  • Want to have two iPhone's syncing to one iTunes account - possible?

I flip between the US and UK - I have a UK iPhone but am about to buy a US phone - I want them both to sync to one account so they replicate each other - can this be done

I can also state that yes you can do this as I have 2 iPhone's and an iPod touch synced to the same account. I've split the apps between the 3 to better manage my content i.e. (movies on one phone, games on the iPod, and music and podcasts only on my main phone.)

  • Hi. We have two iphones and one Itunes account. How do back up each one without getting the others contacts

Hi. We have two iphones and one Itunes account. How do back up each one without getting the others contacts and without syncing each phone to each other?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
Ideally you should each have your own iCloud account, providing you with your own contacts, calendars etc, not doing so will result in exactly what you have experienced. The contacts have likely been lost due to the options you have chosen at the login stage on each device.
Unless you have the missing contacts in a backup file, they won't be recoverable unfortunately. You can add them manually to the contracts that already exist and continue to share the iCloud account if you wish, but I suggest that you each have your own iCloud account.
Note, you can each have your own iCloud account, but continue to share an iTunes account for purchases of apps, books, music, TV shows etc etc.

  • We have two iPhones, one iMac, and one iTunes account. Can someone tell me an yeast way to manage each iPhone separately- that is -- when we connect each iPhone how do we keep our contacts separated? this is a real problem. Thanks

We have two iphones , one imac , and one itunes account. Hope someone can tell me an easy way to synch each iphone so that our contacts stay separate. I would like to share itunes music etc but not synch the same contacts to each phone...major problem... Thanks!

You have a few options which are detailed here:

Two separate iPhones got merged into one iTunes account. How can I separate them in iTunes???????. We are sharing all of each other's contacts at this time. Thanks for your help.

The reason you are receiving each other's text messages is because you are both using the same Apple ID for iMessage.  To prevent this you need to use different IDs.  (Note: you can still share the same ID for iTunes.)  On one of the phones, go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with a separate ID.
To migrate your 3GS to a new iCloud account, start by saving any photo stream photos that you want to keep on the phone to your camera roll.  To do this, open the my photo stream album, tap Edit, tap the photos, tap Share, tap Save to Camera Roll.  Next, if you have any notes that you are syncing with iCloud that you want to keep, you'll need to email these to yourself so they can be recreated after moving to the new account.
Once this is done, go to Settings>iCloud, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.  (This will only delete the account from this phone, not from iCloud.  The phone that will be keeping the account will not be effected by this.)  When prompted about what to do with the iCloud data, choose Keep On My iPhone.  Next, sign back in with a different Apple ID to create the new account, turn iCloud data syncing preferences and when prompted about merging with iCloud, choose Merge.  This will upload the data to the new account.
Finally, if you have merged data in the two accounts that you want to separate you will have to go to icloud.com from your computer, sign into each iCloud account separately and manually delete the data you don't want from each account.

    No.
One of you create a new AppleID and one use the existing AppleID.
But you can still use the items in each iTunes library.
Create separate computer logins for each of you.
This will give you each your own data. Contacts, calendars, photos, etc. (and your own iTunes library).

  • HT5616 I have multiple phones and iPads and all are linked to one iCloud account and one iTunes Account.  I want to keep the same iTunes Account so I can share music, etc., however, I want each device to have its own iCloud account.  How do I do this?

You'll need to create an Apple ID for each device. Use the new Apple ID for FaceTime, iMessage and iCloud on the device. Use the original Apple ID for Settings>iTunes & App Store.

  • How to set up icloud for family and one itunes account

I just got a new disk drive in my MACbook (now upgraded to Mountain Lion) so starting from scratch with itunes.   With 4 IOS devices in the family and only one itunes account, I would like to figure out how to backup every device to itunes.    I was able to save old itunes data on a jump drive, but did not have a Time Machine backup so I am literally starting from scratch and want to do it right.
I need to get data from IOS devices to itunes(via ICLOUD?)  before I hook up device to "new" disk drive on MAC.
I am scared I will loose the data on the devices when I hook them up to the new Mac.  Any help would be appreciated...
Can we each have separate Icloud IDs and still have one Apple ID we use for Itunes account?

"Can we each have separate Icloud IDs and still have one Apple ID we use for Itunes account?"
Yes, that's the suggested way of doing it.
As for starting from scratch - you need to decide which Apple ID to use for the mac.  If each member of the family uses the mac, then set up a seperate account for each and use the Apple ID (the one used for iCloud) to sign into icloud.  Use the common ID for itunes purchases.  I'd suggest first syncing devices to icloud to get whatever data is important (contacts, events, ...) saved.  When on the mac you connect to an iCloud account, the data (just synced from a device) will come down to the mac (for that account).
Tell us what "data" you want to get to the new Mac?

    Sync iPod/iPad/iPhone with two computers
Although it isn't possible to sync an Apple device with two different libraries it is possible to sync with the same logical library from multiple computers. Each library has an internal ID and when iTunes connects to your iPod/iPad/iPhone it compares the local ID with the one the device normally syncs with. If they are the same you can go ahead and sync...
I have my library cloned to a small 1Tb USB drive which I can take between home & work. At either location I use SyncToy 2.1 to update the local copy with the external drive. Mac users should be able to find similar tools. I can open either of the local libraries or the one on the external drive and update the media content of my iPhone. The slight exception is Photos which normally connects to a specific folder on a specific machine, although that can easily be remapped to the current library if you create a "Photos" folder inside the iTunes Media folder so that syncing the iTunes folders keeps this up to date as well. I periodically sweep my library for new files & orphans with iTunes Folder Watch just in case I make changes at one location but then overwrite the library with a newer copy from the other. Again Mac users should be able to find similar tools.
As long as your media is organised within an iTunes Music or Tunes Media folder, in turn held inside the main iTunes folder that has your library files (whether or not you let iTunes keep the media folder organised) each library can access items at the same relative path from the library folder so the library can be at different drives/paths on different machines. This solution ensures I always have adequate backups of my library and I can update my devices whenever I can connect to the same build of iTunes.
When working with an iPhone earlier builds of iTunes would remove any file not physically present in the local library, even if there was an entry for it, making manual management practically redundant on the iPhone. This behaviour has been changed but it will still only permit manual management with a library that has the correct internal ID. If you don't want to sync your library between machines on a regular basis just copy the iTunes Library.itl file from the current "home" machine to any other you want to use, then clean out the library entries and import the local content you have on that box.

  • Using iPads @ configurator in school with school AND personal iTunes accounts

    Hi all,
My kids school has introduced a managed ipad program which includes most parents purchasing the iPads but still having them managed by the school.
As we own these devices the kids take them home every day
iPads are ipad 3 and above
The school has setup configurator for mass deployments/ updates etc. and have the one iTunes account for all using vpp
With the initial deployment we were able to install our own personal apps using our own personal iTunes account to install and update ourselves.
There was no expectation that the school would manage these personally acquired accounts.
In the last week the school has removed the App Store front the iPads effectively removing any ability we have to install our own personal apps.
I have spoken with them and their stance is that it is too hard to manage updates because occasionally the iPads come back to the school logged in with the personal iTunes account
Can anyone out there please share any experience/solution that they may have which will allow the iPads to be managed through configurator whilst still allowing us to install our personal apps?
The school have said they will return our rights if a solution can be found.
I am very surprised that this is not possible and seek the assistance of the community.
    I am based in Australia
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Rob,
If the school is using Apple Configurator and have set the iPads to "Supervised" mode, it will prevent anyone from using their personal computers and iTunes to install apps or copy other data to/from the iPads to the personal computer. If the school has restricted the App Store on the iPad with a configuration profile, then they've made it impossible for you as a parent to install apps. (I'm surprised they did this being that these are personally owned iPads!)
In our school district, we are set up with a "Layered Ownership" model that allow us to buy and install apps that were purchased by the district, as well as allow the kids to do the same with their own personal Apple IDs. We don't have the App Store locked down on the iPads. The kids or parents can log in to the App Store on the iPads and install whatever they want. Even if they are logged in with their own personal Apple ID, we can still install apps that we as a district purchase using an MDM.
All of the app updates that we do for the apps that we have purchased are done though an MDM (mobile device management) server. There are many MDMs out there and perhaps your kid's school district could look in to using an MDM to manage their app distribution. There are a few different ways that MDMs have to distribute apps so your kid's school would want to talk to an MDM provider to see how they can help in your situation. We've been using an MDM in our school district for a year now and its been working great.
Here's a list of MDMs that you could send to your kid's school:

Hope this helps. Good luck to you!

  • IPhone 4s & iPhone4 using one iTune account via iCloud??

Hi, I have an iPhone4s and my wife has an iPhone4. I've just brought iMatch to convert my music to iCloud. Can both me and my wife use iCloud for the one iTunes account? My wifes phone seems to have the iCloud symbol next to each album but I don't on my phone. Any help would be great.

    Welcome to the Apple community.
Yes providing that both phones are logged into the same iTunes account, then they can both use iTunes match.
Check on your phone under settings> music, that iTunes match is turned on.

  • Managing 2 iPhones with iTunes and one iTunes account and computer...

    Hello All!
I already have a 16GB 3G iPhone and we're going to be getting another 3G for my wife (whether it is 8GB or 16GB is still to be decided). On my phone, I have about 13GB used, with the primary source being music. We intend the same iTunes account and there are no other devices using authorizations on this account.
*First, does Apple's licensing of applications allow the second phone using the same iTunes account to download all of the previously purchased applications for free?* In other words, will she be able to download any applications I purchased for free since I have unlimimted free downloads on my phone?
Second, and most importantly, I am wondering how iTunes manages two different iPhones on one computer. This will especially be an issue if she gets an 8GB iPhone since everything that is on my phone will not fit on an 8GB model. She doesn't want or need all of my music, so we could very easily not transfer all of the music. But, I'm just wondering how they will co-exist if they are different sizes and her phone might keep running out of room. If the iTunes software doesn't handle this situation well, we may buy a 16GB model just to make our lives easier. *If someone could provide me with information on how the iTunes software handles multiple phones (especially if they are of different capacities) or links to other websites with information on this topic I would really appreciate it.*
We need to make our purchase in the next month, so I want to know what we are getting into if she decides to get an 8GB model with me having a 16GB one. I just don't want to have a management nightmare. I'd appreciate any help in advance. Thanks!
    Jim

I currently have 2 iphones, 1 is a 2G 8GB, the other is a 3G 16GB. I use smart playlists on the 16GB and only sync those playlists. The 8G is set up to manually manage music per my sons request. It would be just as easy to have a playlist set up for him and have it sync only that playlist. So yes, you can absolutely have both on one computer. As far as applications, as long as you are syncing to the same computer/same account, it will allow you to place the app's on both machines. I don't know what the legality of that is, however.

  • Two iPhones and one iTunes account`

Ok, my scenario. I have a single iTunes account on my Windows pc for both my wife and me. All of our music is on there. I had an iPhone and when I got the new iPhone4, I gave my wife my 3G iPhone. Here's what I want to do:
    * Have iTunes treat both phones separately. Meaning different contacts, different apps and different music/photo playlists.
    * Is this possible with a single iTunes account?
    * Can my wife have different apps installed on her phone than I have on mine and still be able to sync?
    * What about a different music playlist?
    * For contacts, since we both have a master contact list on the PC, can you chose WHICH contacts from that master list to put on each phone? For instance, she doesn't need my employee's home phone numbers in her contacts on her phone.
I think the iTunes sync feature stinks...wish they gave you more manual control over what is happening on your phone.
