Two OSX versions on one Disk

Hi,
I Have a macbook pro and i have partitioned my 500GB hard drive so i canhave snow leopard on one partition and Lion on another. The reason i want to dothis is because of The new FCPX and the old FCP7 clash as well as the fact aviddoes not work on Lion.
I installed Lion on the lion side works great!!! Then I went to installSnow leopard on the Leopard side, Install started fine until it did a rebootand then the computer just kept crashing saying about OSX version unknown and Kernelerrors.
Can you not have both versions of OSX on your laptop within a partitioneddrive????
OR worst come to worst i loose avid is there any way i can get lion on theother partition??
thanks

It seems very easy to do this if you have Snow Leopard and want to install Lion on the other partition but I am doing it the other way around so here are a list of things tried and the results.
1. Snow leopard install disk straight in to lion = Disk comes up saying it can not be used with this version of OSX
2. Used a Snow leopard backup drive as the boot disk, inserted disk and pointed install to the Partition I made for it. = Install starts until the Reboot then Kernel errors and a DOS type screen sating it can not find a OSX version.
3. Tried to Carbon copy my Snow leopard back up drive to the partition = The same Kernel error when I try and reboot on the new snow leopard partition.
4. Went to Google, found a article saying that the OSX Lion Recovery partition can cause havoc not allowing you to install from a disk. Answer was to make your mac boot in firewire mode whilst using another mac to run the install disk and direct it to the correct partition this was tested on a mini mac server with two hard drives in it no on a single drive with a partition. I am currently  trying this but when the disk restarted the machine it just sits on the Grey apple and has done for the last 30 mins yet i had this before and apparently its the computer scanning all the different disks connected I am hoping the install will finally restart :-s ???
I am out of ideas.

  • Two - Progress Versions in One Project

    Dear Experts,
I need to setup two progress versions for one project.
Progress Version 1 - for monitoring project progress and preparing S curve., measurement method is time propotional.
Progress Version 2 - for Result Analysis, measurement method is Estimation.
    Please advise on the following....
    a) Is it necessary to enter both plan and actual for RA POC (for Progress Version 2), or can I enter only the actual progress.
    b) Can I maintain the POC only on the Billing Element (WBS Element) where the RA will be calculated (RA key attached WBS Element).
    c) Can I use two different POC  weighting for the two different progress version.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
    Thanking you.
    Best Regards,
    Abdul.

    Hi Jon,
I know I can right click and pulldown to "locate referenced files" and in both cases it says there are no referenced files which means that neither of these is in an Album or whatever.
Sorry, no, that means something completely different. It means that your master images are managed, they  are imported into your Aperture Library and not stored outside your library. Perhaps you mixed this up with "Show in project", that you can use to find out the home project of an image in an album.
But is there a way to know what the Master is for these two?
No, both images are versions, referencing the same master. What you can find out, however, is which of the two is the most recent version.
To see this, you need to define a Meta Data preset in the Inspector Window. Open "Meta Data" in the Inspector Window. Select "Edit" in the selector. In the right panel navigate to Aperture -> Last Modified Date and check this item.
Now you will see the date when your your version was last modified. So you will be able to which of these two is the original version.
I know these sound confused and I am even after having pored over the full extent of the documentation.
Good for you! Keep it up, and do not only read but experiment with this information - try it out with a small experimental library.

  • Two oracle versions on one client

    Hello
I installed Oracle7 and Oracle8 Client together on the same machine.
So far it works well. But when I want to open one of my ODBC Drivers, I4m getting the following error:
ODBCADM caused a general protection fault in KRNL386.exe at 0001:243F.
Is it possible, that this is because of the two Oracle versions?
Or does anybody have another idea?
    Thanks, Anja

    Hi,
Like Kamal said, no problem. You can have 2 tnsnames.ora, one in 8i (where you declare 8i databases), and one in 10g (where you declare 10g databases).
To connect to 8i, set ORACLE_HOME to 8i directory and use 8i sqlplus.
To connect to 10g, set ORACLE_HOME to 10g directory and use 10g sqlplus.

  • Installing two Oracle Version in One Windows[/b]

    Hi Guys
I want to know how to install two different versions of Oracle in One Windows Under Different Homes.

A guess is that this is due to the earlier 8.1.7.x ODBC drivers did not support multiple homes (max one ODBC version per PC - ugh!).
If you can't skip this error, try to uninstall 9i ODBC, install 8i, upgrade 8i driver and then reinstall 9i ODBC (in the right home)... I guess a better way would be to do this in the correct order on a clean PC (to avoid registry messup as much as possible).

  • Transfer data from two oracle version to one sql server 2005

    Hi,
I have two database servers on different machines. They are
    1) Oracle 8.1.7.4
    2) Oracle 7.3.1.4
I have to create agents which can transfer tables from these two databases to one machine having sql server 2005 database.
Please tell me what are the options. What drivers i need to install on machine having sql server 2005 so that i can transfer data from both oracle versions.
    Thanks
    Rajneesh.

Your Oracle databases are so old you might want to look around and see if you can find dinosaur bones near by.
Given the differences in data types between Oracle and SQL Server I'd suggest you start off by dumping the data into delimited ASCII files and then loading it using whichever SQL Server tool you wish.

  • How to store System backups of different Macs/OSX versions on one ext. disc

What is the best way/software to create and store backups/clones of several different Macs on one external hard drive? The Macs are different models (iMac, G5) and use different versions of OS X.
I read the instructions for Carbon Copy Cloner and Super Duper and they require to erase everything on the disc, so I can't store them all on one Volume, as the new one would erase the others. Do I have to create several Volumes/partitions on one hard drive?
    Thanks for your time!

Hi Noriker and a warm welcome to Discussions.
The best would be to partition the drive into the requisite number of volumes. When CCC or SD erases before beginning the copy, only the volume will be erased. Use Disk Utility to partition the drive.

  • One iMac, two OSX-accounts and one iTunes Match, how do I get it to work?

I have one iMac to work with and two different User-Accounts for my daily business. I use iTunes-Match and I would like to use it on every User-Account. On the forst Account I already acitvated iTunes-Match succesfully. But on my second User-Account it refuses to work. If I start-up Match in iTunes it compares the files (at least iTunes tells me so) and after that I am back at the beginning, where I shall click "start".
Something doesn´t really work here. Is it because it is impossible to use multiple User-Accounts on a Mac with the same iTunes-ID and iTunes Match? I am not talking about different iTunes-Accounts! I am talking about the same iTunes-Match-Account on two different User-Accounts of Mac OSX

    There we go...
On the first user-account iTunes Match is working fine. No problems on that.
What I did on the second User Account:
    1. I logg on to the second user account
    2. starting iTunes
    3. selcting iTunes Match and then "activate"
    4. after I enter the corresponding Apple-ID, iTunes Match starts to compare the lokaly saved music with iTunes Match which takes about 10-15mins (Step 1 through Step 3)
    5. after that, it shows me the button "finished"
    so far so good
If I press the button "Finished" it jumps back to the initial Screen, where it starts over with Step 1
    That loop never stops.
So there is something not quite working at all.
Is that better to understand? I don´t think, that screenshots will help at all, as there is now difference to the coorect messages. There are no error messages

  • Is it possible to install two OSX`s on one internal hard drive?

I tried to make a new, 30GB free partition formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled), but I can`t install OS X 10.6 from my original DVD there. Says "Mac OS X can`t be installed on this computer". Why?

I thought about some solutions, but I don`t know if any of them is true.
    1) The original OS X DVD recongizes, that it has been installed and not erased yet and it doesn`t allow second installation.
    2) My MacBook has replaced internal hard drive because of an error. In an authorised Apple service they gave me a new one with preinstalled OSX. But I don`t think that OSX install DVD is matched with hard drive.
    3) DVD is broken.
    Please help.

  • Can I use two adobe bundle(version) in one computer?

It is possible to install two adobe version in one computer. Lets say cs3 and cs5 working in one mac.
    Please help me...

    Broadly, the answer is yes.
However, you must bear in mind the issue of compatibility between MacOS and the various versions of the Adobe products.
Both versions of CS you propose to use must be compatible with the current version of MacOS you have installed. I use CS4 and CS5 on MacOS 10.6.6 without any problems, but an older version such as CS3 run with CS5 may be stretching things a bit in that respect. Others may have specific experience and may be able to say one way or another.
If you do have two versions running, you need to set your choice of which version opens if you double-click a file. The default is usually the latest version. Alternatively, you could drag and drop each file onto the icon of the version you want to use.

  • Can i have two versions of OSX running on one computer

can i have two versions of OSX running on one computer?

Yes. The second one can be installed on an internal or external drive, but can't be one that the computer wouldn't be able to run if installed on the internal drive.

  • Putting two OSX's on the one drive...

I have just bought a macbook pro and still have my Powermac G5 and am now straddling the intel/powerpc fence.
I have an external firewire drive that I use as a diagnostics drive on which I have installed OSX and a couple of troubleshooting apps (diskwarrior and techtool pro primarily).
Now I think I'm going to need both intel and powermac installs of the OSX... What I'm wondering is.. can I do it without partitioning the drive?
    Chris

Apparently, even though Apple doesn't say it is supported, Intel Macs can boot from an Apple Partition Map (APM) partition scheme. (This was discovered when some folks noticed Intel iMac DVD disks used the APM scheme.) PPC Macs cannot boot from a Partition Table (GPT) partition scheme. Some people have had success exploiting this 'dual boot' nature of Intel Macs to make a universal boot FireWire drive using the APM scheme.
This usually involves repartitioning the drive with two OS versions (Intel & PPC), each on its own partition. (Some ambitious souls have managed to make "universal" OS versions that avoid the two partition requirement, but this has some undesirable consequences, so avoid it if you can.)
    The general idea is straightforward:
    1. Use Disk Utility's "Partition" tab to format the Firewire drive in the APM scheme, creating two HFS+ partitions (the drive will be completely erased).
    2. Boot from a PPC Mac & install 10.4.x on one partition, using a PPC install disk.
    3. Reboot from an Intel Mac & install 10.4.x on the other partition, using an Intel install disk.
The "extraordinary measures" come in at step 3, because the Intel installer won't let you install the Intel version of the OS on an APM scheme drive. The workaround is to restore the Intel OS version to the partition using Disk Utility's "Restore" tab. Probably the best way to do this is to install a fresh copy of the OS to an internal partition of an Intel Mac (or to any GPT partition), make a disk image of it, & use that image as the restore source.
In theory, you should be able to use cloning software to copy your working Intel install to the second partition, but this doesn't seem to be an approach anybody has discussed much.
However you do it, you will have to select the correct version of the OS at startup (using the Option key, for instance) for each mac. If you try to start up an Intel Mac with the PPC version of the OS or visa versa, the Mac will crash. This doesn't harm anything (or so they say), but to keep things simple, name each volume with something distinctive (like "PPC Boot" & "Intel Boot"), since your startup choices won't necessarily tell you which is which.
Note that I haven't personally tried this, only read about it (since I will someday want the same capability). Mention of the technique first appeared about a year ago but I have seen nothing since to suggest it still isn't viable. To be on the safe side, check your Intel DVD disks to see if they are APM, which should be a good indication that your Intel Mac will boot from the hybrid FireWire drive. (In Disk Utility, select it & its partition scheme will be shown at the bottom of the window.)
You can read more about this technique at (for example) rentzsch.com: Intel-based Mac Boot Incompatibility or Macs on Intel: Boot Issues. An interesting variation on the universal OS approach can be found at macosxhints.com - 10.4: Create a single Universal binary bootable disk.

  • I want to install winXP to my iMAC running Lion OS.  I will use BootCamp.  My winXP uses 2 disks with XP on one CD and SP2 on the other.  Bootcamp seems to say use a one disk version.   What can I do about this paradox?

I want to install winXP on my iMac.  It has OS 10.7.2 and uses a 27" display.  I will use Bootcamp and create a separate partion for winXP.  Bootcamp instructions call for a single disk winXP CD with Service Pack 2 on it.  My version has winXP on one disk and Service pack 2 on another.  Will this be a problem?  If it is, is there a solution?

If you just bought an iMac a week ago new, it WILL NOT support XP unless XP is inside a virtual machine.  End of story.  You will need Windows 7 if you plan to run Windows natively on any Mac in 2011.
Used models will run XP, though--from the Intel inception in '06 through the middle part of 2010.
However, consider that Microsoft wants XP gone--and badly so--even as it is extending security hotfix support through April 2014.  This gives you two years and four months before you have to throw down for whatever's current at that time.
Windows 7 will give you a much better experience (dare I say more Mac-like?) than XP, as it seems to be better organized.  The Taskbar, for instance, has become more like the OS X Dock in that you can "pin" things to it in a straightforward manner, unlike XP's seldom-used Quick Launch traybar.
7's also built to take advantage of all the snazzy new hardware you now have.
But don't let me sell it to you.  It's really your call.

    Hello nicky:
You should run repair disk from your software install DVD before you try anything else. The crash may have damaged some of your directories - and a possible cause of the "missing/not missing" tunes.
