Two Ipods on one machine

I have a third generation Ipod that I run on ITunes 6. I just bought a new fifth generation IPod and I can't set it up without downloading Itunes 7, which hasn't worked with my older IPod in the past. I've had to regress Itunes in order to get it working. How can I setup my new IPod?
dell   Windows XP

Yes, it's very easy.
Hook up each iPod to its own dock (or they can share one)
iTunes will list both iPods and you can select each one individually and make changes or update the songs/videos as you see fit.
I have used this configuration for a couple of years with no problems whatsoever.

  • 2 iPods on one machine

I have a Nano. My husband has a new Touch which we set up on our shared desktop (which wiped out my existing library). Is it possible to have two libraries on one machine??? as my Nano is now on my laptop, the shared desktop has died and my laptop has my stuff on it adn my hubby's laptop doesnt has USB2...?

Each ipod will sync independent of the other. I don't know what you mean by the ipod touch wiped out the nano's library. Connecting an ipod should not be altering the music library in any way.
Your best bet is to create one library with all your stuff in it. And then create one play list for each ipod. Then set the ipod up to only sync that play list. That way you and your husband can drag and drop and delete songs off the play list for your own ipod without messing with the main music library or the other ipod.

  • How do I manage two iPods on one computer please?

I have an iPod (early 40G model, and it's fine). I installed iTunes, and all fine. A year goes by. Another member of the household gets an iPod (mini), and we load the software into a different subdirectory in Program Files. This erases my iTunes, but all still works fine for some reason. i.e. when I attach my iPod, it is recognised, and my iTunes music is shown on the screen. When the other iPod is attached, same thing (i.e. it is recognised and her iTunes are shown on the screen). Our different music folders are stored in different subdirectories.
This is all fine, until her iPod erases itself, and is now no longer recognised by iTunes. In the processes advised for solving this situation (restore and reset etc) we erase my iPod (but have managed to restore music to if after re-installing the original software that came with it.)
So now we are back to the stage of having her iPod not being recognised by iTunes. Please suggest solutions! Please also advise if there is a more sensible way of managing two iPods on one PC. Is it really as basic as having different playlists?
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Yep. Playlists will do it.

Ok How can I share songs with two ipods on one computer!!! Help PLEASE !!!!!!!!!1

There are a couple of methods for using more than one iPod on a single computer. Have a look at the article linked below. Method one is to have two Windows accounts which by definition would give you two completely separate libraries. Method two is to set your preferences so each iPod is updated with only certain playlists within one library. Have a look anyway and see what you think and go for whichever you feel suits your needs best: How To Use Multiple iPods with One Computer

  • How to handle sessions with two severs on one machine?

    All,
I am having a problem with session cookies being overwritten when I host two apps on one machine running WebLogic 8.1 The apps are http://myserver:7300/app1 and http://myserver:7400/app2, and each runs in its own server.
Users will often access both apps at once, in two browser windows. If the windows are different threads in the same process, the sessions collide. For Internet Explorer, this isn't usually a problem since clicking on the shortcut multiple times launches different processes by default. Some browsers (Firefox, etc.) won't let you have two windows under different processes. Attempts to launch a second window 'detect' the existing process and appear to spawn a new thread. When this happens there appears to be no way for the users to use both apps at once.
I know this is happening because of the way session cookies are stored in the browser process' memory. The session cookies appear to me to be 'keyed' by the host name or ip address of the server. Does anyone know of a setting in WebLogic so that this 'key' includes the port or context root? Is this even something which can be controlled on the server side?
    Thanks for any help,
    Brian

Not quite sure what your intent is, but if you want to avoid a clash how
about giving each application a different default session cookie name.

    Hello Soo,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Yes you can. And there are several different methods for how to handle syncing two iPods to one computer. For the information and steps on how to handle these methods, I would check out this Apple support document.

  • Can you have two iPods for one computer?

I know nothing about iPods so please excuse me for this question that probably has an obvious answer. My sister has an iPod nano that she has been using with our computer for a long time. I just bought an iPod and was trying to set it up. So can I use her i tunes to put music on my ipod or how does it work? I am aware you are not supposed to steal music though. So what am I supposed to do?

Yes, you can use 2 iPod with 1 computer quite easily.

I am new to this. How do I use two ipods on one PC? I would like to have separate libraries. Help!
      Windows XP

If you are adding a second iPod for your own use, just connect the new iPod to your computer and follow the on screen instructions. It will update from your existing library. Depending on the size of your library and the type of iPod you choose you can have it update all songs and playlists, selected playlists only or you can manage it manually. There are links below to tutorials for all of these and for using multiple libraries.
If the iPods belong to different people, there are basically two ways of using multiple iPods on a computer and these involve:
    a) Sharing a single iTunes library and or user account or
    b) Creating multiple user accounts.
Note: When you are sharing an iTunes library, you don't have to set each iPod to update in the same manner, you can mix and match from the options below as each iPod has it's own update settings
Sharing a Library and/or User Account
If you want to share the one library, you can set either or all of the iPods so that they only get updated with only certain playlists (you can update from more than one if you wish):
Loading songs onto iPod automatically - Windows
Choosing the update option "Sync Music - Selected playlists" allows you to create a playlist specifically for the iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used some other time if you choose. You can read more about playlists at these links:
iTunes: Creating playlists of your favorite songs
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
Or you can choose to update any or all of the iPods manually and just drag whatever content you want to them: Managing content manually on iPod
Loading the iPod shuffle differs slightly but it can still be used with the others, for details have a look at this page:
Loading songs onto iPod shuffle - Windows
It's also possible to have multiple libraries in a single account. To create or access a second (or more) library, hold down the Option key (or Shift key in Windows) when launching iTunes 7. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to the other Library.
Note: You can only have one Library open at a time and iTunes will default to the last library opened if you don't use the keyboard command to choose one. This can prove tricky when using multiple iPods, if you don't use the keyboard command you can risk syncing to the wrong library:
    Using multiple iTunes libraries -Windows
    Separate User Accounts
Another option is to create a separate User account for each person on your PC or Mac. Different accounts by definition would give you completely separate libraries. Each account has it's own iTunes folder, Library and iTunes Music folder and you load it with CDs etc just as you did with your original one. The iPod can be set to update however the owner chooses, sync all, manual or sync specific playlists
I don't use Windows so I can't give you a step by step on that one, however I can point you to another web page which should help you out. You can read about Windows user accounts here:

How can I synchronize two iphones and two ipods on one MAC. My wife and i each have our own iPods and iPhones but share one MAC.

  • Two FQDN on one machine.

I am trying to consolidate services on to as few machines as possible. Since you can setup multiple IP addresses, is it possible to have two FQDNs on one machine? I want to use a server to host files on my private network but also provide a public website. I already have the entries in DNS. I just don’t know if I can have two FQDNs on the same machine. It is as simple as just adding the new address?

If you are just talking about web hosting for two fqdn, then add another site in ServerAdmin:Web
Apache suppport virtual hosts. You could have hundreds of FQDN running under a single IP address.
In your case, you don't even need two IPs, but you could use them- or at least use them transitionally until you modify DNS and then just use on public IP.
If you want to add a second IP to the machine, you duplicate the port in SystemPrefs:Network. Show Network Port Configurations, then duplicate the ethernet interface and give that interface it's new settings.

  • Two iPods and one DJ!

Hey - I hope someone here can help me!
I have two iPods (iTouch and 30g Classic) in my house both running off my current machine (HP Pavillion). The Classic is my girlfriend's and the 'touch is my own and they work off one iTunes account which is mine!
The problem I have though is that I just purchased a Samsung Q210 and I want to transfer the music from the HP onto the new machine and I want to use the new machine for updating the 'Touch and I am going to refurbish the HP so that my girlfriend can use it and let her run the Classic from it.
The problem is that I have to deauthorise the HP so I can use the 'touch from my new machine but if I do that my girlfriend won't be able to use the HP to run iTunes for her Classic!
Its pretty complicated and made more so by Apple! I can't find an answer to my problem anywhere and its driving me nuts! Can anyone help?
    Thanks
    T'Rez

My girlfriend doesn't have an iTunes account but I was going set one up for her so she can have her own music etc on the machine.
Fine. Just authorize the HP to her iTunes Store account, or set up the account directly from here system and it will automatically be authorized.
But I've purchased a good bit of music for her on my account. I don't upload it to the 'Touch but just to her Classic. But if I deauthorise the HP from my Account she's going to lose a bulk of that because of the DRM.
Then don't deauthorize the HP; there's no need to since, as I said, a single computer can be authorized to up to five iTunes Store accounts. If you're going to completely scrub the HP to start fresh, deauthorize it from your account, do the rebuild, then reauthorize it to your account as well as to hers.
Again, I don't think you have any worries.
