Two IPODS combined down to one

Hi All,
I have two IPODS and have ITunes on two separate computers.
I would like merge the two together and have one computer with the merged itunes and sync both my Ipods to that one combined playlist.
Is this possible?

There isn't a legal way of doing this. iPods were made so you couldn't transfer music back forth from iPod to iTunes, only to work vise versa.
But i believe if you turn your iPod to hard drive mode and plug it in. You can go to "My Computer" and see it as a external hard drive. You will also see a bunch of files with numbers and letters as the titles, those are actually your songs. What you should be able to do is take all those files and drag and drop them into iTunes and iTunes should be able to read them and code them back to the original titles.
If that doesn't work then you can always go through google and download a cracker to get the files from your iPod to your iTunes.

Two ipods for car, only one works.

I have a car CD player which I connect my ipod mini to using a USB cable. When I play the songs, it sounds as though only half the music is being played. It misses words, instruments and just sounds weird. My girlfriend has an identical ipod (bought 6 months apart, different colour though!) and her one plays perfectly. I have changed some songs to MP3 and WAV files but still no success. Why won't it play if my girlfriend's does? I have reset it, restored it and I am using the latest itunes.

Need help getting two ipods to work in one itunes library.

i have had my ipod now for awhile and it works fine. i recently got one for my boyfriend for his birthday to use when we work out together, but he doesnt have a computer. so i was wondering and hoping that he could just use the songs from my itunes library. so does anyone know how to get both ipods to sync from one itunes library? i would greatly appreciate the help!

Saving two iPod-compatible movies into one iPod-compatible movie?!?

This is baffling me...Why can't I simply take two iPod-compatible MP4 videos, paste them together, and SAVE it as a self-contained movie which is iPod-compatible?? QT Player 7.0.4 Pro forces you to save the self-contained movie as ".mov" and if you try to change the extension afterwards, QT Player refuses to open it. At any rate, it won't transfer to the iPod either. I realize I can always re-encode as an iPod compatible movie but that's pretty time-consuming (plus I worry about further compression reducing the quality unneccessarily)! Is there an easier way?

The video iPod can play the .mov file extension as long as the specs for it are not exceeded.
Your "pasted" .mp4 or .m4v files are just in a .mov container. No edits or changes to the codecs used. The two "joined" files should work just fine on the iPod (assuming they worked properly prior to joining them together).

Two iPod Shuffles 2G fried one after the other ...

Bought an iPod Shuffle 2G last week. It didn't seem to charge completely (no green LED after 4 hours charging) but otherwise I could read/write tracks to and fro. However, on connecting Sony MDR NC11A headphones the charge rapidly went down, the red LED went on, the iPod became very warm and subsequently died.
Back to the shop for another one. This one charged up to the green LED but fried in the same way. This time I got my money back.
On contacting Apple support by webchat, they told me that it is possible to use other headphones with the iPod Shuffle 2G.
Before ordering a third one, I want to be sure that the iPod Shuffle 2G works with other standard headphones. Are there other occurrences of this weird behavior especially with Sony MDR NC11A headphones? Thanks a lot for letting me know. - Jos

saying that you sometimes have to wait for the second
charge cycle before charge indications will be

Sure, in any case the red LED was very correct indicating a low charge only this happened after a couple of minutes with the second pod. The first one lived for appr. an hour before the red LED went on..
As for frying two in a row? You obviously have to
suspect the headphones, which could have been checked
by first using the Shuffle with the standard ones
provided with it. The fact that it works okay with
other things doesn't prove much at all, in my view;
among other differences, those other things don't
have multi-purpose mini plugs.
Forgot to mention, I used the original headphones just to make sure the pods worked OK. You could be right about the multi purpose plug. Also, the impedance of the NC11 is higher but that's the case with so many headphones even among these of Apple themself: eg the ones with the Shufflepod are 32 Ohm each, the 'new' ones with the earbuds are 16 Ohm.
I'd be working with Apple on this one, perhaps taking
the Sonys into a Store and having them try it out.
I'm sure they'd like to know if there is something
going on here.
Sure thing but I think Apple has to find out, not me. But I'm sure they will, it's just a hassle to bother the local Store and I can't work with the Mediamarkt, the non Apple store where I bought these as they probably don't know the difference between an iPod and a UFO.

Two ipod mini's on one computer

I have a ipod mini that I bought last year. My son plans to get one for a gift. How can we set up two different library file?
Has anyone had the same problem?

You don't have to do anything special. Just sync the new iPod to the Library. My husband and I use the same iTunes library - different Apple IDs, several different devices, no problems....

Syncing Two iPods/iTouch/iPhone on One Computer

Can iTunes sync on a single computer sync more than one device?
If I keep the old, deactivated iPhone as an iPod/iTouch, can I sync it one the same computer as my new iPhone 3GS? Will iTunes recognize that each has a unique sync protocol?

Although I'm not sure it's necessary, but it would be best if you gave each a unique name.
Ok, how do you give each a unique name?
I just got the 3gs and am giving the 3g to my wife. I got the 3gs working first and then I put her chip in the 3g, deleted the exchange email settings and most programs (leaving a few of the free programs I thought she might like). When I plugged the phone into the computer, iTunes started sycn (which I stopped immediately). I hunted for quite some time and couldn't see anyway to give this particular phone a new name.
What have I missed?

We have two iPod touch 2nd generations, one had to be restored a few days ago and is now not able to have some of the apps back on it saying that they are incompatible with the iPod. Is there any way to "copy" the apps from 1 to the other??

Is there any way to get an older version of the app that can be compatible or to "copy" the app from one iPod to the other?
Or maybe to update the opperating system??

you can by downloading iTunes to your computer/laptop but before plugging it in to the computer make sure all of your apps are on it then just sync the restored iPod to your computer and all of the apps on the computer will go to your iPod.. Good Luck

Two ipods in the house - one library took over!

My girlfriend and I both have ipods. I have a nano, she has a mini. Her mini had over 400 songs on it. My nano is brand new and only had 5. Today she plugged in her mini - everything is gone! She now has my music and all of her itunes are gone! Can we get back the songs or are they gone forever?

They are gone.
She doesn't have them in iTunes?
iTunes is a library. You add songs to it and leave them in iTunes so if want them, they are available.

Two ipods - one computer - Need help

I have had an ipod for a few months and my girlfriend just got one for Christmas. Neither have been registered. Now that she is trying to put songs on her ipod it is uploading all of the songs from mine onto hers. I don't know how to make it so that she has her own library without deleting all of my songs. Can two ipods be used on one computer? What should we do so that we can have two different libraries that won't interfere with the other? Is there a way to login to different itunes accounts on one computer instead of the same account opening through default when accessing itunes/library?

I have a Nano 2nd gen and recently purchased a 1GB shuffle. Using the link above I tried "method 3" to create a separate library. My problem is that when I clicked the advance button there was no general tab. Do I a newer version of itunes or something?

Two iPods, Two sets of ratings, one music folder?

Here’s something which I’ve been failing to do, and about which I and can’t find any appropriate info in any forums. It seems like a very obvious thing to want to do…
We have one computer and two iPods. Most of our Playlists are ratings-driven. Eg. “500 3+star tracks that haven’t been played this month”. My girlfriend rates music differently to me. I don’t want her ratings affecting my playlists and visa versa.
The only way (as far as I can tell) to have one file of music and two sets of ratings is to use two libraries. This is achieved by holding down shift when starting iTunes and then choosing whichever library you want before syncing the iPod. So far so good.
The problem is, whenever I add new music I can only add it into one library at a time; the other library knows nothing about it. The same applies if I delete anything (the other library thinks the files still exist). The only way around this is to add/delete twice, which is a faff. Podcasts need to be downloaded twice as well. Also, I think, if I add a CD of music and then go into the other library and try and add it again (or point iTunes to the new mp3 files) it will create duplicates. In any case, it’s a lot of messing about.
So, any ideas on how I can have one big music folder and two iPods with different ratings without doubling my iTunes ‘admin’ time?
Any advice would be graetfully appreciated.

Thanks very much for your reply, but it doesn't look like there's a suitable option for me at the moment. I only want one music folder and I want all music accessible to both users/iPods, just with independent ratings. There appears to be a number of ways of doing this but none without a lot of duplication of effort. I have 95Gb of music which is constantly being added to and deleted from as buy new music and remove duplicates etc. I put a fair amount of time into refining ratings and playlists in order to improve the quality of the stuff I listen to and I don't want to start making lists of the things I add/delete and then have to log into another iTunes session to repeat the exercise. It seems a shame that iTunes can't offer a practical solution to the notion that two people might have slightly (not completely) different tastes in music. I'm certain this sort of thing will have to be looked at in future, especially now there are plenty of iPod families out there.

On each of the phones you're gonna use a new Apple ID for iCloud: turn off Contacts, Calendars, etc. for iCloud. You'll be prompted to keep the data or delete it from the phone, then turn off iMessage, FaceTime & delete the iCloud account...Settings>iCloud...scroll down...delete account. Then, setup iCloud using the new Apple ID, turn on iMessage & Facetime.
This will have no affect on the ID you share for iTunes content, & you can continue to do so.

Thanks, Bob! You are correct. And, we learned this as we spoke with APPLE TECH SUPPORT by phone on Christmas day (800-APL-CARE). One of their reps spent the time to help us troubleshoot this, but the boiled down conclusion is your answer, and to repeat for the benefit of others, here is what worked:
1. With our Belkin router set to "out-of-the-box" WEP 64 bit security, we could not get wireless access of any kind. Only with the Security Mode set to DISABLED, could we gain access.
2. Changing the router's security mode setting to "WPA/WPA-2...." and entering a new min. 8 char passphrase, and then entering that same passphrase into the IPOD Touch, and restarting the router, did the trick!
Based on this, and some info found in another posting, I can only conclude that the IPODs and IPHONES do not support WEP security mode in many generic routers used by thousands of consumers. Hopefully, those same consumers can figure out how to change their wireless router setttings to WPA/WPA-2 security mode and ALSO get all their other wireless devices (PCs, laptops, WII boxes, ROKU boxes) all reconfigured to WPA mode, too.
I THINK THE BOTTOM LINE HERE IS THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE THAT APPLE NEEDS TO ADDRESS WITH WEP COMPATIBILITY and it may also be the case that MOST CONSUMERS ARE USING WEP 64 BIT security on their home wireless routers?
In any case, it's working now, so anyone who is having problems should try changing to WPA mode and post back here if it worked for them!
