Two instances same name and diferent homes

Hi everyone,=
I already read this interesting post:
Creating two instances of same name in a single ORACLE_HOME ?
After reading it I have the following question:
Can this apply using the same ASM Instance but with diferent disk groups for each database?
I'm thinking in this following configuration:
ORACLE_HOME1 => 11.2.0.1
GRID_HOME1 => 11.2.0.1
DISK GROUP 1, DISK GROUP 2 for DB1 in ASM
ORACLE_HOME2 => 11.2.0.3
DISK GROUP 3, DISK GROUP 4 for DB1 in ASM
Both databases using the same ASM instance but diferent disk groups.
Could this be posible?
Thanks in advance!
johnxjean

Thanks Balazs Papp for your quick response.
In the scenario there is only one ASM instance and there are two databases DB1 and DB1 (same name) maybe I'am trying to upgrade or simply restoring with RMAN an old backup for DB1 from ORACLE_HOME1 in ORACLE_HOME2 with the same oracle version or later.
Now, in the original post unix can create processes for instances with the same name but with distinct ORACLE_HOMEs.
So, can ASM serve two databases with the same name, using the same ORACLE_SID but diferent ORACLE_HOMES? or Is this only posible using only filesystems?
Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
    Separate Apple ID's will result in separate notes. However when you first start with separate ID's unless one of you erases the notes you have, you will both start off with the same set of notes, but from then onwards each set won't sync with each other.

    Is it possible to search for multiple folders with the same name and then select them all and change the permissions on just those folders .i.e. Search for the budget folders in all client folders and lock them down to just the project managers. Without having to go to each folder and apply the permissions.

  • Changing a DC in Domain, with Same name and IP

    hey we have a domain with 3DC (srv1, DC Operation Master and GC ; srv2 DC and GC ; and srv3 only DC)
    srv3 is a file server with many shares like //srv3/folder/myfiles
    so i really want to keep the name and IP!!
    my plan is to degrade the srv3 to normal server and add to a workgroup.
    Delete it from ad under domain controllers. So my domain only works with my two domain controllers.
    Wait 1 or 2 Days. perhaps do a manuel replication ... so be clear tat the srv3 is really removed from the domain.
    And after all i would take my brand new Server give him same name and ip an add him to the domain. level him up to a dc and i hope all would be fine :)

    Greetings!
    Just demote the DC successfully (No Force Removal!)and check the replication between two domain controllers. If everything were in good condition you can use the same IP and Name in a new server. No need to wait for couple of days.
    Regards.

  • Windows 7 64 bit ability to print to two printers (same make and model)

    I have several Windows 7 64 bit PC's which just can't seem to print locally using USB to an HP Laserjet 1018 printer.  However, i could get all of the Windows 7 machines to successfully print to the HP 1018 when it was attached to an XP SP3 machine.
    I now believe, after 8 hours of frustration :-) , that when you have two printers, same manufacturer and same model, windows does not know what to do.  Note that I do not have a seperate unix print server and have not attempted printer pooling.
    So, the first issue I have is that I just can;t print locally to the 1018.  Might this be due to having the same Printer defined more than once with different names?
    WIth the above said, is there any way to define the same model printer so that I may print locally using my USB / printer cable attached to the machine I am using   AND, retain the option to print on the same printer model (different physical printer) when it is attached to the XP machine elsewhere in the house and is shared?
    I'm sure I'm missing obvious steps / facts ... hopefully someone can bring clarity to my issue.  I would think this to be simply but, it's anything but :-(

  • First 2012 R2 server in 2008 domain (same name and IP)

    Hi all,
    Think I know the answer to this but wanted to double-check. I'm installing a Windows 2012 R2 server. It is our first 2012 server in our 2008 R2 environment. It will also be our first 2012 DC. It will be replacing an old 2008 R2 DC and will have the same
    name and IP as the old 2008 server. I have several other DCs in place and they handle DHCP and DNS. The DHCP server service is not currently running on the old 2008 server to be decommissioned, and the DNS settings in DHCP server/scope options point to other
    servers than the server to be shut down.
    Plan is to demote the old 2008 R2 server, wait 24 hours for directory replication and check that all instances of the old server is gone from AD, then rename the old server and assign different IP address. At that point I'll assign the 2012 server the old
    server's original IP address and name, then run Server Manager to promote the 2012 server to a DC. Then migrate data.
    So, when running DCPROMO to demote the old 2008 server, I'm asked if I want to delete the DNS delegations pointing to this server. Should I? I tend to think I should NOT because the new 2012 server will have the same name and IP as the old one, and that
    the DHCP/DNS settings as configured point to other servers anyway. Does that make sense?
    Thanks in advance,

  • Migrate WSUS server from 2003x86 to 2008x64, new hardware, use same name and IP address?

    Searching through the WSUS forums and reading the TechNET migration documentation, I have bits and pieces of information to make this a smooth transition...I think. I have a plan in mind but
    would like the communities input on what I am thinking before moving forward and having it blowup in my face :). <o:p></o:p>
    I have the following currently:<o:p></o:p>
    A single WSUS 3.0 SP2 server, running on Server Win2003x86, using the default WID (susdb.mdf) on the same server. I have SQL 2005 Express installed on this server as well for other services
    but this has no bearing on the WID correct?<o:p></o:p>
    What I would like to do:<o:p></o:p>
    I have a new server (a much better one) that I would like to move WSUS on to, that will be running Server Win2008x64 (I have to setup first). <o:p></o:p>
    Steps that I would like to follow:<o:p></o:p>
    1. I will go through and setup this new server with all M$ updates etc... under a new name (ex. wsusnew) and DHCP acquired IP address and then power it down. <o:p></o:p>
    2. Get on my current WSUS server and backup all current WSUS settings, groups, DB etc... to a network location for temporary storage. Then power it down.<o:p></o:p>
    3. Delete the current WSUS server computer object in AD, DNS entry I will leave because my intension is to give the same IP address to the new WSUS server.<o:p></o:p>
    4. Start the new server, static assign the IP address from the old WSUS server to this new server and then change the name of (wsusnew) to the old servers name, which should be ok sense I deleted
    the AD object in step 3.<o:p></o:p>
    5. After the obvious restart, the new server will have the same name and IP address as the old server. <o:p></o:p>
    6. Now that the new server is up (with same settings name/IP as old server), I will then go through and install the WSUS role on the server and restore my WSUS information.<o:p></o:p>
    Questions:<o:p></o:p>
    1. Step 2 above, is it possible to do this, without making replica servers? I kept reading about this as I was researching doing this, I would rather just copy the DB and folders and simply
    put them in-place on the new server.<o:p></o:p>
    2. Step 6 above, restoring of the data, what is the proper way to do this in the scenarioI described? <o:p></o:p>
    Thank you to anyone who can provide me some information.
    Jeff

    Thank you for the reply, I will follow and let you know. Proabably be next week sometime before I'm able to try though. So look for a reponse then. Thank you again.
    Jeff
    OR...
    You can use the much more simple, much more reliable, and much more proven method of:
    Install new server as a replica of the old.
    Replicate.
    Configure new server as upstream server.
    Point clients to new server.
    Turn off old server after all clients have redirected to the new server.
    For everybody that has tried the backup/restore the database procedure described above, they have encounted complications of one form or another.
    WSUS has a built-in and fully supported comprehensive replication capbility. use it! :-)

  • Query parameters with the same name and different values

    According to HTTP, multiple query or post parameters with the
    same name and different values are permitted. They are transfered
    over the wire in the following format -
    name1=val1&name1=val2&name1=val3
    The problem is that I can't see anyway of assigning multiple
    parameters with the same name and different values to the request
    object of mx.rpc.http.HTTPService. I have tried using the
    flash.utils.Dictionary object as it does strict key comparison but
    that doesn't work too. I have tried setting an array of values to a
    property of the request object but that sends the request to the
    server in the following format -
    name1=val1,val2,val3
    The java servlet engines throw exceptions when they see this.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Two mail accounts with same name and SSL not allowed?!

    Dear Common Wisdom:
    I have two accounts in my Mail program with the same web host. That means the outgoing mail server has the same name.
    If I put on SSL, though, it is not allowed to save two servers with the same name in two different accounts.
    Can I get around this and still use SSL for both accounts?

    Each domain is expected to refer to its own unique database schema. Same SOA schema should not be shared by multiple SOA clusters/domains. It is technically possible though, I suppose, and still can run fine any one SOA environment at any given time with the other SOA environments/domains (sharing the same SOA schema) shutdown. It is not the general/recommended practice to share SOA schema across domains and there could be potential implications and unexpected behavior, particularly when the SOA environments pointing to the same schema are all running at a time.

  • When I log onto my macbook, my user account isn't showing up. All that shows up is a gray screen with only two boxes saying "Name" and "Password". How do I fix this?

    There was one time where my wi-fi wasn't connecting so I tried to turn it back on. A window popped up but I had alrdy clicked enter before I read it, but it said something like "...will change settings, is that okay...?" And then wi-fi still would not connect. So I tried restarting my computer, but when it turned on, my user account did not show up and all there was on the screen was two boxes that asked for name and password. I was the only person using my macbook so I never set up a password for it. Has anyone had this problem? How do I fix this?

    Since I'm not in front of your computer I can't tell what you see - I can only guess and give a hint. So once again, if the disk name on your Mac is "Macintosh HD", when you boot in Recovery Mode, and start up the Terminal in "Utilities" menu, and then type in the command:
        df -k
    you should see a list of "volumes" - one of which is named "/Volumes/Macintosh HD" (but yours could be anything) and in that folder there is another folder called "Users" and in that folder is the names of the home directories of the user accounts (and the names that you can enter into the login screen) that you are looking for. So if you are not familiar with using the Terminal you should say so and I can give more details. But assuming you're OK with typing in commands to theTerminal this is what I would try:
        ls -l /Volumes/Macintosh HD/Users
    and you should see something like the following (my disk name is "Yosemite" so I typed "ls -l /Volumes/Yosemite/Users")
    ML9Book:~ xxxx$ ls -l /Volumes/Yosemite/Users
    total 0
    drwxr-xr-x+  11 Guest      _guest   374 Oct 25 19:23 Guest
    drwxr-xr-x+  33 Jack       staff   1122 Oct 24 10:49 Jack
    drwxrwxrwt   13 root       wheel    442 Dec 27  2013 Shared
    drwxr-xr-x+  38 admin      staff   1292 Oct 25 16:59 admin
    drwxr-xr-x+  15 x13        staff    510 Oct 23 22:41 x13
    drwxr-xr-x+  12 514        staff    408 Oct 23 12:24 x14
    So now reboot your mac into normal mode - and you will see the login screen with the two empty boxes.
    So the above output tells me that there are 3 users - Jack, x13 and x14 (there is always a Shared user and there might or might not be a Guest user since it depends on how your setup was setup) - and these 3 are the names that I could try and enter into the login screen (in the top or first box). You can try no password, but I don't think you can create accounts without passwords, so this will likely fail. In that case you need to reboot in recovery mode and run the Terminal command again (from the Utilities menu) and do a resetpassword command. Another window will pop up and from there you select the Volume (in my case I selected the Yosemite volume - in your case you would select the "Macintosh HD" if that is what your volume name is). Then select the user account you want to reset the password from the drop-down list of user accounts (it will show you the long and short names, and the short name is what was in the listing above from the "ls -l" command), then enter the new password in the indicated box, and then enter it again in the next box, to make sure you didn't make a typo, and enter a password hint in the last box (optional). Then click the "Save" button and you will see another dialog box pop up telling you that the password was changed but not the Keychain password (hopefully you remember this one) - click the OK button then reboot back in normal mode (click on the Apple logo in the top left corner of the screen and click on Restart).

  • Backup DC past tombstone and need help replacing it with another DC with the same name and IP

    Hey Everyone
    We have a single domain in a forest with 2 DCs with AD integrated DNS configured. The primary DC with all the FSMO roles is a VM (Server 2008 R2) and the backup DC is a physical server (Server 2008 non-R2).
    The backup DC's hardware is very old and has been giving us a lot of issues where the system would intermittently BSOD, freeze, black screen only etc. and as a result, the server was turned off for a very long time, definitely beyond the default tombstone
    lifetime of either 60 or 180 days.
    We want to replace this bad backup DC with another physical server which became available as a spare and is much newer and in a working condition hardware wise. We also wish to ultimately give it the same name (FQDN) and IP to basically make it an outright
    replacement for the current bad backup DC.
    My questions are:
    1.) If we are in a position where the bad server could possibly physically boot and start the operating system and have network connectivity, will we be able to use DCPROMO as one would normally do to demote this DC, or will it have to be done forcefully,
    while keeping in mind as I said that the DC is way past the tombstone lifetime period?
    2.) If it has to be done forcefully, I am aware that the meta data needs to be cleaned up in AD on the working primary DC, although I have never performed such a process before. If this is done, are there any other things I need to look out for or do
    before I attempt to replace it with the other server which I will set up wit the same name (FQDN) and IP, then add to the domain, and then lastly promote as per normal using DCPROMO?
    I know we will have to upgrade the scema to 2012RM as the replacement backup DC will be running this newer operating system.
    Anything else you wish to add or point out to me would be highly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
    Regards,
    CTV

  • Dynamic proxy, several instances, same name, diff ids?

    I'm using a dynamic proxy with a simple invocation handler. Using the proxy for several instances of the target object should yield multiple instances of the proxy. In the debugger, each proxy instance is named $proxy0 with different ids. Can someone please elaborate on this? Specifically, the Proxy instance is created using the target object. Thus, how can each proxy instance have the same name, when different target objects (of the same type though) are used to construct the Proxy object? Is the Proxy instance the same regardless of the target object?
    I : interface
    T: target class
    pseudo thing:
    <code>
    T t1, t2, t3 ... new ...
    I i1 = (I) Proxy.newInst...(..., ..., t1)
    I i2 = (I) Proxy.newInst...(..., ..., t2)
    I i3 = (I) Proxy.newInst...(..., ..., t3)
    Each i has name $proxy0 with different id. For instance: i1-> $proxy0 id=68, i2 ->$proxy0 id= 32, etc.
    </code>
    Insight is appreciated!

    is it the same proxy that is instantiated three times (obviously)?It is the same proxy class that is instantiated three times. Obviously. Because that is the only meaning for 'instantiate' in Java.
    But how can that be when the target object for each Proxy instance is different?Because they are three different instances of the same class, each with a different target object.
    What's the problem here?
