Two macbook pro computer sealing setup

Ok my wife just called me. She has a 17"macbook pro and a student has a 15" macbook pro. They are in the same room. When the student boots her computer it comes up saying it is my wife's computer. when it tries to open office it says a copy already open. I told her to shut down airport and when she reboots it stills says it is my wife's computer.
What is going on here? Which I was there.

It would be helpful if you provided the OSX you are using and what if anything you may have tried to rectify the situation.

  • I have two MacBook Pros. Can I use one Apple ID?

I have two MacBook Pros and I really would like to use just one Apple ID. Can I link my facetime (and imessage) to my phonenumber on both or just on one computer? My phone number is linked to my apple id already and I have it linked to one macbook. I just want to know if I can do that for both.

You can link up to 10 devices and 5 computers with your apple id for iTunes, and one will work for FaceTime or Messages just fine on both of your computers :-)

  • Moving an older Macbook Pro HD to a newer MacBook Pro computer

Hi, I have two MacBook Pros; one model is a 2007 version, and the other model is the slightly updated 2008 version (they are both Intel Core 2 Duos but the newer one has some updated specs).
I would like to take the hard drive in the older computer and use it to physically replace the one in the newer computer.  Will this cause any problems?  Once I do this, for example, when I select the "about this mac" info, will it pull up the info from the newer computer? Or will it be confused and pull up the older info? In addition, will I need to update any software/drivers/etc.?
    Many thanks!
    John

It will work only if you have a Mac OS X version in the old computer which is newer than the Mac OS X version which came with your newer MacBook. If not, Mac OS X will not start up.
As you are using Mac OS X 10.5.8, this should work correctly. After doing it, your system information will be the same, but you will see the applications and drivers information of your old computer. However, serial numbers, the UUID... will be the same because they are in your logic board

  • Double backup two MacBook Pros each physically connected to their own external disks?

We have two MacBook Pros 17" (an early 2008 and a late 2011) connected by WiFi, both running OSX 10.9.3 and each physically connected to their own My Book external disks.  After I started the first MacBook Pro's backup to add the second MacBook Pro's external disk, I couldn't set up the second MacBook Pro's backup to add the first MacBook Pro's external disk.  Each of these My Book external disks had previously been used for backing up each MacBook Pros.  None of the help pages helped.

On the computer to which the drives are connect enable File Sharing via Sharing preferences. Select the drives you want shared and CTRL- or RIGHT-click then select Get Info from the contextual menu. In the upper pane is a checkbox labeled "Shared." Check the box to enable sharing the device.
On the other computer select Connect to Server from the Finder's Go menu. Click on the Browse button to locate the shared computer. Double-click on the icon which should bring up a login dialog. Log into the admin account of the shared computer using the Registered User button. You will then be prompted for the admin password of the account. Enter it and click on the OK button. This should connect you and provide access to the shared computer and devices connected to it that have been marked as shared.
For more help select Mac Help from the Finder's Help menu and search for "file sharing."

THank you Ogelthorpe. When my wife's computer I went on line to the site that you sent and tried everything But nothing worked. When my son came to visit and his MacBook Pro did exactly the same thing we became suspicious - too much of a coincidence. We took both computers somewhere else, out of our apartment, and they both booted. We ran disk utility on both, but the report in both cases was that there are no issues with the hard drive.  Back in our apartment neither will boot up. My MacBook Pro is a later model with a solid state drive and it seems to work fine here.. I tried an external drive and it works fine. We think that this has something to do with some kind of magnetic interference in our apartment to which the 2009  drives are susceptible.  It is indeed a mystery!

  • Merge documents from two MacBook Pros preserving Time/Date stamp?

    Hi all,
I have two MacBook Pros with the same user account and would like to merge all of the documents to one of them while preserving the time/date stamp of the documents.  One is 10.6 the other 10.8 but I'm only concerned about the documents.  I would consider a third party utility if one were recommended.
    Thanks everyone,
    Phil

Migration Assistant creates a new user account to which your user files are restored. The easiest way for you to recovery from this situation would be to boot into Recovery (command-R at startup), erase the boot volume and install OS X again, and then follow the prompts in Setup Assistant (not Migration Assistant) to transfer your data from a Time Machine backup. If you don't want to do that, there are other ways, but it's more complicated.
Another thing you should realize is that your internal drive is suspect. It has seriously malfunctioned once. That may be all the warning you'll get of an impending failure.

  • Final Cut Studio - Install on Two Macbook Pros?

I just purchased the academic version of Final Cut Studio. I have been reading the forums and have discovered that it is possible to install this on one desktop and one laptop, and both work as long as you are not working on them at the same time.
However, I have not been able to find if it is possible to install Final Cut Studio on two Macbook Pros. Does it have to be one desktop and one laptop or is it limited to two installations total? The license agreement says one desktop and one laptop, however how would it know if it were two laptops?
    Thank you for your feedback.

Used by you doesn't mean used by someone else that doesn't own the computer
I'm an editor. Been one for several years. Any company I've worked for and edited with FCP has been on the company's computer and software, not owned by me. Are you saying that an editor for a company is expected to purchase their own computer and software in order to edit for a cooperation? Unlikely. A freelance or independent editor may have their own system that they edit on, but I am talking about an editor as an employee at a cooperation (where personal computers are restricted) or Macs and software that are available at an educational institution like an Apple Authorized Training Center.
I went to Apple Campus as a requirement of becoming ACT and "used" Final Cut pro on a computer that was not owned by me. Several others have done this and will continue to do so because it's a loophole that is apparently intended in the SLA for these reasons. Unless you're saying that Apple is breaking their own SLA agreement and advising others to do so in their training facility requirements which states:
    The AATC is responsible for:
    • Providing all hardware and software described in this document
The definition of the word "used" in this circumstance begs further clarification. Until that happens one can assume that the ordinary circumstance of its meaning for this situation is open to various interpretations.
OK so let's say I agree with your comment even if I don't. It still doesn't mean that if I owned a laptop and desktop that I can't use both at the same time according to the SLA. Only that they can't both be used at the same time over a network. So If I was encoding or rendering video on my desktop I could still use the laptop to edit at the same time.

  • Can two Macbook Pro's share the same Itunes folder(all media in Ituens) on an external drive (like Time Capsule)? How and what issues may arise?

Hey, I have two macbook pros (250 gb). They are both running out of space. My first thought was to share an iphoto library off of Dropbox or our Time Capsule. But, I heard that if one file gets corrupted (interenet cuts out, for example) then the whole library gets corrupted. Well, we're full again and now I am wondering if I could move our Itunes folders to our Time Capsule, sync/sort them both so there won't be any duplicates and then use this as a shared itunes library. So first, is this possible? Both computers share the same itunes account.
Second, if I do, and I purchase a song, show, whatever, does it automatically be added to the itunes library on our Time Capsule and then it is available for both computers to access? Or do  I need to "import" it on both?
Third, does the "file corruption" issue listed above pertain to itunes?
I saw a discussion about this but it was form 2008. I am sure things have changed a bit since then.
    Thanks for the help!

    No.

  • Is there a way to use two macs to run one app? I want to use my two macbook pros processors in a shared capacity.

I have two macbook pros a 2.4ghz and a 2.2ghz. Is there a way to use the other macbook pro to help with any cpu intensive apps like audio and video apps. I haven't had much luck on finding anything about sharing resources. It would be awesome if you could link up two macs and use both of them to power through processor intensive tasks.

    Yep here you go.

  • My Airport wireless is working for my two MacBook Pros and my daughter's iPod, but our iPad, Iphone and other iPod all say they need to set up an Airport Base Station but do not have the proper software.  I'm not sure what to do to remedy this situation.

My Airport wireless is working for my two MacBook Pros and my daughter's iPod, but our iPad, Iphone and other iPod all say they need to set up an Airport Base Station but do not have the proper software.  I'm not sure what to do to remedy this situation.

This might sound like a silly question, but are you sure the iOS devices (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch etc.) are still trying to connect to the same network from your own Airport router, as the MacBook Pros are? If you tap Settings on them, is the network name next to where it says Wi-Fi, the right one?
I've got a weird feeling that either in the past couple of days, a neighbour got an Airport device and hasn't set it up yet (causing your iOS devices to try to help), or that perhaps there's an issue with your Airport router and they're noticing it and trying to help out, while for whatever reason, Airport Utility isn't opening itself on the MacBook Pros like it normally should if there's a problem.
If you open Airport Utility on one of the MacBook Pros, does it report any problems with your Airport device, and can you view/edit the settings on it?

  • Can I connect my 35 mm film camera to my MacBook pro computer?

Hello.  I would like to know if I can input images from my 35 mm film camera  to my MacBook Pro computer.  Is the use of a scanner the only answer?  If I purchase a digital camera, I would like to have one that requires low energy from a battery.  I am looking for one that has 12 megapixels of resolution and has an adjustable focal length from 25mm to 180 mm.  I read that digital cameras require much energy from a battery.  And I would prefer to use a small battery over one that is a NiMh or is a lithium ion.

but an AM Vantage is also cool (and much cheaper)
There you go: This is my new (demo model 2008 with 4,500 Kilometers) Vantage.  The actual car and photo the day I took it from the dealer in Vancouver.  Just have to figure out if i can change my name from Bimmer to Vantage in this forum.

  • New Mobile Account works on only one of two MacBook Pros

I am setting up mobile accounts for my small company. I have two accounts, two MacBook Pros and one MacMini with OS X Snow Leopard Server. One mobile account works fine on both of my portables and the other one only works on one of the portables.
On the portable that does not allow the creation of the mobile account I get a message at logon stating "Unable to create mobile account... There was a problem creating your mobile account".
The /var/log/secure.log on the MacBook Pro has these entries:
loginwindow[46]: Login Window - Returned from Security Agent
loginwindow[46]: AuthorizationRef returned an error (-60006), with username = randy.kahle
loginwindow[46]: This indicates that a SecurityAgent plugin has returned something other than errAuthorizationDenied (usually cancelled) after the auth record is set up.
All of the entries in secure.log indicate that authentication was fine and the home directory mounts occurred correctly.
Both the OS X 10.6.4 server and client have the latest software updates.

Yup, that did the trick.  The other Macbook had sharing on.
    Thanks

  • HT1420 I use two MacBook pro, two iPads and two iPhones. Upon connection and attempt to synchronize photos I receive a message that my authorization limit is exceeded. I read that iOS devices do not count against the authorization limit.

I use two MacBook pro, two iPads and two iPhones. Upon connection and attempt to synchronize photos I receive a message that my authorization limit is exceeded. I read that iOS devices do not count against the authorization limit. One iPhone and one iPad show in the authorization list. iTunes wants to delete my purchased programs and books from the iPad to continue synchronization. What can I do?

Ok, now I do wish I could edit....
I forgot to APPLY the network settings for the USB cable to work. Connected thru USB I can tether.
So, I kept playing, and playing some more...
I had previously unpaired everything, and gone as far as removing network devices HOWEVER...
I didn't remove the Ethernet, Firewire or Airport Network devices.
Now, I have done so. I REMOVED EVERYTHING
    No pairing, no network devices.
Bluetooth was already turned off, and I rebooted.
I turned off tethering and rebooted the iphone.
I turned on bluetooth (on the MBP), I turned on tethering. I browsed for the iphone. It said I was already paired???? Ok, repair AGAIN, and THE IPHONE SHOWED MY BLUETOOTH TETHERING BLUE BAR at the top of the screen!
I opened a web page, no go... d4mn, I was close...
Opened network preferences and the created a new bluetooth PAN and voila! Internet back on the MBP. I am about to reinstall the ethernet and airport (I can live without firewire for now) and see what happens.
Basically, the link I posted two posts ago, I had already done that, but I NEEDED to remove ethernet, firewire and airport as well...
So MAYBE it's fixed, we'll see for how long. I'm not going to mark this as answered for now, because basically, it has failed for no reason, and I want to know why...
Hopefully someone can come up with something, but having to delete and reinstall all pairings and network devices (to me) is not really a solution, it's a workaround (at best).
