THank you Ogelthorpe. When my wife's computer I went on line to the site that you sent and tried everything But nothing worked. When my son came to visit and his MacBook Pro did exactly the same thing we became suspicious - too much of a coincidence. We took both computers somewhere else, out of our apartment, and they both booted. We ran disk utility on both, but the report in both cases was that there are no issues with the hard drive. Back in our apartment neither will boot up. My MacBook Pro is a later model with a solid state drive and it seems to work fine here.. I tried an external drive and it works fine. We think that this has something to do with some kind of magnetic interference in our apartment to which the 2009 drives are susceptible. It is indeed a mystery!

I've tried this on multiple products so I believe its specific to iTunes not a particular device.Same thing here- Get the email but nothing but the Inside featurette. It's really annoying. In fact I can't even download it normally using the check for available downloads feature! Every time I do that iTunes tries to download doubles of three Walking Dead episodes I've already downloaded. I don't want what I already have, I just want the new episode.

Why does the apps store not accept my ID and password, it works fine to log into this forum and it works for the apple store, but not to log in to buy apps, it just keeps telling me that the id or password is wrong, and I know it isn't

Can I customise a macbook pro if I order it from an apple store but not the online store?
I would be coming to Melbourne. I plan to buy a macbook pro with the retina display there. However I would need to customise it ( I plan to add some extra RAM and upgrade the processor). Ordering from the online store would be a bit inconvenient since I wont have a permanent address for a few days and I would need a laptop pretty soon. Will I be able to buy a customised one from an apple store itself? I dont mind waiting for a day or two actually.

Why Does Spongebob Typing Work at Apple Store But Not at Home?
I had read reviews warning that The Learning Company/Broderbund/Encore SpongeBob Typing was incompatible with Leopard and/or Intel Macs. When I went to my Apple Store to get some typing software for my daughter, they recommended the app to me, and I auditioned it without issues on the store's (Intel, obviously) children's-area iMacs running 10.5.6.
I bought it, brought it home, and it won't run properly at all on either of our Intel MacBooks. It runs fine on the G5 my employer has loaned me, though that's not available for regular personal use. All of our machines run 10.5.6, so, er, huh? How come it works in the store on their Intel machine?
Today I visited a second Apple Store, also running SpongeBob on their kids iMacs, and noticed they're actually running a slightly-renamed "Spongebob Typing and Spelling," a version that's not exactly the one they sold me after all, and here's an even weirder thing: It doesn't seem to be available for sale anywhere. I see no sign it exists except on the Apple Store iMacs.
Can anyone shed some light on this?It's almost the same. I have a slightly different box, and the Apple Store sticker refers to it as the "2008" version of the program. I read the earlier post with interest.
Am I absolutely sure that the Apple Store iMacs are Intel and running Leopard? No, but it's really hard to imagine they're not. They sure look like current iMacs, which means Intel, unless there are some secret PPC glass iMacs, which, seriously... And after posting my first email I'm thinking Leopard's not the issue since it runs on the 10.5.6 G5 (Hm, if Leopard's not the issue, where should I be posting this? Moderator, help?)
Also, as I say, the version they're running adds "and Spelling" to the title—it seems otherwise identical as far as I was able to tell—so I'm increasingly thinking the store's demoing one thing and selling another. Maybe the vendor has given Apple a pre-release of an upcoming, unannounced version it hasn't quite gotten around to releasing. Maybe (I'm hoping this) there's a patch available in some obscure place. -
3G can catch wifi in apple store but not anywhere else
So I upgraded my 3G to OS4.0 a few weeks ago and like many others have experienced, my wifi has gone DEAD right after the upgrade. No networks show up whatsoever. I have spent hours going through this forum and google, only to find out that there's no solution for it and some have even resorted to putting the phone in the freezer
I was just about to give up on the problem thinking it's a hardware issue, but today I happen to pass an apple store. I explained my problem to one of the Apple consultants and as soon as he touched it there was the wifi!!! He didn't understand why it didn't work at my dorm (on college campus) and told me to come back and try.
So here I am back at my dorm again with the same old problem - it can't find any wifi. This is getting really frustrating and I do hope I can find a solution for it. The fact that it worked at Apple Store shows that it's not a hardware issue, but what is it!!! It was able to find my campus network before I upgraded it, so I don't think it has anything to do with campus network having a weak signal. Arghhhh I hate apple. If anyone knows how to solve this please please let me know.So I tried using my macbook pro to share internet to the iphone, and the phone can detect the network! I'm guessing my campus network and several hundred other networks around me are too far to be detected? But how close must you be for it to work!? it's unbelievable that I live right in the city where there are hundreds of wifi detected on my laptop but none on my iphone

We're trying to keep all issues in that thread so there's one major thread for this problem GeorgeVargas suggested we log the details of our ATV so we can get a picture of all the models and software versions affected. It will also make it easier for Apple to reiview this issue.

My 1 year and 1 month old iPhone 4s developed a WiiFi fault which it was not possible to resolve. I visited the Apple store in Brighton for the assistance of a Genius. He too was unable to resolve the fault. He said that as the phone was over a year old that there was nothing that he could do for me as the phone carries a 1 year warranty. He offered to sell me a reconditioned iPhone 4s as a replacement. This cost me a further £150.00. I was/am still paying for the phone through my contract, the phone that I no longer have!
A work collegue had a similar fault with his iPhone, although his phone was older by approx 6 to 10 months. He did what I did and visited the local Apple store to see a Genius and was straight away offered a brand new replacement phone for no additional payment.
Has anyone else had a similar experience and does anyone have any advice? I am furious about this double standard of customer support! And I can not find a way to email to Apple directly for customer service advice!Thank you for your advice. If I lived closer to the store I would do just that. By using the forum it was not my intention to breach any TOS.
I speak to collegues and people advise me to email to Apple. They say that Apple always looks after its customers. I only wish to find a way to email to Apple to see if there is anything that they can do for me. I suspect not.
You regular forum users appear to me to be well versed Apple device users and as such maybe you could point me in the right direction to be able to email to customer support as I can not find a link! -
Hi, my friend wanted to see if she could access my music library whilst in my home. She typed my account info (ID) into her phone but was unable to access the music. However, when she comes into my home and she picks up my wi fi signal I get her contact list in my phone and smetiimes her pictures. On her phone under icloud settinigs is my ID. Is it ok for her to delete the account from her phone without it affecting mine in any way?
This is great thank you. She may may able to access my account when she hits other wifi signals but she doesn't have that in her own home so it only becomes apparent when she visits me. I originally gave her my apple id when she asked if she could access my iTunes library but even after she put my id in she wasn't able to for some reason. Then months later after she had visited me I noticed there were pictures in my camera role and her contacts were in my phone. I deleted them and advised her to turn off wi fi when she was in mine which she does. However last night when she was over she showed me that my account id was in her icloud settings and at the bottom as you highlight it says in red 'delete account' and I was afraid that if she did that it would wipe my account off too. Does this make more sense in some wayas to whats happened? I really appreciate your help in this matter because Im not that confident with stuff kike this as you can guess.

Have you tried starting up in Safe Mode (hold shift key at startup)?
If that doesn't work, try starting in Recovery mode (hold command r at startup) and run Disk Utility to repair your disk. -

Just figured it out! Here it goes:
Click on where you find the little AirPort sign (on iMac it is on top right hand side next to the date and time).
Go down to: Open Network Preferences
Click on: Advanced
Then on DNS
Then click on the + sign and put the following numbers: 8.8.8.8
click again on the + sign and put: 8.8.4.4

Macbook pro (late 2009) freezes at desktop screen

I have a macbook pro late 2009 model 17 inch, running Lion 10.7.3
every now and then (once per ten boots) I have a specific freezing issue, after booting and loading the desktop screen and icons, mouse cursor is moving but I can't do anything more, the only think that works is a hard reset from the power button. I tried by re-installing Lion but the problem persists. I observed that this is also usually happens when I restarting from Bootcamp (windows) to OS.
Any idea or suggestion?See this article. You might have damaged software, and you'll have to reinstall from the recovery mode, depending on which version of OSX you have.
