Two iPhone Family plan?

As an "early adaptor", I've had a new iPhone each year from day one and I plan to order the #4 next week. However, this time I'll be giving my wife my 3GS and bringing her over from Verizon, putting the 2 iPhones on a family plan. I've been to AT&T's website to learn how they work the Family Plan but as one would expect there is much fluff and little substantial information.
If you have experience with a 2 iPhone Family plan with AT&T could you let me know how they "share" minutes, text messaging and data? Any tricks or traps in getting the best deal?
Thanks, denny

OK, so the minutes are shared, the data plans are separate (we could each use the lowest $15 one) and texting could be separate or shared. That is about what I had thought.
One last question just occurred to me: Since I'm eligible for the discounted iPhone 4, I'll get the lower cost. If I were to get my wife an iPhone 4 also, could she also get the lower price - all assuming a new 2 year contract of course. I'll give AT&T a call next week to learn for certain as they should have the newest information by then, but I was curious if anyone knew.
Thanks, denny

  • Create two different iCloud accounts with 2 iPhones (family plan)?

How do I create two different iCloud accounts with 2 iPhones (family plan). Both phones are registered under my name, and when my wife set up her phone with iOS 5, it will only let her log in using my account. I thought it used your iTunes account info, is this not the case?  I really want her to have her own seperate account on her phone.
    --Brian

I resolved it by using our seperate apple ID's. Since we already had our own itunes accounts I canceled iCloud on her phone that was using my account and logged in with hers.  I did read somewhere where you can have multiple iCloud accounts under the same user ID but I'm not sure how that works because that is exactly how ours were set up initially and all the suddon all of her contacts and calendar items were on my phone and iPad and vica-versa . It was a pain to remove them one at a time after I broke the accoutns apart.  I know that doesn;t really answer your question, but that was my workaround. Of course that also mean no app sharing.

  • IPhone & Family Plan

Hello. I really need help here. I need to find out some information about prices.
    1. How much would it be with a family plan of 1400 shared minutes with one iPhone and two normal phones along with unlitmited texting for the iPhone?
How much monthly, though. Not at the start.
Also, I do not currently have AT&T, i'm switching so is there a difference in price there?
also how much is the average govenrment charges + surcharges?
    Thanks in advance!

    http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-phone-service/specials/iPhoneCenter.html
The 1400 FamilyTalk plan is $129.99/month.
It only includes 2 lines...one additional non-iPhone line is $9.99/month.
    Unlimited messaging is $19.99/month.
So that adds up to $159.97.
As for taxes and fees, those will vary by your location. You can get an estimate of what they will be by going to http://www.wireless.att.com/customerservice/additionalcharges and putting in your zip code.
If you are still in a contract with your current cellular provider they will charge you a fee for early termination of the contract. This fee is typically $175 - $200.

  • IPhone Family Plan Question?

I was wondering if I am a new AT&T wireless customer and I have 1 iPhone but I want to buy the $80 Family Talk Plan were do I choose that on iTunes?
The only one it could maybe be is the "Activate two or more iPhones on an Individual or Family Plan" But I only have 1 iPhone and I want my other line to be a normal AT&T phone. Any Suggestions?
    iMac bondie blue + PB 12' 1GHz + mac mini intel + MacBook 2.0GHz Black   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

But once you do that don't you pay $10 more because your an existing AT&T customer? so the plan comes out to $90 instead of $80

  • More questions about iphone family plan - second line regular phone

I am planning to switch from a verizon family plan(2 phones) to att family plan with 1 3g iphone and one regular phone.
I will get the iphone and my wife won't
what is the best free phone to get from att ?
and how can i do this in apple retail store? they don't sell other phones right?
don't want to go to att store because they usually out of stock of iphone...

I would say your best bet is to go to an apple store and buy your iphone. Apple stores do not carry any other AT&T phones, and AT&T stores do not have many free phones. Once you buy your phone register online with AT&T and add a line there, they have tons of free phones online and ship second day air.

  • Two iPhone family

I'd like to think that I am fairly knowledgeable of computers, but you guys seem to be much better:
My wife and I both have iPhones. We both have our phones synced to iTunes in our respective accounts in Windows XP. We both have our own iTunes accounts set up to bill each of our checking accounts (yes, we have separate accounts.)
Why can't we share downloads? How can iTunes be setup to import songs from my libraries to hers, and visa versa? Also, when it comes to pictures, what is the recommendation on where to store pictures on your computer? In our situation, pictures that I upload go to my Windows account (Documents and Settings\MyName\MyPictures\blahblahblah), from any photo program, and the same for my wife. Where should we have all of our photo programs put our photos so that iTunes will see all of them, from both of our Windows accounts?

As for having different itunes accounts on different logins on the computer is fine. However, the iphone can only sync music from one itunes at a time. If you sync the iphone with one store account, then login to the other account on the computer and connect the iphone you will get the warning that this iphone is synced with another library.
The ipods have a mode called manually manage that the iphone does not have. This allows you to sync music from more than one itunes.
If you want to add music from one login on the computer to another login, here is an article from the apple support website that might help out.

  • ATT family plan & two iPhones

    Hello
I have family plan with AT&T. I've bought iPhone right after world premiere. My girlfriend has different phone and her own number (obviously). Right now I would like to get new 3G iPhone (June-July). It's going to be connected with my girlfriends phone number. Later I would like to give my old iPhone to my girlfriend and transfer her number to my old iPhone, and I'll use new iPhone with my own phone number. Is it possible to "transfer" phone numbers between iPhones (without signing new contract with AT&T?

No one but Apple knows when the 3G iPhone will be released. It's not necessarily connected with the June firmware/app store release. All Apple has said is that it will be sometime in 2008 - that could be December for all we know.
As far as the number switching...I don't see why that wouldn't be possible. I would call AT&T. In any event, I don't see how switching numbers between phones would cause a contract renewal.
And why does your girlfriend get your old phone and YOU get the new one?

  • Iphone with existing unlimited texting family plan

Hi, I just got an iPhone today butt ATT has given me two different answers about my question:
I am on a family plan with 3 other family members. We have the 30 dollar unlimited text messaging that covers everyone. I was told by two people at ATT that if I picked the 20 dollar data pack for my iphone, even though it says I'll only get 200 sms texts a month, since we have unlimited texting on the family plan, the unlimited texting will override the 200 texts a month that the iphone offers.
I was also told by one person that this is not correct.. that the 20 dollars of 200 texts message will replace the unlimited texting (for only my line) that my family has.
ATT is closed right now so if anyone could give me some feedback asap I would be very happy! Thanks!

Yea, but isn't the data plan for the iPhone, iPhone specific. You know, so we can get our visual voicemail and things like that. I mean if it wasn't that way, then why would they make you have to buy it. If I'm wrong, then I'm wrong.
Ok, so you have unlimited testing for all the lines on your plan. Ok I got a little confused then, sorry about the date refrences.. I think though that what your saying about the number of texts will be correct. The rest of the lines on your plan will still have unlimited texts, but you'll be reduced to the 200 limit. You'll not have the Unlimited data as well, which is good if you surf the net a lot of the iPhone.

  • Two iPhone questions (existing customer and data plan)

Hello, I have two questions about the iPhone. I am on a family plan with At&t. I don't pay my bill. I want to keep it that way. Will I just be able to take my sim card out of my phone and put it in the iPhone since it's AT&T? Or do I use a new sim card and when activating it choose existing customer?
My second question is I am wondering if it is possible to use an iPhone without the data plan. I know I will be missing visual voicemail and edge but I don't care. Also, will this make me get a thousand dollar bill if I accidentally press safari and don't have a data plan? Thanks.

You can't use the SIM from your existing phone. You would use the new SIM and activate as an existing customer.

You have to get the data plan and for $20 it's worth it, not only is it unlimited data but includes 200 text messages. Without the data plan, you'll pay for every voicemail you access, every text message, any time you check weather/email/youtube/etc. In a nutshell, the data plan covers a lot more than just using Safari to browse the web.

  • Buying iPhone w/ family plan on AT

I am under family plan with one other person with contract that is way over two years already. I can get new iPhone 4 for 200 dollar with contract renewal but before I that I have a question. Since I'm the only one that has iPhone and other person doesn't, if I get iPhone now can the other person get another iPhone at 200, making it two iPhone under the family plan? Of course I'm aware of new data charge. I have unlimited data right now and i want to get iPhone 4 now until 'new iphone' comes out in the future and have other person get the new iPhone when available and switch so that I use new iPhone. Let me know if this is possible

"if I get iPhone now can the other person get another iPhone at 200,"
If they are eligible for upgrade pricing, then yes.
If they are not, then no.

  • Transfer unlimited data from My broken iphone 4 to an existing iphone 4s on my family plan that just has the 2gb shared data.

I have 5 phones on my family plan. One of which is an iphone 4 with the 30.00 unlimited data plan.  It broke.  So now I would like to switch that number to another phone on my plan, the iphone 4s.  The iphone 4s only has the 2gb shared data with the other 3 phones.  Will I lose the unlimited plan by switching iPhones?  I also am on the month to month contract with the original broken iphone 4 and I don't want to go into another 2 year deal with verizon right now. Thanks for any help.  There are soooooo many old comments about this but I can't seem to find any definitive ruling from verizon or otherwise.

Still hesitant on this...:/. I have all 5 lines active. Two are month to month contracts and that includes the iPhone 4 unlimited data and a Samsung note 2 with 2 fb data.  The other 3 lines have later contract end dates and are pay data as used.  All five share unlimited texts and 1400 minutes.  The iPhone 4 broken has not been used and I forwarded the calls to the iPhone 4S with the 2 fb data. So basically I have a dead phone with unlimited data...useless.
I am thinking of just canceling all 5 phones. (The bill is over 280.00 a month). And go to metropcs with the unlimited data with 4 lines at 100.00.
The only thing stopping me is the termination fee which. I am getting to the point of ...whatever.  Port i love you and miss you very much. Mom numbers that I want to keep and end verizon completely.
Another speedbump is the service I get here is exceptional.  No dropped calls..ever...a little slow.at times...but always available.
If I could just transfer the unlimited to the iphone4s I would stay but I can't see how to do it since all five lines are booked up and I can't get a sixth to do a transfer to.
    Any help.  Thanks.  I

  • How to upgrade a family plan with 2 new droid x phones and iphones on same plan?

I am having trouble figuring out a way to renew my family plan with droids X and iphones on the same contract.  I can do it at a Verizon store but the they charge 150 per droid x phone . There are on-line places that let me upgrade to a droid X for free but they do not sell apple iphones.  Any ideas? I need 4 phone two droid X and 2  iphones.  I know the iphone is 200 everywhere.

Whenever you upgrade, you DO NOT have to do it all at one time, nor all at one place,. Were in America, the freedom to choose your Upgrade time and place

  • Family Plan: 2 iPhones - 1 Computer

I'm just about ready to buy my 2 iPhones (for me and my girlfriend), and I'm going for the family plan, plus unlimited texting for the both of us, which would be an additional $30, if I'm correct.
What I'm thinking about now is the activation. If it helps to answering my question, I own a 2nd generation Mid-end MacBook, my girlfriend a 1st generation iMac 17-inch. We don't live together.
Okay, now my question is how the activation of two iPhones work through the Family Plan using one computer (my MacBook). I'm guessing I plug in both iPhones to my USB ports, occupying the only two that's there, and I just go through the whole process like normal? But, the thing is, how does the second iPhone get activated? I mean, will activating one iPhone with a Family Plan detect the other one that I have plugged in? Or do I have to activate them individually?
    o_0
I'm sorry if I'm not making any sense. It's hard for me to explain. I'm want to get through this activation thing w/o any issues whatsoever so I can just go ahead and use them immediately. I really don't want to have to go back to the Apple store or AT&T to sort this out.
    Thanks in advance.
    Harold

I think this is going to work OK, considering what I've read above. But if you'd indulge me so I could clarify my understanding of this.
I've had an iPhone for a couple of months now, and my son, who lives in another city, is getting his mom an iPhone for Mother's Day. I have the single-user AT&T plan, of course. If I understand the above correctly, in order to add the second iPhone to my account and change the account to a Family Plan, I would:
    • Dock the new iPhone to my computer, using my iTunes account.
    • At the appropriate prompt, select the option to add the new iPhone to an existing account.
    • Follow directions to convert that account to a Family Plan (according to whatever options I choose).
    • Let the iPhone activate, then check my AT&T Web page to make sure my wife's name appears as the primary user.
    Correct?
I'll also need to add the ability for her iPhone to make calls to The Philippines, but I assume I'll do that by later calling AT&T and requesting that service.

  • Two iPhone5s on plan, want 1 iPhone 5S - HELP

I have two iPhone 5s on a plan. One has a cracked screen. Both have some wear and tear to the bezels and backs. Both are 1 year into a 2 year contract with Verizon (family shared). My wife no longer needs hers as she got a smartphone from work. What is the most cost effective way to drop her data plan with Verizon (and get her something basic that does text/calls) and turn the two iPhone 5's into one iPhone 5S?

Talked to verizon. It looks like it will be no problem just to trade-in my two iphone 5's and pay full price for an iphone 5S. I will still be eligible to upgrade the iphone 5S when they come out with a bigger screened iphone next year (hopefully) since that's when i'll be eligible to ugprade. No fees for swapping the line to the iphone 5s and my wife's phone down to some $50 basic text/call phone from amazon. I'll save maybe $10/mo for not having a smartphone on my wife's line, not as much as I hoped.. but at least I'm not facing any cancellation fees or service fees for doing this.
Now the question is... do I pre-order on the 13th and will I be able to swap both iphone 5's in the apple store and use the credit to pick up my iphone 5S??
