Two laptops - one will connect to the internet and the other one will not

I have two home laptops. Both show as connected to my network with full signal. However, when you attempt to open the internet, one laptop will not open and the other one will. I have tried connecting with just the cord from the router to the laptop and it doesn't work; I have tried looking up the IP address and one laptop address is different from the other - I don't know if this should be this way or not; I have tried doing the start, run, cmd, ipconfig, and I got 4 replies, but when I typed in ping space yahoo.com, I did not get the replies on the computer that will not go on the internet, but did get the replies on the other laptop. I don't know what else to do - please give me some ideas.

Make sure the IP address is set to DHCP, and browser is not configured for any proxy server.

• My server has Two NICs ! I want to use one of the NIC for the internet and the other to a local Network .

In my case , there is a server ( windows 2008 enterprise) . Instead of sharing the internet using the server . i have done the following .
i have 24 port switch which is connected with the modem (ISP Gave it to me). My server then is connected with the switch . the client pcs are also connected with the switch(d-link switch).
my objective is to enable efficient way of file sharing from server for client pcs and also internet sharing at the same time for client pcs!
my server has two NICs ! how to make the local network and internet work with out a fight!
how could i achieve this ? help me guys
regards

It really depends on exactly what the equipment from the ISP is. If it is a simple modem there is no point in connecting it to a switch. It needs to connect to a router.
You can connect it to one NIC of the server and configure the server as a (NAT) router (with the other NIC connected to the switch).
If either of the switches is actually a router you can use it as the NAT router and run the server on the LAN using one NIC.

• I recently purchased a time capsule and thought I would put my itunes on it as an external drive as my mac book air only has 120gb. However I can not be connected to the internet and the TC at the same time in order to download the files to the TC. Help?

I recently purchased a Time Capsule and put my iTunes library on there so that I wasn't using up my hard drive space. Only 120gb on my mac book air. However when I download songs from iTunes I can not be connected wirelessly to the internet at the same time. Can I hard wire my TC in to my mac so that I can treat the TC as just an external hard drive? Thanks

Initially, you asked if you can hardwire your MBA to the TC. The answer is yes, by using the optional USB Ethernet adapter that Apple provides. However, in order for your MBA to access the TC's internal or USB-attached HDD, it would need to establish a network connection to it. This would be true of any NAS device on an Ethernet network. Therein, lies the problem. Your MBA cannot connect to two networks simultaneously.
One option then, would be to have two separate iTunes Media folders; one on the MBA & the other on the TC. This way, you can download the music to your MBA when connected to the Internet at the AirPort lounge, and then use iTunes Consolidate Library feature to transfer the audio files to the TC's iTunes Media Folder location. A great program to help maintain multiple iTunes Librarys and/or Media Folders, that you may want to consider, is PowerTunes.

• I am having a probelem with one website saying it is unsecure and untrusted.Other people are not getting same message.I have tried everything.

Hi there.
I am having constant problems when trying to connect to www.pretty green.com.When going to check out it is telling me that the site is unsognes, unsecure and doesn't use encryption.Other people are not seeing this message.
I have tried everything from reinstalling firefox to disabling ad ons etc.
The website also say it is secure.
Why will firefox not let me connect to it and why could it be showing as unsecure?
Than you.

Thank you for the updates. Since the server seems to be set up correctly, the '''sec_error_unknown_issuer''' could indicate that your connection to the server is being intercepted.
One common reason for this is that you use software like avast! 2015, Kaspersky, ESET, or BitDefender that has a feature of scanning your web traffic for threats. Firefox might not be set up to work with that software. If this is the case, when you view the site's certificate in the Add Exception dialog or in another browser, it usually will say it was issued by your security software provider.
Another possible reason is a hijacked connection or malware.
To try to sort this out, on the error page, do you see a section at the bottom which says "I understand the risks" with an Add Exception button? If so, click Add Exception and then click "View" to view the certificate. You don't need to actually add an exception, it's better that you don't, but this is a way to see the certificate.
If you check the "Issued by" section, what do you see there? I have attached what I see in Firefox 37 for comparison. Also, does the certificate path (chain of trust) on the Details tab look like the attached?
If you can't use Add Exception for this, you can click the padlock in the address bar in a different browser and use its certificate viewer.

• McAfee frequently warns me that Firefox is trying to accept incoming connections from the Internet and asks me whether or not I want to allow or block this - what is this all about?

I cannot find any reference to this sort of activity by Firefox on your website. It is an '.exe' program location and McAfee warns me that "Hackers can use programs to steal your personal information or hijack your PC".
Can you please confirm that these incoming connections are legitimate Firefox activity, and if so please explain what they are, why they are required by Firefox and why there appears to be no reference to this activity on your website. Many thanks.

Hi Cor-el,
Thanks for your response.
No, unfortunately McAfee does not give any more detail as to the origin of these incoming connections - is there a way to find out from McAfee?
I would have thought that Mozilla Firefox should have the answers, but I have been unable to find any reference to this issue on their website, Help section etc.
Could it be the way my Options are configured? - although I've not changed them from the Default settings as far as I can remember.
Cheers,

• Connecting the internet and an already existing network

I currently have a system set up using a 24 port linksys switch. All the computers go into this port including the server ran by windows 2000 server. I just recently got the internet at my business (T-1 Isp-XO) I have it set up where i just attatched a linksys wireless router to the modem and am using the internet on my laptop(put the info my isp told me to under static ip in the router i already tried dhcp or whatever that one that automatically obtains the ip is and it didnt work so static was required). What I would like to do is beable to hook up to the internet and the network on my laptop through the wireless router. I also have a wired linksys router 4 ports 1 uplink port if that would help at all to make this possible thx in advance Message Edited by Cantonwholesale on 06-20-2007 04:05 PM Message Edited by Cantonwholesale on 06-20-2007 04:08 PM
Message Edited by Cantonwholesale on 06-20-2007 04:25 PM

Ok basically i have a 24 port switch, I have all the computers in the business hooked into a port in the switch including the server which has a dhcp server which assigns all the computers an ip address. All these computers in the switch are in the same network. Now heres where I have encountered the problem i just recently got a T-1 internet connection. I have a laptop which i also just got so i hooked in a wireless router to the modem of this T-1 connection. The wireless router and switch at the moment are completely separate meaning the computers attached to the switch are apart of the network but not the internet. Now the router attached to the modem can only access the internet and thats it sense its not connected to the switch. What I want to do is be able to access the network and the internet at the same time through the wireless router. So I tried to take one of the open ports of the switch and put it into the 1st port of the wireless router. When i did this all i could still get was the internet. When i disconnected the wireless adaptor on my laptop and reconnected I got the network which all the computers connected into the switch get. So I called Linksys they told me that the problem was that the router and the server of the network were assigning ips so both couldnt work at the same time. This is where I am at right now I dont know how to fix this or even what to do they told me to turn off the dhcp on the router which i tried to do but the router stopped responding and i couldnt even connect to the router.

• If I have two laptops connected to a single wireless hard drive, what happens when one laptop wants to go on a trip and the other one needs to stay home?

if I have two laptops connected to a single wireless hard drive (i.e. Time Capsule), what happens when one laptop wants to go on a trip and the other one needs to stay home? I'm afraid I know the answer, but I'm hoping Apple has a great solution to my problem.

What if this little piggy goes to market but this little piggy stays home?
The computer on a trip will do snapshot backups on the hard drive that will then be incorporated into the Time Machine backup once you get it back home. See
OS X Lion- About Time Machine's "local snapshots" on portable Macs
Open the Terminal in the Utilities folder and enter or paste the appropriate command line. Press RETURN and enter your admin password when prompted. It will not be echoed.
To turn them ON: sudo tmutil enablelocal
To turn them OFF: sudo tmutil disablelocal
Note that turning them OFF will also delete all existing snapshots.

• I have two iPads and one is connected to the internet but my other iPad was connected then was not and since then I have not been able to add my internet back onto my iPad it only says cannot connect to the server any help would be great thanks

I have two iPads and one is connected to the internet but my other iPad was connected then was not and since then I have not been able to add my internet back onto my iPad it only says cannot connect to the server any help would be great thanks

If you are having WiFi problems it is necessary to isolate whether the problem is with your network or your iPad. Note: Do NOT consider your network to be blameless if some other devices can connect to it.
First, test your iPad on some other WiFi networks: a friends, Starbucks, Barnes & Noble, etc.
If it works well there then the problem is probably with your network. Try restarting your WiFi router by removing power for 30 seconds. If that does not help check for a firmware update for your router. If none exists which corrects the problem consider replacing the router.
If your iPad does not function well on other networks it possibly has a hardware problem. You could try Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings to see if that corrects the problem. If not, contact Apple Support or visit an Apple store for evaluation. They can provide a replacement if your iPad is bad.
If you need more help please give the make, model, and version of your WiFi router and how you have it configured.

• WRT 120N- Cannot connect to the internet with more than one PC at a time.

Before I went on a three month vacation,I could connect 3 or 4 PC's either wireless or wired to my router with no problems at all.I have a desk top and a laptop computer which I use at home. After I returned,I found that I could connect to the internet with only one PC at a time.
If I was say, connected via my laptop,my desk top would continuously keep getting disconnected and vice versa.I have been reading the suggestions from experts here and have done a few checks based on them.I also cannot get to my router page which is 192.168.1.1 I keep getting a message that says "Problem Loading Page" and this happens with both,Firefox and Internet Explorer.I am running Windows 7 - 32 bit on my desk top and Vista Home Premium on my laptop.
I have opened the "Command Prompt" dialogue and pinged 192.168.1.1 and thereafter I typed in "ipconfig".These are the results:

I presume that this model is a modem **bleep** router as I do not have a separate modem with my system.I have a DSL connection and the firmware version of my router is ver.1.0.If I recall,I did upgrade to the next firmware upgrade a few months after I purchased the router but I am not sure.
I use both my PC's to run a small business venture and I am worried that resetting the router may cause some other problems and will stop me from using the internet.
The Command Prompt information above was taken from my laptop.
Any help will be really appreciated.

I suggest resetting the router. Make sure firmware is updated. You can download it here - http://homesupport.cisco.com/en-us/support/routers/WRT120N. After firmware upgrade, reset and reconfigure. Just access the link below to guide you setting up the router.
