Two Machines One Monitor

I have a graphic design business, and for a number of complicated reasons, I would like to be able to continue working on my G4 running System 9. I would like to add some additional possibilities and capabilities to my workspace, and the most economical and affordable way to do so (both money and space are at a premium) would be to add a MacMini to the equation. Is there any way possible that I could continue to use the large flat panel monitor I have, but add some sort of switching device so that I could sometimes use the Os9 G4, and other times the new Mac Mini with the existing Monitor/Keyboard/Mouse (not at the same time, of course). I believe there are multi-port switchers that allow two computers to hook up to one monitor, but I'm wondering if they could accept both an Os9 and an OsX system. Thank you.

Yes, see the KVM solutions here...

But, if it were me, I'd get a KB/Mouse for the Mini, and use one of these...

The reason for that, is the VGA switchbox will support up to 2048x1536, whereas DVI switchboxes generally are limited to 1280*1024 or even less. Also, OS would not enter into the equation.

  • Two machines, one user sync?

We now have two machines running Snow Leopard.
is there an elegant way to have one home user for both machines that syncs
    application support files?
    thanks
    ∞WES

    User>Library>Application Support>Address Book
    User>Library>Application Support>iCal
these folders contain all the input data info for the apps.
What I have done so far to sync is copy folder from one machine to the other,
so all the entries are accessible on each machine.
    my question is more specifically:
I entered an address in AddressBook on machine 1, is there a way to automate it showing up in my AddressBook on machine two?

  • Two computers -- one monitor

I have recently purchased a G5 upgrade desktop ... and before I put my old one on the market I need to transfer some files ... with one monitor, that means hooking and rehooking the screen, starting and restarting, etc.
Can't I mount the old one on the desktop of the new and copy files straight from one to the other? I can't remember how to do it --
    Can anyone help me out?
    thanks tons!!

If you can drag & drop the files, and have a FireWire cable,
you may be able to go into the old Mac via FW Target Disk
Mode (boot the old Mac into Target Disk & attach FW cable
to the newer Mac) and then look into there for files & folders.
The older Mac would appear as a hard disk drive, in FW TDM.

There also is a way to connect two Macs via one keyboard
and use one display; and share them. That would require a
KVM hardware to accomplish. And then, there is software
(included in some versions of OS X) to easily connect Macs.
So, depending on the level of involvement, complexity or cost
there are a few possible ways to access or move information.
One of them would be to use a Migration assistant as part of
setup of a second Mac, to bring in the user other user content.
Since I haven't had to do most of these, you probably have at
least a few options or ideas; including use a flash drive USB
to copy smaller files. Larger ones would be faster with FW.
Anyway, hopefully that works out OK.
    Good luck & happy computing!
PS: the earlier reply has a direct info path to file transfer using
the FW TDM setup; same in older OS X as in the 10.6 link given.

  • Two machines one app store account?!

can anyone help the newbie here?
i have an account with itunes and an account with the app store both under different names/logins.
i have a mac pro a macbookpro and an iphone.
do i need to log on to the APP STORE or to iTunes using the Mac Book Pro (which I use to sync to my iPhone) or can i pay for and download any apps from either machine when downloading form APP STORE?
thanks for any clarification on all of this.
    newbie...

the first is that i just downloaded an app to my MBP from the App Store using my account. how do i now use this app on my mac pro?
    Look in your Applications folder.
    Which app did you download?
also, i see that my App Store Login is the same as my Mac Forum Login and I am curious to know if this is by definition or if i basically made this happen myself (for instance my iTunes name and login is different).
This is your choice. You can have more than one Apple ID.
Be aware, the apps you download from the Mac App Store cannot be run on an iOS device (apps downloaded from iTunes) nor vice versa.

  • MDB in two machines problem.

              Hi all,
I have two machines one administration and the other managed. I have targeted a topic
to the admin server, and i need to deploy a MDB in both server, How can i do it ?
note: the topic cannot be deploy in multiple servers. I'm using weblogic6.0 sp2.
When a client sends a jms message I need that only one MDB catch it. I think in cluster

There are WebLogic extensions that allow specifying the JNDI URL and the connection
factory name that an MDB uses. Not sure what they are named.

Topic messages are replicated to each subscribing MDB pool. So if two pools
subscribe to the topic, they will each get a copy of each topic message. If you
want queue like behavior (no replication), replace the topic with a queue, or create an
              extra
MDB that forwards a subscribption into the queue.

  • Recommendations for switching between two machines and one monitor

    Hi,
I have a MacMini and a MacBook Air, both with Thunderbolt Display ports but I have one monitor. I'd like to switch between the two without having to unplug and plug the monitor back in every time. Any recommendations for some sort of switch or Thunderbolt hub would be greatly appreciated.
    Best,
    Chris

This should work if the display use display port/mini displayport inputs. A mini display port connectors plugs into the Mac's Thunderbolt port for video

  • Can I daisy chain two mac pros so that I'm using one monitor and keyboard

Can I use two mac pro's with one monitor, keyboard & mouse? The two different machines have two different operating systems (Snow Leopard / Lion). One machine is brand new and the other is 5 or 6 years old.
I want to use both machines in tandem so that I can leave something to render while I work on something else.

KVM is an answer -- maybe.  I use one for two machines to share one of my monitors (a VGA) and my keyboard (the second older machine seems to have sleep problems if I share a usb mouse on the kvm however).
The trickiest part of choosing a kvm is trying to find one that can handle the video; one that can handle the required bandwidth, and the connections.  If one computer uses, say DVI, and the other mini-displayport, then you need to figure out which kvm can handle that with one (or both) of the machines using adapter(s).
You said one of the machines is brand new.  Then it probably has thunderbolt.  So you would need a mini-displayport, dvi, or vga adapter depending on the monitor.  That means the older machine will need a similar connection since whatever kvm you get will have the same kind of ports for both inputs and its output.
A wild card here (at least in my mind) is if the newer machine has thunderbolt.  While a mini-displayport display can be plugged into a TB connection, it is not clear that such a thing will work through a kvm.  That is unknown territory I think at this point.

  • Bridge auto expands from one monitor to two when accessing folders

When I try to rename a folder Bridge auto expands from one monitor to two monitors and doesn't let me change the name. If I try to delete a photo it auto expands, lets me delete the photo but remains expanded across two monitors. This is a new experience I have had Bridge CC for about a year and this activity started on Friday. How do I prevent Bridge from automatically expanding across the two monitors?

A lot more information about your hardware and software is needed.
    BOILERPLATE TEXT:
If you give complete and detailed information about your setup and the issue at hand,
such as your platform (Mac or Win),
exact versions of your OS, of Photoshop (not just "CC", but something like CC2014.v.2.2) and of Bridge,
your settings in Photoshop > Preference > Performance
the type of file you were working on,
machine specs, such as total installed RAM, scratch file HDs, total available HD space, video card specs, including total VRAM installed,
what troubleshooting steps you have taken so far,
    what error message(s) you receive,
if having issues opening raw files also the exact camera make and model that generated them,
if you're having printing issues, indicate the exact make and model of your printer, paper size, image dimensions in pixels (so many pixels wide by so many pixels high). if going through a RIP, specify that too.
a screen shot of your settings or of the image could be very helpful too,

  • How to transfer from one mini to another without messing up either one. I have one monitor and two minis. I do have a firewire cable but don't want a complete transfer, just specific files.

I have done a complete fire wire transfer before but I don't want to do that. I only want to transfer certain files and leave the existing and new minis in tact otherwise. I am sure I can transfer just files. My question mostly is: I only have one monitor but will have two minis that are hooked up. Can this be done without seeing the other computer contents? I hope that makes sense. The existing mini is 10.5.8 and the new one is 10.6.

You can start one mac up in target disk mode, get file sharing set up and then disconnect the monitor.  Monitor ports are very tolerant of connecting and disconnecting with the computer on.
Switch the monitor to the other computer.  Start up, connect the firewire cable (after the computer has booted) and set up file sharing on that computer.  You can see the other computer's contents without controlling the other computer's mouse and/or keyboard.
If the other computer's hard drive does not automatically show up, go to network settings and verify those settings as well.  That should not be necessary but ethernet would give you a second option for file transfers.

  • Currently using Lightroom 5 as a standalone on a mac and two windows machines one desktop one laptop. with CC can i still use all the machines or do i have to take out an individual license for each?

with CC can i still use all the machines or do i have to take out an individual license for each?

Your LR5 license allows for activated installations on two machines.  Of those two machine, only one can be using the licensed software at a given time.  The same applies with CC, except with CC you won't be able to sneak in the third machine.  What you can do though with CC is have it installed on all three and sign in and out of the different machines as needed.
If you intend to be using all three machines at the same time then you do need three separate licenses/subscriptions to be in compliance with the license agreement.

  • Installed firefox on two machines and created sync account on one. The other one does not sync

I just freshly installed the latest Firefox on two machines. Created a new account on one of them and started to download some add-ons and changed the preferences, then got to the other and signed in. It finished syncing but none of my changes were applied to the second machine.

Right now the add-ons got synced but the customization I did to the looks of it did not.
These customizations are: moving the home button right next to the back button and removing the search bar.
Conclusion: it takes a while(about an hour!!!!!) to sync these stuff, at least that is what happened with me though my connection was normal and not slow at all.

  • IBNS with two groups of XP Machines, one PEAP-MSCHAPv2 & one EAP-TLS

    Hello,
I'm planning to implement a IBNS network. We have two groups of XP Machines. One group has machine certs and we're planning to check their certs using EAP-TLS. The second group of machines is managed by other departments, each having their own Active Directory, and configured with PEAP-MSCHAPv2. I'm not very familiar with this kind of setup, so hints are highly appreciated.
    1. Can I assume that, when properly configured, we can differentiate the authorizations per group (for exemple, at least two VLANs one for group 1 and another one for group 2 - I must at least seggregate the users per group and can't mix them in the same environment, since they belong two different departments).
    2. For the first group, no big issue. I can check against my central AD. For the users of the second group, since they can come from different departments, each having its own AD, can I differentiate them, by any means, to know which AD I'll have to query? Or do I have to query only one single AD? Is it required that all the users of group 2 belong to the same domain?
Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Two Mini Mac and One Monitor

    Hey everyone,
Whats the best one to do? I have two mini mac and one monitor with a WIRELESS (Bluetooth) keyboard and mouse...
    Should I get a KVM or Network,etc?
Or what is the best advice for me to get?
Im using one Mini Mac for work just as Photoshop and Lightroom ONLY,
Other mini mac for play around, download, internet search, etc
both 10.4.11 BUT will get Snow Leopard soon...
    1.66 Ghz Inter Core Duo
    and
cant remember the other Ghz as its shut down at the moment but higher then 1.66Ghz, Inter Core Duo
    Johnny

...with a WIRELESS (Bluetooth) keyboard and mouse...
Do you have a separate keyboard & mouse for the other Mac? Bluetooth keyboards and mice normally can only be paired to one device and since the Bluetooth receiver is built-in to the Macs, you normally can't attach your Bluetooth wireless keyboard/mouse to a KVM. (If you have a non-Bluetooth wireless keyboard/mouse with it's own dedicated receiver, then it's possible to use that with a USB KVM. But those are mostly PC keyboards/mice so most Mac people don't have such.)
So that basically eliminates KVM as a sharing device for you. Leaving just something like screen sharing to remote control one of the Macs. You probably will not like the way Photoshop and Lightroom work over screen sharing, so remote control just the "internet only" Mac, not the Photoshop Mac.
