Two Path Bars!

Hello folks,
A while ago I chose to include a Path bar in CS4 Bridge. How I included it I don't remember. It is NOT the selection Window>Path Bar. It is a bar within the Content Tab that shows a white path bar with a Go button and a New Window button. It is enclosed with a white rectangle frame the extends the width of each window view (Essentials, Film Strip, Metadata, Output).
Anyone know what I'm talking about?
How can I dismiss this 'second' path bar?
Charles
I attempted to attach a screen shot, but I don't know if it is allowed or even if it worked.

Not a clue, it looks like you have installed some script for this.
In preferences look at start up scripts and see if you find something that
shows it is a script for this.
And you can also try to quit Bridge, from user library preferences folder
delete the BridgeCS4 plist file manual to the trash (it will renew with a
fresh file after restarting Bridge) and hold down option key while starting
Bridge to refresh the preferences to default.
Anyone know what I'm talking about?
How can I dismiss this 'second' path bar?

  • Missing path bar in apps

    Hi,
I upgraded from Lion to Mountain Lion a few two days ago. I have the path bar turned on in the Finder's view menu and the path bar is visible in regular Finder windows. However in all applications, when the save dialogue comes up, the path bar doesn't appear, this is the main time I need to see the path bar (especially when doing a "search" during saving). Has the path bar been dropped from the save dialogue of apps or is this a glitch...or am I missing something? Thanks

With column view selected in Finder does your Save box look like the first one below or the second one below?
If it is the second one, click where the arrow points and you should get a column view Save box.

  • Problem Joining Two Paths!

Okay so I have Illustrator cs3 and so lets say I want to join 2 paths on a text thing so 2 letters could be joined together and then have the stroke applied to the combined letter, not the separate 2 letters.
I have made some diagrams to explain my situation since it is hard to explain.
(note that the images on top and bottom are the same but I duplicated the top so the bottom is selected just so you can see)
#1: I make the text, I go to object> expand and click okay, then I add a double stroke. Now see how the g is overlapping the n which is overlapping the i which is overlapping the t etc. I want to join the top of the letter s to the letter top left bar of the letter t for design purposes.
    http://qualitylogos.net/diagram/diagram%201.jpg
#2: I go into outline mode so it is easier to see and work in. Then I moved the points of the s and t together and deleted the 2 vertical bars that were previously there using the scissor tool, now the joints (on the top and bottom) are directly on top of each other.
    http://qualitylogos.net/diagram/diagram%202.jpg
#3: So I use the direct selection tool and highlight both points so i can join them and make one combined letter and I go to object>path>join and I get this error, how do I work this out and fix this because its really frustrating coming from photoshop where it is really easy to do.
    http://qualitylogos.net/diagram/diagram%203.jpg
Here is the .ai file for illustrator cs3 if you need it:

I hope these files helped you and thanks for checking my thread out, I hope I can get this solved soon :)

    > I want to join 2 paths on a text thing so 2 letters could be joined together and then have the stroke applied to the combined letter, not the separate 2 letters.
You want to create a ligature: Two characters merged into one glyph.

Illustrator's Join command is completely lame. It requires you to select endpoints; it can't join more than two paths at a time; and it can't join paths in different groups. (This latter is what is causing the alert you are seeing.)
But you are going at this in too difficult a manner. For what you are trying to do, all that tedious cutting and joining is not necessary.
Set the text. Convert it to paths (Text>Create Outlines). The result is a Group. Apply the Add Pathfinder (and expand if in CS3), or use the Merge Pathfinder. That will union the overlapping characters.
There are also ways to do this with the text remaining live. Essentially, you apply the outlines at the TextFrame, Group or Layer level, instead of at the individual path level. Example:
    1. Set the text.
    2. Black pointer: select the text object (not a text range of characters).
    3. Appearance Palette flyout: Add New Stroke. Drag the stroke to below the Characters listing.
    4. Repeat step 3 for additional strokes.
If you then want everything to flattened to paths, use Expand Appearance, followed by the Add and/or Merge Pathfinders.

  • Why do I have two title bars - one with the title of the page I'm looking at and another with the new orange drop down menu? Plus I can't get FF4 to save my tabs, even when I go to about:config, why is that?

I downloaded FF4, thinking that it would merely update from my previous installation, but all my tabs were gone. FF looks really weird - here is a link to a picture of it: http://tinypic.com/r/2mwdus4/7 - I have two title bars, my bookmarks toolbar is missing and the tabs are on the bottom. If I go to view => toolbars and click one of them, suddenly the second title bar (with the orange menu) disappers and my bookmarks toolbar comes back (even if I don't click on it in "view"). I can't get the browser to remember my tabs between sessions even though I set it to remember them in my settings. I even changed the browser.showQuitWarning to true in about:config, but it didn't work. What is going on?

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • How to make a gradient on two paths

    Hello,
I am fairly new to Illustrator, although have used Photoshop, Fireworks and DW to some degree in the past.
In CS4, I am trying to make a country map with different counties or states.  Using the map of the UK and including Wales, Scotland, and some of the counties as an example.  I need to portray the whole country, but only highlight a specific part of the land, along a train line and so quickly fade away to almost transparent in the further edges.
Using the pen tool I have traced the country and county borders as paths. I then used the fill tool to make each country, or sea, a different colour.  Now I want to fade the edges of my map away to transparent to bring attention to the middle.  I have drawn another path on top and beyond the edge of the artwork and tried to make a transparency overlay and gradient in this path to make it fade to the edges.  However, this does not work as I had hoped for three reasons.
    1) the darkest edge of my 'fade path' does not blend into the country below but is quite an obvious line.
    2) the gradient is a different colour as it sits on top of other paths of different colours.
    3) the gradient is linear, from top to north, of radial, from a certain spot.  I need the gradient to flow out in all directions from a un-uniform 'blob' roughly in the middle.
Can you please tell me how I can achieve my aim?
    3) I had one more query when tracing my map ...  I have two shapes and the paths align along one edge, think of the south border of Scotland, and the north border of England for example.  At the moment I have these two paths running alongside each other but not joined. So if I didn't draw my pen accurately, there are small pockets where they don't touch. Ideally I would like to borrow the other path line for a time then leave it as it continues on it's own route.
Sorry if I mixed up the terms, I hope you can understand me.
Hope you can advise which tools I should be using, or some tutorials I can follow?
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks Mylenium. I've certainly learnt something from both replies.  I have now finished tracing the countries using your paste and cut method.  It was quite a tedious job!  I also found using the lasso tool and direct selecion tool that I could highlight just the area that bordered the next county/country.  My the latter stages I had to select multiples, join them and then add, delete more anchor points.  I'm sure there must be an easier way to trace an image!
I tried the live trace, but the map I was using was too detailed it traced geography and not the borders.  Anyway, I'm there now.  Thanks for the advice.
I think I'm on the wrong track with the 'blob'. I didn't mean the blob tool on AI, but was referring to the middle content of my map following the railway line, which is the bit I wanted to 'stand out' from the rest. I have perservered and think I'm getting somewhere with the gradients.
Thanks also Skullmaster for the idea of gradient.  It wasn't working how I need, but from your link I found how to make a 'transparent opacity mask' which I have used with a photo in the background to some effect.
It is a feature rich software and hard to know what to look for when I'm not sure of the terms.  Unfortunately I have a deadline for what I'm doing and this map is only a small part of it.  It will have to remain a work in progress as I slowly learn more techniques.
I'm sure I'll be back with more ...

  • How to enter a full pathname in the path bar?

    Hi guys,
I have a very simple question: Is it possible to enter a full pathname (Something like C:/MyDoc/Images/Subfolder/image) directly in the path bar like you can in the Windows Explorer, or do i have to click to that location every time again?
    Thanks in advance!
    Nicky

First, thanks for the very quick responses!
However, I still don't get to do what I want: entering the full string (path) at once. The image below displays the bar I'm talking about. I can't "exit the graph" by clicking just to the right of it.
    I'm sorry but I think I'm missing something :O
Clicking on the arrows just shows me the contents op that particular folder.

  • Two status bar apps, giving contradictory information

After a clean remove (with the removal tool provided by Adobe) and installing the Creative Cloud manager I was able to install my 3 most used Adobe apps...
I was very surprised this morning to see that I now have two status bar apps (the old one and the new one) both giving me information about updates. Funny detail: The old app tells me I have updates for my apps. The new one tells me I don't have any apps installed...
Very weird.. I don't see the point of two toolbar apps... I presume it's a huge bug or something. Ideas are welcome.
To clarify: I do have Photoshop CC, Illustrator CC and Indesign CC installed...
UPDATE: After loggin out and in again the new Application Manager now shows my app correctly but it still says they are up to date while the old one insist I have updates... I still don't get the advantage of two App Managers.
    Message was edited by: wimmees

wimmees, This is actually normal. You see two toolbars, one for the update workflow and the other for the install workflow. In other words, the updater will appear when you update your application from Help > Updates option. Rest you have Creative Cloud app wherein you can check the installed apps and can install the new apps as well.

  • Joining two paths: fill problems

    Hello,
I am having the following problem: I have a path entailing a simple closed curve
but when I try to fill the color won't extend to the whole area. To reproduce the
    problem:
    1. With the Ellipse Tool draw a circle.
    2. In the Paths panel click Add Points twice to add points to the circle.
    3. In the Paths panel click Knife On Points to yield individual segments.
    4. Here we create two paths by leaving out two nonadjacent segments.
4a. Shift click four segments and then in the Path Panel click Join Paths to piece them together.
4b. Shift click four other segments and then in the Path Panel tool click Join Paths to piece them together.
4c. Delete the nonadjacent segments from the paths list under the given layer.
    5. Ctrl-Shift click two of the endpoints in one of the two segments and click Join Points in the Paths panel.
6.Try to fill the area. The fill color won't extend.
What am I doing wrong? Or is this a bug? How do I work around this problem?
    Thanks,
    John Goche
    Fireworks CS4 on Windows 7.

    Hi John,
Thank you for your replies, I found them helpful, although I still think
the options 1 and 2 come down to a bit of buggy code which hopefully
will be fixed in the following releases unless someone can explain why
it behaves that way, perhaps I am missing something about paths and fills.
I wouldn't say there's anything buggy going on, but the way you are building a vector object is definitely not typical and reveals some awkward/confusing behavior. The important thing to understand is that:
    1. A fill is rendered from a contour, which is a series of connected points
    2. A standard "Path" has a single contour, for example an ellipse
    3. A "Compound Path" has multiple contours, and it renders each contour like a filled path, and adds/subtracts from the final result based on overlapping areas per a vector "fill rule" (which can be toggled in the Path panel) -- this is just like Illustrator and other vector environments
    4. Join Paths' behavior when points are not selected is to create a compound path from multiple existing paths -- ie if you have two paths, both with 1 contour, then you end up with a compound path with 2 contours -- NOT a path with a single merged/stitched together contour. (Conversely, Split Paths will separate each contour of a compound path into its own path.)
    5. Like Anita said, Union Paths will actually merge paths, though it's not so much looking at points and merging points as it's looking at fills and merging overlapping areas, creating/deleting points as needed
So basically, you have to remember that if you want a continuous fill from multiple paths you are about to join, you have to make sure the points are actually connected in your final result. It's not enough to simply have 2 points that are close or even directly on each other then perform "Join Paths". Fortunately there are lots of ways to merge points to create a continous contour:
    1. Select 2 endpoints with the Subselect tool and this will tell Join Paths to merge them if they are on top of each other, or connect them -- in both cases you end up with a continous contour which will be filled
    2. Select an endpoint and drag it over another endpoint and release -- FW will snap them together and merge them
    3. Select 2 endpoints or multiple adjacent points and use Weld Points in the Path panel
Applying all that to the situation of creating a symmetrical vector (which I do a fair amount myself), you could:
    1. Draw your first half
    2. Duplicate or clone and mirror
    3. Position the mirrored clone where you want it
    4. Select the endpoints you want connected and use Weld Points or Join Points
You'll end up with a fully filled shape.
That turned out pretty long-winded but hopefully it clears some things up!
    Cheers.

  • Two stacked bar in one graph with Answers

    Hi,
I'm trying to join into one graph four measures. So, we want to show two stacked bar, each bar with two measures. Is it possible with OBIEE tools??
    TIA
    Javier

If all you want is a stacked bar, you have an option under the type of the graph. select 2D/3D stacked. Also, while creating select all the measures that you want in the graph. That should give you a stacked bar graph. But if you want something like this
    Measure1 Measure3
    Measure2 Measure4
    (Stack1) (Stack2)
i dont think it is possible out of the box.

  • Why two paths for backend xml files?

    Hi All,
    I have a doubt on the back-end configuration(XML) files..
The BI maintains the config files in two paths..
    OracleBI_HOME\web\app\res
    <Oc4j_bi or OAS>\j2ee\home\applications\analytics\analytics\res
When we require to modify any file/content,
we need to perform in both the paths..
can anyone let me know, why is this so.!
    Thank you,
    Raghu

When you are working with IAS it needs to be done only in one location OracleBI_HOME\web\app\res which is shared by web server and presentation server. But when you are working with OC4j you need the folder architecture inside the oc4j applications. But still you need the OracleBI_HOME\web\app\res because it interlinked in most of the other BI components. This is because original Siebel analytics started the product with IAS as server, later it got converted to support all other servers. its my 2 cents for all the reasons...

  • Install of Firebug causes: Two title bars, inability to open the addons tab, and inability to use the Feedback feature, etc.

After further research, I feel this should be categorized as a plugin issue...
Firebug 1.7X A10 causes two Title bars (the standard windows bar, and a second just inside with the new orange Firefox tab...both with minimize/maximize/close buttons), plus other odd behavior listed below:
Any saved tabs from before the install/enable are gone.
Choosing Addons from the menu does nothing. After opening a new empty tab the Addons manager does load.
Choosing Feedback->Makes me xxxx, does nothing.
    Hitting reload button does nothing
URL bar (page address) stays the same between tabs (though the loaded page changes)
    Firebug addon works fine.
After getting to the Addon Manager (this took a bit of work to do), and disabling Firebug, all problems disappeared. My previous tab history also returned.
This seems to be unique to WinXP. I have installed this Firebug version with Win7 successfully.

The two titlebars is a known bug - http://code.google.com/p/fbug/issues/detail?id=4012

  • The disappearing path bar

I continually find that my path bar disappears. It's saved in all workspaces. Why does this keep happening? thanks.

I have a personal pet peeve with people who suggest, permissions and other
lame maintence stuff to solve concrete problems.
That is only a legitimate statement if you already use maintenance software
on a very regular base to my opinion. Computers are very complex
installations and using different software makes it even complicated to get
everything alright at all time, especially when it is the user that is
    mostly responsible for problems
There are more issues with Bridge that have not been solved, remember that
PS is at version 12 and Bridge only at version 4, it is still involving.
Most of Adobe's effort for CS5 has been put in the transition from PS to
Cocoa so it will work in 64 bit on a Mac with Snow Leopard. The Bridge team
has put a lot of work in making it more stable and faster then before, the
path bar disappearance is a strange bug that is not happening to everyone
every time but more people are experiencing it. Mostly a regular software
maintenance is preventing it to occur very often, you can also easily select
the menu Window and again put a checkmark in front of the path bar to let it
    appear again.
You are right, it's not perfect but who is...

  • Path Bar - relaunching Bridge - have to re-click Show every time?

Is there any way to make the Path Bar always visible?
Each time i relaunch Bridge it's gone, and I have to go to Window>Path Bar each time - even if I save it as showing in a custom workspace - is this a bug?
    Bridge 3.0.0.464

This is not normal behavior, it happens sometimes that the path bar
disappears by it self but certainly not every time you restart it.
I would suggest you restart Bridge holding down option key and choose
refresh preferences from the menu that appears. Set the preferences again to
your wishes and give it another try.
