Two iPhones - Three Computers

Sorry for the long post here... but I am stumped.
I have two iPhones... one I just purchased this week and one that I have had for a couple of months. I also have two PC's at home and my company laptop.
I am having problems syncing my wife's iPhone to her PC... I can go back to my PC (BTW this is the iPhone that is a couple of months old) where the iPhone was setup and intialized for service and it syncs and backs up fine. On my wife's PC I can see her phone in iTunes... but go to sync and backup... it just flashes on the phone for a second and nothing happens. I have thought about doing a restore... but there are quiet a few contacts on the phone that I really don't want to chance loosing.
Issue two... I just noticed on my new iPhone that I purchased this week that I am experiencing the same thing on my (home) PC... the only difference is I can reboot the PC and it seems to take the sync... at least it shows in the sync records as being a good backup.
Are there limits to iTunes or the iPhone to the number of devices you can sync or backup.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. BTW... I have also removed and reinstalled iTunes on her PC and still have the same issue.
Thanks,
Ronnie

I understand your problem; my wife and I each have an iPhone and I do the syncing for both. I previously used a Windows machine for this, and had many problems, most due I suspect to using that particular flavor of Windows. I could sync under different user names but it was a hassle keeping two copies of iTunes up to date, since I buy and use most of the music and video and had to make choices for her iPhone based on what I thought she might like to listen to or watch. Now that I use a Mac the syncing process is much smoother.
As for the contacts, if you're using Windows, all your contacts...yours and your wifes'...are backed up in the Windows Address Book, whether you use the WAB or not. This can lead to some interesting scenarios if either of you have some contacts you want to keep private. Find the .wab file in your Windows folder and by backing that up, you will be backing up your contacts. By renaming the backup you should be able to do a restore if by chance you overwrite the file with a sloppy sync.

  • FlASH DRIVE RECOGNIZED BY TWO OF THREE COMPUTERS

Have a new Transcend flash drive.  I have three computers: 1 with Windows X and two with Windows 8.  The one with Windows X and one of the ones with Windows 8 (a notebook) recognizes the flash drive.  But the towers desktop with Windows 8
does not.  What to do?  (The computer that will not recognize this flash drive recognized everything else, including other flash drives.)

Answers to the questions by Olaf:  I tried other USB ports.  No different!  No, the SSD does not show up in the Device Manager or the Disk Management Console.  No, Windows does not attempt to install a driver! No, there is no security
    suite installed with that configuration!
I have decided that the best answer is to take the damn SSD and either throw it away or use it in other computers only, where it works just fine.   (PS. I bought two more SSD's on sale.  They, work just fine in all three computers.)
Final PS:  Thank you, Olaf.  And greetings to you from the United States.

  • I have three computers (Dell and HP) two I phones and I cannot get the iphones to sync with the computers.  I recently installed ITunes 11.0 on all computers and have no success getting iphones to sync since then.  The iphones are a 4 and a 3S

I have three computers, 1 dell and 2 hps.  I have downloaded the new 11.0 on all computers and now am unable to get my iphones to sync.  I also can't get the home sharing to work...shouldn't I be able to get all libraries from all computers on both phones...if they would download?  It tells be I have to delete the previous libraries to add the phone to a new computer.

If you no longer have the computer(s) you want to deauthorise,
Log in to iTunes,  go to "view your account info" on the itunes store,  deauthorise all five, (Please Note: this can only be done Once every 12 months)  and then re-authorize your current Computer(s) one at a time.

These are user-to-user forums, you are not talking to Apple here.
If it was an audiobook then they are one-time only downloads, to get it on your other devices you need to sync it to them and not re-download it oneach. You can try contacting iTunes support and see if they will refund or credit you for the second and third downloads : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

.....doesn't that seems to suggest the modem?
That is what I have suggested....twice now. From posts above:
My opinion would be that it is likely not the ISP, unless you have complete loss of Internet service for all devices at the same time......it is the Comtrend device....
    and
I believe that the problem lies with the modem, and not the ISP signal.
Your ISP will likely have a different opinion, though. Please keep us posted on your progress.

  • Three computers, two Outlook accounts, one Pearl 8110

Here is my situation:  I use Outlook 2007 at home with standard POP access to my Yahoo e-mail address.  I just started a new job with a company that has an enterprise server with wireless sync capability.  What I want to do is have my personal Outlook account at home be consistent with/sync with my business Outlook account at work, and have it consistent across three computers -- laptop at work, laptop at home, and desktop at home.  Currently, I don't use my BB for my personal e-mail (I inherited the phone from my previous job, and I'm too cheap to pay for the data package with my carrier), so the non-e-mail functions -- Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, Notes -- are the most critical to to me, but if it's possible to pick up my personal/home e-mails, also, that would be ideal.  I sync at home manually, both with my laptop and my desktop, and at work I'll use the wireless sync.  Is it possible to make all this work the way I envision it?  Thanks for your help.

Thanks.  Here's my problem though -- I'm more concerned about keeping my calendar and contacts and tasks and notes consistent across the three computers.  I'm set up for wireless sync at the office, but when I try to manually sync at home, it tells me that I can't sync without turning off wireless sync.  That's a pretty cumbersome process to do every day, you know?  Add to it that when I turn wireless sync back on, I get a message that says "changes made while wireless sync was turned off may be lost . . ."  Sort of defeats the purpose, doesn't it?

  • Sharing iTunes Match across two iPhones

I have two iPhones, currently signed in under two different Apple ID's (one for me, one for my wife).  I signed myself up for iTunes Match and enjoy having remote access to my iTunes library.  I'd like to enable my wife's phone to have the same Match access - is there a way to do this without just subscribing her Apple ID to iTunes Match as well?  Can I reset her phone and sign it in under my Apple ID as well?
I'm sure this question has been asked before, but a quick browse didn't turn it up for me.  Apologies.

what makes it tricky is the individual itunes accounts for apps.
regarding music, my recommendation is to put each computer on the same itunes account (keep the files, but link the computers to the same account)  when you activate match on each computer, the software will add the files from each respective computer and will create a master library (each computer will be able to see ALL files from all three computers.  Then, I would put each iphone on the same itunes account (everyone share the same account).
    as for apps:
I'm thinking I am reading right that the three iphones are linked to separate computers.  I am pretty sure that an itunes account on a laptop or desktop can be "authorized" by multiple accounts.  One beauty of itunes 10.5 is the ability to sync an iphone on one computer for "photos" and use the same iphone to sync to another computer for "apps" and another computer for "podcasts" etc (if anyone had any use for doing such a thing).  What I believe this would allow someone in your situation to do, is to essentially be able to log each child's iphone into one itunes account for itunes match, but then use each individual computer to still sync the children's different app accounts.  One child can sync to one computer for their apps and another child to another computer for their apps, etc.  The difference, however, is i'm pretty sure there is no getting around what to do about future bought apps.  they might all have to be bought on one account.  If that is truely the case, you may not be able to do separate itunes accounts.  In such a scenario, i would add everything to the itunes account that has the most apps, and begin shareing apps among them in order to share itunes match

  • A Tale of Two iPhones and One iTunes

So this little problem has plagued us for years... nearly three to be more precise.  We have two iPhones and one PC.  Wife syncs contacts with GMail and I sync contacts with Outlook.  Funny thing was that the tab for contact sync would not 'stick' with the phone... if I synced mine first, when I plugged hers in it would still be setup for Outlook.  Or if I changed it to Google for her and then plugged mine in it wouldn't remember my phone wanted Outlook and would sync with Google.  I gave up trying to get it working and setup a seperate profile on the PC for my wife that really was only used for her to sync her phone.  The only drawback we could see was we couldn't have a single repository for apps and I had to add music to libraries twice (one for each profile on the computer).
Well, now that we're on the 4S I thought I'd see if iTunes has evolved since 3 years ago when I gave up.  I uninstalled all Apple applications and loaded the latest iTunes.  The cool part of iOS 5 and the new iTunes is we don't have to connect phones any more   So now both phones show up at the same time.  I can toggle through all the tabs and see how they differ... different sets of applications are selected, different photo options, music options, etc.  EXCEPT the tab with contacts.  If I set her phone to google, my phone changes too.  I set mine back to Outlook and hers changes to Outlook.  We've mixed and matched contacts several times trying to get them to stay in tune and that is a huge PITA to clean up.
I tried the Genius bar.  The Genius answer was that we should probably do a restore on the phone.  I asked him to help me understand how restoring one phone would solve a problem that existed across 4 phones (two 3G's and two 4S's) and untold versions of iTunes over three years.  He just insisted that we probably need to do a restore on the 4S.  You know, because that would clearly explain the problem we also had on the 3G.  His backup plan was to call Apple support.
So before I submit a ticket to Apple, anyone else able to confirm this limitation?  I've checked with my friends and the ones that have iPhones don't sync their contacts anywhere.  iCloud will help but we use XP and the PC software requires Vista or better so for now we're still unable to sync our contacts to our PC.
    Thanks!
    david

On your wife's phone, when you said you've done a restore, was that a restore from backup or as a "new" device? I would suggest deleting the .ipsw file/files on your computer, connecting your wife's phone and restore as "new". When finished, DO NOT SYNC, rather eject the phone and test, verify that all is working correctly. If so, connect her phone & sync her content back.
The .ipsw file is located here, delete all you find, there should only be one:
    ~/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates
If this works, under preferences, devices, in itunes, delete her backups, as they are most likely corrupted.

  • After uploading our phones with the latest update, we have noticed that the battery life has deminished considerably.  I now have to charge my phone overnight and two or three times a day. Prior to the update, my battery life lasted me at least a full day

After uploading our phones with the latest update, we have noticed that the battery life has deminished considerably.  I now have to charge my phone overnight and two or three times a day. Prior to the update, my battery life lasted me at least a full day.  We have several phones in our office and the ones that have updated (4) now have issue holding a charge/battery life. I really liked this phone and can not believe that you are now going to charge us $79 a battery to fix what is most definately a problem with your latest update.  I know other people outside of our company that are having the same problem. Not to mention when I called AT&T it was confirmed to me that they are hearing the same issue and then some from other customers as well.  Your own people, once I talked to them earlier today, told me they are showing a history of issues that are showing up after the update was put in place. Of course she tried to say, "Maybe the age of the battery and the update both contributed".  Whatever.
I want you all to know how disappointed I am in your company for the handling of this issue.  I always thought "Apple" was the line I didn't have to worry about having any types of issue. And that you all would stand behined your product 100%. Now I am not so sure.
I would love to hear back from your company on how you perceive the issue with all of these phones that prior to the update didn't have any issues and how after the update THEY ARE NOW having issues.  I do not believe this was an issue due to the age of a battery and that was pretty lame to say so.  It was fine and now its not.
Please feel free to contact me and help me figure out a way to pay for all of the batteries that will be needed for our company to contiue doing business as needed.
    Thank you.

  • We have three computers in the house--2 crashed before I could deauthorize home sharing.  Now, with my new MacAir, the total computers in our household is 3 but home sharing will not allow me to add the other device.

We have three computers in the house (iMac, MacAir and the new MacAir I just received) in addition to 2 iPhones and 2 iPads.  2 Macbook Pros are no longer in use (both crashed before home sharing could be deauthorized) but now I have reached my maximum device allowance (5), even though only 2 computers are currently active.  How can I reset the authorized computer numbers?

You can de-authorize individual computers, but only by using those computers. Otherwise you can "deauthorize all" from your iTunes account.
    Open iTunes on a computer
From the Store menu, select "View my Account..."
Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
Under "Computer Authorizations" select "Deauthorize All".
Authorize each computer you still have, as you may require.
You may only do this once per year.
After you "deauthorize all" your authorized computers, authorize each one as required.

  • HT1420 I can't deauthorise my daughter's last computer from iTunes because it has crashed. We have three computers in the house but I can't authorise my new MacbookPro for iTunes or homesharing. So I can't even get my music from my old Macbook into my new

I can't deauthorise my daughter's last computer from iTunes because it has crashed. We have three computers in the house but I can't authorise my new MacbookPro for iTunes or homesharing because it says I have 5 computers authorised (I don't). I can't even get my music from the iTunes library on my old Macbook onto my new one, because it won't let me sync my iPhone 5 with my old Macbook, as I can't update the iTunes software. So I have a new MacbookPro and a new iPhone 5 and I can't get any of my music on either of them. I feel singularly depressed.

As you have more than 1 computer authorised then you should be able to log into your account on your computer's iTunes (Store > View My Account) and 'deauthorise all' (which you can do once every 12 months) and you can then authorise/reauthorise the computers that you still have and need : authorising and deauthorising.

We have two iphones and only one ipad - no mac.  We want to be able to use "find my iphone" for both phones.  How do we get the ipad to accept two iphone accounts?  icloud is enabled on all three devices.

Also, be aware of the following:
The "Find my..." function is pretty much useless if the device is in the hands of a thief.  All that is necessary is for the thief to connect to any computer with iTunes and "Restore as new."
The only real protection you have is with the personal information on the device rather than the physical device itself.  Something as small as an iPod/iPhone should have a strong 8-digit (or longer) password AND be configured for automatic wipe in the event of ten consecutive incorrect password entries.
