Two Nanos

I have just purchased a 4 gig model and wanted to know if I can use two nanos to access the i-tunes library, thanks

Yes - you can, and iTunes is smart enough to distinguish between them and keep the settings for each separate!

Help! We got two nanos for Christmas. Daughter #1 loaded software, plugged in nano, and everything works great. Daughter #2 can't do anything! Computer does not recognize her nano - when we plug it in we get a message saying "another ipod is connected to itunes - have that person log out" even though daughter #1 is not logged in or connected! Have tried everything. Have never registered serial number of nano #2 on computer 'cause we've never gotten that far. Any suggestions? Nothing on this sight has helped so far, nor have any articles.

  • Two Nano Issues

These two problems take please with a frequency that has nearly rendered this thing useless. The platform is Wondiws XP Pro (all current patches).
Plug the Nano in, not logged ini yet, 50% of the time the Nano turns on and then just hangs. Does not appear to charge and buttons do not function. Just sits there. I have to disconnect it and let the battery run down completely. Then plug it back in and all is well.
Second issue is iTunes. Version 6 and 6.01 (current). Under Windows it appears that the network I/O is blocked (read, non-blocking I/O). It just hangs while it tries to download PodCast. It ties up system resources and no other Apps will run as well. I have to reboot or sit there an wait until the sites timeout.
Both issues are total turn offs to this combination. Although the iTunes issue is independant of the Nano.

    Gerhardt,
Try resetting the Nano "by toggling the Hold switch on and off (set it to Hold, and then turn it off again). Then press and hold the Center and Menu buttons for at least 6 seconds, until the Apple logo appears" or "restore your iPod using the latest iPod Installer."
For your second issue, enabling your firewall to work with iTunes.

  • Two Nano's-One computer

My son was given a nano as a birthday present and I already have one. How do we set up two music libraries in itunes? There is content in mine that I do not want him to have access to. We need two seperate libraries so he can also use his giftcards.
Thanks for any help you can give.

If you want completely separate libraries, the most practical way will be to set up two different user accounts in Windows. Then you can each have your own set of tracks and videos.

  • Two nano's on one computer

My husband and I both have ipod nano's. He downloaded i-tunes and set up his playlist first. Everytime I plug in my nano, it recognizes me, but then downloads his library to my ipod. how do i prevent that and establish my own library?
    Thanks for the help!!

Create a new Windows XP user account and place your songs in that account's library, or divide the existing library into playlists and set each iPod to sync only those playlists. More information is available here.

  • Two Nanos, none stays on without the cable & both keep restarting.

The first one is green. By itself it's completely dead. When the data cable is plugged in the apple logo will pop up and after twenty seconds there will be a flash of the menu screen then it starts over again. Once in a while, it may show that it is connected then the PC recognizes it.
    Resetting and restoring is unsuccessful.
Syncing completes but once the ipod is unplugged it goes off again.
Holding down the 'select + menu' or 'select + play' buttons don't work, even when I toggle the hold button.
Updating it results in an error code (1417)then the restarting cycle starts again.
The second one (silver) is similar. It displays the apple logo for a reccuring five seconds. Not detected, no functions available.
I'll be happy if I get even one to work.

lets back up a bit before going forward.

  • Problem with using two Nanos with one XP computer

I've got two profiles set up on an XP Home Edition OS. I have iTunes loaded within each profile. When I move from one profile to the other and I exit the iTunes on the first profile and enter the second profile...when I try to launch iTunes on second profile it tells me someone is using iTunes and to continue it must be shut down. I already shut it down...but the first profile is still running. Only when I log off of the first profile will I be able to use iTunes on the second profile. Please don't tell me I have to live with this...thank for any help that you can provide.

Firstly my experience of MS Windows would suggest that although you've shut the application down there's still a whole lot going on in the background tying up the loose ends. If you swap users before this completes then it may be put on hold, hanging onto the program or its config files. This may be completed by logging the profiles off fully.
As previously mentioned you'll have to live with it.

  • Can I sync two nanos to my itunes library?

I have a desktop with itunes, an iphone and a new nano.  Can I sync my husbands nano to my itunes library also?

There is no limit to the number of iPads, iPhones, or iPods you can sync with one computer, iTunes library, or account.  The sync settings of one device does not affect any other devices.  See here for the different ways you can manage multiple iPods with one computer.

  • Help needed for two Nanos

I'll try to make this brief, I bought my wife a Nano for XMas. She was up and running and everything was fine with the account & ITunes. Last week I bought a Nano as well. I plugged it in without using the CD, created a new account under another email address only to find we could not access her Itunes anymore. Yesterday, she uninstalled and reinstalled everything and her account & everything was back in order and both of our IPods worked.
Tonite I thought I would install my Ipod on our laptop - using the original email address I had created last week. After installation ITunes came up and HER library was there. How can this be since it is on a totally different computer, a totally different account and email address? She then plugged her Pod into the desktop and it updated with the three songs in the library from Itunes. When I plugged the Nano into the laptop for the first time I received a message stating is is linked to another library, which was my wifes'.
We would like to have the ability to each use Itunes and have our own libraries and playlists since our taste in music is often not compatible.
Please!! Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? Thank you in advance.
    Doug

Also, what email address are you talking about? The one for the iTunes Music Store?
And, when you installed iTunes on another computer the library from your main computer appeared?
Are there any songs in My Documents-->My Music-->iTunes-->iTunes Music?

  • Updater 6-28 Fried Two Nanos

    Hello
I just purchased a new 4 Gb nano and downloaded the latest updater and applied the 6-28 update. Before that it was functioning perfectly. After that, itunes would not recognize the nano, the updater would not recognize the nano (so I couldn't restore factory settings through a "restore"), and it could not be safely disconnected through the "Safely Remove Hardware" system tray icon.
So I returned it and got another. Same thing happened. It's clear that there is something wrong with the update process.
So I returned that one and got a third. I HAVE NOT applied the update. Everything works fine!
    Apple, please fix this!

This Question can be best answered by someone who had the Same error pop up, but I'll try my best.  You have an iPod touch 2nd Generation and you don't have anymore warranty for it. I hope you didn't jailbrake it or did something illegal with it like putting a new software on it that should not be on there. Here we go:
Go to your Friends house or anybody else you know that has iTunes on their Computer. Don't sync your iPod!
Try to restore the iPod, or try to put it as new iPod so it'll delete everything but you'll have your iPod problem fixed

  • Tried to plug in two nano's at once - help!

my son had his new nano (refurbished from apple.com) plugged into the computer to charge, and it was charging fine. Then my other son plugged his into a different usb port to charge also (nobody was signed on to the computer at the time) and my first son's nano got the exclamation point folder icon. We have done everything in troubleshooting and it won't go away. We've tried resetting it and tried to force it to disk mode, but it won't even do that. When we try to force disk mode, it get's the apple icon but doesn't go any farther. Then it'll stay on the apple icon until we try to reset it, then we get the folder again. Does this need to be sent back?

    Hi jennmanski,
First, I would recommend having a look at the Apple Support area for iPods. At the top of this page, click the "Support" tab, then look for the iPod support center. Alternatively, go to http://www.apple.com/support/ipod
If none of the suggestions on there work, I would say just send the iPod back to Apple. Refurbished iPods from the Apple Online Store carry a full one-year warranty from the date of purchase. Online service applications are quick and easy - there is a link within the iPod Support area I mentioned above.
If anything is confusing or unclear, please feel free to post back and ask. We're here to help!

  • Using two Nike+ Nanos and one iTunes Library

    Hi,
I have a Nike+ account and a nano. I am considering buying my wife a Nike+ kit to go with her nano.
We share a single iTunes library.
Can we use two nanos with different Nike+ accounts from the same iTunes account? And both upload our runs to our own accounts without confusion?

You can always setup seperate accounts on your Mac for you & your wife & place the library in /Users/Shared/ as an alternative. However, as others have posted, the settings for Nike+ are per iPod.

  • Have 2 nanos and can only sync to one. how do i set up itunes to sync to two

I have two nanos different generations.  itunes will only sync to one.  how do I set up itunes to sync to both?

Don't add files to the library that are already in it.
In particular if the option Copy to iTunes Media folder when adding to library is enabled and you repeatedly drag files located outside of the media folder into the library, iTunes will make fresh copies each time because that is what your actions are telling it to do...
In general I find it much better to move new files into the media folder before adding to the library, or just move them to the Automatically add to iTunes folder.
For your existing duplicates I have a script called DeDuper which can help remove them. See this thread for background.

  • Two ipod nanos with one that cannot dwnld songs

I purch. 2 nano ipos and installed the first one, then the second, but the screen to load or click and drag to load onto the nano is locked. Is there a way around having two nano's dwnld from the same computer? the same icon for itunes that is on my desktop?
    I appreciate your reply.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
You would want to manually update...
    Manually Updating iPod
(You can play the movie in the above link)
Then you can drag the songs to the iPod.
Of course, you could just let it automatically update as it should be doing now and iTunes should load all the songs on your computer onto it.
But, to answer your question, if you want to drag music to the iPod nano, manually update.

  • Two ipod nano

We have two Nano iPods in our home, and only one computer. Both of these iPods have different play lists, we don't like the same music! Is there anyway to have two playlists on one computer without blending them?
Also, it takes about 8 hours to charge up my iPod on my computer, is there any way to charge up an ipod nano by plugging it in to an outlet (like charging a cell phone)?
    Thanks!

See this article for help with managing multiple iPods on one computer:
How to manage multiple iPods using one computer
    To your second question:
You can buy an AC portable charger for your iPod from Apple's website, or any other electronic accesories distributors.
This is the kind of thing that you'd be looking for: Portable Charger for Apple iPod
    I hope that helps you.
