(varchar2) and geometry (sdo_geometry)
The ROADS table in Server 1 will get updated during the day. What is the best way to move data from Server 1 to Server 2? Server 2 ROADS is just read-only and will be used for data viewing.
I am very new to Oracle Spatial – so apologies for the basic question:
Can I just create a database link between the two instances and then run a simple SQL query:
Insert into Server 2.GEO_DATA.ROADS Select * from Server 1.GEO_DATA.ROADS
    Feedback appreciated.

    Hello Ivan,
I just read this: Copy spatial data
I need to copy spatial data from a 8.1.6 (remote) to 8.1.7 (local). I tried the "CREATE DATABASE LINK" statement and got the error ORA-22804 (remote operations not permitted on object tables or user-defined type columns).
Is this still true in Oracle 9 and 10?

  • SunMC 3.5 Update 1b

Anyone install this yet? If so, what are your thoughts on it.
    http://www.sun.com/download/index.jsp?cat=Systems%20Administration&tab=3&subcat=Systems%20Management

    Hi mmoriaux,
I need to know if the SunMC 3.5 Update 1b agent is
supported by a server SUN V20Z (based on a AMD
Opteron processor) on a SOLARIS 10. I can't find this
information in any Sun documentation.SunMC 3.5.1a and later support any platform running Solaris 10 x86 (http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-1989/6n4ae1pqk?a=view), although you don't see any special modules for their hardware until 3.6 (and then only if you're running N1SM: http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/817-7958/6mn891ldq?a=view)
My problem is that the agent seems to be
well-installed, but when it's started, the ports 161,
162 etc. are not in the state "listening" on the
server.Agents don't use port 162, only 161 (the SunMC Server is a different matter) ... and even then on any recent version of Solaris port 161 is taken by another process out-of-the-box.
So, are you sure the Agent is running? The process will be called "esd - init agent" in a ps listing.
And are you sure it's trying to use port 161? You can look in it's configuration file (/var/opt/SUNWsymon/cfg/domain-config.x) in the "agent = { ... }" section for the port:
    agent = {
    snmpPort = "XXXX"

  • Two instances of Firefox open when I click on a link within my email client. How can I stop this from happening?

I am running on an iMac OS X 10.6.3 using Firefox 3.6.3 as my default browser and I use Postbox 1.1.5 as my email client. Anytime I click on a link within an email message two instances of Firefox open, one with my home page and one with the site the link was meant for. This happens only when Firefox is not already open. If Firefox is running and a link is clicked on it opens normally within the open instance of Firefox. I have contacted Postbox and am currently awaiting a response to see if they have any suggestions. While this is not a serious issue it is a bit annoying. I have Firefox set to open new links in tabs not new instances of windows, so it shouldn't be that. Any help in getting this to stop would be greatly appreciated.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== Not sure, it's been going on for quite awhile.

That is a bug on Mac.
See https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=531552 - Firefox 3.6b opens two windows when opening external links

If we observe test query is very simple and easy to back track but in Dev it is appending like sawwith0,sawwith1 etc..looking difficult.
Is there in any configuration to change to generate query like Test(with out SAWWITH0).
NOTE:Any how results are same in both instances.
Please help me to resolve this issue.
    Thank You,
    Anil Kumar.

    Anil,
Are your database settings the same in both of the rpds dev and test?
Check wether you didn't change anything to the default. Open your RDP double click on the Database in the physical layer and go to Feature you can check all the settings there

  • Distinguishing between two instances of the same portlet

    Hi Experts,
Is there a way to distinguish between two instance of the same portlet in different browser windows?
I'm looking for something like URL parameter passing, but just for portlets.
The problem is, I want a way to pass a parameter between views in a portlet, but in such a way that if another browser window is opened and navigated to that portlet page, the parameter won't be the same. Perhaps I can explain better with this example:
Page A has a portlet on it which has a textbox and 2 buttons - the first button stores the value in the textbox in the PortletRequest (or PortletURL) and if you click the second button the portlet navigates to a different view which displays the value. If I navigate with a second browser window to Page A, however, and only click the navigate button, that value which was stored by the first instance of the portlet will still be shown. I want them to be independent, I don't want changes in the one's PortletRequest to reflect in the other one's PortletRequest.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    JP

Why not use two instances of the same portlet, i.e. create two channels of the same portlet.
The behave the same, have the same application logic, so all you need is to transfer informations between the two portlets. If you want this within user space use the portlet session, otherwise access the http session context /application context and store the data there.
The behavior would be controlled by the portlet preferences, so channel a (instance 1) would be configured to run as controller and channel b (instance 2) would be configured as receiver.

  • How Can I create a cluster of two instances running on the same server?

    Hello,
I can't find how to create a cluster or even a failover rule for my two instances running on the same server ODSEE 11gR1.
    Could you please help?
    Thanks,

    Hello,
Clustering (intended as Sun Cluster, Veritas Cluster, etc... ) IS NOT SUPPORTED since 7.0:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E20295_01/pdf/821-1216.pdf [page 20]
and, based on my own experience, is the WORST way of achieving high availability of an LDAP Directory Service and an almost GRANTED way to get replication issues in your topology (lock, split, re-init, etc...).
Please use instead the 'application-level' clustering that you get out of the box with the Multi-Master Replication.

I have two printers on my network.  Does anyone know how to change the printer nomenclature - Officejet Pro 8600  (0B54AF) to a recognizable name...like Brad's Office when you use Airprint?

You would have to change that in the printer's settings on the printer, if that option is offered by the manufacturer. The iPhone just finds printers on the network and uses the name they have given themselves or that were given to them when they were set up.

    Hi,
You only have to consider 2 things :
    1. SAPTRANSHOST entry in hosts file will be the same for both systems
this mean that both systems will share the same transport directory
    Regards,
    Wojtek
This is not true.  Your SAPTRANSHOST will remain the same, but you can (and should) specify independent trans directories with the DIR_TRANS and and EPS profile parameters to designate where the instance trans files should be located (i.e. /usr/sap/trans_SID).  I recommend you make this change in the existing host first, and then clear out the trans directory.  Let the 2nd instance install into it and then alter that one too (thereby moving the files to the new /usr/sap/trans_SID2).

  • How do I install two instances on the same Server and avoid a conflict?

    Hi,
I have one Server and I want to install two instances of SQL Server on it.
    1. Will be a default instance.
    2. Will be a named instance.
The Server has an IP address of 192.168.0.10 and the default instance will be using port 1433.
I want them to share the same address, but be listening on different ports.
    Do I,
    1. Go into TCP/IP of the named instance and set the port numbers for all the IP's to a port number, e.g. 1976?
    2. Delete the 0 from the dynamic ports sections?
    3. Create an open port rule in the Windows Firewall to allow access to the Server?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Please see following Microsoft link
Configure SQL Server to listen on Specific port
Configure Windows firewall to allow SQL Server access

Open console in Applications>Utilities, check the system log for the date/time of the last Safari crash for clues.
