Two iPods One Computer with two hard drives

HELP! HELP! HELP!
I have a 20GB iPod set up on my computer using the computer's hard drive which is only 40GB.
I have just purchased a 60GB Video iPod and want to set it up with the program, a second iTunds and it's playlists on an 80GB external hard drive.
I copied the iPod program and iTunes over to the portable drive, but can't get my new iPod to be recognized. And, the iTunes on both locations shows my playlists for my original iPod. Each time I plug in the new iPod, it says there is no iPod connected. When I plug in my old iPod, it works fine.
I am not real good at setting things up and need as much detail as possible for getting this to work.
The goal is that I can choose which iPod to access and set up each play list separately. I want to have my music on my old iPod and use the new one for pictures, videos, etc.

You have to have an iOS device (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch) or Mac to create an iCloud account.  However, if you tell your friend to create a shared photo stream and turn on Public Website, he/she will then be able to send you a link that will allow you to view the photos on the internet using your web browser.  You would not be able to comment on the photos as this requires an iCloud account, but you would be able to view them.

  • I have a new Windows tablet computer with limited hard drive space, and cannot transfer my itunes library to the hard drive. Can I run t media from an external hard drive? If so, how do I transfer my files?

I have a new Windows tablet computer with limited hard drive space (32 GB), and cannot transfer my itunes library to the hard drive. Can I run itunes from an external hard drive? I have tried to follow some of the directions on this site, but am having no success. Thanks.

iTunes will run fine with the media on an external drive.
However, I suggest that a tablet computer with a tiny hard drive is not ideal as the primary computer for managing an iTunes library, even a small one. If you have another machine, perhaps a big, boxy, inexpensive old desktop with a decent amount of storage, that might be a better choice.

  • Can time machine back up a computer with multiply hard drives?

I have a MacPro with three hard drives in it. I have been very impressed with how Time Machine works on another iMac I have and want to try using Time Machine on the MacPro - BUT - I want to know if Time Machine could handle backing up three different hard drives, and, if so, in the unfortunate event that one of those three hard drives fails, could I get Time Machine to restore just that one drive and leave the other two untouched?
    Thanks - Rob

Yes, if the drive is large enough.

Also yes.  OSX drives are restored per #14 in the FAQ, other drives per #15 and/or #E3 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting

  • Share calendar on two Ipads (one Imac with two users)

    Hi community,
I'm looking for some help and where to look for if not here. Let me quickly describe my setup at home and what I try to achieve.
My partner and I have both their own iPad and iPhone. There is one iMac where we live. We are using it together but each of us has it's own user account on it and therefore it's own Itunes library. Both of us are using the iCal calendar on the iMac which we sync with our iPad and iPhone.
So there is one iMac with two users on it. Each user syncs his iCal with his iPad and his iPhone. What we would like to achieve though is that we can cross-share our iCal calendar. So that my partner can see my calendar items on her iPad and iPhone and vice versa.
We do not have a google mail (calendar) account nor are we using iCloud.
Every help is very much appreciated.

    Dear Dah,
I now have two iPads, which I also (need to) have separate AppleID's for. I understand I can share apps between them if I authorize iTunes on my iMac with both ID's, but I am not quite sure about the correct way to do that. I already have the iMac authorized for AppleID#1. If I go into iTunes and click on Store/Authorize this Computer... and enter my AppleID#2 information into Account name and Password boxes, does this authorize my iMac's iTunes for BOTH ID's or does it just change the authorization from ID#1 to ID#2?
If the former is correct, I understand the way to proceed is to xync up both iPads to iTunes and then I can drag and drop apps from one iPad's library listings to the other, right?
If this is not the correct way to get dual authorizations, what is?
    Thanks!

  • Help with two ipods, one computer please!

Right, my sister had an ipod mini already connected to the computer. I got an ipod mini for my birthday, the updated version, and wanted to use it. I read that it was okay to have two ipods on the same computer so i installed mine how it said. However, noe both ipods are on the same itunes which means sharing all our music. I now want to move my ipod to another user account on windows XP without damaging either ipod or the music.

  • Home Share on One Computer with Two User Accounts

We have one computer in our house with two user accounts. I have an iTunes account and my husband has his own. Due to many moved music files and whatnot, it is very annoying and difficult to try to find songs from his library to add to mine using the Add File (or Folder) to Library link in the iTunes file menu. I am unable to access some of the songs currently in my library because he moved some of his files and my iTunes can't locate them any longer. I was hoping Home Share would solve our problem, but can't get it to work. Is it hopeless for me because we technically only have one computer? Is there an easier way for me to add some of his songs to my library without searching through our five or six different iTunes library folders on multiple hard drives?
We have both enabled Home Share on our individual user accounts, but do not have the Home Share icon appearing in our iTunes side bar.
    Thanks for the help!

I was able to get the two iTunes home shares to work on the same machine and "see" each others library as long as I have them both open at the same time (for the Mac, using fast user switching made that very easy). Once the home sharing was working, playing music/movies/etc worked but when I tried to import / drag and drop from one account to the other it acts like it's doing it but then doesn't.
This may be perhaps unique to me because of my unusual setup, I set my "secondary" account to use the iTunes folder of the other, "primary", account to avoid having two copies of the same thing. Doing it this way meant I didn't have two copies of files on my computer, but it did mean I had to "Import to Library..." the media into the "secondary" account every I added something to the primary. I wonder if giving each account it's own library location would resolve this issue (while unfortunately meaning that the two accounts would each have a copy of all of the music/movies/etc, doubling my drive space usage). I'll update this post if I find out anything more.

  • Two ipods - one computer - Need help

I have had an ipod for a few months and my girlfriend just got one for Christmas. Neither have been registered. Now that she is trying to put songs on her ipod it is uploading all of the songs from mine onto hers. I don't know how to make it so that she has her own library without deleting all of my songs. Can two ipods be used on one computer? What should we do so that we can have two different libraries that won't interfere with the other? Is there a way to login to different itunes accounts on one computer instead of the same account opening through default when accessing itunes/library?

I have a Nano 2nd gen and recently purchased a 1GB shuffle. Using the link above I tried "method 3" to create a separate library. My problem is that when I clicked the advance button there was no general tab. Do I a newer version of itunes or something?

  • Backup one computer with two users

How do I use Time Machine to back up the data for two users on the same computer (The computer is used for both personal and for work)? I partitioned my external hard drive into 2 parts (one part for storage and one part for backup). Do I need to somehow divide the backup partition?

Time Machine backs up the whole computer, not individual users so you don't have to do anything.

  • ITunes 9.0 home sharing with one computer with two accounts

is it possible to use the home share option using only one computer that has two iTunes accounts on it? i used the same user account for both accounts as stated but can not access the files. any info is appreciated.

You can set up Home Sharing to copy media from iTunes on one computer to iTunes on another computer, you will need to log in with the same iTunes Store account on both machin. Have a look at this article for more info
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3819
If however you want to move the entire iTunes library from one machine to another, then using Home Sharing is not the most efficient way.

I have read the article about using two Ipods with one PC - and want to use the two user accounts as my husband already has a separate account on the pc. • Two iPods, One computer, Different Login accounts

Hi. I've had my iPod Mini for about two years now and my mother just bought one for herself. On our computer we use different login accounts which is basically just different settings. So iTunes has it's own library on each account and we can add songs to the different libraries.
But when we try and update my mother's iPod, we go to click 'Update iPod', but it is greyed out. Is there any way around this or can we only use one iPod on the whole computer, despite the different accounts.

    Check this out.
