Two Iphones need two itunes accounts?

Plan on buying two iphones, one for me and the wife. Do we each need an itunes account? Why or why not? Is there an advantage to having different accounts? If I use my itunes account to activate both phones will it play song purchased with my account on both phones?

MacShadow,
Activation for the iPhone, and authorization to play iTunes Store content are two different things.
This page has the video tutorial on activation, and shows activating more than one phone on either individual or family plans:
http://www.apple.com/iphone/usingiphone/activation.html
This article discusses authorization, and mentions syncing to an unlimited number of iPods in the footnotes:

Hope this helps,

I have two iPhones on my iTunes account. How can I find out what apps go to which phone?

I don't believe that there is a way to do that.  I would sugest using automatic downloads to keep your apps synced across both phones.  You might also want to note that just about any app you have ever download will be available for free download via icloud.
Wish I could be more help.

  • Hi. We have two iphones and one Itunes account. How do back up each one without getting the others contacts

Hi. We have two iphones and one Itunes account. How do back up each one without getting the others contacts and without syncing each phone to each other?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
Ideally you should each have your own iCloud account, providing you with your own contacts, calendars etc, not doing so will result in exactly what you have experienced. The contacts have likely been lost due to the options you have chosen at the login stage on each device.
Unless you have the missing contacts in a backup file, they won't be recoverable unfortunately. You can add them manually to the contracts that already exist and continue to share the iCloud account if you wish, but I suggest that you each have your own iCloud account.
Note, you can each have your own iCloud account, but continue to share an iTunes account for purchases of apps, books, music, TV shows etc etc.

  • Easiest way to untangle two iPhones on one iTunes account

I blame myself for this problem.
My wife and I have two iPhones. I'm into the music so I set up an iTunes account a long time ago for my multiple iPods. It's now come time to disengage my wife's iPhone from my iTunes account. I know how to set up a new iTunes account. I'll get her a separate e-mail address and create the new iTunes account. The problem is I do not want to lose all her photos, contacts, etc., from her iPhone when I go to link her phone to her iTunes account.
I'm guessing if I set up the new iTunes account and then back up her phone to the new account's iCloud file I may be able to get around most of these issues.  Is that correct? Please advise if not. Any suggestions will be welcome. Thanks in advance for your advice.

Wife and I use same iTunes account (log in for iTunes) for our stuff.
We both sync with same computer.
However, we have separate logins for the computer thus we each have our own Profiles.
While you can do it with one profile (iTunes knows difference between phones) it will become a pain if you sync contacts/calendars as you only have one set on the computer thus you may end up mixing your data there. This is why you should have different logins for your computer thus.
Using one iTunes account does make things easier though as you only need to buy an app once and sync it to both devices (can do that with two accounts as well if both are authorized together in iTunes but becomes a pain).

  • How do I sync my two iPhones to my iTunes account? One is my old 3GS I am using as an iPod, and I want to transfer new music on my 5 to the 3GS.

When I got my new phone, I did the initial sync to my existing  iTunes profile. Now I'm afraid to sync the old phone (so I can get new music on it). Is there a way to sync two phones on the same iTunes account? Do I need to change the name of the old phone? And how do I do that if that's what I need to do?  I've had the old phone in airplane mode since I got the new one because I'm afraid it will sync to the cloud and mess up my new phone.
    Help! Thanks!!

Plug it in and sync it

  • Can you connect two iphones to one itunes account

  • Two iphones one computer/itunes account?

I have two iphones (first generation and 3g) and I am looking for details on how to connect and setup the phones to one account while still keeping our stuff separate. I really don't want to have two accounts.

The easiest way to sync specific contacts is select specific groups or folders form the contact manager, in iTunes. Each iPhone will have its own specific sync settings. More detailed information available here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1386
If you want, you can separate things a little more by creating an alternate iTunes library or user account. This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1495 was written for using multiple iPods with a single computer but it's the same general idea for iPhones, they are very similar.
You can sync multiple iPods and/or iPhone with the same iTunes account and library and each device has its own sync preferences with iTunes.
You can disable automatic syncing for each iPhone, or disable automatic syncing globally with iTunes when any iPod or iPhone is connected.
If both iPhones are syncing contact information with the same compatible address book, you won't be able to keep contact information separate. The sync process for contact information is a bidirectional or true sync process with the supported application on your computer.
If you want to keep contact info separate between the iPhones, create a user account on your computer for the 2nd iPhone for syncing contact information and/or calendar events only. The 2nd iPhone can sync iTunes content only with the current computer user account and iTunes library, and sync contact information and calendar events only with iTunes via the new computer user account.

  • Two iphones on one itunes account...problems galore..help wanted!!

My wife and I both have an iphone and are delighted with it except for this problem..
I bought mine first (phone 1), set up itunes and had no problems, it synced nicely, i downloaded music etc and ll was going well... the App store also work fantastically... my wife, based on my success (and the fact that her nokia N97 was pants) decided to get herself an iphone (phone 2). When signing up the contract in store we were told that "just, plug the phone into the laptop if you already have itunes and itunes will reognise it as a second device and act accordingly...." WRONG!!!
What actually happened was that the new phone, synced with itunes with all my details and lost all of my wifes phone numbers she had entered onto it, it got worse, after deleting all the numbers that she didnt want and putting her phone book back as she wanted it, she synced it again, this time itunes took the details from her phone and stored them in itself, next i came along and synced my phone and lost all my work numbers, all my music too and ended up with my wifes details.... Now when i access the App store i have to enter her password.. sometimes.. sometimes i have to enter my own and sometimes neither will work and i cannot download anything at all. Its all become one big mess...
I want an expert to untangle this mess for us as, at the moment i no longer sync my phone at all for fear of losing all the details again so of course im not getting the most from my phone. I phoned teh geek squad and they said... when you start itunes just hold down the CTRL button as you launch it and it will start a second account... it did but im sure that has added to the problem.
Im no itunes expert but need this sorted to enjoy the device the way it was intended...
    Please help...

Sorry things haven't worked the way you expected. You can sync as many devices as you want to the same itunes account, selecting under the various tabs what you want on each device and itunes will keep it all straight upon subsequent syncs. It appears you may not have properly selected what content you want on each device. To sort this out, start by reading this article on syncing. Most of your questions will be answered in that article. Post back after reading with specific questions related to specific content.

  • Two iPhones and one iTunes account`

Ok, my scenario. I have a single iTunes account on my Windows pc for both my wife and me. All of our music is on there. I had an iPhone and when I got the new iPhone4, I gave my wife my 3G iPhone. Here's what I want to do:
    * Have iTunes treat both phones separately. Meaning different contacts, different apps and different music/photo playlists.
    * Is this possible with a single iTunes account?
    * Can my wife have different apps installed on her phone than I have on mine and still be able to sync?
    * What about a different music playlist?
    * For contacts, since we both have a master contact list on the PC, can you chose WHICH contacts from that master list to put on each phone? For instance, she doesn't need my employee's home phone numbers in her contacts on her phone.
I think the iTunes sync feature stinks...wish they gave you more manual control over what is happening on your phone.

hi mate when you open itunes press shift button that will give you make new itunes all you have to do is click wich one you want

  • Two iphones sharing same itunes account... Help with contacts merging!!

    Hello all,
Well my hubby and I are loving our iPhones but I have a few questions.
I already had an iTunes account for my iPod way before we had our iPhones. Because of this we both share the same account.
Well where my concerns are is our contacts. I have sync our phones using the icloud and our contacts have merged. I have even tried to use 2 seperate itunes log ins but this doesn'e seem to work.
One phone is iphone 4 other 4s
    Can someone please help????

you can keep the same apple id for purchases like apps and music, but you need to create separate icloud accounts for contacts and so on. after you do this you may need to redo your contacts on each phone.

  • SYNCING RINGTONES ON TWO IPHONES ON SAME ITUNES ACCOUNT ?

i have been trying for ages me an the missus both have the iphone 3gs ios 4 operating system i have all the ringtones on my phone but when i go to transfer to her phone either one or none appear......
i have home sharing on.........as we all use the same account for our ipod touches an iphones even the shuffles....
but i CANNOT get itunes to or her phone for that matter to recognise that they are on the same account and all i want to do is share them with her..............
    any help pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
    i need you

Yes. She can just download it from her iPhone as if she were purchasing new and the iTunes Store will notify her that the app has already been purchased and allow her to download it again. If by "same iTunes account", you mean the same iTunes Store account, there shouldn't be any problems. Otherwise she'll have to sign into the iTunes Store using the account under which the app was purchased.
Alternatively, she can copy the app from your iTunes library to hers (if hers is separate) and sync from the computer.
    Regards.

  • Can I set up two IPhones to 1 Itunes account

Hi, my Missus has jsut got an iPhone (activated at the shop) I want to get her on my PC using my itunes account (I have an iphone)
Is this possible? I plugged hers in, logged in via my i Tunes loggin, and a page where I can change details appeared. Do I change those to hers, and will it affect my details on my phone?
    Cheers

    Yes.
There is no device limit for the number of iPods, iPhones, and iPads that can be synced with the same iTunes library and iTunes account on the same computer with the ability for each device to have its own sync preferences with iTunes kept separate from other devices.

  • How do I sink two iPhones to one itunes account

Is it possible to sink a 3G iPhone my wife now has and my older 2G iPhone to the same computer laptop using one itunes account. I would like to be able to put different applications on each iPhone. I did lose some notes thinking I could delete from my wife's 3G and keep on my older 2G.

Under the Applications tab for the iPhone sync preferences with iTunes for each iPhone, choose selected Applications. Select the applications in the window below that you want installed on the connected iPhone followed by a sync.
You can do the same with Music by using an iTunes playlist or playlists. You can create a primary iTunes playlist for the music that you want on your iPhone, and your wife can create a primary iTunes playlist that she wants on her iPhone. You can create and transfer multiple playlists if you like.
Under the Music tab for the iPhone sync preferences with iTunes for each iPhone, choose selected playlists. Select the playlist or playlists in the window below that you want transferred to your iPhone followed by a sync. Your wife will select the iTunes playlist of playlists that she wants transferred to her iPhone followed by a sync.
To remove add additional music to your iPhone, add the music to a designated playlist in iTunes that you have selected to be transferred to your iPhone followed by a sync. Your wife does the same with her iPhone. To remove a song from your iPhone, remove the song from the playlist in iTunes you have selected to be transferred to your iPhone followed by a sync, and your wife can do the same with the playlist in iTunes she has selected to be transferred to her iPhone followed by a sync.

  • Can i have two iphones on one itunes account

I have an iphone for personal and a new one for work. I want to have all the same information on both phones!! is th possibel?, and how do i do it?

Yes, you can sync as many devices as you want to the same iTunes account, there is no limit. You can have the same content on each device or different content, the choice is yours. iTunes will keep everything straight, by device, including separate backups.
