Two memory modules

Hi, i have a K7T266 pro2, i use to have 256mb of pc2100. Now i bought another ram module a 256mb pc 2700. both from kingston. But my bios only shows 256 mb of ram, it does not read both modules at the same time. It accepts pc2700, so thats not the problem, but what is?.
Can this motherboard not accept when running pc2100 and pc2700 at the same time.(it can function, but it reads only 256)
thanx!

yes, i have tried all combinations, and it has no problem with the 2700 stick, when i run them at the same time the bios says that the other two slots are empty. sometimes it says the slot with the pc2700 is empty, and if i change combination it would say that the slot with pc2100 is empty.
so i dont now..

  • Changing memory modules in Satellite M30X-165

The Notebook has two memory modules with 512 MB each module. I have received a used 1 GB module.
Can I remove one of the 512 MB modules and install the 1 GB module to get total 1,5 GB RAM or need both modules the same memory size?

According notebook specification you can upgrade your machine up to 2GB of RAM so you can use one 1GB RAM and one module with 512MB. Important is that you use 100% compatible memory modules.
Just for your info: compatible PC2700 1GB memory module has part number PA3313U-1M1G.
Make upgrade, test it and post some feedback.

    TOSHIBA EQUIUM A110 PSAB2E-008006AV.
I have just replaced two memory modules both 516 mb with a 2gb module. Everything works fine. However, I have heard varying comments about maximum memory; I have been told that the maximum is 2gb, but I have heard elsewhere, that the laptop will take 3gb; if this is so, can I reinsert one of the 516 modules.

Max 4gig total.  2gig max per slot.  If you are running a 32bit OS then your effective limit is 3gig.  You can use one of the 512meg sticks with the 2gig stick as long as the 2gig is within spec (some of the cheaper ones aren't).
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

  • Blue screen when using 2 memory modules !!

    Hi,
When I use two memory modules (installed on bank 1 and 2), windows xp fails to install randomly (sometimes at the beginning, sometimes even after a rebooting...) and generates a blue screen of death... !
However, they are correctly visible at boot time.
But when I use only one module, it works fine (I tried with the first and the second module separately). These modules are strictly the same.
What should I do now ?
Just a remark : my FSB is at 100 Mhz. Is it normal ? (newbie question)
    Thanks

    120 Gb UDMA6 IDE master on IDE1
    80 Gb UDMA5 IDE slave on IDE1
DVD UDMA2 IDE master on IDE2
    Firewire disabled
RAID activated (but not used so far)
    LAN and Audio enabled

I think 300 watts is a way too SMALL for what your trying to run.  Check your label on the power supply and see what your 3.3 volt and 5 volt supply amperage is.  Anything less than 200 watts combined or about 28amps on 3.3 and 35 amps on the 5volt is going to give you grief.  You need a bigger power supply.  Recommend Antec or Enermax as the solution.  Antec SL350 or higher.

    Thanks
Actually I have installed one 8gb module on top of my existing TWO 2 gb factory in built modules. System is working fine though everywhere in the internet it is written that iMac mid 2011 ONLY supports maximum of 4 GB module per slot!!! Then how my system is working? Can I install one more 8gb Module?

The modules does not work on my HP Touchsmart 600-1050 sc desktop. Acc to HP specs it should support 2 x 4GB (max 8 GB in total).
But the computer does not start (I have installed the modules correct). The manufacturer advises me to update my BIOS.
I wanna ask you guys, before I try suhc a thing, is there any chance this could help?

  • Would I be better off mixing memory modules in my iMac rather than just having 1GB unused?

I have a late 2006 20-inch iMac that currently has two 1GB 200-pin PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 SO-DIMM modules installed. I recently bought two 2GB modules of the same type (different brand). Since I also have a macbook that uses the same type of memory (but 1GB total), I want to know how I can get the most speed with the momory I have for both computers (ie 4GB in an iMac that only recognizes 3GB and 2GB in the Macbook or 3GB in each). Thanks!

Matching 4GB in that iMac will give you a slight increase in preformance over 3GB.

  • Mixing Memory Modules

I just bought the MacPro with a 3.0ghz chip and let them ship with the standard two modules, 1GB each of 800 Pro 8-core memory. I bought (at 4 All Memory) four 2GB DDR2-800FB DIMM modules. Is there a reason not to leave the original two 1GB modules in place and just add the new memory?

If there are only two modules in the computer, one goes in slot 1 in each riser. Otherwise, matched pairs go in slots 1 and 2 of each riser, and when those are filled, in slots 3 and 4.
If the computer came with just two modules, one must be moved to slot 2 of the other riser when adding more memory. If it came with more than two modules, you don't have to move any. You will get best performance if both risers match, but don't remove modules just to make them match. More memory is always faster.
If you have four modules of one size, and four of another, put the larger in slots 1 and 2 of each riser, and the smaller in slots 3 and 4. Slots 3 and 4 are slightly slower, since their signals pass through the modules in slots 1 and 2. Putting the smaller modules in slots 2 and 4 means most memory will be in the faster slots.

  • Mixing memory modules of different sizes in a Mac Mini

I have a MM Intel Core Duo with a 1.66GHz processor and 512 MB 667 MHz SDRAM. Model Macmini1,1, 32 Bits, SMC Version (system): 1.3f4.
Anybody know if you can mix memory modules in it? I have the standard 256 modules (2) and would take one out and replace it with a 1 GB one. Can this be done?
    Thanks

Yes, you can do this. You will get a slight performance hit on video, but that will be more than offset 99% of the time by the extra RAM reducing overloading of the Virtual Memory system.
However, it is enough work to replace the RAM and RAM is cheap enough, that I'd recommend putting in two matched 1 Gig modules instead.

  • K7T, memory modules and slowness

    Bonjour à tous.
That’s the first time I post… It’s hard for me to write in english…
My motherboard is K7T Turbo (MS-6330). I have two problems :
    1. I have three memory modules : 256 MB, 128 MB and 64 MB. All three are 133 MHz speed.
The memory test of  Norton Utilities indicates alwys an error at  an address about 356888576 (the address is not always the same, but always greater or equal than the one I wrote above.
 When just one of these three memory modules is used, the memory test is always OK (any module plugged in any socket)
 The test is also always OK with the two modules 256 an 64 MB,
 Also OK with the two modules 128 and 64 MB,
 But it is Always failed with the two modules 256 and 128 MB.
Here is my conclusion : my K7T Turbo has a problem « addressing the memory in the space around the address 356888576 and above ».
    356888576 is 1545B000 in hexadecimal. 256 MB + 128 MB = 18000000 (hexa) is the only combination of my memory modules that goes ahead 1545B000 (256 MB + 64 MB = 10400000)
Do you think my motherboard is guilty ?
    2. The Memory Bandwidth Benchmark of  SiSoftware Sandra 2002 gives me a result about 895 MB/s.
The result is the same with one, two or the three memory modules. And It seems to me very low.
Is it possible to obtain better ? Is it necessary to upgrade the BIOS (my version is 2.9) ?

When troubleshooting, I always change one variable at a time. I would hate to miss a solution by being in a hurry. In this case, you may have damaged either the RAM or the RAM slot. I would stick with the Toshiba specifications for the RAM, making sure it is the correct size, speed and type recommended. I also recommend that when you replace the RAM that both modules be from the same manufacturer, size, and specification. Try one RAM module in one slot and then the other. And then try both RAM modules in both slots. After the testing you should be able to figure if this is a RAM problem or a RAM slot problem.
In the case of hard drives, the real test is whether or not the Bios sees the hard drive. If the Bios doesn't see the hard drive, it's not going to work. The Bios should see the hard drive whether or not the hard drive is partitioned, formatted or has data on it. My experience has been that many Toshiba laptops will work fine with larger capacity hard drives provided they are the same speed in RPMs, have the same interfacing connection and physically the same size.
Again, prior to doing any work on your computer, make sure that both the AC power has been disconnected and the battery has been removed. Be careful out there. A blown repair job by a non-Toshiba tech is NOT covered under warranty.

  • 3 memory modules?!?!

I'm currently using two 512MB memory modules in dual channel. i want to add more ram to my machine, but i want to keep the pieces that i currently use. so my question is, can i add one more module (1 GB) so that i will have a total of three modules (2GB), or adding the third module will cause instabilities and i should stick with even number of modules (2 or 4)?

it will probably not work in dual channel mode, if your cpu is smart enough to drop back to single channel mode it might work but you'll lose performance...
afaik there is no option to force single channel on that board, so if your system tries to run dual channel mode on that combination it's almost surely in for some memory errors...

  • Mix memory modules

    Hi,
I have two 2 GB memory modules that I pulled from my Mac Mini.
Since they are just sitting around, I am wondering if I add them to my iMac that has two empty slots, will give me any performance boost.
The iMac currently has two 8 GB memory modules.
Adding two the 2 GB would make the total go to 20 GB.
Will this help in any way?
Is there a certain order in which I should install these modules?
    Thanks
    Raj

We cannot say without know the exact model of the Mac Mini. Even though RAM modules may have the same form factor and number of pins, you cannot use RAM rated at a lower speed than that of your iMac's RAM.
    You iMac requires 204-pin PC3-12800 (1600 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMMs
Late 2012 and newer Mac Minis use the same RAM. If the Mini is older, the RAM will not work.

  • Memory Slot Utility "memory modules are installed in the recommended slots"

I've got two Mac Pros that give me this message. Every time I boot them up the Memory Slot Utility gives me the message that my memory modules are installed in the recommended slots.
This started after I installed an additional 8GB of RAM, bringing them up to 16GB. 8x2GB sticks.
I checked the login items and it's not there, so what else could I be missing?

I have this problem too on a Mac Pro Quad Early 2009.
Has 2x4GB + 2x1GB Runs fine with 10GB, but everytime I log in the memory utility pops up as if I have a problem.
How do I stop it annoying me?
