Two Network : Ethernet and Wifi

Hello
I'm connect at two sort of network :
1- Ethernet
2- Wifi
When i connect to my network, with ftp client, the soft take by default the Ethernet Netword.
How do forced my FTP client or other soft to take the wifi Network by default ?
Thank you

Hi,
Go to Network>Show>Network Port Configurations, and make sure Airport or en1 is dragged to the top of the list. At least that's the position the OS looks in first for Internet connection.

It will pick the highest service in the list which has an internet connection.
To order the list, open Network System Preferences and select Set order of network services from the button below the service list.

  • Problems with ethernet and wifi after 10.5.8

In school we log online through a system where a window appears in Safari (or other web browser) where you write in your username and password. Same is for Ethernet and Wifi. After update 10.5.8, this system no longer works. Only logo of the service provider appears but the boxes for username and password are missing.
Everything works with my old iBook G4.
    Any ideas?

My son is at school in the USA and he is reporting the same problem getting onto his university network. His new MacBook is getting the 'self-assigned IP' message with DHCP. This is not a good start to the school year.

  • Using ethernet and wifi at same time

I just upgraded to Lion and now I can not access my WIFI print server at the same time I am connected to the ethernet using the wired cable.  In Lepard it worked fine.  To clarify, I use the ethernet cable for internet access and I use WIFI to print and access a network hard drive.  When WIFI is off, the internet works fine, the moment I turn on the WIFI, the internet sonnections stops.  Since October 2010, this connection has worked fine until Lion.  I have a second IMac on Lepard and it also still works fine with both ethernet and wifi at the same time.

Try to swipe up and press play from control centre while in your game. This often works however with some games/app the developers have set to pause your music and after you swipe away control centre the music will stop.
    Hope this helps!

  • HT4628 how to reinstall Mountain Lion if ethernet and wifi are both dead

For unknown reason my MBP network connection keep dropping on both Ethernet and WIFI after i came back from overseas. Been trying to recreate the network setting and retry, it works for a few seconds then went dead. Thinking of reinstalling OSX but, not sure how to perform it since both ethernet and wifi are both sort of dead.
    Any advise will be appreciated.

Head to your System Preferences > Network > Advanced and delete all the network connections.
Next head to your System Preferences > Data and Time and make sure it's correct and being updated with Apple's time server for your location.
Reboot and check the data and time is correct (PRAM reset is in order if it's not)
Connect via wifi and save the password in your Keychain when it asks.

Does anyone know why you are unable to use the dock ethernet connection and the tablet's wifi connection at the same time?
I assume this is a limitation of the dock / tablet because if you hook a laptop up you can use the ethernet and wifi at the same time because they have different MAC addresses.
Thanks for any assistance you can provide....

  • Two network adapters and Real Application Cluster

    Hello
I have got one problem. I have got 2 computers and each of them has got only 1 network adapter. Is it possible to make Cluster having only 1 network adapter on each node?
Do 2 adapters are needed (they must be)? I know that I can add two different IP addresses to one network adapter. Another question is: is it possible to make two networks (private and public in Oracle 10g )on one adapter to create cluster? If it is ,please expalin how to do it or give a link, please . I will be happy then :)

You need two network adapter which is separate from creating two VIPs for the same adapter

  • Connect to two networks, ethernet(LAN w/o internet), wireless(w/ internet)

so i'm trying to connect to two networks, a wireless and a wired one
the wireless(which connect to an access point) is a network which allows me to connect to internet, and the wired(regular router) one is a small home local network, which does not connect to internet.
if i just have the wireless one on, unplug/disable wired one, i can connect to internet just fine, but if i do plug in ethernet cable, then all of the sudden i can't connect to internet anymore.
in my Network Coonections window, it does show that the wireless one has "Access to Network and Internet" while the wired one has "Access to Network only". I'd assume that the computer is smart enough to find its way to internet, but apparently not.
is there a way to set a preference, so vista tries to find internet conncetion thru wireless first, before go on to the wired network?
I konw this is technically possible, because on my mac, i can set in such way that it takes certain connection first
    thanks in advance

I think I am getting it but still no joy.
On the WiFi connection to FIOS Router I have manually set metric to 1.
On Same PC in Ethernet I have removed gateway and set a metric to 10.
Before I did this connection to Internet was very slow when the Ethernet cable plugged in and Interface Enabled. After removing gateway and setting metrics access to Internet AOK.
I have working Homegroup, network printer but no Internet access from Hardwired PC.
Cannot ping FIOS router @ 192.168.1.1 from hardwired PC. Destination host unreachable.
NMAP Quick Scan 192.168.1.* never sees 192.168.1.1
So, I'm still not routing properly.

  • Ethernet and wifi clashing?

    hi, hope someone can help.
    i have a brand new imac 21.5"
i run some IP cameras on a local wired network, 192.168.1.xx
    these are picked up fine.
when i turn on the Airport, to connect to my wifi, the ethernet network drops.
is there a way to have both running? the airport configures using DHCP, and when i turn it on it connects with IP address 192.168.1.2
can anybody suggest anything, i'm at the end of my (very limited) knowledge about networks!! is there any info i've left out?
    thanks

So you want to connect your iMac to two different Local Area Networks (LAN)? One over ethernet and the other over wi-fi? Or are they the same LAN with a connection for ethernet and wi-fi provided by the same router?

  • Macbook Pro 10.7.5 internet will not work. HELP!!! Ethernet and WIFI both say connected but still no internet.

I have a macbok pro running 10.7.5. My internet has always worked on it but I decided to try changing my router set up - the set up didn't work so I reverted back to the original setup that had previously worked.
Now, I have an Imac running tiger - I can connect to the internet via WIFI or Built In Ethernet with no problem.
When I try to connect to the internet on the Macbook Pro running osx 10.7.5 my internet will not work
Safari Says (You are not connected to the internet) and Google Chrome says (Page is Unavailbe) and lists some trouble shooting options that I tried.
When I go to System prefrences > Network my WIFI and Ethernet both say "Connected" and have a green light next to them.
I have tryed deleting the connections and starting new ones and I have even tried deleting the Location and starting a new one.
Nothing works - no matter what I do, even know the WIFI or ETHERNET says Connected, the internet will not work on the Macbook Pro.
The Internet works fine on my Imac and I have tried everything such as swaping cables but there doesn't seem to be a problem with my internet
or with my router - it all works fine with my Imac running Tiger.
Can anyone help me get my internet working on my Macbook Pro again? Any ideas?

    Hello ASGR.SYS amd WahWar,
I tried both of your suggestions and neither of them worked.
ASGR SYS - When I tried it your way i got a message saying that the that the diagnostic couldn't repair the problem. It shows the thw WIFI, WIFI SETTINGS, NETWORK SETTINGS, ISP, all turn green. But the Internet and Sever stay red. The thing is, there is nothing wrong with my internet connection as I can connect to the internet on my Imac running tiger, both through ethernet and wireless. When I go to System Prefrences and Ntwork the WIFI and ETHERNET both say "Connected" even know I can't veiw any websites.suggestion
When I tried WAHWAR's suggestion I get a message that says cannot connect to the WIFI network and then it lists your typical trouble shooting tips. Like Make sure you entered the right password and make sure you are in range of the wireless network
Again, just to confoirm - My internet connection is working fne both the WIFI and the Ethernet. When I use it on my IMAC running tiger, everything connects as it should and it works perfectly. But when I try to connect with the MacBook Pro, Even know the connections in the Network settings window show up as "connected" the MacBook still seems to think that my internet connection isn't working at all.
I have tried creating new connections, creating new locations, and I have even gone as far to reset my router and start completely from scratch. The result so far has been the same - the IMAC running tiger will connect - my blackberry and iphone will connect - but the macbook pro running lion will not connect..
    I'd apprechiate any other suggestions

  • Using Bride Mode to have private network to ethernet and wifi but also use Guest Network for public?

    Hello,
I am trying to use my new Apple AIrport Extreme in Bridge mode to have our private wireless network. (This works great) and a guest network for the public. When I create the guest network and update settings and then attempt to connect to the guest network wifi it says no internet. :-(

Apple assumes that you will be connecting the AirPort Extreme to a simple modem......not a modem/router.
The correct Router Mode setting with a simple modem is DHCP and NAT....allowing the Guest Network function to work correctly.
When you have a modem/router "upstream" from the AirPort Extreme, the correct Router Mode setting is Bridge Mode for the AirPort Extreme to avoid having two devices both trying to act as routers on the same network.
You might be able to get away with having two devices both configured to act as routers on the same network....but at best, there will be negative consequencs. At worst, the AirPort Exteme may not function at all if you try to configure it incorrectly.

  • Ethernet and WiFi not working in browsers

We have about 13 iMacs and 3 MacBooks connected to our LAN network.  Earlier this afternoon, one of our iMacs (20 inch early 2008) would not connect to Firefox or Safari internet browsers.  However, I was able to log into our practice management system, which requires an internet connection.  I went into System Preferences and ran a diagnostic test on the network which didn't show anything.  I even turned the WiFi on and connected to our wireless network and could not connect on Safari and Firefox.  I took one of our MacBook Airs and connected hooked it up to the ethernet cable used on the iMac that wouldn't connect and it worked without issue.  I checked our Netgear switch, all cords are securely connected and everything is light up as it should be.  Just wanted to see if anyone had any other suggestions before I called either the company who set up our network (who rarely return my calls) or take it in to be serviced (closest place is about an hour away).

Why not try a Repair Disk?
Boot to the Recovery partition, run Disk Utility and have it Repair Disk.

  • Ethernet and WIFI Question

This maybe a redundant question, I want to back up the stuff in my Imac using TC.  I do not want to use this Imac wireless nor do I want my backups done wireless but can I still use the wifi system on TC for Ipad ,Nook, etc. without having to configure my Imac everytime to use a wifi devise?

Yes. Just connect the iMac to your Time Capsule with an Ethernet cable, then go into System Preferences->Network and either set Ethernet to a higher priority than AirPort, or turn off AirPort completely.
Your wireless devices will continue to connect to the internet, and even to your iMac, through the Time Capsule wirelessly, while your iMac will enjoy the faster speeds and improved reliability of the wired ethernet connection. Your devices which connect to your iMac "wirelessly" will continue to do so; they will not know the difference between your iMac on the Time Capsule's wireless network and your iMac on the Time Capsule's wired network – it's all the same as far as connectivity is concerned.

  • Two Network Interfaces and DNS

    Hi -
Sorry for asking what sounds like a simple question. I'm running 10.6.2 on and early 2009 Xserve.
I have two interfaces. One that I'm using for web traffic and the other for a SIP PBX that's running on the Xserve. I know how to point the the inbound traffic to the correct interface (web vs. SIP) through WAN to LAN rules (I have a separate pubic IP for each service), but how do tell a particular service to use that interface for outbound traffic?
Is this done by creating a machine name locally for that interface? When I do that, I notice that in server admin, that DNS name is linked to that IP. I have outbound rules that tie that LAN IP to external IP, but I just want to make sure the Xserve is sending out traffic on the correct interface.
    Thanks!

Static routes likely won't help here - they're based on the destination IP address and you're not likely to know that for all possible incoming connections. In addition, it's entirely possible that the same client IP establishes a web and a SIP connection so now you're hosed - you're only going to use one destination-based route for that client address.
My first suggestion would be to simplify your network and run on a single public interface. What's your thinking behind using two interfaces here? Unless you have > 1gbps WAN link you're not going to saturate the link. Even if you do you could bond the two interfaces together to get a 2gbps link to your switch/router.
Then you use your firewall to manage the address translation based on port (port 80 -> WAN IP 1, 5060 -> WAN IP 2).
That said, Snow Leopard appears to support source-based routing where the default route is based on the source (i.e. server-side) IP address. This could solve your issue, but I can't confirm this since my network is architected to not use source-based routing so I haven't needed to look at that option.
