Two ipods, one library

How do i load songs from my ipod into the library..The ipod has songs from another computer...i like them and i already have songs on my itunes library....i want to keep both if possible but the ones on the ipod for sure...i just want to add the songs from one ipod to the library so that i can add them to my other ipod

Hello mateo09,
There are a couple of methods for using more than one iPod on a single computer. Have a look at the article linked below. Method one is to have two Mac or Windows user accounts which by definition would give you two completely separate libraries. Method two is to set your preferences so each iPod is updated with only certain playlists within one library. Have a look anyway and see what you think and go for whichever you feel suits your needs best: How To Use Multiple iPods with One Computer
Just a point on posting, you should create a new thread when you are asking a question as you'll a) probably get it answered quicker and b) it avoids causing confusion when someone is trying to get the answer to a situation unrelated to yours.

  • How do I create separate playlists for two ipods/one library and them sync them?

I have an older classic ipod, my daughter has an older nano.  I got new laptop and have managed to sync my ipod and ipad with success, as well as move my library from old pc to new laptop.  Now I am trying to update and sync my daughter's ipod.  It says that it is synced but nothing changes.  I believe I had set up two different libraries on the old pc, and so certain cds had been copied into her library.  I can't find them in the earlier mentioned transfered library.  That's not a big deal, as I can just use those cds to add them back in later (more work though).  I've read older community posts on my issue, but any article links on how-to are too old, I guess.  I like the idea of using just one library and creating playlists for each ipod to sync to, but cannot figure out how to do this.  Also, do I need to restore my daughter's ipod to get the ball rolling?  She's taken a couple of videos she likes and I'm not sure I want to lose it in the restore.  Any advice greatly appreciated.

    Hey puckaluck8,
Thanks for the question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.

You mentioned syncing separate playlists, which is definitely a good method. The other option you may want to consider is called "Manually Syncing", which you can read about here:

  • Two ipods one problem

I have two ipods, one first and one second generation. The first generation model has been reset but now itunes won't see it but windows will. My second gen ipod works just fine. I have tried all the steps I could to get itunes to recognize the first gen. Any ideas. Thanks,

First of all, try another port on your computer. Some ports are not connected direct to the motherboard and do not recognize the iPod as well as those that are. Reset the iPod each time you connect it to another port.
Then try with the iPod in forced disk mode.

    Still no joy, see these.
iTunes 7 doesn't recognize the iPod.

  • I have two iPods, one from the fourth generation and another one that must be from the first generation iPod nano. Can I trade them both in?

I have two iPods, one IPod touch from the fourth generation and another one that must be from the first generation iPod nano. Can I trade them both in?
    The Fourth generation- 16GB
    First generation-4GB

Apple does not have a "trade in" program for iPods, other than the recycling program that gives you a 10% discount on a new iPod (at an Apple Retail Store).

There are some third-party (non-Apple) companies that provide compensation for old iPods.  You can also sell them yourself on eBay.

  • Two ipods - one computer - Need help

I have had an ipod for a few months and my girlfriend just got one for Christmas. Neither have been registered. Now that she is trying to put songs on her ipod it is uploading all of the songs from mine onto hers. I don't know how to make it so that she has her own library without deleting all of my songs. Can two ipods be used on one computer? What should we do so that we can have two different libraries that won't interfere with the other? Is there a way to login to different itunes accounts on one computer instead of the same account opening through default when accessing itunes/library?

I have a Nano 2nd gen and recently purchased a 1GB shuffle. Using the link above I tried "method 3" to create a separate library. My problem is that when I clicked the advance button there was no general tab. Do I a newer version of itunes or something?

  • 2 ipods, one library, different musical taste

I have 2 ipods, my wife has one and I have one. We have different taste in music, but I would like to share the same music library, which is on an external drive. Since our music library is huge, I don't want multiple copies of the songs. How can I setup, so that each of us sync different selections of music, but share the same library?

There are a few different ways to use two iPods with one computer, have a look at this help page for suggestions: How to use multiple iPods with one computer
If you want to share the one library, you can set either or all of the iPods so that they only get updated with only certain playlists (you can update from more than one if you wish): Loading songs onto iPod automatically - Windows
Choosing the update option "Sync Music - Selected playlists" allows you to create a playlist specifically for the iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used some other time if you choose. You can read more about playlists at these links:
iTunes: Creating playlists of your favorite songs

Or you can choose to update any or all of the iPods manually and just drag whatever content you want to them: Managing content manually on iPod

  • I've got two Ipods, one won't charge-HELP ME

Okay, I've got two Ipods here. Nothing too bad right? Alright, I have two Ipods for one computer. Now that may sound a little tricky but I don't know.
    Here's my problem.
I run two Ipods out of my Dell Laptop.
    Ipod type: Old Shuffle (2x)
    Okay here's the actual problem.
When I plug the Ipod that I set my Itunes to in, it charges and does everything it's supposed to to be a normally effiecient good playing Ipod Shuffle. Fun fun, right? Well here's where I'm lost. When I go to plug the other Ipod in that originally was set to the Itunes library of my old Laptop the Itunes for the other says "Would you like to replace all of the songs from your Ipod and reset them to the Library of the current logged-in user?". Naturally I'd say no. All I want is to charge one Ipod because all of the songs I want are already on it. But it refuses to charge unless I delete everything on it and set it to everything that is in the library.
What do I do? I don't want to lose all of the songs I have on one Ipod, but at the same time I want to still listen to it, but it refuses to charge unless I say okay to that stupid warning "your songs will be replaced" thingy. Help me out here. What can I do to correct this issue?

I have read the article about using two Ipods with one PC - and want to use the two user accounts as my husband already has a separate account on the pc. • 3 iPods, one library and seem to have lost most of my iTunes library

Here's the deal - 3 separate iPods, uneducated users, and (we think) one library. Most of the library now has the little ! beside each song however some songs are still on one of the iPods but can't be found in the library. I seriously need help. Any thoughts appreciated.

*Most of the library now has the little !*
That just means that iTunes can't locate the files. Have you perhaps moved, deleted or renamed a folder that contained the music you had in your library?
*however some songs are still on one of the iPods*
There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content only from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer

  • Multiple ipods one library

I may have posted this elsewhere in the wrong forum. but let me try it here in the right spot.
I have a nano and itunes. everything works great.
I'm getting a new touch in a week or so. I want to keep my nano as both a back up and something to carry when I go running, camping, fishing, etc.
Can I synch both the touch and the nano to my same itunes library?
I really don't want to have 2 copies of all my music but think I should be albe to synch both devices to my music.
Can I do it and if so how?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

You can sync as many ipods/iphones as you like to one library.

  • Two ID's, Two iPhones, One Library - Can they share Match?

My wife and I have different ID's on our iPhones, but share the same music library.  Can we use the same iTunes match account with both iPhones while still maintaining separate ID's?
I would even be willing to pay for two accounts, if I had to, but that doesn't seem like that's an option, either, with one library.
We are all figuring this out as we go, if anyone is trying to do what I'm doing, please let me know what solutions you have come up with.
    Thank you,
    Kevin

I can only assume based on what you have said in your post that you and your wife have seperate iCloud accounts but use the same iTunes ID for purchases.  If this is the case, then yes you can use iTunes Match for both phones based on the one library.  Clarify some of the details and I can hopefully help you further, especially the details of phone accounts.  Do you share the same iTunes Apple ID for making purchases (music, apps, etc.) and have separate iCloud accounts?
    I hope this helps.

  • 2 ipods one library i want to add song to both ipods

We have two ipods and one pc. I purchased a song and want it to be on both ipods. It was added to my ipod but it won't let me add it to my son's ipod.

It soungs hard if you do not know how, but actually it is very simple.
Connect and select iPhone in Mac's iTunes sidebar, in Music tab, select Sync Music and Selected playlist, artists, etc... Select the song you want then click the Sync button.

  • Help with two ipods, one computer please!

Right, my sister had an ipod mini already connected to the computer. I got an ipod mini for my birthday, the updated version, and wanted to use it. I read that it was okay to have two ipods on the same computer so i installed mine how it said. However, noe both ipods are on the same itunes which means sharing all our music. I now want to move my ipod to another user account on windows XP without damaging either ipod or the music.
