Two iTunes Problems & Comments

I use iTunes to manage my podcasts and interface with my 30GB fifth generation iPod. I don't use it as my primary music manager or player, and if it weren't for the fact that its the only way to interface with my portable device, I wouldn't use it at all. That said, I have two problems with even my limited usage.
[My computer is a Gateway M450, with a 1.86 GHz Pentium M processor and a gig of RAM, running up to date Windows XP Pro. It is not bogged down with spyware or anything of the sort, as a person who has been working with computers for 10 years and works 20+ hours a week at my university's technical support center repairing student and faculty machines, I feel confident saying that.]
1) When I plug in my iPod for charging and syncing at the end of the day, I usually come back the next morning and find "iTunes has encountered an error and had to close." sitting in a dialog box. This has just started since the last update, I believe. I checked for a newer version of iTunes and it said I had the most recent version.
2) Whenever I browse podcasts, refresh podcasts, update podcasts, plug in my iPod, or a few other browsing activities, the iTunes.exe process uses ~100% of the CPU for 15-30 seconds, and sometimes even longer. I don't know what's causing this, but it seems rather excessive. Anyone know a cause or fix for this?
I've seen other posts with similar issues, but not much in the way of help or resolution. Hopefully I can get some answers for the required software for my nice shiny piece of hardware.

  • Two iTunes problems

I just got the new 27" iMac and am running OS 10.8.2. Everytime I open iTunes, it asks me to select a library. It fails to remember my selection and asks me again everytime I open the program. Also, despite putting the program in the Firewall settings as being OK to accept network connections, it continues to ask me whether or not I want to allow the program to accept incoming network connections. It is getting annoying to have to keep making these selections every time. Any suggestions?

I solved the Firewall problem by removing a preference file as suggested in another discussion, but the app still asks for a library everytime I start up. I tried deleting the main preference file, but that did not help. Tried deleting other iTunes preference files, (there are several of them), and still no help.

  • Two annoying iTunes problems

I've noticed two iTunes problems that are quite annoying; one of which has been there for several versions.
The first, which I have just noticed since iTunes 10, is that when modifying the information for several mp3s at the same time (eg., an entire album), the new information won't stick to one of the songs. For me it doesn't initially happen when I start iTunes but after I've changed about 3 albums' information, it starts and then is repeatable for every change. This means the work takes twice as long since I have to enter the information again so that the other song gets the same info.
The second problem is that when I start iTunes and the external hard drive where my songs (not library file) is located, and then start the external drive, any songs added to the library will be saved to the local drive and not the external drive. iTunes can see the external drive since it's able to play songs from it. There is also no message nor a way to see file path as a header option.
I'm glad they fixed the bug where the songs in an album would show up as separate albums.
Has anyone else had these problems? Any work arounds?

The second problem is that when I start iTunes and the external hard drive where my songs (not library file) is located, and then start the external drive,
Fire up the external drive and make sure it is ready and mounted before launching iTunes.

  • Will I have problems with two iTunes Accounts?

When I first bought my Mac, I didn’t have MobileMe, and therefore I used my Comcast email address in order to set up my iTunes account. I purchased several Apps, music, and iBooks under my Comcast account, however, since purchasing MobileMe, I have kept myself signed into iTunes under my MobileMe Account, and have made all purchases using my Mobileme iTunes account. Unfortunately, I know this means that I have two iTunes accounts.
For mail, I solely use MobileMe, and any email I get from Comcast, is forwarded to my MobileMe Account. When I get “App Updates” available on my iOS devices (iPhone 4S and iPad2), the “pop up” (which requires I enter my password to allow the download to begin) will be associated with either my Comcast email address, or my MobileMe address (depending upon which account I purchased the App, Music, or Book under). I do use only one single computer for backing up however.
While this hasn’t created any problems using an iTunes hard or wireless sync, I didn’t know if I will have any difficulties once migrating over to iCloud. I’m hopeful that everything works as it has. I don’t have a family account, all purchases under the Comcast and MobileMe addresses currently live locally on my iMac that I use for syncing.
Just wanted to check with you all before I migrate to iCloud, as I didn’t want to lose any of my Apps, Music or Books, nor do I want to have difficulties with App updates (e.g. problems migrating purchases to iCloud that were originally bought under my Comcast Account, or problems updating Apps when updates are available that were originally purchased under my Comcast Account).
Thanks you in advance for any input!
    Best,
    iDan
PS: I recently updates to iOS 5, and 10.7.2!

My personal experience has been no issues with either browser, including using a secure webmail account access.  If others have reported issues, I really can't comment since I haven't had any.  I have used my systems extensively in Paris and Zurich, especially at the technical university in Zurich and been satisfied with my access.
Of course, if you have more than one browser installed you can easily switch between them if problems do arise...a lot to be said for options

  • Can 2 teachers share an ipod touch and put apps on it with two itune accounts

Can 2 teachers share an ipod touch and put apps on it with two itune accounts?

    Sure.  No problem.
Be aware that ALL purchases are permanently associated with whatever Apple ID was used to originally obtain them.  Apps can not be updated without knowledge of that ID and, more importantly, its password.  Apple IDs can not be merged and purchases can not be transferred from one ID to another.
Minor nuisance if you choose to update apps from inside the computer's iTunes.  If you're logged into the "wrong" account, it's necessary to log out/in to do the update.  It's easier if you update from the iPod itself.  No need to log out/in but you do need to know the password for the ID.

  • How do I determine what folder my library is attached to if I have two iTunes music folders on my computer?

I am trying to backup my music to an external backup disc. The problem is that I have two iTunes folders on my computer. So I need to determine which is the correct folder to backup. Please help.

Run iTunes, select any track, and Get Info on it (File menu). On the Summary page it will show you the path to the file which will tell you the correct folder. This of course presumes that your iTunes library isn't split between two folders, which is entirely possible, so you may wish to check more than a single track.

  • Itunes problem with windows Vista

ok i bought my touchsmart tx2 1025 with windows vista ultimate 64 bit and well i ve noticed that ..well since this is my third time i exchange this computer and i noticed there was a problem with the speakers when i was playing music that anytime during a song i would get this distorted sound like when u put a lot of volume in ipod headphones that it sounds like a crack. Well that happened in my computer even with low volumes.
However I played two times the same song on itunes and two times on windows media player.
Every single time on itunes the sound came as if the speakers were about to blow... like a crack..
Every single time on Windows media player it never sounded like that.
So i am pretty sure its an itunes problem. Does anyone know how to fix this.. i would rather use itunes than windows media player but i really hate the sound it makes sometimes because it shows about 2 to 3 times during one song.

It's possible that the song your playing does indeed have a little audio distortion in it, some media players are capable of filtering it out in a silent way, others play a beep, hence with one song I have, if i play it in windows media player it goes on and then for a split second theres a beep, iTunes doesent seem to do it, so instead of filtering out the missing data, it plays it.
This is more likley a problem with the song than iTunes

You seem to have tried everything, and you say it's syncing fine on your Dad's iMac, so I assume, you have also  done a Disk Diagnostic from an earlier post by tt2 and conclude that your iPod Hardisk is good.
You don't have to use it as a heavy paperweight, the problem is only using your Windows 7 machine for syncing.
In your troubleshooting steps, did you try to use another High-Speed USB 2.0 port, USB controller resource are very scarce, so if you use other USB devices, while syncing your iPod, it may just freeze.
Windows have a bad reputation for device conflict, so better don't connect other  USB devices, while syncing, better sync it while disconnected from Internet, stop antivirus just before you go to bed.
    Have a nice day!

  • How do I merge two itunes accounts?

Somehow I ended up with two iTunes accounts.  This was not by design, but rather because of the convoluted sign-up process and my unfamiliarity with it.  I didn't deal with it before now because it wasn't a problem until now.  What has caused it to be a problem is that I just got an iPad to go along with my iMac, iPhone, and MacBook Pro (trust me, I never thought I'd see this day, but I needed a system that was integrated).
Since accounts are associated with users, the songs that show up on my iPad are different that what's on my iMac.  I could describe the problems and challenges in detail, but I'm sure any knowledgable users can imagine what they are.
Now, in order to use iCloud, I have to move from Snow Leopard to Lion, which is going to be a bear (even moreso since a new back-up drive nearly destroyed my computer, and I have a query about it in another post-- the problems just keep on rolling).  How do I associate all my purchases from one account with the other one so I can keep credit for songs and apps?  Many thanks for all help.  -J.

    Hello HEScruggs,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
You cannot merge multiple Apple ID accounts into one.  See below for more information.
I have multiple Apple IDs. Is there a way for me to merge them into a single Apple ID?
Apple IDs cannot be merged. You should use your preferred Apple ID from now on, but you can still access your purchased items such as music, movies, or software using your other Apple IDs.
If you are wondering how using multiple Apple IDs relate to iCloud, see Apple IDs and iCloud.

  • How can I merge two iTunes folder, one with music and the other without?

Two years ago Apple support suggested moving my iTunes folder out of my Home folder to the HD level in order to share it across users. This is no longer necessary. How do I move my music back to my Home folder since now I have an Itunes folder at the HD level (along with application, library, system, users folders) and an Itunes folder under Music in my Home folder. For example both those itunes folders have a mobile application, album artwork, and previous itunes library subfolder as well as itunes library extras.itdb and itunes library genius.itdb. How do I merge them or which ones do I delete? The files in the mobile app folder in my Home folder have a newer "last modified" date. Currenty under Itunes-->Preferences-->Advanced, it says Itunes media location is /itunes/itunes media/ music. I assumes that is the HD level folder. What happens if I hit reset?
    I am using Itunes 10.6.3.
Any help tailored to a novice would be great. Thanks.

    Thanks for the links, Limnos.
If you are willing to continue helping, here's what I found.
Just to clarify the two iTunes folders I am refering to are:
    username-->Music-->iTunes
    HD-->iTunes
I am presuming each location has a full set of files as outlined in the above links?
Not all the files are in both locations. Most are.
    - The Itunes folder in my home folder does not have itunes library.xml.
    - The Itunes folder in my home folder has a subfolder called Mobile Applications (username-->Music-->iTunes--> Mobile application). The Itunes folder at the HD level also has a Mobile Application folder but it is a subfolder of Itunes Media folder (HD-->iTunes--> iTunes Media-->Mobile applications) and has no files in it.
    - I do not have an iTunes Media in the iTunes folder in my home folder.
    - also the Itunes media folder (HD-->iTunes--> iTunes Media) has subfolders by type (books, movies, itunes u, music etc...) but the iTunes Media-->Music also has some of the same subfolders ( iTunes Media-->Music-->books, iTunes Media-->Music-->Movies, iTunes Media-->Music-->iTunes U). Is this normal repetition?
    You say:
    /itunes/itunes media/ music
but it is important to note what comes before all that.
There is nothing as far as I can tell before that first forward slash. Since the only iTunes Media folder I have is in the iTunes folder that resides at the HD level (HD-->iTunes--> iTunes Media folder) not the iTunes folder in my home folder (username-->Music-->iTunes) , I assume that's the one that holds the music.
Keep iTunes media folder organized and Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library are both checked on
Does that give more clarity into my problem?

  • Two iTunes libraries by mistake on one PC

My old computer crashed and I couldn't recover the most recent iTunes folder on that drive. However, I did back-up the folder to an external drive a few months ago (I know, why so long). Here's where I did something wrong... I installed iTunes on my new Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit computer, then I copied the older backed-up folder from the external to write over the iTunes folder installed on my PC by the iTunes app after installation (can't remember which location I put the B/U folder, I am new to Win7). I did a "Shift" Open iTunes to choose folder and the app informed me I have two (2) iTunes folders. One is path "Home -> My Music -> iTunes" and the other is under  path "Libraries -> Music - iTunes".  I think I really screwed-up here.
(Apple Support (#800) was no help and was only interested in getting my $60 for further support (spoke to 5-reps, first 4 were kind enough to help at no charge, last one wanted the money). The first rep, Howard, had me redownload all my apps Purchased from iTunes, this took two hours since I had a lot. The second rep, Christina, gave me a case #, advised on how to Sync my apps correctly and also my music. I had to reauthorize my audiobooks with my audible.com user/pw to get my books which went fairly well. The third rep, Shabu, was no help at all and barely spoke English (sorry but that's the way it was), so I didn't understand what he was trying to help me do about the two folders. The fourth rep, Cory (male), hung up on me after reading my notes on their case # file (no kidding), and if disconnected would call back within two minutes; no call back. The last rep, Ronald, was rude and said I had called too many times, "give me money for help" or you're on your own. I had asked him about the two iTunes folders (above) but he said he didn't know about PC's so could help with two folders.)
Soooo...sorry to ramble, I am a senior citizen who is very confused and exhausted right now.
    * How do I tell which folder the app iTunes is using (they are both the same size and same number of files)?
    * How do I tell which folder to safely delete since I don't know which one iTunes is accessing?
    * How do I get this back to way it was on my old XP machine? (iTunes folder failed machine was in "My Documents -> My Music -> iTunes")
Thanks. Please help. (I did a search but could not find a specific problem such as mine or a solution which may be simple).
    Jake

I totally feel your pain. I too have a similar setup, a G4 running Tiger wherein I ripped my vinyl to a higher bitrate than my CD copies. I have in one of thses threads a script that was written for me that would rummage across the home network and pull down all the lower bitrate copies and move them, but I had a hard drive snafu, ran out of space and never got around to it..
I DO think however, that you can display the bitrate of the files in the list view options within iTunes and sort the files that way, and move the duplicate files you don't want to the trash. From within iTunes.. Let me go fire up the livingroom frankenbox to check..
Yup.. If you use the View Options you can sort through the master list in iTunes by bitrate..
    http://imageupper.com/i/?S0300010100011D1344782818223713
Takes a bit to sort out the tracks but it's workable..
As to joining the libraries that you've gotten them cleaned up, you need to drop all the song files into a single folder and let iTunes sort them into the default location. There is a submenu here:

  • Combine two iTunes accounts

I've seen the responses on previous post (at least some of them) saying it is not necessary to combine two iTunes accounts.  The solution is to authorize both accounts on all computers and you're fine.  I disagree.
First, my wife and I have three iTunes accounts, because when she first signed up for MobleMe she was allowed to have a username that was not an email address.  Then when iCloud came around, she was required to have a user name that was an email address.  So she created a new one.
Here's the problem; we have bought media ( a lot of it) on three different accounts:  her first one (non-email user name), her second one (email) and my account.  We have purchased so much media that we cannot fit it all on any of the hard drives (lot os HD TV show, and movies).  It is a pain in the rear to have to keep track of what movie is on what account when we want to login and download a prepurchased movie.
It was not our fault that Apple changed the login requirement for user names from non-email (and email) to strictly email only.
There should be a process for us to be able to at least combine my wife's two accounts.
    Apple, will you help?

Might want to suggest it to them -> http://www.apple.com/feedback/

  • Using Two Itunes accounts

I'm not sure if I am posting this in the right place or not but here goes nothing. My son received an Ipod for Christmas from stepmom. Stepmom set up her account in Itunes on the computer at their home. When son returned home, we set up a seperate account on home computer so that stepmom would not be charged for our purchases. When son went back to stepmom, they were not allowed to download movies from that computer because it told them they could not have two itune accounts. So stepmom is upset because movie purchases are unuseable. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

It is actually two seperate computers.
    Yes, I understand that,
The problem is that she can't seem to get the movie downloaded from their computer to the ipod. The ipod won't recognize that itunes account.
So it's a problem loading onto the iPod. What model of iPod is it? If it's an iPod shuffle, you can't connect it to more than one computer, but since it's a movie that he's trying to download, I'm presuming that it's not a shuffle.
My guess is that the computer is set to synch to the iPod automatically, which you can't do from more than one computer without having to reset the iPod (which erases everything on it and reloads from the new copy of iTunes). This should help:
    Using iPod with multiple computers
