Two ITunes Libraries and Two Apple TVs???

Can you set up two different iTunes Libraries on an iMac and then use two different Apple TVs having one library sync to each?

In that case sync both with the same iTunes library, but make a playlist for each containing the music you want eg AppleTV A and AppleTV B playlists, then for each AppleTV custom sync only the required playlist.
Another option if wireless is flaky would be to consider using mains powerline (eg Devolo, Netgear etc) ethernet adapters which are ethernet sockets - basically one adapter near router, the other near AppleTV wired by ethernet to router and AppleTV, the mains 'bridges' the adapters and transmits the ethernet signal. Provided you don't have an enormous residence with complex wiring it should eliminate the problems of wireless.

  • ITunes Match with 2 iTunes-libraries and one Apple-ID

    Hello.
I am using iTunes on a Mac, iPhone and iPad.
I have two iTunes-libraries with one Apple-ID, one local on my MacBookPro an one with my HomeServer.
The change between the libraries is realised with a program named "Libra".
Now i have iTunes Match and the sync with the local library was pefect.
But what happened if i change at home the library when i want using the library with my HomeServer?
Is it possible or make it problems?
I hope you can help me.
    Thank you.
    Thomas

I'm not familar with Libra, but if it gives you a way for iTunes to be associated with another library at launch, meaning it looks and behaves the same way your original iTunes library does, then when you launch and link to that library, initially iTunes Match will be turned off.  You will have to turn it back on (if prompted to "add this computer, just do it, and if asked for your Apple I.D. just do it).
Once iTunes Match is turned on, it will scan your library and the results will be added to the initial match.  Providing everything in your second library is determined to be eligible (low-bitrate songs won't be, neither will audiobooks, videos, etc.) you will have a merged library available in the cloud

  • Two itunes libraries and one apple TV

Greetings, what I would like to do is to have my main iTunes library selected (certain movies, music, apps for ipad/iphone) which is located on my iMac. I would also like to have a second iTunes library where I keep a hundred gigs or so of video on an external hard drive that can be accessed by Apple TV. Any thoughts on the easiest way to accomplish this. I don't want to store my main iTunes library on an external but I don't want a hundred gigs of video that I may or may not watch sitting on my main hard drive. Thanks in advance.

If you keep additional content on an external HDD, you can add it to your iTunes library using alt-drag without copying it to your laptop. Obviously when the drive is not connected you will not be able to play that content and will receive an error if you do, but you will be able to play it when the external drive is connected.

  • Two Apple Tvs - one iTunes account

I bought two Apple TVs - and want to have them sync to one iTunes account. After I bought the second Apple TV and synced it to my iTunes account, my iTunes account doesn't recognize the first Apple TV. I can ping it - so it's on the network. I've gone to Computers and have tried to reconnect to a shared iTunes account / even connect back to the iTunes account. When I'm given a code, there's no place for me to put the code into iTunes. The device doesn't show under Devices (just my most recent Apple TV)
Help - I need to sync to both - it's for my 3 1/2 year old son

Thanks for the response - I'm on Mac OS 10.4.11 I did rename my Apple TVs - so the names are different.
Also, sometimes my second Apple TV isn't showing on my iTunes either. This is very frustrating!
I'm also on a dual 2.3 GHZ PowerPC G5 (not an intel version). iTunes software version 7.6.2 (9)

  • Audio problem with one episode of iTunes tv show on two apple tvs but audio works fine on same show on iMac

I have a season pass to Dr Who and all 30+ other shows purchased on iTunes work great. Last night's episode (Hide) has a hissing sound so loud it drowns out all the audio in the show when i try to watch it on my Apple TV.  I then downloaded the episode to my iMac and my iPad and no audio issues there. However when I tried playing it shared from my iMac to the Apple TV and the audio problem was there again. Same thing happened when I tried to AirPlay from my iPad to Apple TV.
I have two Apple TVs. One is latest model w latest upgrade, the other is generation before without latest upgrade. Same audio issue on both. I have tons of iTunes TV shows and movies and this is the only episode with an issue. Something is wrong with this file that causes it to screws up the audio on Apple TV.
Has anyone else seen this kind of audio issue specific to just one TV episode or movie?  Anyone know support path for iTunes problems?

If other episodes play Dolby Digital fine this could be a file encoding problem - they sometimes get it wrong.
I suggest you all contact Apple about the problem via itunes store support here:

  • How do I disable sharing on one of two apple tvs? I do not want to share my library and apps with my ex. Apple tvs are in separate homes

I just broke up and left my ex and we had two apple tvs in our home.  I kept one and she kept one.  How do I turn off home sharing on the apple tv that she kept?  I no longer want to share anything with her.  My apps, music, movies, etc.  Do I need to change my apple ID?
    Help,

    Hey Mixtris,
Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, you are concerned that someone may have access to some of your content using your Apple ID. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.

  • Can I use two apple TVs in different locations in the same house?

Can I use two apple TVs in different locations in the same house?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can use 2 or more Apple Tv's in different locations in the same house. You can even use them at the same time and watch the same content on each or choose different content.

  • Two Apple TVs in same room?

I have two Apple TVs in the same room.
They are each set to work with their own activity, but the Harmony One controls both even when not on that Apple TV's activity.
I'd like to set it so that only one of them is controlled when I'm in its activity.
I've tried pairing the remote per the site's instructions but the remote STILL controls both as if it's the same device.
    Here's my procedure:
    1. Select New Apple TV as a device on the remote.
    2. Aim remote at New Apple TV (while shielding the IR port on the Old Apple TV).
    3. Select pair (screen reflects a successful pairing).
Repeat procedure for Old Apple TV.
But then the remote STILL controls both devices no matter which activity I'm in.
    Any ideas?

if you are using the logitech to control both appletv's you won't be able to pair, because it's the same remote and both the appletv's are set to be paired to it.
the only way round this is to either use 2 different remotes, or turn 1 of the appletv's off when not in use.
just because you are using a different activity on the remote doesn't make it a totally different remote in the eyes of the appletv.

  • Two Apple TVs to Two TVs from one iPad?

    Hello all,
I bought two Apple TVs to try to solve my problem here.
I have TWO TVs that are on either side of my podium in the boardroom and would like to put my powerpoint presentations from my one iPad onto both of them. I was wondering if this was possible with the two Apple TVs I bought using Airplay before I decide to unwrap them from the plastic. What about video playback?
    Thank you.

99% sure it's not possible to mirror to more then one device at the time

  • Keynote presentation AirPlay stream to two Apple TVs from one iMac

I would like to show a keynote slide from an iMac to two apple tvs in different rooms simultaneously. Is this possible?

Yes, provided you haven't hit the limit of number of concurrent streaming connections allowed in iTunes (5).

  • AirPlay and 2 apple tvs (streaming only to one at a time) - possible?

    Very brief question.
I am thinking of getting two Apple TVs - one for the liing room and one for the bedroom, with a view to streaming any films etc i have on my iMac to the device.
I've googled and can't find any reference to whether 2 apple tvs is possible - i.e. does the iMac show 2 devices and i can choose which to stream to?
I'm aware that i can't stream to both devices at the same time.
So in short, am i able to setup 2 apple tvs and decide which to stream my movies to?
    Cheers!

It's more or less been said already, but when you don't already have an Apple tv, streaming terminology can be a little difficult to grasp.
There are two ways to stream content to the Apple tv. You can initiate the stream from the iMac or from the Apple tv.
If you choose to initiate the stream from the iMac (Airplay) you can only stream one item at a time.
If you initiate from the Apple tv you can simultaneously stream different (or indeed the same content) at the same time to different Apple tvs.

  • Want to erase and install & reinstall iTunes libraries and some documents

My iMac G4 Flat Panel is 9gb shy of being totally full and performance really suffers as a result. I want to erase the drive and install Leopard (I just bought a new disk).
What is the best way(s)/procedures to backup my iTunes libraries and some documents so that I can reinstall them on the newly formatted drive?
After paying for the Leopard disk, I don't want to buy any other programs to do the backup. I have been backing up the drive to an external using Backup.

    Steven,
Backup is a fine application, but it typically targets specific items to be backed up. Meaning, that it is not necessarily entirely comprehensive. At least not in the context of migrating from one installation to another.
One of the concepts present in OS X is the idea that everything that makes your account "yours," all of your data, settings, history, etc., is entirely contained within your HOME folder. By moving that HOME folder into any new installation, you essentially transplant your entire experience as a user into the new location. In many cases, this works so well that, if someone did it behind your back while "swapping" computers with you, you would never know the difference. That's how it works, in theory.
In practice, there are usually some minor things that pop up in such a transfer, but these are all minor in the extreme. One might end up with a "question mark" or two in one's Dock, resulting from the absence of a linked application in the new installation. The question mark can be removed, or the application in question can be installed, so these things are easy enough to fix.
Your situation is complicated somewhat by the fact that you want to "whittle down" what you restore to the new installation. The assumption I make, based on your posts, is that you have only the one account, and your single HOME folder contains enough data to consume most of your disk space. OK, you can handle this several ways...
You could cover all bases by making one complete backup of your HOME folder as it is now, then begin "whittling down" what you have now before wiping your drive and reinstalling. This would give you the opportunity to reduce your disk space consumption while still working within your HOME folder; testing what you do, as it were, and with the knowledge that your deletions are not irreversible. When you find the right balance between what you can delete and what you must keep, you can make an additional backup of your reduced HOME folder (provided you have enough space on your external drive).
Or, you could make a complete backup of your HOME folder, as it exists now, then go ahead and format/reinstall. You would then have to decide what you will move from the backup into your new account. Part of this process is knowing just where to place transferred items for everything to work properly. As far as simple files are concerned, it wouldn't make any difference where you place them. Items contained in libraries, however, might be quite complicated to move, unless you simply moved the entire libraries in question. In these cases, the libraries themselves must be transferred to the correct locations. It's not an insurmountable problem, but it does complicate matters a bit.
Finally, you could backup and restore the HOME folder as it currently exists. Typically, the process of formatting and reinstalling, then restoring user data, results in a more compact installation. Over time, any installation accrues some fragmented free space, and this effectively reduces the storage capacity of a volume. As much as or more than 10% of the size of the volume can be recovered this way. In any case, your new installation will be smaller than the old to some degree, even with all of your user data restored. Once you get to this point, you could begin reducing the amount of data you have stored, just as in option #1 above, and again safe in the knowledge that nothing you delete is irrecoverable.
rsync is powerful. While it is easy to use, it has many options and is therefore complex to learn. Its "man pages" might be considered daunting. I could provide a copy and paste command for you to run which would make a complete backup of your HOME folder, provided I knew the path to a destination. The exact name of your external drive, along with any nested folders therein you might want to use as a destination, would suffice.
If you want to read more about rsync yourself, open Terminal and type "man rsync," then press <RETURN>. The "man" application will scroll line by line by using the arrow keys, and page by page by pressing the spacebar. Press "q" to quit the man application.
