Two MacBooks, Two Users, One MobileMe Family account

My wife and I both have MacBooks (different ones). We have a MobileMe Family account. Each laptop uses are unique MobileMe names, address books, calendars, etc... (i.e. I have an account, she has a MobileMe account). We both also have our own iPhone linked to these accounts respectively.
We also have a 'joint' MobileMe account (email and calendar only). This same joint account is the iTunes account for both of us.
We are still on MobileMe. I see lots of people having problems.
One problem I anticipate we will have is: How will iCloud know how to sync our accounts between hers, mine, and ours? There apparently is only one setting: ON and OFF.
We want our individual MobileMe accounts syncing email and calendars from our MacBooks and iPhones -- but our Joint account (iTunes, email, calendar) syncing to us both.
Is this going to be a mess on iCloud?
Thanks for any tips on how to better prepare for the conversion.

Roger,
Thanks for the reply.
I think I understand what you are saying.
I am wondering why the iCloud would be device-dependent. For instance, we have in our home two MacBooks, two iPhones, one iPad, one AppleTV. So, somewhat preciently knowing we'd eventually have more Apple devices, our main account (esp for iTunes) is our joint account. Joint email, calendar, and iTunes/iBooks content. Works great.
So, if we had a family with children with their own accounts, would it then not be possible for each person to have their own accounts and iCloud syncing off of, say, one home computer?
I recall in Steve Jobs's presentation that they 'demoted' the computer to just a device served by iCloud (much like the iPhone, iPad, etc... So, if an iPad can have multiple MobileMe accounts, as a MacBook may, why couldn't iCloud sync them all?
Thanks for the instruction -- just trying to figure out how to get things set up when we go to iCloud (we haven't turned it on yet for this reason).
I see in the discussions forums loads of issues from people switching over.
Maybe the right way to do it is each MacBook retains their accounts. Same with the iPhones. But turn off the other, shared accounts. Turn on iCloud...let it see everything, get synced: Computer A with iPhone A with iCloud Account A (email and contacts only). And Computer B with iPhone B with iCloud Account B (email and contacts only). Then add in the shared iCloud Account (email/calendar/iTunes only).
Thoughts?
Chris

  • Mobileme family account - problems using Ichat

    Hi all!
I have problems with my mobileme family account - using Ichat.
I´m the master account ( e.g. named A ), my wife ( e.g. named B ) has one of the other free 4 family accounts.
At office I have an Imac with Ichat logged in under name "A" and my wife at home has a MBP with Ichat logged in as name "B".
When I´m at the office I´m not able to see if my wife is online or not - even I cannot make a video call to her because "her contact" is offline.
Sometimes a message pops up : AIM is telling me that I´m ( name "A" ) online on two different locations at the same time !?
Do I make something wrong or is it really not possible with a mobileme family account to use Ichat for all family accounts ?
EDIT: I just recognized that at my wife´s MBP she is logged in with her email address. When I click on that email address I see "Pseudonym/ID" - and if I change that to "name" ... my name appears instead of hers - very strange
Thank you for your help and sorry for my strange English
    Gregor

    Hi,
The answer to this is that the regular posters only get here at certain times of day.
I am here about 4 hours of so most evenings (about 17 hours after you first posted).
Defcom does sometimes get here early afternoon his time (Same as mine).
We were not ignoring you, we just weren't here.
As Defcom has said it is about whether the accounts/Email IDs are Aliases or not.

  • HT4898 MobileMe family account question

My wife has a MobileMe family account email address - I want to make sure I don't lose her email when I switch to iCloud.   Anything I should know or do before I switch?

    mydogisnamedbo wrote:
I am don't want to make final switch until I am sure her emails will transfer.
Migrate her account at http://me.com/move and sign in at System Preferences>iCloud (Lion required) if she has her own Mac or user account: if she is using your user account and it's already signed in, add her at System Preferences>Mail, Contacts & Calendars.
If you need to change the password, do so at http://applied.apple.com and then of course in System Preferences. Make sure the new pasasword has at least 8 characters, at least one of which is a capital, one lower case, and one a numeral.

  • Two iPhoto libraries sharing one mobileme account

    Hi,
I use my macbook pro as my main iPhoto library where I download photos off my camera, use events, create folders and publish to my mobileme gallery. I then have a old iMac that I use as a media centre where its iPhoto library subscribes to each mobileme gallery using the RSS feeds and pushes those photos out to my Apple TV. That all works a treat.
The problem I have though is that both machines use the one mobileme account (so things like urls, dock icons etc are synchronised) which means that the iMac iPhoto library displays all the mobileme galleries (published from my MacBook Pro) and downloads all the photos. this essentially doubles the size of the iPhoto library.
Is there a way where I can turn off the retrieving of mobileme galleries on my iMac so that the only photos I get is via the RSS feeds?
    Hope someone can help
    Stewart

I have a similar issue, and hope someone can help.
I have two MacBooks, each has iPhoto. I do not want all the albums on the molible me account to be on both machines. Can I set something so only albums I want are scyned??

  • Two iPhones tied to one Exchange Online Account, duplicating contacts

I have a user that has two iPhones and an iPad syncing to his Exchange Online account. He has all the devices syncing using activesync. He has an issue where it duplicates all of his contacts on his phones, and duplicates again, and duplicates again until he has more than five copies of each contact on each of his iPhones. This is only happening on the phones, not the iPad or the Contacts online or in Outlook. This morning I removed all the Sync accounts from his two iPhones and his iPad and set them up one by one and tested to make sure they didn't replicate. The tests went fine and there weren't any issues. This afternoon when he went to add a new contact, it started syncing multiple copies of each contact and does so on each phone. The iPad and one iPhone are on iOS 5.0 and on iPhone is on iOS 4.0.

After digging through forum after forum this seems to be an issue with iOS 5, or iOS in general, more than about Office 365/Exchange Online. There are numerous Google threads about using ActiveSync and Gmail that result in the same issue. This really seems to be an Apple issue. Has anyone received feedback from anyone at Apple about this? From those that have on other forums there is just finger pointing between Apple and Microsoft and Apple and Google, none of them are taking responsibility for this.

  • Two individual icloud users one computer

My wife and I recently purchased 4S phones and I'm trying to get my head around using icloud. Before I update to Lion for my imac, I want to make sure that what I'm hoping for is achievable.
Currently we share a home calendar and contacts, but each have independent home e-mail, work e-mail, work calendars, and work contacts accessed through an exchange server. On our phones I'd like to be able to blend our shared home information with each of our individual work accounts. As part of the setup process we each set up an icloud account. I've seen posts here and there about one computer not being able to update two accounts. Is this a problem that would affect me? Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi, and welcome to the Palm Community Forums.
You should have no problems synchronizing two Palms to the same desktop...Palm Desktop is built for that.  Just make sure that each device has a unique Hotsync ID.  When you connect each device for the first time, Palm Desktop will prompt you to create a new Hotsync ID, or select an existing one.  If you are upgrading from previous Palm OS devices (either phones or PDAs), it's important to also do a little extra *before* you install the new Palm Desktop software.  This thread discusses the upgrade procedure and links you to the Upgrade Guide:

No Palm OS phones, including the 755p, have Wi-Fi capabilities, so your wireless router won't come into play as far as the Palms are concerned.

  • Two coc villages in one game center account -- how do i get rid of the new one?

I badly need your help guys. Im frustrated already with this problem on my coc. Here is the situation. I already have a coc account on my iphone 4g, then i signed in my game center account on my aunt's ipad and downloaded coc, thinking it would automatically load my village and i could play on larger screen. But it did not happened, insted, it created a new village using my game center account. Now the problem is everytime I open my village on my iphone and the welcome note pops up, there follows the notification saying, "do you want to load chief $&@$&@'s village with town hall level $&@? Warning: progress in the current game will be lost."---- how do I get rid of the new village without losing the progress on my old village?

I do not want to half to install things into my PC that i do not trust! I just want this gone and like i said Firefox should of given us the choice to add this and not forced us, because if there is no actual way to remove it then il be forced to remove Firefox till they either remove it or allow us to remove it!

  • Two iPhones, two computers, one family MobileMe account

My wife has an iPhone and a MacBook. I have an iPhone and a MacBook Pro. We have separate IDs on one MobileMe family plan. Up til now when I update my iCal on my Mac it shows up in her iCal on her Mac and visa-versa. But the only way to get that information to our phones is to hard sync each phone to each computer. Is it now possible when I update one of my devices it will go to all of her devices and all of mine, and when she updates one of her devices the information will wirelessly to to all of both our devices? If so how is this setup?

  • New Mobile Account works on only one of two MacBook Pros

I am setting up mobile accounts for my small company. I have two accounts, two MacBook Pros and one MacMini with OS X Snow Leopard Server. One mobile account works fine on both of my portables and the other one only works on one of the portables.
On the portable that does not allow the creation of the mobile account I get a message at logon stating "Unable to create mobile account... There was a problem creating your mobile account".
The /var/log/secure.log on the MacBook Pro has these entries:
loginwindow[46]: Login Window - Returned from Security Agent
loginwindow[46]: AuthorizationRef returned an error (-60006), with username = randy.kahle
loginwindow[46]: This indicates that a SecurityAgent plugin has returned something other than errAuthorizationDenied (usually cancelled) after the auth record is set up.
All of the entries in secure.log indicate that authentication was fine and the home directory mounts occurred correctly.
Both the OS X 10.6.4 server and client have the latest software updates.

Yup, that did the trick.  The other Macbook had sharing on.
    Thanks

  • Publish separate sites to one MobileMe account?

I manage several sites from my laptop, which runs iWeb '08. I have just started using iWeb '09 on my desktop at work, and absolutely love it - not to mention that my work computer doesn't freeze up whenever I try to work on complicated sites. I would like to publish the sites I'm working on at work to my MobileMe account, which my other iWeb '08 sites are published on. If the sites have different names, will that be a problem? Or if I publish will it only put up the sites from my work computer and delete everything else? This is terribly confusing. I would like to keep everything up until replacement sites are made, and this would solve my problem so immensely! Any input you have would be huge!

Perhaps I was not clear in my first post...
I have one MobileMe (.mac) account, which I currently have five sites hosted on. These sites were built in iWeb '08. I have had no problems with hosting multiple sites on MobileMe, so I'm not sure what you mean when you say that this is not possible.
I have built a sixth site in iWeb '09 on a different computer than my other five sites are built/stored on. I would like to publish this site to my MobileMe account as well - just add it to the roster, if you like. It has a different name than my other sites, so presumably if I sign into my MobileMe account on that computer, it would publish the site alongside the others, correct? I just don't want to publish this new site and for some reason have it delete the other five sites already being hosted.

  • Using MobileMe Family Pack with iPad

I have a iPad and a MobileMe Family Pack subscription.
Why can't I have more MobileMe mail accounts, but not have my Calendars and Contacts of more then one MobileMe member account?
I also would like to see user management on the iPad!
Is there a work around available?
    Thanks!

  • What happens to family account members after June 2012?

    Hi
I have a MobileMe Family Account which presently has two family members plus me using it. What will happen to their accounts after June 2012? Will they lose their account, do they have to setup their own soonest or will it automaticallt be converted?
    Thanks
    Herbert

The master account and each sub-account can be converted individually at http://me.com/move whereupon they will become individual iCloud accounts, completely independent of each other.
If doesn't matter which order you do this in; obviously if you migrate the masater account you can no longer administer the sub-accounts but they will continue to work.
Apple's documentation is confusingly worded and has led somen people to think they have to delete the sub-accounts first: do not do this.
Any MobileMe account which is not migrated by June 30th will disappear.

  • MobileMe family force upgrade to iCloud

When I updated to iOS 5 I upgraded my Mobile Me account to iCloud. It warned me that I would not be able to manage the other accounts associated with the MobileMe family account which was fine. It did NOT warn me that the other memebers of my family would not be able to use their accounts unless they upgraded. Is there any way to let them continue using Snow Leopard and iOS 4? There are software reasons to keep them on the older OSes.

    forand wrote:
... The other accounts are for my other family members, not extra email addresses I added to my MobileMe account. They are full accounts, or where under MobileMe.
Ok, I get that ( I never used MM so I don't know it's features or how the accounts are used ) .
The fact remains that icloud will only work with a single Apple-ID. Of course every member of your family could log in to www.icloud.com and move his/her old ID to become a icloud ID - but the whole syncing features will just be pointless. Everybody in your family then must own his/her own iOS5 device, as iOS5 is no "multi-user" system.
Also in order to sync more then one iOS5 device ( and/or to a Mac or PC ) all these devices and computers need to be singed in with one and the same Apple-ID or there simply is no syncing at all happening. This would limit icloud to be just backups of the account data to the cloud.
