Two iphones different accounts one itunes library?

My wife and I each have an iphone 4 each with its own apple account.  Can I sync both phones in itunes on a Windows PC using one itunes library.  We share the same media files.  Do I have to set up two Windows user accounts and two different libraries?
I also have an ipad which uses the same apple account as my iphone, and I am able to sync both devices using one itunes library and one Windowws account.

yes.
How will she access "my" iTunes library from her account?
you can authorize iTunes on her user account to play/use content purchased with your iTunes store account and vice versa.

  • Can two iphones sync to one itunes library?

I know the answer to the basic question is yes, as I'm doing that now.  But if we've both been sharing one itunes store account....
So when iCloud came out, it requires your own appleID.  So if both of us have a different ID, will we have trouble syncing on the same itunes mac?
ie,. will there have to be a "log in / log out" in the itunes store each and every time a sync occurs?

This article covers what you want to do: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1495
As long as the phones have different names you can set different sync settings for them in iTunes. However, if they have the same Apple ID for iCloud any iCloud content (mail, calendar, contacts, notes, reminders) will be duplicated. The way to deal with this is to have different iCloud accounts on each device, but use the same Apple ID for the iTunes & App Stores. This way you can share music and apps.

  • HT4972 Can you have two iPhones to the one iTunes account? I am overseas and using the old iPhone 4 here, but also have a current iPhone 5.

I have two iPhones, a 5 which I currently use and an old 4 which I use as a second phone as I am overseas. I have connected both to iTunes. Does this cause any problems have two phones on the one iTune account, as far as updates, etc goes?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
It won't cause any problem. Moreover, you will be able to share the purchases between both phones and have the same information by using iCloud, so you don't lose anything

  • Two user accounts, one iTunes library

    Hello,
trying to solve problem with sharing one itunes library on macbook pro (mid 2009) between two users. I moved all itunes folders to shared folder, open itunes on new account with alt key, choose library and seems to be working. However it isnt...on my account I did the same, worked sometimes. After a qwhile I recognized that i cant use both accounts simultaneously. Once I log in to new account and open itunes and then I just switch users (not logging off) and try to open itunes, the first picture warning appears...I include also pictures with sharing preferences which should be OK.
Any ideas how to solve this?
Once I log off from account, it starts working with other one. But wioth simple switching users, it doesnt work (or rarely:-/)

  • Two iphones, two user accounts, one iTunes library

    Hi there,
I am looking for a solution for the following problem:
I have an iPhone which is synced with the iTunes library, addressbook and calendar on my MacBook in my user account.
My girlfriend will soon have an iPhone, too. We would like to each have our own addressbook and calendar synced with our phones but share one (=my) iTunes library (music, apps, ...).
Activating her phone with my Apple-account wouldn't be a problem for her. Do I also have to create an user account on my Mac for her in order to have her own addressbook and calendar? How will she access "my" iTunes library from her account? Or if she uses my user account, how will she get her own addressbook?
Is there any practical solution for this (common?) problem?

  • Two iPhone's with one iTunes account?

    Hi,
Can someone tell me what will happen with my iTunes account assign to iPhone if I will give that iPhone away and buy new one. To be precise I am planning to buy new iPhone in June/July through O2 here in UK and give old one to my wife who is got Pay as You go SIM card from O2 as well, which work fine with my iPhone now (even data transfer but that cost £3/Mb at this moment!). I just wonder what will happen to all my Apps in my iTunes account when I will try sync these two iPhones then? I guess it’s not possible to share the same account between two iPhones. What are my options here?
    Thanks in advance.

There is nothing that prevents you from sharing or using the same iTunes account with more than one iPhone. If your wife has her own iTunes account, when syncing this iPhone with iTunes when she is logged in to her account will transfer her iTunes account to the iPhone for access with the iTunes store and app store on the iPhone.

  • Two accounts, one iTunes library

    I've got a B&W G3 with a gig of ram and a big drive. OS 10.2.8 installed.
I've set up two separate admin accounts for me and my wife, and got a bunch of music stored in the music folder on my account. Is there any way to set it up so that she can access the same music from within her account?
    Thanks

This is the iTunes for Mac forum.
You should be in iTunes for Windows.
Don't install iTunes for each iPod, It only needs to be installed once on the computer.
If you wan to use completely different libraries/music, create separate XP user accounts.

  • Two users on iMac, one iTunes library

My husband and I set up ourselves as separate users on our iMac.  We use the same Apple ID (his) for iTunes.
I was able to transfer our iTunes library from our old PC onto our iMac and into my user side, but my husband cannot see our iTunes library on his user side.
    1.  How do we share the iTunes library so that both users can see and use it?
    2.  If #1 is possible, will future purchases from iTunes show up in both user libraries?
    Thank you.

There's really no "good" way to have two accounts using the same physical library.  The only fully tranparent way would be to make two separate copies, and turn on auto-download on both (even this might have problems).  I assume you don't want to do this.
One kinda, sorta solution would be for you to leave your account logged in and turn on Home Sharing.  He would then be able to see all the content.  If you had auto download turned on, any purchases he made would be downloaded to your account, but would also be in his (although he could remove them).
    Otherwise...
    1.  Make sure your permissions are set so you husband can see your directory on the computer (let me know if you need instructions on how to do this).  From your husband's account, start iTunes and go to iTunes->Preferences->Advanced and DESELECT the "Copy files..." option. Then from the Finder, navigate from his account to yours- usually under Macintosh HD/Users/(your name).  Navigate down to Music and drag the iTunes subfolder into the  Library area of his iTunes.  Your entire library will now show up in his Library, but the files will remain physically in yours.
    2. There's no good way to do this.  If you purchase new music, he will have to drag it into his library for it to appear.

  • Using two Nike+ Nanos and one iTunes Library

    Hi,
I have a Nike+ account and a nano. I am considering buying my wife a Nike+ kit to go with her nano.
We share a single iTunes library.
Can we use two nanos with different Nike+ accounts from the same iTunes account? And both upload our runs to our own accounts without confusion?

You can always setup seperate accounts on your Mac for you & your wife & place the library in /Users/Shared/ as an alternative. However, as others have posted, the settings for Nike+ are per iPod.

  • Two iPhones synched to one iTunes

My wife last night decided she wanted an iPhone (I've had one since July) So we went and got one for her last night. We activated it without trouble and then I suggested she set up her contacts in Yahoo to sync them to the phone. After she put in as many as she had patience for last night (her business by nature means she will have a LOT of contacts) We synced her phone and set up her yahoo account in iTunes with her phone plugged in. After the sync, I checked the contact list (for the first time, this may have happened earlier) and all MY contacts AND her contacts were in her phone. My contacts were then also listed on her Yahoo account online. So we tested and deleted one and then sync'd her phone again, forcing it to overwrite the phone contacts. That worked as the deleted contact is gone. This morning she was checking out the calendar and it has copied my calendar into her phone. Is this normal for iTunes to assume you want both phones to be identical? It's not a big deal to clean up her phone of the things she doesn't need from my phone. She wants a lot of my contacts and most of my calendar entries are things we have planned together. But if it continues to do this going forward, we are both going to get frustrated fast! Thanks for any help!

The contacts seem to be staying separate between the 2 phones now. Mine uses my Yahoo account, hers uses her account. The calendar is a problem though. We deleted a weekly appointment from my calendar that was on her phone. When I plugged her phone in, it wants to replace information on the computer (delete 1 event) I have no options in iTunes to tell it to do anything different. It just says no compatible calendar software on this computer. So all it should do is backup whatever we do with out calendars on our phones (individually) I guess since it's just 1 repeating event I'll tell it to replace the computer information to test and see if it just copied my calendar to start hers and now has them separated. Any other ideas?
Update: I just plugged her phone in, let it over write the calendar, then plugged my phone in and sure enough, my event is gone. That's disappointing that it won't just automatically make the backup for each phone unique. If I had a calendar program I'd have some opportunity to do something to control it, but I don't. Now what?

  • Details needed for using two hard drives with one iTunes library

I posted this under the iTunes section but now that I think of it, it's more of an Apple TV question since I'm only concerned about how it affects my 2 ATVs.
I have a MacMini(G4) that acts as a media server for our 2 ATVs. I use one library on the Mini which has been using an external 750GB drive. However, I'm at nearly 95% capacity now and want to invest in another external drive and use both. So the question I posted on the iTunes section was...
"With far too much content in iTunes (mostly for the Apple TVs) and after reading numerous posts about using external hard drives with iTunes I'm convinced that using two external drives is my best solution.
However, I did want to understand a bit more about the details of how iTunes will manage or at least keep track of, the media. Specifically, I'm thinking of the case were I add a movie to iTunes library (of course it will not copy the file into the iTunes folder).
What will occur if I later change any of the tags for the movie (e.g., name, genre, year, etc.). Will iTunes update this information and then update the Apple TVs once they resync with the iTunes library?"
So for the very knowledgeable folks here on the ATV section, what exactly does iTunes do in this case? Will my genres be updated correctly if I change something even though the content is not copied to the iTunes folder?

If you want to use two external drives to store your itunes content, there are a couple of ways you could go about it.
You could choose to have just movies (for example) on one HDD and everything else on the other. You could further choose to have your itunes music folder on one HDD and have all content copied to it by default. When it comes to movies (in this example) you can place these on your second HDD and add them to itunes by using OPT-drag, which will temporarily disable itunes from copying the file to your itunes library.
You could also entirely disable disable itunes copying files to your itunes music folder from the itunes preferences and manually manage all your content.
Personally I'd just buy a 2 TB (for example) drive and ebay your old drive once you have moved everything from it to your new one.

  • Can I sync two iphones to the same itunes library

Trying to find out if I can sync my iphone4S and my husband's with the same itunes account. Is this possible? My phone was used initially to set up itunes; the pc recognizes his phone (serial number matches) by the sync fails.

You can sync multiple devices with a single iTunes library.

  • Two Windows User Accounts, One iTunes?

First, I've done and read everything Apple says ( http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1203 ) about setting up a single itunes account/library for multiple itunes users and it does not work. But maybe it's the way I import music to my itunes, so if anyone can help. I'd appreciate it.
I obviously have my computer set up with multiple users and my account is the administrator account and where itunes is currently working and full of music. I have installed itunes on another account and all I want to do is have that account be the same/mirror as the intunes under my account. However, what might be the issue is that I do not allow itunes to do anything for me, that means under the "advanced" tab in preferences, I deselected the options to allow iTunes to "keep itunes media folder organized" and "copy music to itunes." They are both inefficient and time consuming methods that result in disorganization and duplication of music, each of which requires more time than necessary to fix.
So, after moving the itunes media folder to a share folder as Apple states and point both itunes to that folder, the second user does not work.
Do I have to copy all mucis to itunes to get that to work? Is there something I am missing?

I posted the questions individually and got answers. Thank you Apple Discussion forums, and especially b noir.
