Two iTunes issues... will Match fix it?

Hi all, I'm hoping there is an easy fix to the problem I've encountered.... and that I can actually explain my problem clearly!
A coupe of weeks back I ripped a 3CD compilation album into iTunes, unfortunately iTunes didn't recognise the track information on one of the CD's, so I ripped all three and then moved the unknown tracks into the album with the rest of them.... except apparently I moved about 20 other albums into the compilation album as well!
This was annoying, but I was spending a bit of time each evening sorting it out and moving the extra albums back out to where they should be. When I look on my iPad and iPhone at the moment it shows some of the tracks moved back as they should be, but I still have more sorting out to do. It also shows that I have just under 9,000 tracks in the cloud.
Now, when I turned my laptop on the other day to rip another CD I'd bought, there were only around half a dozen albums or so showing in my library, these were basically all the albums I'd actually purchased from iTunes rather than ripped ones. Also, Match was now turned off in my newfound empty library.
I tried to find the correct files on my laptop to restore the library, but it's all a bit of a mess from bits I'd moved into a public folder so my wife could have iTunes in her login for the laptop etc. Anyway, it's a mess and I've only managed to restore around 8,300 tracks.
Now. To try and sort things and tidy up at the same time, could I delete iTunes and all traces of music from my laptop and then reinstall it, turn Match back on and download it all again so that I have them back on the laptops hardrive? I know I could just leave it all in the cloud, but I'm a bit of a Luddite and want to keep them physically saved on the hardrive of the laptop as well as in the cloud.
So if I do that, would I then be able to go back in and finish tidying up the albums that I'd previously messed up even though they would have been downloaded from iCloud? Then re-Match them again when they're all correct?
Sorry for going on a bit, but I'm a bit wary of deleting everything in case I can't get it all back again!

Michael, thanks for the response.
My laptop is running Windows Vista, so I'm assuming a Genius Bar appointment is out of
the question!
Hm, unfortunately, yes.
DeeDubYou wrote:
To simplify the issue then, lets say I have a new laptop, all of my music is in iCloud and I want to have a hard copy of it on my laptop. Can I install iTunes on the new laptop and download everything?
It is possible to do this, although it is not the best or more effective way to do it. Ideally you would transfer your personal data from an original computer or backup. That's not possible right now, though.
DeeDubYou wrote:
If I can, can I then amend track names etc. on the downloaded music and re-sync it to iCloud with the correct track info?
This won't be a problem. Any changes you make to the ID3 tags of music will automatically be propagated to the cloud. You don't have to anything but have an active internet connection.

And trust me, in future I will back up locally after every bout of new CD's that get added, and I will allow iTunes to manage all the files and how/where they are stored!
Sounds like a good plan.

  • Any idea when the delete (Saved) messages issue will be fixed?

We have a few iPhone 5's in the family and after a year they all have the emotional baggage of several GB's a piece of (Saved) messages.
Nick25's sermon does not appear to work as the latest version of iBackupBot will not allow one to actually delete things, just look at them.
This is not acceptable, and between unresolved issues like the lock button, the charging cable, and the like, the fruit is beginning to lose its appeal quite quickly. I love my 5 and my kids like theirs, but we're not talking about a trivial bug here.
Incidentally, I tried another iBackupBot clone and it too will not delete with the free version. The last one (ifunbox?) said it would but let's just say I did not get the warm fuzzies from that app.

Nope - no one here has any idea when Apple will do anything
You can request it via the iPhoto menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback command
As a wild guess I would expect the A77 support sooner rather than later since it appears to be a great camera (I have the a55 and love it) and Apple has always been pretty quick to support new Sony RAW

  • Is it safe to install the latest IOS 8.0.2? I did not install it yet, waiting for any update if the issues will be fix. I am using an ipad air

I would like to know if it is safe to install the latest IOS because I do not want to be face with any issues.

Neither I nor the iOS users I help to support have experienced any problems with iOS 8.0.2.
If iOS 8 offers nothing that you need then you can remain at iOS 7 instead.

  • Randomly when I plug my Iphone 4s into Itunes it will tell me that it can't detect my phone and that I need to restore it. It doesn't happen every time, but maybe every two weeks.

Randomly when I plug my Iphone 4s into Itunes it will tell me that it can't detect my phone and that I need to restore it. It doesn't happen every time, but maybe every two weeks.I restore it and then it works for a while, but then a couple weeks later I'll plug it in and I get the same message again. It's very frustrating because even though I have all the settings to save to cloud, my apps and data don't all come back.

Thank you both. I suppose I should have prefaced my question with the concern that I've read a number of other posts from people who have had a similar issue and when they tried to follow the directions, they ran into a multitude of other problems. As you might imagine, I'm hoping to avoid the creation of new problems as I try to solve this one. Thanks again.

  • Itunes Match: iTunes will match songs in library, will not upload songs not in library. It

Itunes match is going through the endless 3 step cycle for several days now. It will match songs that are in the Itunes Library, it will not upload any songs that are not "matched"
I have tried alot of solutions, turn off match, turn back on, deauthorize, authorize, reboot, exit itunes, delete songs, add songs, turn off auto renew, plug in ethernet, wifi, basically anything posted on here.
Anyones help would be greatly appreciated. Ive been an Apple customer for decades, and this is one of the times where I am greatly disappointed. Thanks.

Yes, itunes just sets a pointer to the Windows files in its ITL database.http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1660
If you have itunes preference to copy files to your itunes music folder, then it does copy them there and you might now have two copies of the same song. But itunes will probably be using the copy in the itunes music folder.

Does any one know news whether issues will be really fixed or should i stay on version 7 only?  Can appl,e has any plan to migrate their Ipad 2 customers to use or take new Ipad with some exchange offers ?

Ipad Air dead after installing IOS 8.0.2
I have just downloaded and installed this version of IOS on my Ipad Air and it is DEAD.
    It won't start up.
When I connect my Ipad to my MacbookPro, Itunes tells me the following:
"iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes."
What now? restore? try to remove 8.0.2?
    what a misery!!

  • HT4914 My music is stored on an external hard drive. All music that I buy, whether from itunes or some other provider, automatically gets loaded onto my external drive. There is some music on my computer drive as well. Will match work in this circumstance

My music is stored on an external hard drive. All music that I buy, whether from itunes or some other provider, automatically gets loaded onto my external drive. There is some music on my computer drive as well. Will match work in this circumstance?

I followed all the instructions for consolidating my music into one folder on my external hard drive. (I'm struggling with this because my ext HD was renamed when I synched my iPod shuffle last night. The "E:" drive has now become the "F:" drive and all my songs have those dreaded exclamation points next to them. Exploring my computer, I found "My music" folders in two place on my C: drive and one place on my external hard drive... and the song list in each place is different.
    Argh.
So... following the directions in the article reference here, I attempted to consolidate all of my songs into one folder on my external hard drive.
But.. I checked the song list when the "consolidation" was complete... and MANY songs are missing. They're still on the C: drive, but don't appear to have been copied to the new folder on the ext HD.
    I would appreciate any suggestions.
    Thanks so much!
Edit: I tried to reassign the ext. HD a permanent letter, but my Control panel does not appear to offer the option of Administrative tools. Is there an easy way to get to this, as this seems to be the root of the problem?
    Thanks.

    1. Double-click the Home button to close all Inactive Apps in Task Bar
    2. Hold the Apps in Task Bar down for a second or two until you see the minus sign
    3. Tap the minus sign to close App
    4. Tap center of screen to return to Home Screen

  • Will I have problems with two iTunes Accounts?

When I first bought my Mac, I didn’t have MobileMe, and therefore I used my Comcast email address in order to set up my iTunes account. I purchased several Apps, music, and iBooks under my Comcast account, however, since purchasing MobileMe, I have kept myself signed into iTunes under my MobileMe Account, and have made all purchases using my Mobileme iTunes account. Unfortunately, I know this means that I have two iTunes accounts.
For mail, I solely use MobileMe, and any email I get from Comcast, is forwarded to my MobileMe Account. When I get “App Updates” available on my iOS devices (iPhone 4S and iPad2), the “pop up” (which requires I enter my password to allow the download to begin) will be associated with either my Comcast email address, or my MobileMe address (depending upon which account I purchased the App, Music, or Book under). I do use only one single computer for backing up however.
While this hasn’t created any problems using an iTunes hard or wireless sync, I didn’t know if I will have any difficulties once migrating over to iCloud. I’m hopeful that everything works as it has. I don’t have a family account, all purchases under the Comcast and MobileMe addresses currently live locally on my iMac that I use for syncing.
Just wanted to check with you all before I migrate to iCloud, as I didn’t want to lose any of my Apps, Music or Books, nor do I want to have difficulties with App updates (e.g. problems migrating purchases to iCloud that were originally bought under my Comcast Account, or problems updating Apps when updates are available that were originally purchased under my Comcast Account).
Thanks you in advance for any input!
    Best,
    iDan
PS: I recently updates to iOS 5, and 10.7.2!

My personal experience has been no issues with either browser, including using a secure webmail account access.  If others have reported issues, I really can't comment since I haven't had any.  I have used my systems extensively in Paris and Zurich, especially at the technical university in Zurich and been satisfied with my access.
Of course, if you have more than one browser installed you can easily switch between them if problems do arise...a lot to be said for options

  • When will you fix battery issues on ios 5.1.1? I have the same settings but 85% less battery life!!!

I have read many tips about what to do for increasing battery life. However
I hav the same setting with ios 5.1.1 that I was using with the previous
version (ios 5.1) but with 85% less battery life time. It is so frustrating because this
issue come back every 2 update : one killing your battery and the second
to fix this, and it starts again... I am really sick of this.
I am using an iPhone 4.

Hi All – I have also experienced the battery drain issue on upgrade to 5.1.1.
Like many on the forum I have tried ALL suggestions to resolve this issue, none of them have resolved the problem that Apple owners seem to be experiencing, it’s not in our minds as some suggest. My iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS are working a treat under 5.1.1, in fact I believe the 3GS is running better than under 4.3.x.
However I do think I have tracked the problem down, which I will document here, but first a list of the things I’ve tried:
    - Fully discharge battery to <5% and then back to 100% and leave charging for 3 hours after
    - Turn off all notifications
    - Turn off all location services
    - Turn down brightness
    - Turn off ALL iCloud services (effectively delete the account)
    - Reconfigure email account to ‘MANUAL Fetch’ only
    - Factory restore to fresh 5.1.1 from within iTunes and then restore from back-up
The only thing that stops the battery discharging at around 5% every 8 hours is turning off Wi-Fi during standby mode. Prior to 5.1.1 the iPad would drain maybe 1% every 24 hours in standby mode with Wi-Fi on.
Puzzled by this I did some research to understand what the iPad is doing whilst in standby mode with Wi-Fi on, so below is a trace from the iPad system log so that hopefully someone can look at this , identify the issue and hopefully fix it in a future ios 5.1.x release:

These repeating messages appear approx every 30 seconds the wakeup packet contains the MAC addresses for my router and iPad, so one of them is misbehaving. This may be to do with how these have been implemented:

Either way I believe this is the source of the power drain issue whilst in standby with Wi-Fi turned on, perhaps this could be a router issue and that is why the issue not hitting everyone post 5.1.1?
    All the best.

  • Will Apple fix the iOS 5.1 battery drain issue?

People keep giving battery saving solutions to the iOS 5.1 battery drain problem but that is not the issue.  With iOS 5.0 battery life was terriable. Apple quickly fixed it with 5.01.  Now with 5.1 battery life is back to terrible.  I could go at least two days without a charge.  After the update (and all my patterns and behaviors being the same), I don't even get a full day!  Apple needs to fix this! Or allow us to go back to iOS 5.01.  Will Apple fix this and if so how soon can we expect a solution?

Yes, you need to setup the phone as new.  I understand your issues on the whole process of setting everything from scratch, I'm afraid that's the only way out.  However, if you look closely, on the whole, it boils down to following issues only.
Contacts - You will get this back once you setup your iCloud account on the phone so it shouldn't be a great issue.
Apps - Do a transfer purchase to your mac/pc before going for firmware complete reset, once you set the phone as new, you can always sync back the apps. This beats the inapp things like game levels, or your pdf docs synced earlier.  iBooks can be restored, otherwise enable document and files backup to iCloud in settings before resetting the phone, then you can get everything back from iCloud.
Mails - If you have a mac you can keep all your mail accounts configured on Mail.app, post install you can bring them back from Mail.app to phone easily; otherwise, I'm afraid you need to do everything manually
Settings - you will have to setup your wifi configuration, VPN if any manually from the scratch
Dispite all the hasseles listed above, the battery fix would be a hot sun on the face in a winter day.  Go for it!

  • Have been told if you use the same itunes account with two iphone you will receive each others text messages, is this true

Have been told if you use the same itunes account on two iphones, you will receive each others text messages, is this true?

you can use the same itunes id for purchases and so on, but have separate icloud id's for imessaging and all the icloud stuff. it's not preferable, but it isn't a problem either.

  • Will my iTunes account support two iPads, and will the apps that I paid for on one iPad be free on the second iPad.

Will my iTunes account support two iPads, and will the apps I buy for one iPad be free for the other iPad.

    Yes yes and yes.
My girlfriend and I use the same AppleID for purchases, and any apps that she purchases I am able to then purchase without additional charges.
