Two OS, Two HD, Two LR, One Computer Conumdrum

Disclaimer: I am very new to LR so please bear with me.
Originally I had set up a Windows XP operating system on a single HD on my computer on which was and is installed LR3.3.  I added a second HD running Windows 7 and installed a second copy of LR3.3.  I needed to keep the old XP OS because of software that wouldn't run on the W7 OS but needed W7 to run Adobe Premiere.  All my photo files are currently on the orignal XP HD.  I either boot to the XP OS or the W7 OS depending on the work I need to perform.
I went ahead and imported the image files residing on the XP HD into the new LR on the new W7 HD.  But,  what I've discovered, as should come as no suprise to anyone except apparently for me, is that all the work I've done with setting up  Collections, Folders and Catalogs as well as development adjustments,  keywording, etc., etc. are not showing up in the new LR installation.   Clearly all the files that would provide this reside with the LR setup and  related folders on the original XP HD.
My thought is to copy over all the photo folders from the old HD onto the new HD and import all the needed LR files that would be needed to duplicate the old LR working environmen.  Is this the right thing to do?  How should this be done?  Can it be done?
I assume the photo folder structure and image files they contain on the new HD will need to exactly duplicate the folder sturcture and image files found on the original HD.
I hope this makes sense.
Thanks

Thank you, Pete.
Your comments are extremely useful.
If I do copy over my the catalog and preferences folders to the new LR installation on the new HD, wont I need to move the image files and place them into folders that match the way they are arranged on the original HD?
Because in the dual boot system the W7 OS sees the XP OS drive as drive "D" and not as drive "C" as I would think copied LR catalog would be expecting.  I don't need or want to use the LR on the XP OS HD. However, if it were possible, I'd rather leave the image files where they are.

  • Two ipods - one computer - Need help

I have had an ipod for a few months and my girlfriend just got one for Christmas. Neither have been registered. Now that she is trying to put songs on her ipod it is uploading all of the songs from mine onto hers. I don't know how to make it so that she has her own library without deleting all of my songs. Can two ipods be used on one computer? What should we do so that we can have two different libraries that won't interfere with the other? Is there a way to login to different itunes accounts on one computer instead of the same account opening through default when accessing itunes/library?

I have a Nano 2nd gen and recently purchased a 1GB shuffle. Using the link above I tried "method 3" to create a separate library. My problem is that when I clicked the advance button there was no general tab. Do I a newer version of itunes or something?

  • Two Thunderbolts, one computer

I have two Thunderbolts, one in the house and one in my workshop.  I have one MacAir11.  When I am plugged into the Thunderbolt in the house, it works fine, but when plugged into the one in the shop, the thunderbolt is problematic.
In the house, when I close the air cover, the thunderbolt becomes my display which is what I want.  In the shop, when I close the lid, the thunderbolt either goes dark or flashes.
    Any ideas?

  • Two accounts one computer

I have two iTunes accounts.  Apple stated they will not merge the two accounts into one.  My wife has a third account, which also can not be merged.  So, now I have this really annoying thing where whenever I switch my accounts, I can not access my content for 90 days.  I can not fathom families that have one computer and tried to set up accounts for each of the family members.  What is the answer to this?  I have already sent a nastygram to Apple, but this appears to be the worst customer service idea on the face of the earth.  You can't merge accounts, nor can you have multiple accounts on the same computer.  Does apple think that families can afford a computer for each one of their children?  I don't know the answer to this, but if someone else knows, please inform me.  I can not access the material I rightfully bought and Apple is now withholding due to some 90 day restriction that was not in place when I bought the material.

All accounts remain as they are now when installing on top of a previous OS, only the OS components and basic Apple apps update.  None of this has anything to do with iCloud, which is a separate issue.

  • Two Users, One Computer

Hello. My husband and I can not figure out how to separate our playlists on iTunes. Both of our music/video selections come up when we plug in our iPods, yet we have separate accounts. Is there a way for me to plug my iPod into my PC and not have access to his selections? Can this be resovled by one of us moving to a different computer? Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.

  • Two users, one computer, sharing library

My wife and I share one computer. I have the lion's share of music in my library and she wants to be able to download some of my songs  onto her iPhone. What is best method?

    Terence Delvin,
What's your motivation? You reference my previous statement about it being a big problem.
Yet that post has, interestingly, been deleted. But you still know about it. I can only assume that you work for Apple and you deleted it.
To then suggest that it is my personal problem is rather counter-productive. It is no longer my personal problem b/c I no longer and will never use iTunes 7.0.
My motivation? I am trying to warn other people so that they don't have to go through the same hassle. I'm hoping that Apple will own up to the problem and fix it.
If you intend to continue to deny the problem, then don't bother posting anymore. If you have some inside information on why it happens, after you read the referenced blog (which was erased along with my previous post but which I will re-list), then by all means - post that here, and there as well.
    http://www.twistermc.com/blog/2006/09/12/itunes-7-erased-my-ipod
There are far too many experience users there who had it erase their ipod without warning for you to write it off as OE (operator error).
    Regarding your semantics question -
If a plane SOMETIMES crashes, that's a HUGE problem for the people affected. (I'm using this as metaphor and mean no comparision between the two events)
If iTunes SOMETIMES erases the ipod, that's a HUGE problem for the people who have it happen to them.

  • Two nanos one computer

Help! We got two nanos for Christmas. Daughter #1 loaded software, plugged in nano, and everything works great. Daughter #2 can't do anything! Computer does not recognize her nano - when we plug it in we get a message saying "another ipod is connected to itunes - have that person log out" even though daughter #1 is not logged in or connected! Have tried everything. Have never registered serial number of nano #2 on computer 'cause we've never gotten that far. Any suggestions? Nothing on this sight has helped so far, nor have any articles.

  • Two iPods, One computer, Different Login accounts

Hi. I've had my iPod Mini for about two years now and my mother just bought one for herself. On our computer we use different login accounts which is basically just different settings. So iTunes has it's own library on each account and we can add songs to the different libraries.
But when we try and update my mother's iPod, we go to click 'Update iPod', but it is greyed out. Is there any way around this or can we only use one iPod on the whole computer, despite the different accounts.

    Check this out.

  • Two iPhones, One Computer, iCloud?

Hey, my wife and I are going to be getting two iPhone 4S's tomorrow. I've noticed that some people use one computer and one Apple ID with two phones to keep from having to buy apps twice. I'm curious on how that will work with iCloud. Will we be able to use two different iCloud accounts with one computer? Or will we have to use one iCloud because we are using the same Apple ID?
Will this mean all of my contacts will sync to hers, and all her photos will sync to mine and vice versa?
Or should we just create two different Apple IDs?
Basically, what I'd like to do is keep one Apple ID for our apps.  But separate everything else.  I'd rather not have her photos appear in my photo stream, or her contacts appear in my address book.  Is there a way to accomplish this?
    Does this even make sense?
    Thanks,

Here's what I did.   We have 2 iPhones, iMac , and iPad.  We share calendars and contacts but not email.
I setup iTunes with my single I'd on all devices so purchases, apps, and music can be shared.  For iCloud I setup one master iCloud ID and one sub account.  On phone 2 I setup the master icloud ID with only calendar and contacts enabled.  I setup another icloud mail account only with the .me sub account.  She also has a gmail acct as well.  So far it seems to work.  On the iMac iCloud is based on the master icloud account but each mail account is configured in mail.
    Hopefully it makes sense
Having problems with reminders syncing but assume it will only get better over time.

  • Two iPods One Computer with two hard drives

    HELP! HELP! HELP!
I have a 20GB iPod set up on my computer using the computer's hard drive which is only 40GB.
I have just purchased a 60GB Video iPod and want to set it up with the program, a second iTunds and it's playlists on an 80GB external hard drive.
I copied the iPod program and iTunes over to the portable drive, but can't get my new iPod to be recognized. And, the iTunes on both locations shows my playlists for my original iPod. Each time I plug in the new iPod, it says there is no iPod connected. When I plug in my old iPod, it works fine.
I am not real good at setting things up and need as much detail as possible for getting this to work.
The goal is that I can choose which iPod to access and set up each play list separately. I want to have my music on my old iPod and use the new one for pictures, videos, etc.

  • Sharing iPhone apps two iphones one computer

I have just upgraded my iPhone 3G to iPhone 3GS and wish to give my wife the other phone. However she does not want ALL my Apps just some and also not all my contacts - plus those apps she does want we don't want to have to pay for them all over again(like Tom Tom)- how can we sync our phones on one computer and share apps - but enabling my wife to add or remove apps that we have already purhased as well as contact - in other words:
"can we share apps?" and how do we do it? AND
"Should I create a new account for my wifes phone and then transfer the apps across to her phone - and if so how?"
thanks heaps - if you can answer it of course

There is no device limit for the number of iPods and/or iPhones that can be synced with the same iTunes library and iTunes account on the same computer, which includes 3rd party apps.
Each iPhone synced with iTunes on the same computer can have different sync preferences. Under the Apps tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes, you can select the apps you want installed on your iPhone, and the music under the Music tab, the movies under the Movies tab, and the photos under the Photos tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes. The same applies under the various tabs for your wife's iPhone sync preferences with iTunes.
For you wife to start from scratch with what is her iPhone, you can erase all content and settings on the iPhone, or restore the iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from the iPhone's backup.

  • Two users, two Palms, one computer

    Hi all -
I have a Palm device that I've been using with iSync, iCal and Address Book successfully for some time. My husband just got a Palm, and I'm trying to decide the best strategy for us to be able to sync with our one computer. It would be nice for us to be able to share addresses and calendar events sometimes, but not essential, I suppose. We don't have a .mac account.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

You do not need a .Mac account to synchronize anything but additional Macintosh desktop and portable computers.
You can either add an additional Palm device to the single account you likely share on this one computer, or you can create a second Mac OS X user account on your computer and synchronize the second Palm device with it.
The advantage of sharing the same account is that you will be able to share contact and calendaring data. The distinct disadvantage is that any addition, change or deletion of any information on your respective Palm devices will be propagated though your synchronization pool, affecting the Address Book, iCal and your other Palm device. You can limit the potential 'interference' or 'damage' by carefully choosing which individual calendars and contact groups are synchronized by each of you. Those configuration options are controlled for each device in a drop-down configuration pane for each device.
Be sure that you choose a unique HotSync name for the second Palm device and overwrite its contents during the initial synchronization event. If it contains contact or calendaring records that are unique, enter those records by hand into the Address Book and iCal so that they are not lost when the second device is overwritten.
