Two libraries, one mac, one apple tv

Hi, I have browsed this community but can't find a sollution. I have one mac and one apple TV (2nd generation). My wife and I have seperate itunes libraries on the mac. How can I access both libraries at the same time from my Apple tv?
Homesharing is configured. I can access both libraries - but not at the same time. Only the library of the active account is visible. Any ideas?

You need to turn off the option to copy content to the iTunes folder in iTunes preferences, then when you add new content to iTunes you will need to place the content on one of the HDDs and then drag and drop it onto iTunes from a finder window.
Or you can alternatively leave the "Copy" option on and simply press the Alt-key when dragging and dropping content to momentarily suspend the "Copy" of the dragged content to the library. (I.e., iTunes will gladly manage both copied and non-copied content as long as you do not move or delete the non-copied files at the Finder level after adding them to the iTunes database.)

  • Two iPhones + One Mac = One Shared Photo Stream (Impossible?)

Please can someone give me a straight forward answer to this question? I have read through the other similar forum questions and I still don't feel that I have found a definitive answer / solution.
Is it possible to do the following please:
Two iPhones + One Mac = One Shared Photo Stream (i.e. three devices that all have access to and update the Photo Stream as photographs are taken)
    If so, how?
If not, am I really the only person that wants to do this?
    Thanks (in anticipation).

Create a free email account at gmail, yahoo, outlook.com, or one of the other email services and use that to create the second Apple ID.
Also, create separate user accounts on your computer for each of you to avoid unintentionally mixing up your data.

  • Two Libraries?? One iPod??

I am in the same dilema. I have one iPod and two libraries.
The iPod will not download from two libraries at once. Someone please help!

You need to Transfer music manually
The iPod offers three ways to transfer music from your computer. You can select one of the following update modes from the iPod Preferences menu in iTunes (Edit=>Preferences=>'iPod' tab):
    1) Automatically update all songs and playlists. This is the default mode, in which your entire music library, including playlists, is automatically synced to your iPod. If the music library on your computer exceeds the iPod storage capacity, you are prompted to select a different update method.
    2) Automatically update selected playlists only. With this option, iTunes automatically copies the playlists you have selected to the iPod when you connect it to the computer.
    3) Manually manage songs and playlists. You can also choose to transfer music to the iPod manually. This allows you to drag and drop individual songs and playlists from iTunes to the iPod.

  • One Mac, one User, one library, two Store accounts possible

Is it possible to buy with two different store accounts?
It's one user on the computer, one Music library but I would like to shop for my daughter without adding another account. She's on an imac G3, so I can't fill her iPod nano there.

    Hi Joachim,
Yes, you can create two or more accounts to use on the same computer at the same time. For example, in my case, I have one US and other Portuguese account.
Just make sure you authorized your computer to play content from both accounts.
    Hope this helps!

  • CS4 One Designer, Two PCs (One Mac, One Win)

We need our designer to work on both Mac and PC. So far, we worked mostly on press items, but now we are getting into the interactive development are. Our head designer needs to do the creative work on a Mac but also review and adjust on his Windows PC before submiting the file to the developers.
The designer will NEVER work on both PCs at once. We already own a license for CS4 Mac and several CS4 Win, but find unfair to have to buy an additional CS4 Win just for this case. If it was another Mac, we could do the install as long the the 2 installations are never used simultaneouslly.
Any idea on how to solve this?

Well, as you know, you can install on up to two systems of the same platform, so long as you dont use them at the same time...
But section 2.10 of the Adobe CS4 licensing agreement (section 2.11 for CS5) is pretty clear that you can't mix-and-match across platforms.
You might inquire with Adobe customer support if they can help you in any way, but that's the way it is right now, for everyone.

  • I have two libraries now.  One for iPhoto and one for Photos

The Photos library is significantly smaller than the the iPhoto library.  70gb versus 105 gb.
I read I can delete the older iPhoto program and library but why would it be so much larger if it is based on the same photos.  Why isn't the new Photos Library the same size?
    Thanks

You cannot have two different TC setups.. at least until Mountain Lion.. it did introduce some changes but I am not sure if you can setup two different configurations for TM.. you can use two different devices to back up to. I doubt this will help you.
You might be better using a real backup software.. superduper, CCC, chronosync etc.
The TC by default is available to any Mac in the network to do backups. TM will sort itself out and put each computer on a different backup. These are kept in separate sparsebundles.. so that is all fine.

  • Two libraries instead of one?

    Hi,
I want to keep my classical music collection separate from everything else and would like to build a separate library for it. How do I do that? Also, is there better way to keep them apart? I know I can edit the information and keep them separate by putting them in a "classical" category but I really do want them separated.

  • One Mac, One Library, Multiple Accounts.

I recently introduced an iMac G4 into my family as their new primary machine (Mine is still my trusty PowerBook), and I have a bit of a problem.
The prior computer (a Windows XP PC) had a fairly large (14.5 GB) music collection. All the files are simple mp3 files, so there's no DRM to worry about in this equation. I copied them over onto an external drive and then imported them into iTunes (my user's Library). The thing is, this is a consortium of everyone's music, and each person in my family has their own user account. Is there any way to make one central iTunes library that can be accessed no matter what account they're using?
Or do I have to copy over these 14 gigs onto each person's individual accounts? I'd rather not, because then as music is added, it would be a pain to keep everyone's music synced across multiple libraries on the same machine. Plus, it would be a huge waste of space.

  • External drive, one PC, one Mac, one iPod.

I have been looking through these forums and have gotten some useful information. However, I am still not clear on this. Here is my situation:
I have one 80gb iPod classic I just purchased. I have all my music on an external FAT32 drive. I have two computers. One is Vista and the other is an iBook. I would like to be able to plug my external drive into either machine and fire up iTunes and sync my ipod. Now, i've learned that if I first sync it on one machine and then go to the other to sync it, it will erase all my songs and reload them based on whats in the current library. It wouldn't be a problem if it just looked at the songs and then synced up any changes, however this does not appear to be what happens.
Is there any way to move my external drive from one machine to another with my ipod and use autosync without having to reload all the songs every single time? I understand I can use manually manage my files but I would rather sync because of podcasts and so on. Also, if manually managing files do play counts get updated?
Surely someone else has been in this situation before. Thanks guys.

I don't know anything to help with this but I do know that playcounts do not update from iPod to iTunes when manual transferring.

  • One Mac & One PC

I have just bought a Airport express and want to limit access to my mac and my wife's PC. I can already detect other networks in the building I live in, and want to protect ours. I don't think I can use WPA since she has a PC. I am new at this, what is the best way to allow only the two of us access to our airport?
    Thanks!
    Probook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Using the Airport Admin Utility, double click on your airport base station.
On the window that comes up, click the tab that says "Access Control"
That's where you can say "hey ONLY the following computers are allowed to acces this network.
The trick is you need the Aiport ID (on the PC it's called the MAC ID -- nothing to do with Macintosh). it looks like six hex numbers such as 00:1E:25:2E:0C:77. It's the id number fo ryour wireless networking card.
enter those numbers for each of the computers and only those computers can connect to your network, even if someone gets your netwokr password.
As far as WEP setting etc and entering the password on the PC if you are password protected, I can't help much... here's what I do...
Under the Airport tab, I have mine set to 128 bit WEP. Then clicking on the "Password" icon on the top of the window gives a really log Hex password to enter into windows.
On my pc, I click the little wireless network icon in the bottom right of the screen.
    I clickView wireless Networks
I click on the MY network, then click the link on the left "change advanced settings"
On the "Wireless etwork Connection" window I click the tab "Wireless Networks"
If my network is in the list already I select it and click Properties, if not, I click Add
Here's the important part that I had trouble with due to crummy documentation:
    Under "Association" tab:
    Network Authentication: Open
    Data encryption: WEP
Network key : that REALLY long hex code
    Key index(advanced): 1
then clicked OK and it worked.
    Good luck.

  • Two libraries on one drive, music co-mingled, want to separate:

    Here is my situation:
I have two libraries, lets call one Lossy, and the other Lossless.
The Lossy library is ~140GB of 192-364kbps AAC files and a few mp3's. I use this library to sync all the family iPods and it also has all our ripped and downloaded movies and TV shows that feed the Apple TV.
The other library is all my CD's ripped to Lossless ALAC files. Music only.
I initially was forced to move the first (Lossy) library to another drive as the main drive was full. I have four drives on my computer, so no biggie. I used the methodology outlined in the tutorials and everything went fine.
The iTunes library file for the lossy library remains in the main drive in the iTunes folder. Only the media file is on the secondary drive.
When I started ripping my CD's to lossless format, I placed the iTunes library file on the same drive as the iTunes Media folder for the lossy music, but designated a new folder (Lossless Music) as the media folder.
iTunes outsmarted me, and without my noticing, it put the music media into the existing Media folder on that drive. To compound matters, I didn't double check the Library name when switching back and forth, and iTunes started calling both libraries Lossless. The result was that Lossless files started to infiltrate my Lossy library.
So basically, for the most part, when I select the Lossless library, I get mainly Lossless tunes. However, when I select the Lossy library, I see a lot of Lossless files.
So, I figure I need to physically separate each library to separate drives. I moved the Lossless media to my HP Windows Home Server, however copies of most of the files remain on the previous drive (ie they were copied to the WHS).
I would like to completely separate the libraries and get all the orphan files that sit on the main drive (used by iTunes when the resident drive that the Media Folder resides on doesn't respond fast enough). If I use a vacant drive and move the Lossy library (and accompanying music, movies, TV shows, Apps, et al) to the open drive, do I run the risk of polluting that library with Lossless files that share the old media files folder? ie does hitting "Consolidate" include every file in that folder, lossy and lossless?
If there is a risk, any suggestions for a methodology for separating the lossless from lossy files and then consolidating clean libraries?
Thanks, and I hope this isn't too confusing.
In the future, the Lossless library will only be on the WHS for playing by two Roku music players and a Squeezebox Touch.
Thanks and sorry to be long winded...

  • Managing Two Libraries With Time Capsule

    Hi,
I just got a Time Capsule and an iPhone. I already have an iPod. The space on my Hard Disk is running low - mainly due to a large iTunes music selection and large number of photos.
My question is this. Is there any way for me to manage two libraries - a small one (that will merge with my 8GB iPhone) that remains on my mac, and a large one (that merges with my 60GB iPod) on the Time Capsule? I know that I can create these two libraries, but every time I rip a new album, or download something from iTunes, I would like them to download to both libraries.
Is there a simple solution to sync certain sections of two libraries?
    The same goes for iPhoto.
    Thanks,
    Matt

I have a similar situation. I have a 8gb ipod touch and a 30gb ipod video. I only have one library and what I did was to have the video sync with my entire library (about 25 gb). For the touch, I have it sync only playlists that I select. (You can edit how a ipod syncs when you connect to the computer) this setting is under the music tab.
If you want to move the library off the computer, make sure you follow apple's instructions.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1449
For the photos, each ipod can be setup to either sync the entire library or selected events. the settings for this are under the photo tab.

  • One mac, two Apple id's and sharing iTunes media

HI everyone, i have already googled this but I can't seem to get a straight forward answer so here goes,
until recently my wife was the only one with an Apple ID as she has an iPod Classic and an ipad. We were syncing these with an old windows laptop. I have now purchased an imac and setup my own apple id and imported our entire music collection into my iTunes library.
I have created anorther mac user for my wife and i Now want to setup iTunes for her, but I would like to use the same music library? I need her to be able to make purchases under her Apple ID and download purchased music to the library so that I can see any new music also and vice versa . This means we would see the same playlists etc.
Can can this be done? or do I have to maintain two libraries?
    thanks
    mike

Recommendation:  Make sure you have all your media backed up on a separate drive at all times.  Using multiple Apple IDs on one computer can cause problems when it comes to re-downloading media (see the "re" -- many people do not.  This does not apply to new purchases, just re-downloading or using iTunes Match).
