Two ipads- one account or two?

We have an iPad2, and I just got an ipad3 for me. Should we have separate accounts? I don't want his apps on mine, and he doesnt mine on his.  Will one of us lose all the apps we paid for if we separate the accounts?

You will not lose the apps on the iPad that the apps were downloaded onto - in other words - whoever's Apple ID was used to purchase those apps will always be able to download those apps again for free.
If you set up a separate account for the other iPad - you will have to buy those apps again.
Like Ford Yuki - I have several iDevices - five actually - all using the same Apple ID and iTunes library - you don't even need separate libraries at all - and all 5 iDevices have their own unique content on them - and yet we can share the same apps on all 5 since we are using just one Apple ID.

  • Multiple iPads & One Account

I work at a school that is considering using iPads next year. If I have 40 of them, can I sync them all to the same iTunes account? I really don't want to track separate accounts for each.
This isn't intended to get around paying for apps, they cost what they cost. From an administration standpoint I want one account to update them all if it's possible.
    Thanks,
    Jeff

I found these two paragraphs in the link you provided which answered my question for the most part. I just need to read a bit more about "Program Facilitators".
"I’m at a K–12 institution, and we use carts to synchronize content from a single iTunes library to multiple devices used by students in the classroom. Can I use this method to distribute purchased apps to my students’ devices?
Yes, if your Program Facilitator agrees to terms and conditions when he or she signs up for the ASVPP. Apple agrees to permit you to use a single code to sync an app to multiple devices, up to the number of codes you have purchased (instead of having to redeem a separate code for each license), provided that you agree to the terms. You should verify the number of apps that the Program Facilitator purchased, and tell the Program Facilitator how many devices were synced with the app.
Can you give me an example of using a single code to sync an app to multiple devices?
For example, using this optional means of distribution, an institution with 100 devices could purchase 100 copies of an app and receive 100 app-specific codes and URLs. The institution could then distribute a smaller number of codes (for example, one code to each of five classrooms). These codes would be redeemed through the iTunes library of the computer used to synchronize the students’ devices. If each of the five classes has 20 devices, then, after syncing, 100 devices would each have the app even though only five of the app-specific codes are used. The remaining 95 codes may not be used but should be retained for accounting and audit purposes."

  • Two IPads one Account Problem with some apps

I have my Ipad2 and Ipad mini.  For some reason when I try to download my upgrades from the apps Wow and Master FX, to my new Ipad Mini, I am asked to repurchase.  I wrote to the Developer who said to uninstall and reinstall but no luck.  I have been able to get upgrades purchased from other apps but not these.  Any suggestions?

Did the first app download use the same Apple ID as what you are trying to use for the second app download?

  • Have two ipads one account, to facetime with wifes ipad i need to make a differant id the way i understand it,my ipad has a space for another contact but on hers it only has sign in and pass. do i cancel my id on hers and enter her own email

    on her ipad there is only my id and a space for password, do I cancel my id and put in her email , then and her email to my ipad where it says another contact, confused;

Apps are forever tied to the Apple ID under which they were purchased. If your friend wants to be able to manage apps on their device using their own Apple ID, they will need to delete all the apps purchased using your Apple ID and buy their own.
Hopefully, you just updated your own Apple ID with the new email and didn't make the mistake of creating a new Apple ID. If you created a new ID, stop using it now, don't buy anything using it and go back and update the ID under which you purchased your apps.

  • How to set up two iPads, different locations, one account.

How do I set up two iPads in two different States with one account.  My 89 year old father can not do the details of setting up an account but I want him to have apps and have even gifted him a bird guide.  Now it sits in his in box because we don't know how to download it without an account.

Obviously your father will not be able to sync with iTunes, but somehow I don't think that is going to be an issue.
You can set up the account on your iPad, or computer, whatever, and then have your father sign into your Apple ID on his iPad. Settings>Store>Sign in. He will need your ID and password in order to download apps or other paid content.
However, he does not - nor do you need to set up the account on his iPad. He just needs to sign in to the account.
This is not really ideal - separate ID's would be the way to go, but if you are essentially maintaining the device and springing for the apps - it will work - if you want to share an ID.

  • Two ipads one itunes account

Old story, heard many times before I'm sure...two ipads, one itunes account. How do I set it up so one ipad is not always syncing the other's data etc?

You select the exact content that you want to sync to each device. You can use one iTunes account with 6 iPads. You just have to set your sync preferences the way that you want them to be set for each device.
    Using apps as the example....
    Sync with iTunes.
Connect the iPad to the PC and launch iTunes.
Click on the iPad name on the left side under devices.
Click on the Apps Tab on the right.
Click on all of the apps that you want to sync.
Click on the Sync Apps Heading.
Click on Apply in the lower right corner of iTunes
You do the same thing in every tab in iTunes. Select the content that you want to sync to that particular iPad and iTunes will remember the configuration the next time that you sync.

  • Two accounts and home share or one account with two iPads?

I am in college and I have an iPad II but I am getting an iPad II for a course to use this semester. Should I set up another itunes acct or use the one I already have?

...my son-in-law who promptly set up a second admin account.
So if the first Admin account still exists (you can have more than one account with Admin priveleges) its password will still be valid. Also from within that first Admin account, you can delete the second account created by your son-in-law, if you wanted to do that.
Any software he installed should be in Applications and will still be accessible to all other accounts.
Also be aware you can reset your son-in-laws Admin password as outlined here.

That last option may be desirable.

  • HT204053 Is there a limit to the number of devices I can have on one account.  I have all two of my kids ipods, plus, mine, an ipad, and my iphone, and need to add one more.  I do this so that I have control over and can see what they are downloading.

Is there a limit to the number of devices I can have on one account.  I have been putting my kids' ipods on my account so that I can manage their downloads, and control it.  Then I just create playlists for them specifically.  Now, adding another one for my youngest, but have no idea if there are limits.

Well the part about putting songs in the "iTUnes Music" folder I only brought up because it seemed you liked things very organized. You could use iTunes to so all the organizeing. Plus once you add something to the iTUnes library, if you change ANYTHING about it in windows explorer, like its name, change the name of the folder its in or move it to another folder, iTUnes "Looses Track" of it. Its not like other programs that "Watch" files and folders for changes outside its "iTUnes Music" folder
But to have iTUnes auto search, you have to delete a hidden pref file. After doing this, when you open iTUnes again it will throw up a setup wizard, just like its the first time ever installing it. Its in this wizard where you get your ONLY chance to have iTUnes auto search and add files from the system. Just goto the link below and follow Scott P's steps

I have two separate itune accounts under two different email accounts and would like to combine them under one account.  Is this possible and if so, how do I do it?

If you go to Settings > iTunes & AppStore , you can sign out from your account, and sign in with the one you've used to purchase apps. This will not remove any apps you already have on it.
Then you can go to AppStore and download apps you've purchased (either via "Purchased" button in "Updates", or simply search for them and download them.
That way you can have multiple accounts' apps on your iPad. When updating, you will be prompted for the credentials for account you've purchased given App with.

  • Setting up two  iPod Touches on one account with gift cards for app and in-app purchases

I have multiple devices on one account - 2 iPod classics, one iPhone 3G and two recently acquired iPod Touches for my 8 year old boys.  They want to make in-app purchases (for Dragonville).  They each have their own gamecenter ID.  I want to set up each of them with gift cards for their purchases.  Is this possible?
If not, what is the recommended approach to manage all devices in one place while allowing individual devices to have a seperate payment mechanism?
    Thanks.

    I recommend that you
Create a NEW account/ID for her using these instructions. Make sure you follow the instructions. Many do not and if you do not you will not get the None option. You must use an email address that you have not used with Apple before. Make sure you specify a birthdate that results in being at least 13 years old

Use the new ID on her iPod but only for:
    Settings>Messages>Send and Receive
    Settings>FaceTime
    Settings>GameCenter
and Settings>iCloud if you want her to have separate Contacts Calendar and some other things.
Continue to use the same/common Apple ID for Settings>iTunes and App stores so you can share purchases.
To make sure you only sync the media yoo want, configure iTunes syncing so that only checked media is synced to the idevices.

  • I was setting up my Airport and thought the first set up did not go through, so I set up again and I ended up with two accounts instead of one.  How can I manage to have only one account now? Thanks for the help.

I was setting up my Airport and thought the first set up dod not go through, then I set up again and ended up with two wireless accounts.  I use it for the prointer and the iPad, and I can see both accounts in the iPad.  How do I get rid of one account?  Thanks for the help!

me.com accounts can be used for iCloud.  See the FAQ section in:
    <http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4895>
but it may be too late if you have already created a new AppleID.
A few years ago Apple said they were working on allowing account merging, but it never happened (maybe objections from copyright holders).

  • I have two iCloud accounts .mac and .me. My contacts are duplicated 2 and 3 times. I only want one account.

Somehow, I ended up with two iCloud accounts. A .mac and a .me. I only need one but can not make the .me the primeray one (it tells me that the email is already in use). Anyways, I also have my contact records duplicated 2 and 3 times. I went to the Apple store in Beijing (I'm in China now) and they did not seem to know much about iCloud. They told me that I have to erase my contacts on the iPhone and iPad and then manually erase the duplicates. Is there another way to do it? How can I set up iCloud so that I only have one account?

You can't delete an iCloud account.  You can, however, sign out of that account and just stop using it.  Then sign in to your second account on all devices account.

  • Two devices on one account! Help!!!

I have two devices on one (my) itunes account. I have my itouch and my sister's ipad. What I didn't realize at the time was that everytime I synced my itouch to my itunes, everything she bought would be transfered onto mine (which I didn't want) Now I want to get a seperate itunes account for my sister, but she wants everything to still be on her ipad (the stuff she bought on my itunes) I have no clue how to go about doing this. If it helps, I got a new itouch that i am waiting to sync on my itunes for the first time. Should I just get a new account for myself since I have a new itouch? Please help! Any information would be great

It will difficult to separate into two iTunes accounts. One of you will likely loose apps. What you could do to continue to use one account is launch iTunes and connect your device(s) to your Mac. Select your device from the left sidebar and navigate to the apps tab at the top of the window that opens. At the bottom of the list of apps you will see a checkbox labeled 'Automatically Sync New Apps' uncheck the checkbox. Sync or Apply the changes and then repeat this with your sister's device(s). iTunes will now only sync apps you download on your devices and same for hers unless you manually check one or more of the apps that the other party downloads using this same iTunes window. Just an idea to throw out there. I can walk you through the music and other sections if those are involved just let me know.

  • Can two people access WWF from an iPad, one way or the other?

I have downloaded Words with Friends on my iPad3, and I can play it via the WWF app icon, but if I try to access WWF via my Facebook page on the iPad, nothing happens.  The same is true for my wife; she cannot access WWF via her Facebook page on the iPad.  Nor can she access it via the WWF icon on the iPad.  However, we can both access WWF via our Facebook pages on our home and work Dell PCs.  Can we each access WWF on our iPad?  If so, how?

it would seem like you need to get two of the same app. This is why I never will get the paid WWF, because it's very glitchy and issues like this.
but anyway, it seems you could download the free version for the ipad and the free version for the iphone.
both will show up on your ipad, one for your account and one setup with her's
you could also, though I'm not recommending you give this company your money, could get the free iPad version and the paid ipad version.
in either case, it would appear that you can't easily switch between users like I previously thought.
